Tanna & Haora:
Two sisters originally from the South Sea Islands; forcibly indentured by British operators little better than slavers whose stock in trade consists of literally snatching native islanders away whereupon they're pressed into a variety of differing services - usually farm labourers upon nearby colonies, servants and domestic staff back in the UK, the armed services etc. nasty stuff. As mentioned previously, through some quiet work of Capt. Jones with assistance from none other than Admiral Regent herself, an opportunity for a more decent life was offered them aboard Monstrous (as stated earlier, any attempts to repatriate them though possible may leave them vulnerable to being simply seized again. Due to their strength, stamina and stature (not to mention willingness to help wherever assigned) they found themselves part of a gun crew operating the heaviest of weapons. a little time spent talking with Judith in the mess however revealed their culinary talents and preference to serve in that particular capacity instead; whereupon negotiations being made, they were assigned to Mary, Judith's 2IC.
Cousins: Tanna 23; Haora 25.
Typical appearance of Islander ladies.
***
Mary: Judith's salvation upon being exiled to Jamaica for, shall we say, an infraction of protocol aboard her last vessel in order that the provisions for Capt. and crew were secured from the thieving Dreadnaught Foster. She An older widow herself, she supported Miss Elliott (actually a widowed Mrs. herself) to use her talents and experience commercially - the two of them opening and running a popular coffee house until Admiral Elliott (aware of and firmly against Judith's treatment - 'lenient' though it was,) recruited her aboard her experimental vessel with the agreement of Capt. Jones, curious as to what really lay behind the charges and sentence of such a competent woman.
Mary: Widowed, 45, classic Jamaican lady in appearance and dress - her father a freed slave. Marina: (also goes by the name of Mariam) Malay young lady who found herself by dint of circumstance a stranger in a strange land - literally rescued by one of Monstrous soon-to-be crew; brought to the attention of Judith due to shared cultural understandings whereupon she happily agreed to a new position and a new life (unable to return to her home and family because of tragedy.
Name: Marina (Mariam), 28, never married, in attire and appearance, typical Malay (down to the Bayjou Karong or Kabarong style of clothing which is her trademark.
Veronica: Maltese, 30, free spirit, has 'run away to sea - literally).
Lulu and Yasmine: Sisters, 25 and 27 respectively, Young ladies of Oran, tired of the hum-drum 'respectable' life, they both are runaways, stowaways and in Portsmouth at the right time and place. Judith just seems to attract 'em, doesn't she (smile). Though of mixed backgrounds, they are honest girls who are dedicated to this incredible opportunity and love the challenge set before them. Judith's upbringing and experience endows her with the skill needed to manage the differing cultural backgrounds, ideas and personalities nicely - even afar from her new post with the officers - Mary an excellent leader to them in her own right (now steward to the crew).
Now assigned to serve the officers (along with Lulu) Mary and the remainder work alongside Ruth's general cook character, Sadie.
