| Quiet Solitude |
| A young man sits and contemplates life Where he is going Who he is And who he wants to become He carries a secret within Heavier than a paperweight it always seems to have him down No longer can he lie Hide his true self He opens up and relies on his parents for support Hoping that somehow they can ease his burden Things didn't go quite as he planned His mother cried and his father said nothing shaking his head in disappointment Later they told him he was a sinner and going to die from AIDS They thought he could be changed from his "illness" Told to tell no one because it'll be fixed The weight he felt from society was greatly enhanced by his parents rejection One cold January night he drove north With the window down and a cigarette in his hand He inhaled the nicotine wishing it would kill him quicker Then reached back and grabbed his bottle of tequila And drank until he finished yet another Swerving in between lanes he had no control over his life The hopes and dreams he had were slowly slipping away Luckily he did not crash while driving He parked his car on the side of the road Took off his shirt and grabbed a few things His cigarettes, alcohol, and a letter He took his final inhale of nicotine And final chug of tequila which he was so very fond of Put the letter down and walked closer to the bridge Unlaced his shoes and threw them into the road Shivering from the cold winter's air He looked and saw the frigid ice below Looked up and said, "have you ever thought about how I felt?" Took one deep breath with tears in his eyes And jumped The next morning the police found the letter he wrote to his parents saying: Don't worry I didn't tell anyone Instead I let it eat me up inside Until all I could do is rely on you The ones that are supposed to be there for me I didn't want you to be ashamed Or have your image tarnished by me Because I know how important that is to you Thanks for your understanding |
