Game
Summary Pasadena, CA (AP) - The Hokies returned to play for the national title almost 10 years to the day since their last title effort led by now Atlanta Falcons superstar Michael Vick. Despite shooting themselves in the foot in ever way possible the Hokies still almost pulled off the improbable comeback. Michigan who was playing in their 3rd straight title game, but looking for their 1st title since 2005 broke a scoreless game at the end of the 1st quarter when Heisman winner Roman Bell raced 56 yards for a TD. The Hokies answered back when with a two yard TD run by Anthony Sorenson, but Harry Washington missed the PAT after connecting on all 69 attempts during the regular season. The missed attempt was a sign of things to come for the remainder of the 1st half. Michigan scored on their next possession on a 72 yard TD pass from Napolean Norman to Alonzo Webber. On the ensuing kickoff, Reggie Esbjorn fumbled the kickoff away setting Michigan up in excellent field position. The Hokie defense held strong forcing a 33 yard FG by Matt Mercer which made the score 17-6. On Tech's next possession QB Chuck Hendricks was sacked twice setting up a Henry Washington punt attempt from the end zone. Following the game the disappointment continued for the Hokies who looked to be a title contender again in 2010. However, those title dreams were delivered a severe blow as QB Chuck Hendricks, HB Anthony Sorenson, WR Dwayne Winborne, and CB Chris Jewell announced plans to leave Blacksburgh for the NFL.
