Target Learners

This WebQuest is designed for average & high leveled readers in first grade to complete independently or with a partner. In order to allow all learners to have the experience, low readers may be paired with average or high leveled readers as needed. Instead of having students read difficult passages on-line, I researched the sites listed in the Resources section below and wrote a few paragraphs for each holiday. Students will read and use this information to complete their projects.

This WebQuest can be completed as an in-class activity or as an at-home project. The WebQuest has a link in the process section where students can print the Holiday Project packet at home.

Standards

This WebQuest addresses the following California State Standards for first grade:

Reading Comprehension 2.0 (Students read and understand grade-level appropriate material. They draw upon a variety of comprehension strategies as needed.)
Reading Comprehension 2.3 (Follow one-step written instructions.)
Writing Strategies 1.0 (Students write clear and coherent sentences and paragraphs that develop a central idea)
Writing Strategies 1.3 (Print legibly and space letters, words, and sentences appropriately.)
Writing Applications 2.2 (Write brief expository descriptions of a real object, person, place, or event, using sensory details.)
History and Social Science 1.3 (Students know and understand the symbols, icons, and traditions of the United States that provide continuity and a sense of community across time.)
