European Invasion!!
With over 100 players coming over from Sweden, Russia, Finland and Czech Republic, the Old Time Hockey League (OTHL) will be able to fill 8 full teams as well as be able to expand within 3 or 4 seasons. "We are very excited to have these players in the league and look forward to having their younger players in our future drafts," said commish Dave Brown. "Although we probably will not see many of these players in the pros this season, the minor league system should allow for a lot of these players to develop and learn the north american system. I suspect that several europeans will dominate the minors and develop into strong pro level players."
Looking Ahead to the 43 Draft:
There are 5 clear cut players above the rest but 4 out of the 5 are 24 years of age and older. Billy Reay is a 25 year old center who is good at both ends of the ice, but isnt a strong passer. Fern Majeau, 27, is not only a good passer, but is also the best scorer in the this draft. He is fast and a great skater. Roger Leger is the best defenseman in this draft and he is 24 years old. He is above average in his own end, while being a decent passer and puck controller. He is also hard to get off of the puck due to his strength.
The youngest player in the draft at 17 is goaltender Harry Lumley. He can move side to side with little effort and is quick about it. His best assest is his ability to control rebounds either eating them up in his equipment or directing the shots away from the net. The big stud of the draft is 27 year old goalie Bill Durnan. With no real weakness in his game, he could very well turn the team that drafted him from one of the worse in the league to one of the best within a season or two. The only concern is his age and the fact that once his entry level contract is over, he could be a UFA.
