Holly Svengali's Academic Machinations
A blog record of my PhD studies (comprehensive exam preparations and dissertation research), post coursework.
Entry for May 22, 2006
Attended the first PhD class' dissertation presentation day on Friday. It was interesting, with some good talks, and it was nice to see everyone again after a month out of campus life. It was also quite good to get a glimpse at the process of proposal creation, and hear the sort of questions & concerns voiced by the various profs. I will use it to give foundation to my own proposal this summer. I meet with Drs. Shapiro, Grimes and Pravaz this upcoming Tuesday, and I have a meeting with my PhD cohort tomorrow to discuss comp reading strategy. I am currently behind in my comp reading, as I am not finished Many Petals of the Lotus, yet, and was supposed to start the Albanese book yesterday. I hope to catch up this week, as John has found a job and I will have more time alone (and no more job hunting activities to help with). I have still not heard back from the Jack Benny book people, but I got my Chaplin paper back from Dr. Bryant, so I can start editing that for publication. I still have to apply to those two conferences, as well. Dr. Dawson tells me that RA work should start on/by June 1st, for which I will be compiling an annotated bibliography for his management studies research. I still do not have a solidified second comp list, but negotiations precede fine.
