Julienne Thornell teaches instrumental music and directs the Bands, grades 5-8, as well as the Jazz Band.  She has been the Director of Bands at Hanover Middle School since 2001. She graduated from Hartwick College with a B.S. in Music Education, and she received her Master's degree from UMASS Boston.  Prior to her current position in Hanover, Mrs. Thornell worked at the high school and elementary level, including marching band and jazz bands.

Mrs. Thornell continues to perform on trombone, including orchestras, jazz bands and concert bands.  She has performed with several Massachusetts groups including the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, Quincy Symphony and Longwood Symphony. She has served as a adjudicator for the Southeast Mass. District Festivals, the S.E.M.S.B.A. Festivals, and has served as a Jr. District Festival Chairperson and Band Manager.
