We went to my Grandma's. I had allot of fun, and I me and Bethany took my
grandma's boat out. (!) that was exiting! lol. An adventure if we ever
had one. Bethany still insists that it was my fault that we didn't make
it home for three hours because.....
Okay, we asked my dad and grandma if we could take the boat out. They
both said yes, so we got our life jackets, and got in the boat, well
there was only one paddle in the boat, we almost left, but we decided to
go ask the neighbor, so we went to the neighbors, (close friends of my
Grandma) and got a paddle. Soon we were off, or were trying to be off,
first one of my cousins showed us how to start the motor again, since we
had both only started it once, and didn't want to do it wrong, I drove
first, I drove up and down the lake and up and down, once I was going and
I past a boat full of boys, about 20 years old, (four of them) about
forty feet away, and they for some reason got mad that we passed them,
they pulled out faster and yelled at us to watch where we were going,
(which was really dumb, since we weren't going to fast, or going to
close, ) I think they were drunk, ( :o( ) well then they pulled in front
of us, swerving in really close. I doubt we would have crashed, because
we were going at such a snails pace, but it was still mean of them, and
gave me and Beth a creepy feeling, and we didn't want to be around them
any more, so we switched directions, and went the other way. Then Beth
took over the wheel (or stick on a boat) and we went flying to the other
end of the lake, we went almost to the dam, and then turned around to and
did some doughnuts in a wide part of the lake, where there is a 'Y' in
the lake, so people some times do that. Next we went back towards my
Grandma's again. When we got there, Beth (told me later,) thought in her
head that we should pull in, but I said, "Lets go up to Fisherman's inn
again!" So Beth didn't say anything and we went up again, when we were
about half way there, I got this feeling like, "we should turn around
now" and I said to my self, (not out loud) "we'll just go a little
farther, Fisherman's inn is not that far away" and I still felt like we
should turn around, but I ignored it.
well we got there and we were about to turn around, and I said "lets go
around that next bend", Not as many people go up there, it's not as
busy, but I wanted to see it again, because I hadn't been there in a
couple YEARS well we got just around the bend, and were in the middle of
turning around, when suddenly (this is the part where it gets good! :)
lol ) our motor quite, and suddenly, I knew why i had the feeling to
stop. The worst as that we couldn't restart the motor, because it was
stuck in forward, (and to start it, you have to have it in neutral.) so
we raised the motor out of the water. We looked back to see, that that
same boat, with the drunk guys in it, was coming back our way, (they must
of went a long way up the lake since we were only five minuets from the
spot wear we saw them last time) a moment of panic hit us, until we saw,
that just behind there boat, was a police boat. (Now this is where I
screw things up) The police boat pulled up along side us, "Do you need
help?" one called (there were two) "could you start our motor?" Bethany
called to him, laughing a little the police man replied, "Well I don't
want to step from one boat to another out hear in the water, but we can
give you a tow. Do you want us to hall you? " thoughts flicked around my
mind like, With how those guys looked, there going to think we are bad
boat drivers, if we get pulled in to shore! And we will never be able to
go out again until we are way old! "No we can paddle" I said, Bethany
looked at me like I was nuts, "No we want to be towed!" I quickly
replied, "It's not really that far, we can paddle there." Bethany looked
doubtful. The police officer said, "Who's boat is it?" "our Grandma's"
Bethany answered. "Your sisters?" we nodded our heads as he continued,
"Well, who is older?" "I said "I am" at the same time is Bet said, "She
is." Well then it's your division" said the officer. So I decided we'd
row.
It was a mistake.
We rowed,
And rowed,
And rowed,
And just for change of pace, we rowed some more! (That was off a movie)
Well after about an hour, we continued rowing.....
and rowing,
and rowing,
and after an hour and a half, we crept rowing, we cept rowing for about
two hours, and I was really wishing that I had excepted the tow. So was
Beth. It was starting to get comical, very comical. :)
Beth the whole time was telling me what a mistake I had made. I was
telling my self, too. Blisters were forming on our hands, Bethany put the
seat cover over her paddle, and I put a sponge over mine, but it still
hurt our hands. Finally I said, "Beth, take it out on your paddle!" And
we picked up our speed, Grandma's house was just around the bend, I
looked over at Beth, we both smiled, I said, "This is working good! Keep
taking it out on your paddle!" And we did,.... for about four feet,
and then "Snap crash!!!," I was sitting on my back in the back of the
boat, half of the paddle was in my hand, and half hanging out of the boat
about to float down stream with the current, (witch was with us by the
way) We laughed. And laughed. This was really like a movie. There we
were, sitting in the middle of the lake, with one paddle, stranded.
Suddenly the "just around the bend" was "All the way around the bend!"
We went to work with one paddle, it didn't work. We didn't go hardly
anywhere, and then, a pontoon with two old couples in it asked if we
needed help and Beth said, "No-" I cut her off, "Yes!" and she looked at
me, we started laughing all over again, and we both said Yes we wanted a
tow. We got home, everyone crowded onto the dock as we were pulled up.
Bethany yelled, "Our motor quite and the paddle broke." Every one laughed
too, and they told us, that they were just about to send out a search
party for us, (the neighbors) :) so that is the end of our adventure. :)
