- Rule Number One.
We are here to play volleyball and have fun.
- We don't have referees.
- We play
competitive volleyball
for
fun.
Remember, if you are among those who always try to put
everything you have into a spike, it may be fun for you but
may be impinging on the fun of any of the players who are afraid
of getting hurt.
Since what is an
unreasonably hard spike
differs from person to
person, we give anyone on the receiving team the right to call a
replay when
having fun is in danger.
I don't expect this will happen very often, but a player who is
afraid should let the other team know when he or she feels
the need to send a message.
- Try to call yourself for violations such as carries and net
touches.
Remember Rule Number One.
- If there's a controversy on a play, play the rally over.
Remember Rule Number One.
- Please note that just because you saw someone touch the
net or saw the ball roll on his/her body, don't assume the
person felt the net or the double contact.
It's OK to point out what you saw, but please be courtious,
calm and polite when you do so.
Most of all -- Remember Rule Number One.
- Amy Robinson (or her appointed representative) is in charge.
But she is not the referee. Replay the point.
Remember Rule Number One.
-
Server point
usually to 15. If we are short on time we sometimes play to 11.
-
Net serves
are legal.
- Kicking the ball is illegal and frowned upon.
We had a player kick the ball, hard, into another player's face.
It was rather unpleasant to witness and I understand it
was rather painful.
No kicking! (No biting either.)
- Touching the net with any part of your body or clothing,
as a result of attempting to play the ball, is a violation.
- Hair touching the net is not a violation.
- If the ball pushes the net into you, that is not a violation.
- You may not step over the Center Line.
You may not interfere with an opposing player under the net.
Contact above the net is legal.
- Blocking the ball across the net above the opponents area
is permitted provided the opponent has completed an attack hit.
- You may block over after the opponents 3rd hit.
- You may not block over and interfere with a set.
- You may not block over and touch the ball before the
attacker has hit the ball.
- You may not block over and touch the ball simulataenously
with the attack.
- But you may block the ball a split second after the ball
has left the attacker's hand.
- A double block (aka, joust, where both players are
blocking each other) is legal.
- If the ball hit by your team hits the ceiling and remains on
your side, your team may hit it again (as if it didn't hit the
ceiling at all). However, you are still limited to 3 hits and
no double hits.
- If the ball hit the ceiling and goes over to the opponent's
area, it is out. (Rally awarded to the opponent).
- If a ball hits a hanging obstruction (below the plane of the
ceiling's support beams), such as ropes or a basketball backboard,
it's a replay. However, a serve that hits such an obstruction
is out of bounds.
- If you want any rule clarified or rewritten,
e-mail
me (Hugh).
If necessary, I'll discuss the matter with Amy.
