House Point Rules and Restrictions

Reasons for House Points-
Class Related Points-
Authorities- Class professors and co-professors with professor status.
Valid For- All classes with a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly schedule of lessons and assignments.

Class Work-
Limits- Fifteen points per assignment.
A student can earn up to 15 points per assignment for class work. Class work is work on lessons and assignments. The limit of 15 points will be automatically supervised by the house points database, and everything above the limit will be deleted.

Exams-
Limits- Thirty points per exam.
Every class is expected to hold two exams per term - one mid-term exam and one end-of-term exam. What percentage is needed to pass an exam is up to every class professor, also how many points s/he gives for an exam that is not perfect.

Extra Work-
Limits- Fifteen points per task.
Everything that is not lesson- or assignment-based might qualify for "extra work" house points. Examples: points for student tutors and assistants; points for helping the professor with work, design or setting up special areas/tasks; points for in-class projects or contests; other reasons that are class-related and that the professor wants to award points for.

Quidditch Related Points-
Authorities- Head Office, Quidditch Staff
Valid For- All Quidditch matches and the Hogwarts Quidditch Cup. All Quidditch points are "team points".

Match Awards-
Match Award- The final score of every match will be added as house points as well as Quidditch points.
MVP Award- The "most valuable player" of the match earns additional 25 points for his/her house.
The members of the Hogwarts Quidditch Board (present at the match) and the referees vote for the MVP immediately after the match has ended.

Quidditch Cup-
The Hogwarts Quidditch Cup will be awarded after the final match of the season. Winning a single match gives three match points for the winner, none for the losing team; a tie gives one match point to both teams. If there is a tie in match points at the end of the season, the team with the best score balance wins (the sum of all scored points minus the sum of all points that have been scored against the team). If total match points and balance are still the same, then the team with the most scores during all six matches is in the lead. The Hogwarts Quidditch Cup and the Hogwarts House Cup are seperate awards.

Hogwarts Events, Contests, and Clubs-
Authorities- Head Office, Professors, Headboy/girls or Prefects who are in charge for a particular department or have been authorized by the staff meeting to run a contest or event.
Valid For- Hogwarts library, clubs, publications, writing classes, and all contests and events that have been approved by the staff meeting or the School Board.

Hogwarts Library-
Limits- Fifty points per story put into the Library.
The Hogwarts Library can post writing assignments that are open for all students. Grading and awarding points for submitting texts or stories is up to the librarians, according to the guidelines for points that should have been posted on the library website. The writing classes are by nature self-paced, not based on monthly assignments (also valid for all other classes that are not based on scheduled lessons). The assignments can be posted throughout the school year and texts can be submitted according to the writing professors' guidelines. The number of points that can be earned by a single student in a single writing class or with library work should not extend fifty points.

Hogwarts Magazines and Newspapers-
Limits- Twenty points for each submition that is put into the magazine/newspaper. Five points for each submition that is sent it, but not put into the publication.
Every article or contribution (graphics, letters etc.) that has been published in the paper will be awarded 20 points. Those that are not published, are awarded 5 points.

Hogwarts Events and Contests-
Limits- The points that can be earned in a Hogwarts-wide event or contest must have been approved by the Headmaster or Deputy Headmistress.
Everyone can suggest a contest or event for all of Hogwarts. The idea must be presented to the Headmaster or Deputy Headmistress. The Head Staff approves the event/contest. When approved the following rules apply: the event or contest must be announced properly on the Hogwarts News page, and all Hogwarts magazines/newspapers to make sure that everyone who cares, knows of it. Points for the winners and/or participants are to be decided by the Head Staff.

Bravery-
Authorities- Head Office, Heads of House
Valid For- legitimate bravery, solving a dispute between students, stuff, standing in for Hogwarts etc.

Description Missing
Extra Work-
Authorities- Head Office, Heads of House
Valid For- work or initiative for all of Hogwarts
The Head Office, Heads of House can (should!) award points for students who are doing exceptional work for the Hogarts community - for all of the Hogwarts community! Examples for this are exceptional (and the stress here is on 'exceptional') work on the Forum, boards or chats (organizing, moderating, administrating), Admission Office work, everything related to the general Quidditch tournament, maintaining FAQs or other official HOL webpages etc. This category is comparable to the "extra work" part with class-related points. There is a lot of initiative and work involved and necessary to keep HOL up-to-date and to improve everything to make it even better. To avoid discussions about this kind of extra work points, these can be awarded only by the head professors or the Head Office - every member of Hogwarts is encouraged to suggest points awards to members of the Head Staff.

General Limits-
The general limit (maximum) for any individual points award (also negative points) is 200 points. No single award should go beyond that limit, also not artificially split up into two or more awards.

Negative House Points-
Authorities- Head Office, Heads of House, Professors, Headstudents, Prefects
Points can be taken for violating the Hogwarts school rules. Privacy and security violations, misbehavior, discrediting and other violations of the Hogwarts rules. A missed deadline or a delay in class work does qualify for taking house points.

Submitting House Points-
Authorities- Head Office, Heads of House, Professors, Headstudents, Prefects
Points are submitted to [email protected]

Also, students can earn 10 house points for referring another person to join Hogwarts!
