How I Feel About Being a Writer

Writing is an important part of every individual’s life. From the time we are little, the letters of the English alphabet are taught to us. Those letters become words, words to sentences, sentences to paragraphs, and so on. But once we are able to write full pieces of work, what is the next level we can bring our writing to?

I have always considered English to be my weakest subject. I have a high IQ and find working logically through math and science to come naturally. History and language also come easily because of my above-average memory. But creativity has always been a weak point. Writing papers comes pretty easily to me, and essays about assigned topics are not too difficult either. Writing stories, poetry, and other fictional and expressive pieces of work are where I struggle. Sure, like many other people in this class, I chose to take Expository Writing because my guidance counselor suggested it to me, but it was one of many choices available. I picked Expository Writing because I find writing to be the most commonly applied skill learned in an English class. While a class like Mythology or American Film might be more interesting and less work intensive, this class is one that will allow me to further my skills in writing essays, papers, and other common works of writing. Although my weaknesses are in the creative parts of writing, I have no desire to improve my creativity because I am just not interested in that type of work. I really hope to improve my skills in essay writing and writing papers that I will need for many classes I am currently taking, and many classes I will take in the future.

I never really enjoyed reading and have found other ways to express myself than through works of writing; however I do know that writing will be an important part of my academic career, as well as my professional career. I hope Expository Writing will continue to build on my foundation of writing ability so that I can excel in the future.
