MISCELLANEOUS * (2026/01/21) The film BACK TO THE PAST as of the day before yesterday had the latest box office figure in Hong Kong was HK$ 77,314,972, which was a good result. In Taiwan, it has also accumulated a box office of NT$12 million (about HK$3.11 million). Playing the role of "King of Qin", Raymond Lam Fung once said that when Louis Koo Tin Lok and Jessica Hsuan (Suen Huen) went to Taiwan to meet the audience, he called in and expressed his hope to take the time to meet fans there. Lam Fung indeed would be a man of his words, later he would visit Taiwan to thank the audience. It would also his first trip there to promote a movie. A few days ago Koo Tin Lok (Goo Jai) had a dinner with the members of the new Performing Artists Guild, and played a card drawing game with Louis Cheung Kai Chung and Kaki Sham. Whoever drew the character card of "Hong Siu Lung" could get the role in the next movie. Goo Jai said, "I am Hong Siu Lung!" Since Cheung Kai Chung has already participated in the film, he was asked by the people present to give up the role to others if he was selected. Cheung Kai Chung joked, "Then if I don't win, I won't be in the next installment." In the end no one drew "Hong Siu Lung", so it was changed to whoever drew the "King" drawn by Goo Jai would win. In the end Cheung Kai Chung really won and he shouted excitedly, "Everyone remember to go to the theater to support BACK TO THE PAST." The movie Goo Jai has produced in recent years have all been critical and commercial successes. In addition to his own efforts, a hidden master behind him has been rumored to arrange feng shui arrays for him, and dispatch hot water pots and golden bells to promote his career. In addition, becoming a hit with the popularity of the character "Sin Yau" in the film, Joyce Tang Lai Ming recently chartered a show to watch the movie with fans and celebrate her 50th birthday. Fans sent an ingenious cake, which had a still of her 25 years ago. Yet as long as the surface is burned off with a lighter, her portrait in the film BACK would appear. She commented, "Thank you to a group of babies for enjoying BACK TO THE PAST with me, So Sweet." * (2026/01/21) A member of the group MIRROR Edan Lui Cheuk On together with Chung Suet Ying and Jiro Li Sheung Ching went to Causeway Bay yesterday for a pop-up movie promotion event. For the Lunar New Year film THE SNOWBALL IN A SUNNY DAY (GUM DOR BO) to distribute "Mark Six" lai see and fai chun on the streets, more than 100 passers-by and fans filled the streets early in the morning and needed the police to maintain order . In order to prevent even further chaos, Edan after his interview left in a vehicle without giving away lai see and left the task to Chung Suet Ying and Lee Sheung Ching. Regarding this year's other Hong Kong Lunar New Year film NIGHT KING (YEH WONG) starring Dayo Wong Tze Wah and Sammi Cheng Sau Man, Edan hoped that everyone would support both Lunar New Year films. The three THE SNOWBALL IN A SUNNY DAY actors also came to the pop up to wish the public a Happy New Year in advance. Speaking of preparing the amount of lai see, they humorously pointed out that once THE SNOWBALL would open everyone would know. Edan said that at this sudden publicity event in the district, he felt that everyone was very supportive, and hoped that everyone would go to the movies together to support their Lunar New Year film during the Lunar New Year. The box office goal would be "hundreds of millions", so it would be able to live up to the Chinese title. The reporter asked them how they would pump up the box office after that? Lee Sheung Ching joked that he would wear briefs for 100 million at the box office, and Edan joined in and said that he would wear bikini briefs to thank the audience when the box office would reach 300 million. Edan is celebrating his 29th birthday today, and his wish was to have a little higher box office so he would be confident. This year's Lunar New Year films would also include the Wong Tze Wah and Cheng Sau Man starred NIGHT KING. He said that for Hong Kong to have two Chinese New Year films was rare, and it is best for everyone to watch both in support. Speaking of the costumes of the actors in NIGHT KING have less cloth and are sexier, Edan said with a smile, "We have many revealing scenes. Not only am I topless, neither the child actor nor the dog are wearing clothes. We are stronger than they are, they are wearing clothes." Edan revealed that he would spend his birthday at work, but earlier his sister had birthday dinner with him to celebrate. This time they no longer took a kissy photo. When talking about the silhouette photo of Edan being caught taking the microphone and triggering a hilarious dialogue with his friend Ryan Choi Yin on the Internet, Edan laughed and said, "In the future, I will be more careful with where to put the microphone, and the conversation with him was a war of words. No one would need to take it as the gospel." Did he meet the truth in advertising laws? He said, "First of all I was never specific about my product, I won't reveal too much private stuff. Ultimately it's powerful!" In addition his fans have built a public toilet named after him to celebrate his birthday, Edan thanked his fans for their thoughtfulness and felt that it was very creative and kind. In the future if he would have the opportunity to shoot a program there, he would stop by to check in. However he probably would not try this toilet, or clog it up again. Otherwise he would have to take MIRROR to unclog it together. MIRROR and COLLAR are now under MakerVille's "Vice President of Artist Management, Performance and Concert Business" department, which Edan believed that it should have a good impact. Because MIRROR has 12 people, and now having more people to take care of them would absolutely be a good thing. However some pointed out that his teammate Keung To would switch to another record company, Edan asked instead if he would transfer to the Euro League. He did not know whether the rumor was made up or why it would appear, but as far as he knew nothing like that has happened. The reporter asked if Keung To really changed companies, would he be afraid that MIRROR would be disbanded? Edan said that if Keung To would truly sign with another company, he would first wish him well. As for this question he would have to ask the company how it would handle it. As Ian (Chan Cheuk Yin) has also said, MIRROR has individual contracts and group contracts. Yet he really have not heard of the transfer, so no one would need to to worry. * (2026/01/20) The winners of the "2025 Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards" were announced yesterday. After 14 years in the industry, SOMEONE LIKE ME (JUENG NGOR JEH YEUNG DIK OI CHING)'s Fish Liew Chi Yu achieved a breakthrough of zero and won the "Best Actress" award at the film awards ceremony for the first time; while Louis Koo Tin Lok won the Best Actor title for the movie BEHIND THE SHADOWS (SI GA JING TAM), which also won Best Director. Since this awards ceremony has been regarded as a prelude to the Hong Kong Film Awards in April, the two are expected to go to the next level. CIAO UFO received Best Film, UNIDENTIFIED MURDER (UFO LEI KEI MING ONG) won Best Screenplay. 