Taking the stage infront of a packed King Tuts The Stands look as if this is all old hat, despite the fact they're yet to release anything, of course it is. This is the second time in just over a week that The Stands have played Tuts after supporting Alfie at the end of May. It seems singer Howie Payne feels equally comfertable, 'It's begining to feel just like home'.
Perhaps it was homely atmosphere which prompted this stunning performance from the Byrds-eqsue Liverpudlians? Whatever it was it's difficult to pick highlights from such a fantastic set. It may have been the 10 minute jam session, or the up-coming single 'She Speaks of These Things (released 21st of July), live favourite 'I Need You', or the glorious sun drenched closer, 'Here She Comes'. Everything fell into place beautifully and EWO felt lucky to witness a new band playing on of the sets of their careers so far (their words!).
It seems a shame that the evening didn't stop there, although The Stands were recievied well the real reason most of the crowd were there was to see the much hyped Aussies, Jet. They take to the stage amoungst many camera flashes and open with the highlight of the set, a Small Faces cover. The downside of having such good support acts is on nights like these when the headlines just can't compete. Jet are out-stripped by The Stands, with their Springsteen meets ACDC stomp. Each to their own, not EWO's style, but as the saying goes, 'If you can't say anything nice...'. |
