Vaclav Havel
-Vaclav Havel stood up to the communist leadership in Czechoslovakia, and consquently spent a total of five years in prison. A playwright, poet, and essayist, his works were banned by the communists. In 1989, Vaclav Havel was elected president of Czechoslavakia. He was re-elected in 1990. Later, in 1993, he was elected the first president of the Czech Republic.