4 film releases that were eligible VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH (BUT SEH JI JUI), FINCH AND MIDLAND (GUM TIN YING GOR HUNG GO HING), VITAL SIGNS (SUNG YUEN TOH JUNG) and MOTHER BHUMI all were unable to participate in the Hong Kong Film Awards' initial selection. The Hong Kong Film Critic Society responded yesterday that the 4 aforementioned films were in the discussion. Among them VALLEY's George Au Chun Ho and MOTHER HUMI's Fan Bingbing were in the third round of voting for Best Actor and Best Actress. Koo Tin Lok with BEHIND won his first Hong Kong Film Critic Society Best Actor award, crushing THE SHADOW'S EDGE (BO FUNG JUI YING)'s Tony Leung Ka Fai, SOMEONE LIKE ME's Carlos Chan Ka Lok, UNIDENTIFIED MURDER's Peter Chan Charm Man and SHADOW's Au Chun Ho. The Society praised Koo Tin Lok's performance for not being detailed in emotions, "its grasp of the complicated journey of the heart was precise and accurate, lifelike and valued both the dramatic and the comedic. He was in full control of his interaction with his co-stars in the film, displaying the presence and the skills of a top class actor." Koo Tin Lok said, "As 2026 began, another good news has come. I am truly so happy, so excited! Thank you Hong Kong Film Critic Society's recognition of me and the film BEHIND THE SHADOW, I hope everyone would continue to support good Hong Kong films." Reportedly the battle for Best Actress was quite fierce this time. In addition to Fish, BEHIND's Chrissie Chau Sau Na, SHE'S GOT NO NAME's Zhang Ziyi, MOTHER BHUMI's Fan Bingbing and PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG)'s Fala Chen were also in the running in the third round of voting. In the end the race was between Liew Chi Yu and Chau Sau Na. The Society rated Liew Chi Yu started with the appearance of a girl with cerebral palsy, consciously treated her body as software she defined that character's container and unique appearance, suppressed voice, right wrist and lower body, etc. The sexual desire and emotions that are tumbling inside were expressed through the most direct left finger. "Liew Chi Yu not only imitate the physically immobile, but also connecting and bringing to life the body and the heart. She played Ah Mei who ignores the restrictions of the realistic conditions and pursues happiness confidently." Speaking of breaking out this time, Fish admitted, "It is the first time I have won an award from the Film Critics Society, which means a lot. The role I played this time is one of the rare happy ones I have played, and I hope to preserve this beautiful texture and become the nutrient for Liew Chi Yu to continue to move forward. (The Hong Kong Film Awards also have 5 films that have made you eligible for Best Actress.) I would obviously be happy to have awards, but my wish has always been to continue filming and take on more fun and challenging roles." She did not forget to thank her co-star Chan Ka Lok and her onscreen Mama Alice Lau Nga Lai, as well as the production team, Emperor boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing, producer Stanley Kwan Kam Peng, etc. The Jonathan Li Tsz Chun and Chou Yu Man directed BEHIND THE SHADOW crushed SHE'S GOT NO NAME's Peter Chan Ho Sun, Han Shuai and UNIDENTIFIED MURDER's Kwok Ka Hei and Lee Chun Kit, etc. to win Best Director, Li Tsz Chun's second after DUST TO DUST (DAI BAK GOR YIM YI YUN). Best Film had several films with their own supporters and the competition was ferocious. After five rounds of voting, CIAO UFO battled THE SHADOW'S EDGE in the end. The former with genuine emotions touched people's hearts to win Best Film. The Society at the same time announced the Recommendation Awards outside Best Film, the six recommended films included UNIDENTIFIED MURDER, BEHIND THE SHADOW, GIRL, PAWS LAND, ANOTHER WORLD and THE SHADOW'S EDGE. The eligibility of the 2025 Hong Kong Film Critic Society Awards was first run releases that have publicly sold tickets at Hong Kong cinemas last year, with no less than 5 shows within a week of release. 51 Hong Kong films met the criteria; about 15 reached the final discussion. The 4 eligible film releases VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH, FINCH AND MIDLAND, VITAL SIGNS and MOTHER BHUMI were excluded from the Hong Kong Film Awards primaries. The Hong Kong Film Critic Society was asked whether the 4 films were included, and the response was that all 4 were in the discussion. THE 32RD HONG KONG FILM CRITIC SOCIETY AWARDS https://filmcritics.org.hk/node/3576 BEST FILM: CIAO UFO BEST ACTOR: Louis Koo (BEHIND THE SHADOWS) BEST ACTRESS: Fish Liew (SOMEONE LIKE ME) BEST DIRECTOR: Jonathan Li Tsz Chun, Chou Man Yu (BEHIND THE SHADOWS) BEST SCREENPLAY: Kwok Ka Hei,Lee Chun Kit,Ho Siu Hong, Choi Ka Hang (UNIDENTIFIED MURDER) RECOMMENDED FILMS: UNIDENTIFIED MURDER BEHIND THE SHADOWS GIRL PAWS LAND ANOTHER WORLD THE SHADOW'S EDGE * (2026/01/20) Jessica Hsuan (Suen Huen) attended the launching ceremony of the "Hong Kong people's farmland" project and the development of agriculture and fisheries yesterday to support Hong Kong's re-development of agriculture and fisheries. Suen Huen revealed that because she loved to eat too much and her appetite was amazing, she scared many male artists when she first entered the industry. "They feel scared, as a female artist I would eat so much. They even laughed at me for wasting rice, since no matter how much I ate I was still so thin." When asked if she has scared Louis Koo Tin Lok (Goo Jai), she joked, "No, Goo Jai has always treated me like a guy." She admitted that she has never hid her true nature in front of new friends. "In addition to eating a lot, I have a wild and crazy personality and I don't pretend to be something I am not. If you like the real me then go ahead, otherwise there is no need to develop anything." Suen Huen revealed that her past boyfriends all liked that they were able to eat with her without a care. Speaking of her movie BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI) achieving great results in Hong Kong and Malaysia, Suen Huen revealed that on the 23rd of this month, she will go to Malaysia with Goo Jai, Raymond Lam Fung and others to thank the audience. She once asked Goo Jai when would there be time off, he replied, "Don't even think about getting time off." and she agreed. Regarding the audience's expectation of the extended version, she said that she knew that many family scenes have been shot and believed that they would be included. Yet she was in favor of editing to be tight rather than loose, and the audience's perception should be the most important. Suen Huen was also looking forward to making a sequel, as long as Goo Jai called for participation she would definitely participate. She also revealed that Goo Jai pointed out that the movie has a third ending that even she has not seen, but emphasized that the most important thing is that the audience will have a good time. She said excitedly that if the movie would be screened globally, she can tour around the world to thank the audiences and accumulate miles. She said with a smile, "I hope BACK TO THE PAST will give me a diamond (membership)." * (2026/01/19) The 70-year-old Chow Yun Fat led more than 20 people yesterday, including 76-year-old Nina Paw Hee Ching, 74-year-old Kent Cheng Juk Si, 79-year-old Lau Kong, Edwin Siu Ching Nam and his wife Priscilla Wong Chui Yu, etc. to participate in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2026. Last year running a half marathon, he switched to a 10km race to start with his running friends. The group rushed to the finish line and received cheers from the audience. Chow Yun Fat praised a group of "students" for being in good condition, and said with a smile that he and his "old" runners were several hundred years old together. He hoped to encourage the elderly to exercise more. Paw Hee Ching said that all thanks to the good master Chow Yun Fat to lead them to health, and revealed that Cheng Juk Si jumped the most grades, invited to challenge 10 kilometers after joining the "Running Club" for 9 months. With silver hair and sunglasses, when Chow Yun Fat crossed the finish line everyone cheered. He took about two hours to complete the 10km, jokingly saying that compared to last year's half-marathon in more than two hours the result was good. He revealed that this time more than 20 people ran together, which was the most so far. "I switched from half marathon to running 10km to start the run with friends, it was the biggest group ever". Was it a gathering of three generations? He joked that Wong Chui Yu was the most "green", then pointed to Paw Hee Ching. He revealed that she has completed 17 kilometers in Japan earlier. Paw Hee Ching publicly thanked Chow Yun Fat, "He 'saved' us with running and led the step towards health. Cheng Juk Si has jumped the most grades. He has only joined the 'Running Club' for 9 months, and Fat Gor (Chow Yun Fat) has already invited him to challenge 10 kilometers." Cheng Juk Si said: "From 0 to 10, all thanks to Fat Gor the good master. I don't feel that I don't have much fitter, after the run I feel very rough, but it is so enjoyable." Lau Kong revealed that he ran into Chow Yun Fat once on Tai Mo Shan and joined the running club; Chow Yun Fat laughed and said that Lau Kong wanted to withdraw from the club after running this time. Together