Holly Svengali's Academic Machinations
A blog record of my PhD studies (comprehensive exam preparations and dissertation research), post coursework.
Entry for June 28, 2006
My second comp list is getting closer to completion, which is well advanced of the deadline. All three advisors have given imput and have been reflected in the list, which pleases me. I will post the final list on the site when it is completed and fully approved.

Currently, I am still editing the Jack Benny piece, which is due by Saturday. There have been hitches, but, overall, it shows some professional advancement. Next week (early July), I expect to hear something about a conference to which I have applied.

Also, I have ordered my comprehensive exam 1 books, and they arrive steadily. Student loans have supplied me with tuition money, none too soon, so I will be safe from de-registration. RA work for Dr. Dawson continues smoothly.

In side reading, I have been reading The Awakening by Kate Chopin, which, although it was meant for pleasure, may provide an imaginative framework for some of my intermarriage research. I have also been re-reading Entertaining America, and Friedman's books.

I am lagging behind schedule on comp reading, so during July, I will have to double upo my efforts. I have not heard back from book review applications, and I still have one conference to apply for. Also, I have updated my photo and write-up on the PhD student site, and have added a link to my site. Finally, I have been contacted by Turner Classic Movies to write a review for them of their upcoming documentary Edge of Outside (2006), which is a fine chance to refine my film journalism skills.
