Wings Downed by Sharks 8-3
Thursday January 8, 2003

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -  Another game against the Sharks,  another game of  getting bad breaks. The Wings played much better this game then in their last meeting, but that's of little consolaton now that the team has dropped 4 games in a row.

The Wings had some early flourishes and good pressure in the 1st period but had nothing to show for it, as they trailed 2-0 at the end of the period.  The 2nd period has been the Wings worst period all season, and last night's game held true to form, as we were outscored 4-1 in the period, with the only tally coming from
Clay Alt late in the period when the score was already 5-0. Also some odd calls went against the team, one in fact  allowed a goal for the Sharks clearly after a whistle was blown.

One positive from the game was the way the team played in the 3rd period, after trailing 7-1, the Wings got 2 quick goals from
Mick McManus and Greg Kliniewski to make it a 7-3 game, and thad a lot of chances later on in the period that were near misses.  The Sharks then added a late goal to finish out the scoring.  Goalie Dave Gray stopped 26 of 34 shots.