they were several hundreds years old, he hoped to encourage the elderly to exercise more and maintain physical and mental health. Zhou laughed and said that the membership fee is 20,000 yuan per month Chow Yun Fat once said that he wanted to run to the age of 80, but now he hoped to run to the age of 120. He said humorously, "The best would be admitting more and more students, I will charge a membership fee of 20,000 per person per month. There are more than 20 on this day, so the number adds more. I can't be without pocket money." Why not drag Lo Hoi Pang (Brother Pang) to run together? He joked, "I can't accept poor people like Brother Pang, they can't afford it. He has made so much money but won't give me any. The richest (future) is Wong Chui Yu, who has two spots with her husband. Brother Kent (Cheng Juk Si) is the richest, his family of five runs together." He greeted countless people along the race with a smile and joked that his arms were tired from waving. He was happy to take this opportunity to meet everyone every year, which was very rare. The Hong Kong film industry is in the cold winter period, and Paw Hee Ching believed that spring would come after winter. Would Chow Yun Fat "out of the mountain" to save the film industry? Chow Yun Fat said that relying on him alone could not save much. Has he been charging too much? He said, "If no one asked me to make movies, how do you know that I charge too much? Now I have changed my career to teach running." Regarding the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards candidate list that left off 4 eligible films without specifying the reason, Chow Yun Fat said, "I haven't seen it, I will answer you after seeing it." Xiao Zhengnan and Huang Cui are like a line of romance Siu Ching Nam participated in the marathon for the first time, and felt very romantic when crossing the finish line with his wife Priscilla Wong Chui Yu. Wong Chui Yu laughed at herself as an old and weak soldier. She was too weak when she was a child, so she had a doctor's certificate to exempt her from physical education class. Since running with Chow Yun Fat for 4 and a half years, her health has improved significantly and she happily completed 10 kilometers. Would she consider having another child since her health has improved? Wong Chui Yu said that she was too old and would not consider it. The husband and wife were happy to run with their seniors. Wong Chui Yu said that Lau Kong would be almost 80 years old this year, and he ran faster yesterday. Many people along the road greeted him, as if wishing Lau Kong a happy 80th birthday. The marathon has always been popular with artists and yesterday many familiar faces were seen at the race. They included Calvin Choy Yat Chi, Catherine Chau Ka Yee, Raymond Wong Ho Yin, Inez Leong Lok In, Jackie Li Jinkai, James Ng Yip Kwan and others. Terence Lam Ka Him immediately challenged the half marathon for his first race and finished around 2 hours and 13 minutes, a result he was pleased with. He revealed that last year for his Hong Kong Coliseum concerts, he ran to train his breathing with a coach and realized he could run pretty well. So he kept training and he boasted that he had a little potential. "This time friends and clients invited me. I have always liked to jump grades for challenges, and completed something 'outrageous' that I really wanted to do. I don't want to switch to the athletic type yet, my legs still lack muscles and strength. I am interested in keep running, I would worry about whether I would challenge the full marathon later." Would he run with his friend Tyson Yoshi? "I don't know how he is with long distance running. Explosive type like him should be better with short distance." When he reached the finish line, because he realized that his shorts were loose he turned around quickly and tied the ropes again. He then picked up a medal for photos, but it was a 10K medal. MIRROR member Alton Wong Chi Tak finished the 10K around 49 minutes. He estimated that he would finish within 50 minutes so the result was decent. He revealed that before the race he was so anxious he could not sleep. Originally several MIRROR brothers would run with him, but they could not make the time. In the end only he persisted. His group mate Keung To's contract was rumored to have come to term and would sign with another record company after. He said, "He was rumored to be switching clubs? I wouldn't switch jobs to running, as I still enjoy this job very well. I would respond like AK (Kong Yip Sun), I don't have an understanding on the matter. Sometimes, it would be good for some things to have discussion value." Nicholas Yuen Ho Chung and Roxanne Ho Pui Ga last year competed as a rumored couple, this year they have been said to have broken up but they still ran the 10K together. Also present was Maggie Wong Mei Ki. Yuen Ho Chung after the race waited for Ho Pui Ga to return to the finish line for photos. This was the third year Ho Pui Ga ran the race. Last year she was running sick, and this year she ran again. After the race she was very excited to get photos with Chow Yun Fat and Lam Ka Him. Yuen Ho Chung said that two nights ago he watched the English Premier League soccer match and did not sleep until 11 PM, but he felt that he was in decent condition. He also pointed out that running could burn up energy, so the past few days he deliberately ate more. Ho Pui Ga said that she did not have breakfast and hoped to run on an empty stomach to burn fat. Another young TVB artist Jessica Liu Wai Yee completed her first half marathon in 2 hours 11 minutes. Although she has been exercising, she admitted that the run was rough. "I really have done my best, when I crossed the finish line I almost threw up. Normally when I drove the Western tunnel I didn't realize that it was so long and steep! After crossing the finishing line I sat on the street and didn't want to move......luckily my back didn't act up today, it no longer hurt a lot!" Honey Ho Wing Cheuk also ran the half and revealed that in March she would run the Shizuoka marathon in Japan, so yesterday "safety was the most important" in order to avoid affecting the performances in the races later. Shiga Lin and Carlos Chan Ka Lok ran the 10K and crossed together. She also wiped the sweats off her husband. Chan Ka Lok was absent due to illness last year. This year they ran as a couple as they wished. They revealed that he got sick a week ago and relied on medication to keep it under control. Later his wife got sick but still insisted on running. They looked forward to challenging the half marathon next year. * (2026/01/19) "Fire Cloud Evil God" Liang Xiaolong passed away, Jackie Chan and Stephen Chow posted old photos to mourn Hong Kong Wen Wei Po Entertainment 2026-01-19 Hong Kong Wenwei News (Reporter Yu Yan) Famous Hong Kong kung fu actor who played the villain in Stephen Chow Sing Chi's movie "KUNG FU HUSTLE" (GONG FU), Bruce Leung Siu Lung died of illness on January 14th at the age of 77. According to the news his family is currently handling the funeral in a low-key manner, and the funeral ceremony is tentatively scheduled to be held in Longgang, Shenzhen on January 26th. The day before Leung Siu Lung's death (13th), some people still shared photos of dinner with him. In the photo he and his friends were having hot pot in Luohu, Shenzhen, and he seemed to be in good spirit. No one would have expected that he passed away the next day. Martial arts superstar Jackie Chan posted a photo with Leung Siu Lung on Weibo with a condolence, "Just returned to Beijing, I was shocked to hear the news of Mr. Leung Siu Lung's death. I neither dare nor was willing to believe it for a while......in my memory, he was always that kung fu expert who excelled in many traditional martial arts and able to fight with his own style in each one. He applied what he had learned all his life to film and television works, and was a very excellent action director. At the same time as an actor, he shaped so many classic characters. The audience deeply loves him and colleagues like us could not admire him more. Brother Leung, it's snowing in Beijing. It's very cloudy, I miss you..." Once collaborated with Leung Siu Lung on "KUNG FU HUSTLE", Stephen Chow Sing Chi posted old photos on IG stories in mourning with the caption "Forever Missed Mr. Leung Siu Lung". Good friend Tin Kai Man missed him and pointed out that earlier he met up with Leung Siu Lung, whose health has always been very good. Tin Kai Man revealed to the media that Leung Siu Lung passed away due to heart failure. He remembered when he first got into he business he had a great relationship with Leung Siu Lung and lamented that "it would always remain in my heart." He said that the most important inheritance Leung Siu Lung left to Chinese film was real kung fu, with his skills he won the adoration of the audience, displayed his demand for himself and spirit of pursuing perfect and worthy of learning from. Tin Kai Man said that he has not yet contacted Leung Siu Leung's family, but knew that his family has said that they wanted to keep the funeral low key. Hence they would be more suitable to discuss it. Leung Siu Lung's social platform was still updated daily after his passing, his account has probably been handed over to his team to continue to be operated. After the news of his death, his account also posted last night. The post was dated January 14th, suspected to the farewell letter and final words that Leung Siu Lung left for his fans. "Please forgive me for not saying goodbye, just pretend that I have gone to a very far away place to make movies. Originally I wanted to keep it a secret, so the closed door disciples have been posting videos as usual. I like to have a little sense of mystery. Please properly live on for me. Love is always here, remember that I love you." Formerly known as Leung Choi Sun, Leung Siu Lung has practiced martial arts such as Wing Chun and karate since childhood, and became a stuntman at the age of 15. In 1973 he starred in the movie LITTLE SUPERMAN (SUN LUNG WOOT FU). In the 70s of the last century, along with Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Ti Lung, he was known as the "Four Little Dragons" in the Hong Kong entertainment industry. In 1976 he played Huo Yuanjia's apprentice and national hero "Chen Zhen" in the Hong Kong TV series LEGENDARY FORK and THE FIST, which were popular in the mainland at the time. He also became one of the most prestigious martial arts stars in Hong Kong in the early 80s of the last century. After that, Leung Siu Lung changed careers until his comeback in 2004, playing the villain role in the movie "KUNG FU HUSTLE". His popularity rose again and he is still talked about by fans now. However Leung Siu Lung and Chow Sing Chi's collaboration was less than pleasant, as he expressed his displeasure multiple times in past interviews. He insisted against calling him Sing Yeh. "Calling him Sing Yeh would be insulting myself, I would only call him Director." He despised the talk that "Chow Sing Chi made him 'famous'", and was upset at his KUNG FU HUSTLE salary. He said that it was not enough to match his business revenue in a month and even clearly rejected working with Chow Sing Chi again. Aside from "not being paid fully after the job was done", Chow Sing Chi also made movies "without a script". The cast had to listen to his direction on the set, which was enormously stressful. Leung Siu Lung had two marriages in his life. His first wife was singer Irene Ryder (Lai Oi Lin). They had had a daughter Anne but were divorced in the early 1980s. Lai Oi Ling passed away in 2024. In 1995 he remarried and had a pair of children with his second wife with Song Xiang, who was 20 years his junior. * (2026/01/18) The Hong Kong Film Awards continued to heat up! Following the fact that four Hong Kong films that were allegedly eligible were not included in the first round of voting, this year's Hong Kong Film Awards recently has been said to quietly canceled the "Best Asian Chinese-language Film" award without any announcement. The Hong Kong Film Awards established the "Best Asian Film" award in 2002, and then changed its name until 2020 when the award was renamed "Best Asian Chinese Language Film". Regarding the cancellation of the "Best Asian Chinese Language Film" at this year's Hong Kong Films Awards, the HKFA only replied with "no comment". Yet some pointed out that the Hong Kong Film Awards have encountered many difficulties in handling the awards in the past, collecting the film and obtaining detailed information from the filmmakers have been difficult, which was also one of the reasons for the decision to cancel. As for the various gossips about the Hong Kong Film Awards, the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers spokesperson Tin Kai Man responded that he was still observing the development of the incident. He admitted that he did not want similar uncertainties to happen again, otherwise it would only deepen the doubts of the outside world. * (2026/01/16) The Dayo Wong Tze Wah and Sammi Cheng Sau Man starred in A GUILTY CONSCIENCE (DUK SIT DAI JONG)'s Jack Ng Wai Lun directed Lunar New Year film NIGHT KING (YEH WONG). Wong Tze Wah watched what he ate and trained his muscles to show off his figure to battle Cheng Sau Man in bed. NIGHT KING's backdrop is a night club. Wong Tze Wah said that in the film he used three lifetimes worth of foul language and smoked ten lifetimes worth of cigarette. He joked that he sacrificed his lungs for the film. In addition he also praised Alan Yeung Wai Lun by name and said that he would become another Hong Kong comedic actor with this film. Wong Tze Wah and Cheng Sau Man in NIGHT KING played night club manager Brother Foon and CEO Sister V, a complicated pair of partners. They were both former lovers and rivals. They even had bed scenes. Wong Tze Wah for the bed scene worked out everyday. Director Ng Wai Lun said, "After shooting this scene, the first thing Tze Wah said to me, 'Do you know how long I have been on a diet for this scene? You left it until the end to shoot.' This time truly has been rough for Tze Wah." Wong Tze Wah said that working with Cheng Sau Man officially has been very smooth. "As soon as production began we have already begun to have natural chemistry. This type of chemistry is a little like rivals and a little like lovers. This emotion naturally comes, which I thought was pretty interesting." Aside from Cheng Sau Man, Wong Tze Wah alos had the same unspeakable chemistry with A GUILTY CONSCIENCE staff Renci Yeung Sze Wing, Louise Wong Dan Nei and Fish Liew Chi Yu. With the new additions Mandy Tam Man Huen, Hazel Lam Hei Tung and Sumling Li, he said that girls were numerous and pretty in this film, wherever he looked on the set were pretty girls. "My eyes didn't know where to look......sometimes it was a little awkward, because everyone were dressed very sexily. This line-up, I believe in the past 20 years of Hong Kong films, no one has seen before. Everyone has been very focused, living up to their part as dance escorts. If you ask me, this time developed from the few girls in A GUILTY CONSCIENCE to a scene with this many people, if I have to give a grade I would give 10,000 points." Wong Tze Wah praised by name Yeung Wai Lun (Ah Lun) as his subordinate Earth. "I am really worried for Earth. After performing in NIGHT KING, he could no longer play other roles. Because he has already become another Hong Kong comedic actor, every scene that has Ah Lun is very funny. When everyone comes, why not bring some expectations. I believe you won't be disappointed." Wong Tze Wah revealed that in making NIGHT KING he spoke three lifetimes worth of foul language and smoked ten lifetimes of cigarettes. "I have to stress to everyone not to learn from us when seeing us smoke, I really sacrificed my lungs for this movie! Anyway, in the night club world, no matter men or women, everyone uses foul language, smoke. In order to create a realistic night club world, I have to make the sacrifice once for NIGHT KING." Ng Wai Lun revealed that he has put a lot of thought into Brother Foon and Sister V's hotel "catch up" scene. "Adult relationships are very complicated, I like this complicated feeling very much. I have always wanted to write a relationship that travels between deep love, hatred, concern, disdain, help, harm, loyalty and betrayal, this time it is placed on Brother Foon and Sister V. The focus of their hotel room scene is on their complicated feeling. Their relationship scene brews from the gambling table, starting with them testing each