| We like to move around and physically participate in our learning. The more we move and wiggle and get involved in reading, the better we can learn how to read and spell. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We read a lot of books by Eric Carle and then made Eric Carle collages! Isn't this purple pig cute? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After studying Beatrix Potter and her books for a month, we had a tea party, just like she would have done! We learned about really dainty snacks, how to use our manners, and how to be polite. Above is one of our boys being nice and pulling out the chair for a lady. To the left we are learning the rule about how to say words with two vowels. "When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking and the second one does the walking." The first vowel has the megaphone so that we know it makes noise...the second vowel covers his mouth so he's only walking and not talking. |

| We practice our words a lot in first grade so we can become better readers. In the picture on the far right we are making compound words! In the picture on the left we're practicing our spelling words on chalkboards. We do this every day! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Here we are on the carpet putting words in order to make sentences! This is a way that we learn how sentences should sound and how we should write them. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
