50 Cent at the SECC is the most sickening gig EWO has ever attended. We were among an audience including children as young as six, something you should bear in mind whilst reading this.
Following support band, Fabolous, a Frank Sinatra-alike appeared, on two big screens either side of the stage, singing 'New York, New York'. As the crowd joined in, singing along enthusiastically, the Sinatra-alike was gunned down. Bang band, Frank's dead. This was followed by a series of images, flashing across the screen quickly, but not quickly enough to be overlooked, which included graphic portrayals of violence, shootings, people living on the streets, and drug taking. Most horrifyingly, there were films of people snorting cocaine, cooking up, and injecting heroin. Can we please remind you of the age of some members of the audience. Six years old.
Having watched this, 50 Cent emerged from the top of a building in his mock up NYC ghetto stage set. The following song, which contained the constant references to violence and bad language we'd expected, saw 50 Cent and friends running around the stage avoiding fiery explosions, simulating bombs, all the while there were constant shooting sound effects.
With these shocking images engraved in our minds, EWO left in disgust (to get paid... you didn't think we'd pay to see that did you?), wondering how anyone can justify showing such things to such a young, impressionable audience. The artist, management, record company and promoters should all be ashamed of themselves. |
