| A Week in the North, Continue Drakensberg Mountains |

| Sunday: Before leaving Hluhluwe, we have another morning safari, 5:00 this time. Very rainy, but we still see a fair amount of animals. The highlight is seeing baby rhinos playing together. We are lucky, during this time of year, we see alot of the baby animals out with their groups. We drive down the coast towards Durban and then cut across towards the Drakensberg mountains. The drive is particularly difficult over the hills because it is misty and foggy and there are people everywhere on the road. We arrive at Cayley Lodge in Winterton in the Central part of the Drakensbergs. We have a stunning view of the mountains from our room. Monday: We spend the morning hiking with a guide to a small cave painting done by the original bushmen here. We happened to join up with a Nederland couple who were staying at our lodge for the hike. The mountain area is lovely and our guide tells us that they also do multiday hikes into the mountains where the guide and company provide all equipment that is needed. Someday maybe! The girls (and we) are quite surprise at how small the painting is, covering only about 2 square feet. This one is about 800 years old. Some of the paintings in the mountains are much bigger, but they require you to take the multiday hike to see them. We are soaking wet by the end of the hike, after a bit of rain. Our guide was helpful in explaining the plants we passed and their medicinal uses. Tuesday: We drive along the mountains back to Johannesburg to catch our flight down to Capetown. Our trip in the North is ending and I wonder if the South will be as lovely as the North. |
