MYTHS OF THE ORIGINAL DEITIES (GODS or GODDESSES):  Specific deities may appear at the time of creation and are thus part of the creation myths.  The oldest forms of these deities are often symbolized by expressing the sky and earth.  The father was considered the sky and the mother was consider the earth.

MYTHS OF RENEWAL AND REBIRTH:  Whereas modern societies think of time as a lunar process (measured by the moon) moving always into a new and infinite future, in primitive and traditional socieites time was understood and experienced as a cycle.   Various rituals took place giving expression to the sacred structure of time.
