| SNAKE FLOWER II 'Turn Back Time' - 7" EP (Shake Your Ass) This 4-tracks EP carries the sixties dreamy sound of great bands such as Move, Chocolate Watchband, and Love.... across the current garagepunk environment. Snake Flower II was founded by Matthew M. Melton who recently relocated to San Francisco from Memphis, TN. Memphis was his home where he had lived his entire life. He left Memphis to go on tour with the first arrangement of the group, Snake Flower (one), which included notable Los Angeles based conceptual performance artist Bunny Lampert, and Cole Weintraub (Kazalok,The Barbaras). When Snake Flower "I" fell apart apon the group's arrival in California, Melton reformed the project with Donnelle Malnik (Nervous Breakdowns) and Paula Frazer (Tarnation, Birdman Records). Right now the current line-up includes Will Axe on drums. As a young musician, Matthew's projects in Memphis included The Break Ups, The River City Tan Lines, and The Bare Wires where he collaborated with Alicja Trout and Jack O Yarber. The recordings on SYA019 Turn Back Time ep were all written and recorded on a simple 4 track tape machine at an infamous bohemian crash pad in San Francisco belonging to a girl named Frankie, who is also known as Truth Hawk. The place was bizarre and frequented by numerous characters. Melton stayed there initially upon moving to San Francisco from Memphis. Quirky and sincere all of the tracks on the Turn Back Time 7" were surprisingly recorded in one take. 3 Submarine Races 7" (Shit Sandwich) First offering from former Pony Ian and a couple of his new pals. Kinda twangy, as per the Ponys, with a decent Minutemen cover on the flip. Haven't heard the LP yet, but I'll certainly be getting it. 2.50 This Damn Town (SYA) 7" Bassy piano-tinged rockin' (sometimes a little rockabilly) stuff, with echoed-out vocals that bring to mind Danzig. Alex Cuervo of Blacktop fame forms part of the rhythm section for this unit, so you know it can't be wrong. 3 THIS DAMN TOWN ‘VICTIM’ 7” 4 wavy, catchy and theatric tunes of rhythmic, powerful and tasteful garage rock n roll brightness from this Austin cats featuring Alex Cuervo and Kari Luna . 2 editions: CHAINS OF HEAVEN ED. (250 copies) and CURSED TOWN ED. (249 copies). Numbered with red ink stamp. 3.50 |
