Virginia Tech hires new coach for Hokie Football Program

Blacksburg (AP) - Virginia Tech hired Warren Fisher today to be the Hokies new football coach. Fisher, a graduate of Virginia Tech, will immediately resign his position as offensive coordinator/head recruiter at the University of Tennessee. While coaching the offense at Tennessee, Fisher continued the Vols tradition of being a pass-oriented team with an effective running game. Tennesse compiled a record of 42-23 with Fisher as offensive coordinator along with a 2-2 bowl record. Fisher brings to Tech a strong recruiting background from Tennessee along with experience as a high school football coach in Virginia. Both of which should benefit Virginia Tech as the Hokies have suffered in recruiting due to NCAA investigations and player defections. While at Tennessee, Fisher recruited three straight Top 10 classes and leaves the Volunteers program in excellent shape for the future. However, he faces quite a task at Virginia Tech. A recent article by Sports Illustrated ranked the Hokies #99 out of 117 Division I programs in the country.
