2006 Hokie Award Winners

Virgina Tech WR Richard Williams won the Heisman Trophy winner after catching 98 passes for 1,824 yards and 19 TD's. Williams, a senior from Norfolk, had 10 games of over 100 yards receiving including the Orange Bowl victory over Kansas State where he returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. Wiliams (6-2/210) came to Virginia Tech ranked as 72nd best receiver in the country despite running a blistering 4.48 in the 40. Along with the Heisman Trophy, Williams was named 1st Team All-American, won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's pass catcher, and was honored as the Hokies Offensive Player of the Year. Williams leaves the Hokies as their all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and TD catches.

Senior QB Johnny Portis of Virginia Tech was named 2nd Team All-American after passing for 3,257 yards and 40 TD's while on throwing 5 Int's. Portis finished a stellar career at Tech leaving the school as the all-time leader in passing yards and TD passes. Portis (6-3/244) from Church Hill, TN finished 5th in the Heisman Trophy voting and 2nd in voting for the Davey O'Brien Award.

Freshman TE Jerry Jones of Virginia Tech was named 1st Team All-American following a superb freshman season. Jones, (6-4/239) of Loveland, OH, caught 57 passes for 850 yards and 15 TD's to lead all TE's in receiving yards and TD catches. Filling an area of extreme need for the Hokies, the youngster contributed far above expectations and looks to have a very bright future at Virginia Tech.

Junior DE Leonard Adams was named the Hokies Defensive Player of the Year. Adams (6-4/272) from Gallatin, TN led the Hokies in sacks with 8 and was 2nd in tackles for losses with 12. The rock of an outstanding defensive line, Adams will return for his final season next year for the Hokies.
