| On August 28, Fantasy players gathered
to determine who would be the ultimate Warlord in Hobby Café’s annual
WARLORDS fantasy tournament.
Unlike last year's tournament, this year's tournament was held in-store
due to the fact that most Fantasy players are still waiting for
their army books to came out. Nevertheless the players made the
most of the situation and 8 players showed up to try their generalship
skills
The different armies that
fought were the following:
Vampire Counts : 3
Lizardmen
: 2
Dwarf
: 1
Orcs & Goblins
: 1
Wood Elf
: 1
As can be seen a high proportion
of Vampire Counts were about, attempting to stake there claim
as the Warlord. Would one of them attain the throne or would the
rest usurp them?

A Few close matches and major
upsets as well as total annihilation was seen in the battles:

This could be seen between Joel
and Matt. By turn three both sides had reduced each other to just
two regiments each. By turn 4 there was only the regiment where
each general was.

Several opponents realized the
up-hill battle in trying to “kill” the undead and making them
stay down in the dirt. The Dwarfs regardless of their high skills
and leadership broke and ran against such fear causing forces.
Larry’s accurate firing of cannons blew up rank upon rank of undead
but they just kept on popping up like weeds. One cannon blew clean
a Necromancer hiding in a regiment of skeletons. Finally Peter’s
Vampire Count reached the Dwarf runelord and hacked him to bits
sealing his win.

The toughness of the Carsteins
would be seen again as Peter faced the Wood Elves. Though after
4 turns the undead army was reduced to just the Vampire Count
and the Black Coach, Peter played on. In the 4th turn his Vampire
managed to charge a regiment of Archers and proceeded to hack
them to bits. An impressive 15 Archers were killed by the Carstein
vampire when the game ended.
It was of course inevitable
that Vampire would face Vampire. Ricky went up against Joel in
a bloody battle. Vampire Count fought against Vampire Count in
an epic duel. Ricky’s scream of triumph could be heard across
the store as his Vampire felled Joel’s general with a Killing
blow.

Freddie’s tactics of using the
Stegadon and Kroxigors in attacking one regiment allowed them
to punch holes in the opposition, destroying Zombie Regiments
before they can be raised again and totally obliterating an Orc
Warboss and his retinue of Black Orcs.

His Skinks also were more than
a nuisance to the slower armies, shooting with there poisoned
tipped arrows and then fading. This was what happened to Ricky
as he failed to kill anything in Freddie’s army except for two
Skinks.

As always, unpredictability
and total confusion arose whenever the Orcs were about. Successful
casting of Gork’s Warpath caused far ranging destruction in Sonny’s
Wood Elves. However twice Gork’s warpath hit Carlo’s Giant, finally
killing it. However the giant fell on top of a bunch of Scouts crushing
them and causing the rest to flee. Sudden deft maneuvering by
Glade Riders by Sonny managed to deal out a draw.
Against Matt’s Lizardmen Carlo’s
Giant headbutting the Stegadon killed it and he’s Orc Regiments
weathered the kroxigor charge. He then proceeded to destroy everything
in the army. In his final game against Freddie’s Lizards revenge
was exacted as the fury of Slann Magic fell on the Orcs wiping
them out.
The Final Tally of Scores was
done after 3 Rounds of Intense combat. The results can be seen
below.
