On August 2, 2002 our students had an opportunity to spend a day at work to allow them to get first hand experience in his or her field of interest. Each student was paired with a volunteer based on his or her interests and accompanied that person to observe a day's work.

The day was a big hit with the students and volunteers alike, here is a look at one partnership’s experience:

Brandon Martin got to spend the day with Lea Harvin who is a Software Engineer for Nuklias, Inc in Greensboro. While there Brandon got a tour of the office, sat in on brief meetings, watched over Java programming, played cutting edge video games and developed his own web site. Take a look at Brandon's work.

Lea's Comments:

It was a pleasure having Brandon in the office. He's a fast learning, he picked up HTML programming faster then some adults I know. I probably spent only a half hour teaching him how to use the software program to build the site, the rest he figured out on his own. He would ask a question here and there but he spent the majority of time putting together the site. Everyone in the office loved his personality and we wish him the best for the future. Brandon has a good foundation in math and science right now to be a really good programmer in the future. He told me before he left that when he gets out of school, he's going to come back to Nuklias and become my boss! Aim high and you'll always be amongst the stars.
