It features the internal power struggles within the inn, blended with desert treasure hunts, palace intrigue, and undercover machinations by the Eastern and Western Depots, forming a grander Wuxia world. Tsui Hark has long pushed the boundaries of Chinese-language filmmaking through continual exploration and experimentation. Following the then-burgeoning 3D technology in Hollywood, this film is the first Chinese-language Wuxia film to be released in 3D.
