| Eastern Hognose- (Heterodon platyrhinos) Length: Max-45 1/2 inches Diet: Toads, frogs, other amphibians** (In captivity-I have had Eastern Hognose eat all of the following-Toads, Frogs, Rodents, Fish, Salamanders, --both scented and unscented. Other known foods taken include: Lizards and earthworms.) Range: Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisianna, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kanasas, Missouri, Illinios, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Nebraska, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Kentucky, and SE Canada. Not commonly bred in captivity, due to difficulty in feeding. Becoming more popular as a pet as more feeding information is made available and it has become known that they will eat things other than toads. Still, a specialized diet is required. see feeding page** Beyond the feeding requirements-Eastern Hognose do very well in capitivity-but because of the specialized kiet-it is not recommended for people with little or no experience in caring for difficult species.
