We went on a nature walk through the woods collecting leaves.  We found many different colors and shapes.  When we returned to our classroom, we sorted them by type.  Caleb then created a chart to demonstrate the variety that we discovered.

Activities You Can Do At Home

Go on a nature walk and collect interesting leaves, cones, and flowers.  Look for pollinators!

Lay a sheet of plain paper on top of a leaf.  Using the flat side of a crayon, rub over the leaf and the leaf details will appear on paper.  Look for the veins!

Put a pair of socks on over your shoes and walk through the yard.  Remove the socks and look for hitchhikers.  Discuss how seeds travel.

Make musical instruments.  Place dry beans between stapled  pie plates or in tin cans with lids.  Play!
Place a wet paper towel in a clear plastic cup.  Insert a bean between the side of the cup and the wet paper towel.  Place in a window and keep towel moist.  Watch the seed sprout!
