Summary Blacksburg (AP) - Freshman LB Junior Zala made one of the most spectacular debuts in college football history. Zala, who was moved from MLB to LOLB during spring practices, recorded a NCAA record 7 sacks in the Hokies' first game. For his debut performance Zala was named National Player of the Week. SS Derrick Milus helped Zala lead the way on defense with 8 tackles along with forcing a fumble. The offense was sparked by an 88 yard TD pass from Chuck Hendricks to Bruce Green. Hendricks threw for 278 yards and 3 TD's while Green caught 2 of the TD passes along with 106 yards. Hendricks also carried the load on the ground with 16 carries for 85 yards and a TD. All-American TE Jerry Jones caught 6 passes for 104 yards and a TD. Sophomore HB Anthony Sorenson struggled throughout the game and finished with 54 yards. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - Big plays were the name of the day as the Hokies routed Oklahoma State. Bruce Green snagged a short pass from Chuck Hendricks and raced 68 yards for a 1st Quarter score. Green finished the day with 2 TD's and 79 yards receiving. In the 2nd Quarter Anthony Sorenson took an option pitch from Hendricks and went 63 yards for a TD. Sorenson finished the game with 168 yards on 16 carries and 2 TD's. Sophomore QB Chuck Hendricks had another strong game as he passed for 249 yards and 4 TD's. TE Jerry Jones caught 5 passes for 132 yards and a TD. Reserves Zach Mayo and Steve Dantzler both caught a TD pass each. Derrick Milus lead the defense with 10 tackles while Chris Jewell made 8 tackles and forced a fumble. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - The Hokies blew away their 3rd straight opponent at home by defeating Nevada 49-24. The game featured another set of big plays from the Hokies. Chuck Hendricks found Bruce Green for a pair of TD passes (71,42). Green finished the game with 202 receiving yards to go with the 2 TD's. Anthony Sorenson scored on a 61 yard TD run and finished the game with 177 rushing yards and 2 TD's. Chuck Hendricks rolled up another big game with 321 yards passing and 3 TD's. Dwayne Winborne caught 4 passes for 53 yards and a TD. The defense was lead by Chris Jewell, Brian Reeves, and Derrick Milus with 7 tackles each. Jewell also picked off a pass for the Hokies. |

Summary Seattle (AP) - Washington jumped out to an early 10-0 lead before the Hokies stormed back with 38 unanswered points. Anthony Sorenson scored 3 TD's including a 57 yard TD run. Sorenson finished the game with 183 yards rushing and was named Big East Player of the Week. TE Jerry Jones caught 5 passes for 124 yards plus a score while Dwayne Winborne made 7 catches for 72 yards and a TD. Chuck Hendricks was 12 for 18 passing for 247 yards and 2 scores. However, WR Bruce Green was held in check with 2 catches for 15 yards. CB Curtis Hooper led the defense with 7 tackles while SS Derrick Milus chipped in 6 tackles. On a down note the Hokies lost FS Nick Dyer for the season with a broken vertebrae. Dyer, a junior, has started at FS for the Hokies since his freshman season and will be sorely missed. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - The Hokies knocked the Owls from the ranks of the unbeaten as they moved to 5-0 on the season. The Hokies blew the game open early with 28 points in the 1st Quarter thanks to 3 Temple turnovers. Anthony Sorenson had another monster game with 189 rushing yards and 2 TD's. FB Brad Swan scored twice on short TD runs and also caught a 5 yard TD pass. Chuck Hendrick threw for 210 yards and 3 TD's. TE Jerry Jones lead the Hokie receivers with 4 catches for 80 yards plus a TD. Lake Mobley starting in place of the injured Nick Dyer picked off a pair of passes and recored 6 tackles. Chris Jewell made 3 tackles plus intercepted a pass. LB Junior Zala assisted the defensive effort with 2 sacks while Brian Reeves blocked the 4th punt of his career. |

Summary Syracuse, NY (AP) - A strong performance from the Hokie defense helped Tech moved to 6-0. DE Dusty McDonald was named Big East Player of the Week after forcing 2 fumbles along with recording 6 tackles and 1 sack. Derrick Milus contributed 7 tackles while Junior Zala picked up a pair of sacks. Chuck Hendricks passed for 218 yards including a 15 yard TD pass to Zach Mayo. Bruce Green led the receivers with 102 yards while Anthony Sorenson ran for 68 yards and a TD. WR Walt Chester of Syracuse led the Orangeman with 9 catches for 197 yards and a score. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - The Hokies raced to a 45-3 halftime lead then rested the starters in the 2nd Half as Virginia Tech moved to 7-0. Backup WR Zach Mayo had a huge game receiving and was named Big East Offensive Player of the Week after catching 5 passes for 167 yards and 1 TD. Anthony Sorenson ran for 2 TD's while Henry Suber returned a punt 72 yards for a TD. Chris Jewell scored for the Hokie defense on a 28 yard interception return. Jewell also recorded 7 tackles on his way to being named Big East Defensive Player of the Week. Lake Mobley led the defense with 10 tackles while Curtis Hooper recorded 4 tackles and an interception. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - The Hokies remained one of five undefeated teams in the country with a big win over Pittsburgh 49-10. Virginia Tech set two NCAA records in the game as Derrick Milus picked off 3 passes and the defense recorded 10 sacks led by Travares Murphy with 5. Milus also made 6 tackles on his way to Big East Player of the Week honors. Curtis Hooper of the Hokies was credited with 8 tackles while DE Eugene Cole rumbled 58 yards for a TD following a fumble recovery. Anthony Sorenson led the offense with 147 yards and 3 TD's including a 89 yard score. QB Chuck Hendricks was knocked out of the game with a dislocated shoulder in the 1st Quarter. Chris Gary relieved Hendricks and passed for 192 yards and a 44 yard TD to Bruce Green. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - On a stormy night with a steady rain falling, the Hokies' hopes for the National Championship and possibly their Big East title dreams were dashed by Walter Randolph and West Virginia. The Hokie faithful were still celebrating in the stand following Dwayne Winborne's 71 yard TD run with 0:35 remaining when Randolph struck through the Hokie kickoff team like a bolt of lightning. Randolph caught the kickoff at the goal line and raced 100 yards for a TD to give the Mountaineers the lead back with 0:22 remaining. The Hokies got the ball back and completed a pass to midfield before Chuck Hendricks was sacked for the 11th time to break the NCAA sack record established by Virginia Tech just last week. The Hokies were held to -55 yards rushing thanks to the 11 sacks and Anthony Sorenson managed only 26 yards on 10 carries. Forced to air it out, Hendricks threw for 4 TD's and 431 yards. TE Jerry Jones caught 2 TD's passes to go along with 10 catches and 213 yards while Winborne caught a pair of TD's and picked up 183 receiving yards. Rich Moffitt led the defense with 5 tackles and Derrick Milus was credited with 4 tackles and an interception. Mo Perez was replaced by Thomas Shuler during the game as the starting kicker after Perez missed two FG's inside the 40. Coach Fisher indicated Shuler will retained the place kicking job the rest of the season. With the win, West Virginia gained sole possession of the Big East Conference with a 5-0 mark. |

