Poem ALCOHOLISM We call it simply a disease So we would bear no shame; And those who profit from its sale Would surely bear no blame. An "addiction" is a better word, A "disease" it is not; The "cause" of all the heartache We seem to have forgot.. Some things are, oh, so very wrong That words cannot explain; When little children are abused And thousands killed or maimed. So why are we so foolish To cover up the sin? To think that in taxation That we can somehow win. The tax we get if we are "wet," Could not begin to pay The physical damage it has caused Or the suffering of "one" day. But in God's sight on Judgment Day When men reap what they sow, The suffering they have caused to man, The "books" will surely show. So when it all is said and done, The victims, one and all; The greatest killer in our midst We call it alcohol. |
