| Miss Brown of X.Y.O. by E. Philips Oppenheim |

This book depicts a world when London had pea-souper fogs, cars had running boards, heroes were chiselled jawed and villians were dastardly. On the one hand it may be dated and un-pc, on the other hand it is a great deal of fun. Our heroine is Miss Brown, a stenographer, who is lost in the London fog. She is resting in a quiet sidestreet, when a manservant happens upon her. He spots her typewriter and asks her to do a spot of emergency short hand for his employer. She discovers that the mysterious gentleman has been shot and that his assassin's body is still in the room... A highly enjoyable romp through an old fashioned romantic adventure.
