Hello and thanks for stopping by to check out the web page of Hank and Georgie. We live in the tranquil and green area of Hamilton Twp., located just outside the town of Morrow, Ohio. We also share our residence with my lovely wife, Stephanie, and Georgie's brother and best four-legged friend, Tucker.
This web page is dedicated to the accomplishments of Georgie; a three year old black Lab, and I as we enter and compete in the sport of dock jumping. For those of you who do not know what dock jumping is here's some information on the subject.
Dock jumping is a sport of dog and handler working simultaniously to achieve one single goal; big jumps! It can be compared to the long jump in track and field, but for dogs instead of people. The dog is placed on a dock that is 40 feet in length. When cued by the handler they race as quickly as they can down the dock. At the end of the dock the dog jumps as far as it can into the water and retrieves an object thrown by the handler. The dog is then measured where the hind ends make contact with the water and the dog with the longest jump wins.
Sounds pretty easy, but you would be surprised at how much work and preparation are needed in order to really compete at a high level. Handler and dog must practice jump constantly, condition and build muscle, and work on proper throwing techniques and foot placement just to name a few. Further, the competition is fierce with the world record jump being that of 26'6" and many dogs consistantly jumping over 20'.
Well thanks for stopping by and checking out our page. Stop by often for updates located under Interesting Links as we continue to compete and improve in our sport.
Happy Jumping!!
