How
to Plant a Peanut
Directions: Use the materials provided at the workstation
and these directions to plant your own peanut plant. Follow the directions
carefully so that your plant will grow!
Step 1: Choose the container for your peanut plant
that has your name on it.
Step 2: Using a plastic spoon, fill your container
with soil until it is about 1 inch below the edge of the pot.
Step
3: Plant a seed (leaving the brown skin
on) in the soil about 1 ½ inches deep.
Step 4: Pour enough water on the plant to make the
soil moist but not very wet, and place container in a warm, sunny spot.
Step 5: Clean up any mess that you made at the
workstation.
Step 6: Keep the soil moist and in a warm, sunny
location. Watch
and record any changes that you see over the next few
weeks.
Step 7: After about 3 months, the plant may have
developed peanuts. If
so, then carefully pull the plant out of the soil, shake gently to remove the
dirt from the roots and peanuts, and hang up to dry for a couple of weeks.
Step 8: With the help of an adult, roast the peanuts
in an oven.