other, to when they team up to win big, they get so excited that they end up in bed, argue, turn on each other, then to being attentive and finally go their separate ways, with a little regret and upset. Putting so many strong emotions into one scene, watching the sparks from Tze Wah and Sammi, it is very entertaining and a lot of fun." He praised Wong Tze Wah and Cheng Sau Man were both very professional actors, from their first meeting to discuss the script to the official shoot, they have never said to him any restriction or anything they did not want to do. A wild shoot for them was basic, performing a feast for the eyes for everyone was the height that Wong Tze Wah and Cheng Sau Man were after. * (2026/01/15) The 44th Hong Kong Film Awards two days ago announced the 2025 Hong Kong film releases and listed the eligibility qualification. "Any Hong Kong film...with a first commercial theatrical release in Hong Kong between 1 January to 31 December 2025 for at least 5 shows in conventional film screening theatres with 50 seats or above in 7 consecutive days, will be automatically considered as participating in the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards." Every year the Hong Kong Film Awards would release a list of films that are eligible to participate in the Hong Kong Film Awards for "Hong Kong Film Awards voters" and the "First Round Professional Jury" to vote for the nominations in each category. This year's list was released the day before yesterday and immediately a hot debate broke out on the Internet, because the four films that were released last year and were said to be eligible, the Anthony Wong Chau Sun starred VALLEY OF THE SHAODW OF DEATH (BUT SEH JI JUI) and FITCH AND MIDLAND (GUM TIN YING GOI HUNG GO HING), Louis Koo Tin Lok and Neo Yau Hawk Sau's VITAL SIGNS (SHOOK YUEN TOH JUNG), the Fan Bingbing Golden Horse Best Actress award winning MOTHER BHUMI have "mysteriously disappeared", which has caused great controversy in the industry! Reportedly during the internal meeting of the Hong Kong Film Awards in October last year, the reference list of released films circulated still included VALLEY and "VITAL. Yet now they have been withdrawn. Some said that even the internet meeting has made no mention of removing the related films. As the matter grew curious, some online speculated that the move was politically related. Some industry insiders pointed out that the Hong Kong Film Awards ceremony mainly relies on government funds for operation and has faced a lot of pressure in recent years. Regarding the "mysterious disappearance" of his two films, Wong Chau Sun has expressed to the media, "It's none of my business! Do whatever you like! I'm an artist, not an entertainer. Perhaps if you want to see my films in the future, you will have to go abroad to see it." P1X3L member George Au Ching Ho made his film debut in VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH and was considered a likely nominee for Hong Kong Film Awards Best New Performer. He said earlier in an interview that he felt certain about a nomination. Now the film has lost its eligibility, Au Chun Ho two nights ago posted a photo of the Arnold Schwarzenegger starred THE TERMINATOR with the classic line "I'll be back." Some online said that the post expressed his mood and encouraged himself to keep trying. The Hong Kong Film Awards vice president Manfred Wong (Man Jun) on the 25th last year on his personal YouTube channel "Man's Talk" with the subject "50 Hong Kong films how many have you see at the theater? The most memorable and not even heard off movies review in one breath!". He said, "In the episode let's review the 2025 Hong Kong film release, because in a few days the Hong Kong Film Awards booklet lists would confirm them. I have been doing my homework, so let's talk about how many films were released from January to December 31st 2025." Man Jun from January counted to December. When he got to VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH, he strongly praised lead actor Wong Chau Sun. "Stepping into June, one had great word of mouth. It was called VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH. I believe Wong Chau Sun would be a Best Actor nominee favorite, whether he would win or not let's talk about that later." He said that the May release, the Chuek Wan Chi directed, Koo Tin Lok, Yau Hawk Sau, Angela Yuen Lai Lam starred VITAL SIGNS was above quality and worth of appreciation. Yesterday his YouTube channel search index was missing that episode, but some have already made a copy and it could be found online with the subject. Regarding the disqualification of the four movies, although a large number of people online have asked the Hong Kong Film Awards to respond, and some have blasted the Hong Kong Film Awards for lacking credibility, the Hong Kong Film Awards have yet to respond. Hong Kong Film Awards Association vice president Man Jun already declined to be interviewed as soon as he picked up the photo. "I won't pick up the phone again, thank you." After that, he hung up in a hurry. Disappeared from the mainland film industry in recent years, Fan Bingbing last year won the Taiwan Golden Horse Award Best Actress with the Malaysian director Chong Keat Aun's film MOTHER BHUMI. The film specifically launched more than 5 preview screenings in Hong Kong last year, hoping for the Hong Kong Film Awards eligibility. Unfortunately now it has come up empty, the biggest beneficiary obviously would be the fellow Best Actress favorite, SHE'S GOT NO NAME's Zhang Ziyi. With one less strong rival, the film also made multiple stars eligible, Yang Mi and Zhao Liying for Supporting Actress, Jackson Yee, Li Xian for Supporting Actor. In the battle for the actress, in addition to Zhang Ziyi, PEG O MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG)'s Fala Chen and MY FIRST OF MAY (MO MING JI)'s Natalie Hsu (Hui Yan Yi) are both online favorites to be nominated. In addition to SHE'S, the movie SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT (FUNG LUM FOR SHAN) also made 4 leads Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo), Sean Lau Ching Wan, Tony Leung Ka Fai, and Louis Koo Tin Lok eligible for Best Actor, among them Gum Sing Mo was regarded as the favorite. Leung Ka Fai has also attracted the online attention with THE SAHODW'S EDGE (BO FUNG JUI YING), along with GOLDEN BOY (GUM TUNG)'s Louis Cheung Kai Chung, BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI)'s Raymond Lam Fung and PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG)'s Nick Cheung Ka Fai were regarded online as the choices for the Best Actor nominations. Actress Shu Qi directed the film "GIRL" for the first time and was successfully included in the first round of voting this year, which made many wonder about the definition of "Hong Kong film". Actually the definition of "Hong Kong film" at the Hong Kong Film Awards has been relatively loose, as the movie would only have to meet two of the three conditions: "the director is a Hong Kong resident with a Hong Kong permanent resident identity card", "the production company is a legally registered company in Hong Kong" and "at least six work category creators must be Hong Kong residents with permanent resident identity cards". Therefore with a Hong Kong identity card, Shu Qi should meet the conditions in paragraphs 1 and 3 to successfully qualify. Shu Qi last year with GIRL won the Best Director Award at the Busan International Film Festival. The industry has predicted that she has a good chance of being nominated for "Best Director" and "New Director". This year's competition for "Best Director" would be quite fierce, as big name directors like Tsui Hark, Andrew Lau Wai Keung and Peter Chan Ho Sun would be eligible. The director of RIGOR MORTIS (GEUNG SI), Juno Mak Chun Lung would be eligible for the "New Director" with SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT (FUNG LUM FOR SHAN) this year, which also caused confusion online. However according to the provisions of the Hong Kong Film Awards, the director's first and second works would be eligible for the award, so Mak Junlong would also qualify. This year's Hong Kong Film Awards are already at the starting line, and the mainland actor Sean Xiao starred 2025 Spring Festival movie "THE LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROS: THE GALLANTS" has been found to be eligible. If nominated he would be the youngest Best Actor nominee this year. Tsui Hark directed the film that has grossed 6.78 billion yuan (about HK$7.58 million), the highest box office of martial arts films in Chinese film history. Reportedly when Sean Xiao took the role, he joined the team a few months in advance for martial arts, horseback riding, archery and Mongolian language training. Fortunately the performance was finally recognized by the audience and the media. The Wong Yau Nam starred movie CIAO UFO (JOI GEIN UFO) has been completed for more than 7 years. Recently it finally "saw the light of day", arranging preview screenings for the Hong Kong Film Awards eligibility. The film company even made many actors eligible for awards, for Best Supporting Actor alone 8 people's names including Ng Siu Hin, Michael Ning (Bak Ji), Alex To Tak Wai and Tommy Chu Pak Hong appeared! It was worth noting that lead actor Yau Nam gave up the Best Actor eligibility to compete for Supporting Actor; while Lo Hoi Pang with his cameo appearance performed brilliantly, but did not appear in the eligibility list and left many online feeling bad for him. The film producer Amy Chin Siu Wai responded generously: "In Yau Nam's case, he is Hong Kong Awards eligible for supporting actor or leading actor, just like PAPA's (Jo Koo) Kok Cho Lam was eligible and won the Best Supporting Actor last year . After discussions we feel Yau Nam would have better chances in the supporting actor category. Speaking of Lo Hoi Pang, Chin Siu Wai said frankly, "He made a cameo for two days. Usually the film company wouldn't make a big fuss about cameos, but later someone reminded the team. By the time we wanted to add Brother Pang's name, the Hong Kong Film Awards deadline has passed and the eligibility booklet has been printed. I hereby apologize to Brother Pang and say sorry." The 35-year-old Fish Liew Chi Yu has been developing in Hong Kong for many years and has always been recognized by the outside world for her good acting skills. In 2022 she won the Hong Kong Film Award for "Best Supporting Actress" for her performance in the movie ANITA. Recently many of her films including PAVANT FOR AN INFANT, THE REMNANT (NGOK YUN DONG DOH), REMEMBER YESTERDAY (CHUN GAING YUNG YAU) and GIRLFRIENDS (NUI HAI BUT PING FAN) have taken the initiative to "take action" for her and made her eligibility for this year's Hong Kong Film Awards This would even be her first time being eligible for Best Actress. At present the only concern is the clichéd issue of "thinning vote sources". The voter would have too many choices with Liew Chi Yu at the same time, which would hinder this "beach head operation" at any minutes. Among the many films she has starred in, the most noteworthy conceivably would be PAVANT FOR AN INFANT. In the film Liew Chi Yu played an abandoned baby hatch facility worker in Malaysia, and had a lot of emotional interaction with the unmarried and pregnant Hui Yan Yi. The film have appeared at the Tokyo International Film Festival and the 49th Hong Kong International Film Festival and caught a lot of outside attention. * (2026/01/15) The Angela Yuen Lai Lam starred movie VITAL SIGN (SHOOK YUEN TOH JUNG) has not been included in the eligible 2025 films for the 44th Hong Kong Film Award. She went to Mong Kok yesterday with Kayan Ng, Sabrina Cheung Man Sha, Jaime Cheung Tin Wing, Chase Chan Chung Chak, and director Veronica Bassetto (Bak Wai Kei) to attend the music video premiere of the new film theme song GAMER GIRLS (DIN GAIN NUI HAI). Yuen Lai Lam said that she has paid attention to the news and admitted that she had questions. "I understand as much as everyone else, I don't know what the reason is. (What a pity?) I worked hard to make this movie 4 years ago, and my mood was very normal. I don't know why, so I want to know why." She was eligible for the Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Actress with GAMER GIRL, was she confident that she would be nominated? Yuen Lai Lam felt that the award was not the most important, instead she would like the film to perform well at the box office. "The movie market is sluggish, and another theater closed a few days ago. I feel that I am a speck of dust, I don't know what to do. I am considering cosplay to thank the audience and pump up the box office. GAMER GIRLS took 4 years to produce, spending HK$ 5 million for action scenes and computer generated effects. I hope the box office would be rewarded a little, so the director's efforts would not be in vain." She said that the movie she made 4 years ago is about to be released and she was excited. The movie has depicted 5 girls who like e-sports games in pursuit of their dreams. Very passionate, they each have many special costumes. She was the intellectual girl representative, and would leave the sexy representative to Kayan Ng. Kayan joked, "This time is an embodiment of cold sexiness, very different from normally. I don't laugh in the film, I even have to be gloomy." Kayan with the film MY BEST BET (CHEUNG DOH BIT YANG), GAMER GIRLS is eligible for the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress and New Performer. She joked that her first goal was to be nominated. She remained optimistic and had confidence in herself. "After making MY BEST BET I experienced betting for a long time would guarantee victory. I see myself as the film industry 'pillar' of tomorrow." Yuen Lai Lam corrected her that she should be the star of tomorrow. Her former company "Trial and Error" earlier sued a public relations company on her behalf for HK$ 1.3 million for the service rendered plus interest. Kayan Ng said that she has been following up and the situation has been optimistic. "The money would come gradually, I hope to collect it all in the not too distant future." * (2026/01/15) Since the movie BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI)'s release to now, its box office in Hong Kong and Macau has grossed 66 million (Hong Kong dollars, the same below). A celebration banquet was held the night before, with actors Louis Koo Tin Lok (Goo Jai), Raymond Lam Fung, Jessica Hester Hsuan (Suen Huen), Sonija Kwok Sin Nei, Joyce Tang Lai Ming, Kevin Chu Kam Yin, etc. attending and posing a group photo together. Producer Goo Jai made the entrance last, and cheers immediately arose at the scene. When Goo Jai, Suen Huen, Kwok Sin Nei and Chu Kam Yin posed for a group photo as the onscreen family of four, the mothers and son blew kisses. Goo Jai took a few glances, answered to everyone's request and blew kisses in coordination. Goo Jai revealed that when the film would reach 100 million at the box office, the extended version would be released. In addition he pointed out that the family chapter would occupy a certain proportion in the extended version. The movie BACK TO THE PAST is getting more and more popular. Goo Jai said that he was of course happy to have good results. Would his next goal be reaching 100 million at the box office? He smiled and said he would aim high. Some online wished that if the film's box office would exceed 100 million, they wanted to see Goo Jai dance the happy dance from back then. He responded, "Sure! If the Hong Kong box office would collect more than 200 million, then everyone would be happy. Actually earlier I only said that I would sing, for 100 million I will sing "Destiny is the Highest". Now it is like fundraising." As for Goo Jai's new Threads account attracting 200,000 followers in one day, Goo Jai said that he has always had a website and would interact online on major holidays. Now he would spend too much time on Threads, so he would not be addicted. He would only reply when he noticed interesting questions. Earlier he saw a little girl's marriage proposal video to him, he jokingly commented that he would "wait for you". He has also been willing to help people online "ask girls" out to see the movie and help with the box office. "Just tell her I asked! You can also tag her here for me to tell her." Suen Huen also enjoyed using Threads. Did she get Goo Jai hooked on it? Suen Huen said, "If he doesn't want to do something, no one can force him to!" The movie BACK TO THE PAST would release an extended version. Goo Jai revealed that