Presidents' Day

Originally, Americans celebrated President Lincoln's birthday on February 12th and President Washington's birthday on February 22nd.  In 1971, President Nixon combined the two holidays into one and called it Presidents’ Day.  Now it is celebrated on the third Monday in February and honors all of the country's presidents.

Some symbols of Presidents’ Day are pictures of Abraham Lincoln or George Washington, the American Flag, the White House, and the seal of the President of the United States.  People often celebrate this holiday with a day off work or school.  They also enjoy sales at local stores, attend parades, and study the lives of presidents.
