NAME: Nerrissa Maybellene Morgan

AGE: 21

HAIR COLOR: Dusty blondy-brown, shoulder length, tied back.

EYE COLOR: Muddy Green

HIGHT: 5ft 2

RANK: Acting Lieutenant [waiting for promotion]

HISTORY: Her father was a captain of a merchant vessel the 'Jenny Wren' on which she served for 3 years. Her mother was a daughter of a baker. She grew up in a tiny flat in London with her mother and siblings. The only escape from their 'poor' conditions was through her imagination from reading books. [Having learned to read at a dame school, which is why her writing is sometimes not up to scratch]. She joined the ship after seeing an advertisement on a bulletin board.

PERSONALITY: She is obedient, and tries her best even if she fails. She likes the structure of existence the voyage gives her. She is a man's woman rather than a woman’s woman and so can seem a little aloof but she's just uncomfortable with being sociable. She works better independently but when she's in a group she leads from behind...willing to give someone else the credit if it means an easier life. She's good at ideas but sometimes her practical skills will let her down. She's a daydreamer and loves a good book. And has a kooky kind of sarcastic sense of humor. Irony is (metaphorically) her middle name.

DESCRIPTION: Nerrissa can sew [well I suppose that was nothing unusual back then] and is willing to 'customize' a hammock or uniform. She actually made her own uniform, as she couldn't find one 'off the rail' so to speak. It’s basically like the navy uniform except the waistcoat over the blouse is corseted and the jacket is more like a long frock coat. She also wears a 'dutch cap  [I think that’s what its called (its like the hat John Lennon wears)] instead of the normal hat because its more flattering and practical.

The Heat of Battle:

Nerrissa will fight a battle only if it’s brought to her...she's not the type to go searching for a fight. She can keep her head in a battle situation, falling back on what she knows from the drills and gun practice when she's unsure of herself.

Being Alone with a Man:

She will try to avoid this kind of situation at all costs, but if there is no choice she will take one of three routes.1) Go back to her Tomboy-ish way and try and act like one of the lads [she can hold her own in a belching contest] 2) If she 'likes' the male in question she will giggle involuntarily. And look away when she realizes she's staring. 3) Show respect for a superior officer, although she’s not afraid to give a bit of sarcastic witticism.

Relationships:

She hates to admit it but worries a lot what people think of her. She won't tolerate bullying and will always stick up for the underdog. Sometimes, she can be a bit aggressive, but it’s just her defense mechanism.
