You know what you are
Some superstar
That's never been anywhere
Me, I won't pretend to
Say I don't see through
Some phoney standing up there
Hunter stood in the middle of the locker room, his gaze focused wholely on the tiny monitor in front of him as the images of his two former compadres' as they made there way through the curtain to pause at the top of the ramp to let the crowd get a look at the next WWE World Champion, a man who had gained a reputation as being the Legend Killer within the ranks of the WWE.
A man who had set his sights on more then just legends and hall of famers. A man who had set his sights on him and had won in gaining superior status within Evolution. A man who out of all the wrestlers in the WWE had the determination, the quickness and the backing to actually come out the new WWE Champion. And who knows, if Hunter had decided to stay back at the hotel instead of accompanying Lita for her match, Randy Orton may have just gotten his wish tonight.
A dash of red flashed in his peripheral vision and he didn't have to turn his head to know that Lita now stood at his side. 'Yet, there was something his former protege would never have,' The corner of his mouth lifted up in a half smile. 'Lita.'
Close your eyes and hope that no one else will see
Realize, exactly what you'll never be
This time, the curtain's landing on you
Some day, I'm going to see this come true
'Did he think he could just turn on the cerebral assassin and that would be the end of it?' his hands balled into fists in anticipation. 'You'd think with the amount of time they had spent together the young upstart would have figured out that it takes more then a little setback like losing the title to keep The Game down.'
His mistake had been thinking that Hunter would stay down and he was not too ashamed to admit that at one time that was exactly what he was planning on doing, until he had a visit from a redheaded pixie who had coaxed and tempted him out of his gloomy state and thrown him head first into what they now deemed as 'their' era.
All in all he truly wished Randy well in his match against Goldberg, god knew he was going to need it.
And, if when all this is said and done, by some minor miracle of sorts, Randy does leave tonight the new WWE World Champion, well, that would just sweeten the pot because that would put Hunter that one step closer to beating him within a inch of his life, right there in that squared circle.
Payback definitely was a bitch and he couldn't wait to see that cocky smirk beaten off Randy's face.
Back when, when we were friends
Now till the end
You promised we'd always be
Now it seems you've got a different dream
Thanks for including me
You spell "we" so differently
His gaze now fell on the older of the two men.
Out of the two men, Flair was the one he had counted on. He had been by his side since the first and Hunter had thought of him like a brother.
Unbeatable.
Solid.
A force to reckoned with.
Yet, now, all Hunter saw as he gazed at the man standing side by side with Randy Orton was an impurity born of friendship, a dreg of society and a decaying mass of human flesh.
He cocked an eyebrow and his face bore a thoughtful expression. 'Maybe he was laying it on a little too thick?' then his gaze fell on the redhead who was looking in a mirror primping her hair, she smiled as her gaze locked with his in the mirror and he returned her smile.
She was the one who had come to him, in the short amount of time they had all been a faction compared to the length of time he and Flair had been friends, it was Lita who had sought him out, cleaned him up and stayed by his side.
'Nah, he wasn't laying it on thick at all.'
Close your eyes and hope that no one else will see
Realize, exactly what you'll never be
This time, the curtain's landing on you
Some day, I'm going to see this come true
He felt Lita at his side now and he wrapped his arm around her waist pulling her flush against his side, his head turning slightly to place a kiss on the top of her head.
"You okay?" she asked her hand trailing up to play along the neckline of his shirt.
Hunter reached out and flicked the switch that would bring the flashing monitor to darkness and turned to wrapped both arms around the woman who had come to mean more to him then his former Faction, Evolution, his former WWE World Championship Title and as his short stay in doom and gloom land had proved, his life.
His response was to capture his lips with his and show her with a kiss how 'okay' he was.
When he pulled away her face was flushed and her eyes stormy and he reluctantly released all but her hand and lead her towards the door.
"Come on," he whispered, reaching behind him to open the door. "I have still to keep my side of our arrangement."
She smiled warmly up at him as he continued.
"Let's go win you that Women's Title."
The End
