The Wright Brothers 100th Anniversary of Their First Flight December 17, 1903
To celebrate this historic event our class participated in the Wright On! project hosted by Susan Silverman. Click here to see our work posted on her site and be sure to check out the work done by first and second grade classes from all over the country. Be sure to sign her guestbook as well.
Here we see our farthest flying plane.
These were our top three flyers for both flights.
One day the children had the challenge to make a paper airplane. First three children shared what they knew about making planes. Then the kids were on their own. They also got to take test flights in the room and try to improve on their design. They were encouraged to name their plane just like the Wright Brothers did. The disc with the pictures of the kids working on their planes now has a disc error so no pictures of the design process.
I had planned on flying the planes outside but surprise surprise it was raining the next day! So we headed down to the gym. Here we see the kids anxiously awaiting to test their flyer.

Congratulations!
