We have a behavior plan in our room that helps children be aware of and accountable for their behavior.
For example:
Green card Great Day!
Purple card Warning, Stop and Think!
Yellow card A visit to the Reflection Chair
Orange card A second visit to the Reflection Chair
Red card A third visit to the Reflection Chair and a Behavioral Referral
All children begin every day with a green card. If your child chooses not to follow our rules, then he/she will be given one verbal warning. If the unacceptable behavior continues, their card is changed from green to purple. A purple card is a reminder to your child that he/she needs to stop and think about their behavior. If the unacceptable behavior continues, the card will be changed to yellow, then orange and finally red. Your child will visit the reflection chair and will fill out a response sheet each time. If they are on red, I will then fill out a behavior referral. The reflection chair gives your child a chance to step away from the situation that is causing disruption. This is a non-punitive way for your child to collect his/her thoughts and consider alternative ways to handle situations.
The children, who remain on green for the entire week, will receive a reward (treasure box trip, stickers, pencils etc). Children who stay on green and purple for the whole month, will attend a spirit day activity at the end of each month. The boys and girls who received a yellow, orange, or red card will not be able to attend this activity.
Every week your child will be given a GO FOR GREEN paper. This will give you a chance to see if their light was changed for the day. Please keep this paper in their red folder at all times. I will remove it on Monday mornings and your child will receive a new one. When their light is changed, I will indicate the reason why by writing a number next to the box. This will correlate with the My Light Was Changed Today Because section. Please make sure that you sign it before Monday. It would be helpful if you talked to your child about the unacceptable behavior that got their card turned and help them think of ways to help decrease the behavior. |
