kings of leon
barfly, 30th april 2003
Only a few dates into their live career, we can fogive Kings of Leon for coming across as being somewhat nervous.  As soon as they launched into new single, Red Morning Light, however, all signs of nerves disappeared as Jared took on the persona of a young Mick Jager crossed with Dolf De Datsun.

The first half of the set was made up of songs unfamiliar to British crowds, two of which, Wasted Time and Wicker Chair, are set to back Red Morning Light, perhaps this explains the dissapointly subdued crowd.  However, they remained the ever polite, young southern gentlemen, with Caleb apologising for having a drink of water, 'Pardon me, I'm thirsty'.
The arrival of Holy Roller Novocaine breathed life into the crowd, and was the first of the songs taken from the EP of the same name.  We were treated to the new beefed up version of California Waiting, as well as new songs Spiral Staircase, Joe's Head, Happy and the truely wonderful Trani.  Perhaps the greatest ever ode to a cross-dresser?

Although the boys may have thought that the crowd had been hostile, Jared spoke of how he'd been told about how 'crazy' Glasgow crowds were, by the time they left the stage they should have been convinced that it wasn't, as he feared, that we didn't like them, but that we were transfixed.