Summary Miami (AP) - The Hokies rolled over Miami 52-21 following last week's upset loss to West Virginia. Determined to make up for last week's loss to West Virginia and last year's loss to Miami, QB Chuck Hendricks picked apart the Miami secondary for 364 yards and 6 TD's. For his efforts Hendricks was named Big East Player of the Week. Hendricks also threw his 1st interception of the season in team's 10th game. Bruce Green and Jerry Jones proved to be an terrifying pair for Miami as Green caught 11 passes for 226 yards along with a score while Jones caught 3 TD's. Dwayne Winborne and Zach Mayo each caught a TD pass for the Hokies. Junior Zala led the Hokie defense with 5 tackles and 2 sacks. Following the game the Hokies received news that West Virginia had lost to Syracuse 28-24. With the loss by West Virginia, the Hokies moved into a three way tie for the lead with West Virginia and Pittsburgh. West Virginia travels to Pittsburgh next week for each teams final regular season game. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - In the first ever Blizzard Bowl in this long standing rivalry the Hokies handed the Wahoos their 2nd loss of the season. The game was played at night during an earlier snowstorm in that struck the Virginia mountains which left the field covered Both teams had trouble early adjusting to the snow as the Wahoos led 3-0 at the half. However, the Hokies got things rolling in the 2nd Half with 28 points. Henry Suber setup the go ahead score with a 61 yard punt return to the 1 where Anthony Sorenson scored. Brian Reeves sealed the victory with a blocked punt late in the 4th Quarter that set up another Sorenson scored. Sorenson finished with 3 TD's and 92 yards on 17 carries. TE Jerry Jones caught 7 passes for 105 yards including a 3 yard TD. Derrick Milus led the defense with 10 tackles and an interception. Junior Zala was credited with 7 tackles including 3 sacks. Earlier in the day Pittsburgh defeated West Virginia 34-27 opening the door for Virginia Tech to win the Big East and clinch a berth in a BCS Bowl with a win at Boston College. |

Summary Chestnut Hill, MA (AP) - The Hokies clinched a berth in the Sugar Bowl and their 3rd straight Big East Conference Championship with a 21-17 win over Boston College. Anthony Sorenson led the way for the Hokies with 17 carries for 152 yards to go with 2 scores. Dwayne Winborne scored on a 41 yard pass from Chuck Hendricks. Derrick Milus had another strong game on defense with 9 tackles while Cade Collins made 5 tackles including 3 sacks while Travares Murphy picked up 2 sacks. Sorenson and Collins were each named Big East Players of the Week. |

Summary New Orleans (AP) - Virginia Tech was victimized by 6 turnovers as the Hokies fell to SEC Champs Arkansas 38-28 in the Sugar Bowl. The Hokies came back after trailing 21-7 to score 21 unanswered points before the turnover bug struck again and Arkansas ran off the final 17 points of the game during the 4th quarter. The Hokies were intercepted twice during the final quarter and fumbled away a kickoff. HB Lamont Burks led Arkansas with 146 yards rushing and 2 TD's including an 80 yard run on the first play of the game. Ray Mills of Arkansas hit P.G. Swenson with a 48 yard TD pass and Anthony Allen on a 46 yarder for the go ahead score. The Hokies were led by TE Jerry Jones who made 10 catches for 122 yards and a TD. WR Bruce Green caught 6 passes for 95 yards while Dwayne Winborne caught a 15 yard TD pass. QB Chuck Hendricks passed for 289 yards, but threw for 3 interceptions after only throwing 2 all season. Ray Moffitt led the Hokie defense with 6 tackles while Derrick Milus and Chris Jewell both picked off passes following Hokie turnovers to keep Tech in the game. The Hokies (11-2) finished the regular season #7 in the Coaches Poll and #10 in the Media Poll while Arkansas (12-1) finished 5th in both polls. Following the game the Hokies were hit with devasting news as 3-time All-American TE Jerry Jones and 2nd Team All-American WR Bruce Green both announced their intentions to declare early for the NFL draft. |