post-production would take three or four weeks, but it would not be released until the box office would reach 100 million. Speaking of an actor salary table that has been circulating online and claiming that Suen Huen was paid HK$ 1.5 million, Bai Baihe 15 million but Goo Jai had zero compensation, Goo Jai responded, "The company's business secrets cannot be revealed." When asked if he had zero pay, Goo Jai insisted that it was a trade secret. In addition some people have secretly filmed in theaters and shared the movie in segments online, Goo Jai admitted that he has also received reports from friends and fans. He hoped that everyone would respect intellectual property rights. "Making a movie is already very difficult, everyone really needs to help. People who put it online actually have no benefit, but it is very harmful to the movie." Speaking of how very difficult making BACK TO THE PAST was for him, Goo Jai bluntly said that every production is hard, and every actor has contributed. He has only done what he should. "The hardship doesn't matter, the best reward would be a good box office, and the audience likes it. I want to add that a movie won't drive the prosperity of the film industry, but it has improved the atmosphere of the entire circle. I hope that my peers will work hard, and everyone will also help. Even on the streaming platform you should pay to watch, watching without spending money is too outrageous!" Suen Huen was also looking forward to launching an extended version, especially when she has shot a lot of "family scenes" that she would want the audience to see. Goo Jai has promised that the family chapter would carry a certain weight in the extended version. In addition the scene of "General Tao" Jimmy Au Sui Wai everyone has asked for would be also considered. Kwok Sin Nei and Tang Lai Ming (Ah Tung) was very surprised at the good box office results. Kwok Sin Nei said that she has never thought about how much money the movie would make; as long as she was able to try her best to make a good movie, she would be happy. Of course she also hoped that the longer the run went on the more likely the movie would be able to collect more than 100 million. Tang Lai Ming pointed out that her friends have already asked her about the opening date from time to time before the release and were full of expectations. After the release many friends have already seen it three or four times, for which she has been very grateful. If the box office would exceed 100 million, how would they give back to the audience? Tang Lai Ming smiled and pointed out that whatever the audience would want to see, she would try her best to please everyone. When the reporter proposes for to sing to repay everyone since she entered the industry as a singer, Ah Tung laughed and said that she just accidentally entered the industry. Meanwhile Kwok Sin Nei said that she would want to hear her singing, so Ah Tung suggested for them to sing together. Kwok Sin Nei immediately shook her head and hands and said that she have never been able to remember the lyrics. Some suggested that she could dance, she smiled and said that she would worry about that then. The two knew that the boss Koo Tin Lok was editing the extended version; but because the story of each character was also very rich, cutting some out must be difficult choices. In particular During the production they had many funny scenes, which they hoped would be exposed in the extended version. Regarding the BACK TO THE PAST actor salary chart that has been circulating on the Internet, Kwok Sin Nei and Ah Tung both said that their salary figures on the list were wrong. Boss Koo has been so generous that everyone really have underestimated Boss Koo's offers. The salary was a happy and satisfactory amount was even higher than the rumors. Tang Lai Ming praised Koo Tin Lok's credibility. "I have never been paid in full so fast for a movie, paid as soon as the shoot was done. Before I even left the set, the money was already in the bank account." As for Koo Tin Lok's zero pay, both said that they had no idea and thought that it was possible. Kwok Sin Nei said, "He personally hopes to take care of everyone first." Playing "Lady Nga" in the drama version A STEP INTO THE PAST, Shirley Yim (Suet Lei) and Edward Chui Woei Dong who played the son of the villain Dan in the movie version, appeared at the celebration banquet. Suet Lei and her onscreen son Raymond Lam Fung posed for photos together. Lam Fung was happy to see that the movie had good results, and believed that the actors were just as happy. Suet Lei said that she was happy even though she was not a part of the movie version. Suet Lei kissed Goo Jai at an earlier audience appreciation event. Would she kiss again that night? Suet Lei smiled and said, "It was already last year, and I only gave a kiss because I haven't seen him in a long time. It's just for fun. I wouldn't kiss him again, since I am afraid f being mistaken for a maniac." She smiled and asked if she had to kiss Lam Fung too? Lam Fung immediately clasped his hands, smiled and said, "She indeed is Lady Nga. I appreciate it but no, thank you, mother!" Bai Baihe was said to resemble Suet Lei, who did not disagree. Lam Fung and Chui Woei Dong both said that when the two's photos were compared, they looked a little like each other at first glance. Chui Woei Dong pointed out that he invited his mother to the premiere, and he had to ask for a long time to before she agreed. He said with a smile, "Because my mother is old, I can't walk too fast, I have to watch my body." Suet Lei denied being old, pointing out that she would only reach her 61st birthday in two days (16th). She even constantly performed in the mainland, only lately she got bigger and had to actively lose weight. She revealed that she has undergone angioplasty surgery in April last year. During her recuperation she ate four meals a day and became a big fat woman. Chui Woei Dong immediately advised her to learn from Lam Fung and exercise more. Suet Lei also asked reporters about Lam Fung. Lam Fung said that he has recently taken a new film, and still had a few stops to perform on the tour. Thus he has continued his physical fitness training. He has also met with TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: THE FINAL CHAPTER (GAU LUNG SING JAI 2) director Soi Cheang Pou Soi and expected that the film would start filming in mid-March, so he would start working on two movies at the same time. Regarding the BACK TO THE PAST actors salary chart that has been circulating on the Internet and claimed that Lam Fung was paid 2 million, Lam Fung replied, "Would you believe it? If it's an official then I would, but the most important to make a good movie first." After singer Dior Cheng Yi Kin's December concert in Japan was canceled due to "forces beyond control", Lam Fung's GO WITH THE FLOW concert series that was scheduled from January 31st to February 1st at the Tokyo Garden Theater was also postponed due to "considerations of numerous factors" but has not announced new dates. In addition to an apology to the affected viewers, the organizers would also announce the refund date and methods at a later time. Chui Woei Dong and Eileen Yiu Chi Ling have been rumored to be dating. Suet Lei smiled and said that she has never seen Yiu Chi Ling, so she asked her son to show her the photos as she believd that it would be the same as a real person. Lam Fung just laughed when he heard the answer, saying that he was very happy for Chui Woei Dong. Chui Woei Dong smiled awkwardly and said, "I have to learn from Mama and say that was last year, so let's ask about this year!" Suet Lei said that she actually had no desire to know, and felt that her son's current job was important, and his girlfriend was also a companion. Chui Woei Dong immediately interrupted his mother and continued, "Mommy, don't be Everyone please don't ask!" With the movie's box office success the opportunity to start filming a sequel just improved, Suet Lei admitted but it would depend on Boss Koo Tin Lok would be interested in asking her. However she would like to make the TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS sequel the most, hoping that she would be able to make a fight scene as she thought that she was still able to perform action scenes. When