Did any of your Hogans come to Kentucky? Counties of Garrard,
Jessamine and Fayette had my ancestors Hogan in them. Particularly Garrard.
I am descended from James Hogan, b. 1752 VA and d. 1811 in Garrard Co., KY
. Married Elizabeth _______.
Also, I am searching for a Richard Hogan who came to KY with
Daniel Boone in 1774. Richard's wife was Rebecca, and I believe he had a
daughter, Elizabeth, but not sure. Richard left KY and went to Sumner Co.,
TN. He is said to have been from the Yadkin Valley. Do not know his
birthplace. Thank you for your time.
Mary
(then)My ancestor, James, was b. April 22, 1752 in VA and d. 18 Jan. Garrard Co.,
KY. His wife, Elizabeth, is buried beside him in a marked grave in
Bryantsville, KY (Garrard Co.). His grave is twice marked. The original
marker is still readable and about 20 years ago I had James' grave marked
by the DAR. The cemetery is now well-kept, but for many years, it was in a
terrible shape. James' son, John, my ancestor, is also buried there in a
marked grave.
Children of James Hogan:
1. William (under legal age in 1814) m. Love Chrisman in Jessamine Co. I
have a copy of a picture of William and Love.
2. Elizabeth m. James Baldock 29 July 1799, Garrard Co.
3. Catherine (Katy) b. 5/2/1778 VA d. KY 2/14/1809 m. Mason Moss
4. James m. Nancy Irvine (?)
5. Mary m. -----Aldridge
6. Rebecca m William McMurtry
7. Sally m. James Dunn
8. *John b. 1791 m. 1811 Polly Dunn (I come down through their daughter,
Mary, who married Peter Farley)
9. Samuel m. Elizabeth Dunn
James Hogan was in the Revolutionary War, received many, many land grants
(of which I have copies), owned and operated the first ferry in Garrard Co
and the first tobacco warehouse. At his death, he owned property in
Rockcastle, Jessamine, Laurel , Garrard and Scott Counties. He was in
Capt. Pettus' Co of Taylor's Regt. of VA Jan. to July, 1780 and came to KY
1781.

I believe Elizabeth was James' second wife. My John was from Elizabeth.
My ancestor, John, was probably the black sheep of the family even though
he was well-to-do. He drank excessively and in a "fit of drunken rage"
murdered one of his slaves. I am not proud of that, naturally, but at
least he made the news and was traceable. He and my grandmother, Polly
Dunn, dau of Benjamin and Margaret Hocker Dunn, were separated at the time
of his death. She is buried in Danville and he in Bryantsville. She
started divorce proceedings against him when he murdered the slave, but
later dropped the suit (she found out she was pregnant), and went back to
him when he got out of prison. He must have become intolerable, and she
didn't want to be buried with him. She is buried on daughter, Julia's lot
in Danville. Julia had married and lived in Danville.
child iii. John HOGAN. Member, with brothers William and James HOGAN, of Daniel Boone's second scouting party into Kentucky in 1779-80. With brother James began one of Kentucky's first ferry services at the mouth of Hickman Creek, Jessamine County. Ferried pioneers for many years across the Kentucky River.
Was the GGGG grandfather of Marilyn Monroe.
child iv. Samuel HOGAN(224) was to KY with Boone from NC.(224)
child v. Griffin HOGAN(224) was went from NC to GA. Griffen HOGAN (28). Married Mary GIBSON (29).

Children of Griffen HOGAN and Mary GIBSON:

1 Elizabeth HOGAN (27), born 6 Mar 1775 in NC, died 9
Jan 1849
in Dooly Co, GA. Married about 1792, David

born 16 Dec 1768 in Anson Co, NC, died 21 Aug 1832 in

rens Co, GA, son of John CULPEPPER (30) and Agnes
