Summary Blacksburg (AP) - In their first game under new Coach Warren Fisher, the Hokies offense poured on 24 points in the 2nd Quarter to defeat Kent State. The Hokies were led by WR Richard Williams who made 10 catches for 183 yards and one score. QB Johnny Portis completed 19 of 25 passes for 272 yards and 3 scores. HB David Bridges scored 2 TD's on the ground and DT Glen Green led the defense with 2 sacks. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - The Hokies rallied to score 20 points in the 4th Quarter to complete a miracle comeback on #7 Marshall. Johnny Portis hit Richard Williams on a TD pass on the final play of the game to complete the comeback with 34 points in the 2nd Half. Williams was named NCAA Player of the Week and finished with 9 catches for 216 yards and 3 TD's. Portis threw for 424 passing yards and 5 TD's. TE Jerry Jones picked up 2 TD's with 8 catches and 134 yards. HB David Bridges had a pair of TD runs. SS Rickey Boone led the defense with 11 tackles and a forced fumble. The forced fumble by Boone came on the first play following a failed onside kick with under a minute to play. DT Leonard Adams fell on the fumble which set up the Portis to Williams TD pass and the victory celebration in the rain. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - Another thriller in the rain as Johnny Portis finds Richard Williams in the end zone on a 32 yard pass for the go ahead score with 0:32 remaing as the Hokies won their 3rd straight. Williams led the Hokies with 10 catches for 196 yards to go with 2 TD catches. HB David Bridges and FB Brad Swan led a strong running game as Bridges ran for 133 yards and Swan scored 3 TD's. FS Nick Dyer lead the defense with 6 tackles and 2 interceptions. Both Williams and Dyer were named Big East Players of the Week. |

Summary College Station, TX(AP) - The Hokies struggled early in the game with a strong Texas A&M defense and then with two turnovers in the 2nd Half. WR Richard Williams had another strong game with 9 catches for 168 yards and 1 TD while HB David Bridges carried the ball 12 times for 103 yards, However, a roughing the kicker penalty on a FG attempt gave the Aggies 1st & Goal. The penalty was a huge mistake because the Aggies went on to score a TD. In the final quarter the Hokies were driving for a score when a fumble was returned 68 yards for a TD. The fumble return sealed the Hokies' fate and the victory for the Aggies. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - The Hokies defense were able to hold Temple to 7 points through three quarters and HB David Bridges lead the offense. Bridges carried 20 times for 212 yards and a score. QB Johnny Portis threw 3 TD's and Richard Williams caught one TD to go with 97 yards receiving. DE Leonard Adams led the defense with 2 sacks and SS Rickey Boone picked off a pass for the Hokies as the defense held Temple to 29 rushing yards. ESPN's Lee Corso was booed out of town after picking the Owls to beat the Hokies. |

Summary Syracuse, NY(AP) - The Hokies hung 21 points on the Orangeman in the 1st Quarter on their way to their 3rd victory over a ranked team this year. Bruce Green returned the 2nd Half kickoff 100 yards in front of a national TV audience to give the Hokies a 35-7 lead. TE Jerry Jones caught 3 TD passes and HB Jeff Bridges carried 22 times for 137 yards. QB Jeff Portis was 13-19 for 196 yards and 3 TD's. CB Ray Mitrione lead the defense with 6 tackles to go with Leonard Adams' 3 sacks and Nick Dyer's interception. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - The trio of Johnny Portis, David Bridges, and Richard Williams lead the Hokies to another victory against winless Rutgers. Portis threw for 319 yards and 4 TD's. Williams was named Big East Player of the Week after catching 8 passes for 171 yards and 3 TD's. Bridges ran all over the Scarlet Knight defense with 24 carries for 175 yards. TE Jerry Jones caught a TD to go with his 135 receiving yards. LB Ray O'Conner led the defense with 2 sacks as Rutgers was held to 11 yards rushing. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - The Hokies got caught looking ahead to the big rivalry game with West Virginia and dropped a shootout to Pitt. The Hokies defense collapsed in the 2nd Quarter allowing 28 points. The offense mounted a major comeback in the 4th Quarter with 20 points, but after a failed 2-point conversion to take the lead the defense could not hold Pitt as the Panthers ran out the remaining 2:24 before kicking a FG. WR Richard Williams had another huge game with 12 catches for 242 yards and 2 TD's while QB Jeff Portis threw for 395 yards and 6 TD's. TE Jerry Jones had another strong game with 3 TD catches. LB Travares Murphy led an unimpressive defense with 8 tackles. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - Following a terrible loss, the Hokies rebounded to defeat West Virginia giving the Hokies 4 wins over Top 25 teams. The Hokie defense played inspired football through three quarters to hold the Mountaineers to 3 points. WR Richard Williams was named Big East Player of the Week again after catching 7 passes for 102 yards and 2 TD's. David Bridges ran for 164 yards to help control the ball for the Hokies on the ground. ESPN's Lee Corso returned to favor in Blacksburg as he picked the Hokies to win the game. |

Summary Coral Gables, FL (AP) - In front of a national TV audience and in the middle of huge thunderstorm, the Hokies defeated Miami to takeover sole possession of first place in the Big East Conference. The Hokies held the Hurricanes to less than 100 yards of total offense as the Hokies defeated their 5th ranked team of the season. Richard Williams put on another show in the rain and mud with 6 catches for 130 yards plus one TD. LB Travares Murphy was named Big East Defensive Player of the Week after registering 5 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. SS Rickey Boone chipped in with 7 tackles. |

Summary Blacksburg (AP) - Virginia scored on 1 yard TD run with 13 seconds remaining to give UVA the victory in this huge rivalry game. Mo Perez had tied the game with 1:08 remaining with a 38 yard FG, but the Hokie defense could not stop Virginia all day and surrendered the go ahead TD. UVA ran for 242 yards and passed for 239 yards on the Hokies. QB Johnny Portis had a strong game with 3 TD's passes and 368 passing yards. Richard Williams and Bruce Green both went over 100 yards receiving. FS Nick Dyer had 5 tackles and 1 interception to lead the defense. |

Summary Chestnut Hill, MA (AP) - With the Big East Conference Championship and a BCS Bowl Berth on the line, the Hokies rolled to a 28-7 halftime lead over Boston College on their way to a huge victory for Hokies' program. QB Johnny Portis completed 4 TD's passes with two going to TE Jerry Jones. WR Richard Williams is was held under 100 yards for only the 3rd time during the season, but did catch 6 passes for 86 yards along with a TD. David Bridges ran for 96 yards. CB Evan Harden picked up a sack and played a stellar game on defense as Harden and Portis were named Big East Players of the Week. With the win the Hokies won the Big East Conference and advance to the Orange Bowl to play Kansas State. |

Summary Miami (AP) - The Hokies helped spoil the week for the Kansas State and the Big 12 Conference. Heisman Trophy winner Richard Williams despite being constantly double teamed lead the Hokies to the upset with 6 catches for 119 yards and one TD. Williams also contributed on special teams with a 96 yard kickoff return for a TD to start the 2nd Half. QB Johnny Portis completed 17 of 29 passes for 337 yards and 3 TD's. TE Jerry Jones caught 7 passes for 131 yards plus 1 TD. LB Travares Murphy led the defense with an interception and 5 tackles including a sack. Kansas State's only loss until the Orange Bowl defeat was to Nebraska who were beaten in the National Championship by Florida State 24-20. The win gave the Hokies their 6th win of the season against ranked teams as the Hokies finished the season 10-3 overall and 6-1 in the Big East. |