Suen Huen heard that she jokingly offered to play "Tornado"'s sister "Lung So Tong" (dragon's beard candy). Goo Jai admitted that he would have to discuss numerous possibilities with the director first, stating that they would havce to keep the actresses' safety in mind and fight scenes would be very difficult to make. Opening October 5 2025 at the Vancouver International Film Festival Opening at October 23rd at the 22nd Hong Kong Asian Film Festival (10.22-11.09) Opening January 15 2026 [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] In the often overlooked, aging neighborhoods of Scarborough, Ontario, four Hong Kong immigrants who arrived in the 1990s quietly unravel in middle age. Once a rising star in Hong Kong, a devoted carer for her elderly mother, a single mother struggling to make ends meet, and a widower yearning for connection – they each clutch fading fragments of dignity, community, and hope in a place as worn and forgotten as they are. The film portrays these fragile souls reaching out for connection – and discovering how far loneliness can stretch. Growing up within this immigrant community, the director witnessed firsthand the resilience of immigrants, creating a poignant meditation on displacement, aging, and the delicate threads that bind us all. Vancouver International Film Festival [ VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2025 ] Timothy Yeung's film is a story of big losses, small triumphs, and moments of grace amid the grind of capitalism — in other words, life itself. Four Hong Kong immigrants are living lives of desperation in Scarborough, Ontario: Dan was a pop singer on the rise before his move to Canada, now he's barely scraping by; Eva is a lonely woman whose commitment to her aging mother has held her back in life; Fan is a part-time sex worker struggling to break into real estate; Tony is an aging widower whose factory job is at risk. Through these characters, Yeung explores diasporic alienation, economic hardship, and social isolation. His film is rich in cultural specificity, but that never obstructs his wider view. Building outwards from private hopes and personal pain, he creates a rich social document that cradles within it four precious human portraits. Tam, Yeung, Lee, and Wong are superb — their performances ring with commitment and authenticity. REVISIT Can : Hung Won Gok d. CRUEL STORY OF YOUTH (19TH FRESH WAVE) Length : 100 mins. The director, who has always been interested in urban issues, has continued to mix historical and fantastical elements like he has done with Interview with Lo-Ting: An Oral History Project (2022). A modern love story with celestial inspiration, the film gently caresses the remnants of our city and the melancholy of lonely souls. In The Last Ranger, Litha meets her friend Khuselwa, a female ranger from the only remaining game reserve. The two plan to go see the nearby rhinos, but they suddenly encounter three poachers who are illegally hunting rhinos for their horns. Litha watches Khuselwa engage in gunfire but eventually discovers the cruel truth. Opening December 5 2025 Site : https://www.freshwave.hk/ fb: https://www.facebook.com/freshwavehk Trailer : https://youtu.be/vYTx7uaUTfQ [ 19TH FRESH WAVE INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL ] This film, which broke Vietnam’s all-time box office record in 2024, was released in Taiwan under the translated title 'Love Again'; 'Vietnam Loves' was the translated title for the 'Asian Cinerama' project in Hong Kong, while the original title, 'Mai', refers to the name of the female protagonist. None of these offer a complete picture for the audience. Even more so, no synopsis can provide an accurate description. Try this: Mai, a massage girl past her prime, moves to the city to work. She meets Duong, a bar pianist seven years her junior, who pursues her recklessly. When she finally overcomes her inner demons and accepts his love, she discovers he actually comes from a wealthy family. However, Duong's mother, learning of Mai's dishonorable past, rejects her and tries to separate the lovers...Now doesn't this all sound quite familiar, resembling the Cantonese social dramas and ethical tragedies of CHOR Yuen, Filmmaker in Focus of last year? The truth is, Tr?n Thành has adopted a (nearly) hybrid style, combining Douglas SIRK’s melodramatic storytelling, R.W. FASSBINDER's subversive narration, and Pedro ALMODÓVAR's colourful imagery and complex and precise mise-en-scène. Through this constantly changing scenery, sometimes playful and witty, sometimes romantic, at times melancholic, others passionate, the lively portrayal of humankind (the apartment where all sorts inhabit) as in The House of 72 Tenants (1973), Mai's legendary life as heartbreaking as Darling Caroline (1951), the result is truly magnificent. Tr?n Thành’s two other works also rank 4th and 5th in Vietnam's highest-grossing films of all time. In addition to screenwriting and directing, he is also a renowned actor (especially in comedy), TV host and voice actor, at merely 38 years old. DHURANDHAR d. Bodies hang precariously from the windows in a tangle of flesh and blood that soon leaves one man dead, while the other coolly walks away, shrugging off just another day in the life of a trained assassin. Known only as No. 4, this bleach-blond, stone-faced killer soon finds himself in Japan, where a seemingly straightforward assignment quickly spirals into a breathless game of cat-and-mouse with the Yakuza's deadliest foot soldiers. No. 4's client, a young woman with a personal vendetta against the city’s most notorious crime syndicate, ropes him into becoming her unwitting accomplice in a game of revenge that leaves them both out of their depth with a bounty on their heads. As their relationship evolves from professional to personal, they are left with no choice but to fight side by side if they are to survive the next 72 desperate hours. Wearing his influences proudly on his sleeve, first-time director NJO steers a classic gun-toting tale of heroic bloodshed into a head-on collision with a sleek, katana-wielding crime story of honour, betrayal, camaraderie, and vengeance. Drenched in neon and buffed to a shimmering polish, ROAD TO VENDETTA owes an inescapable debt to the works of John Woo, Johnnie To, Kinji Fukasaku, and Takashi Miike, even as it doffs its cap to the Hollywood homages—from KILL BILL to JOHN WICK—that have forged this path ahead of it. The result is a composed and enthralling calling card from an emerging new talent, paired with an agile, unflinching leading man, who together make an unstoppable pair. Large-scale protests by the populace have been brutally suppressed. This mix of documentary, fiction, and visions of the future reveals the current state of desolate depression among the people of Hong Kong. "A desperate attempt to capture the final moments of a sinking island", as maker Chan Tze-woon himself puts it. In four chapters, Chan looks back at previous moments of resistance and revolution on the island: in 1967, 1973, and 1989. He shows how the activists of then are faring now. Some still burn with righteous fire, while others are disillusioned or have been bought off by the system. The past is presented in fictional scenes, with today's activists playing those of yesteryear. As one of the young demonstrators observes of her predecessor: "All the hardships he endured seem to be repeating in our generation." ONE WEEK FRIENDS d. Unfolding in the faded opulence of Tsim Sha Tsui's Mirador Mansion, it charts an unlikely bond between grizzled veteran Tai Bo and rising star Kuku So—he a mysterious rescuer, she a teenager running away from her mother's abusive partner. At first Alice (the Wonderland echoes ring deliberately) rebuffs her grizzled savior's gallantry. But their shared loneliness catalyzes a fraught rapprochement amid the mansion's crimson-lit maze. Chow wields colorful yet noirish atmospherics with a maestro's command, the dank stairwells and flickering fluorescents conjuring palpable peril. As this intricate two-hander hurtles toward its cathartic climax, you'll be gasping—not just from the suspense, but from sensing the new lifeblood pulsing through the story. In the live wire intensity between Chow's protagonists burns the fierce promise of the arthouse's inheritance of Hong Kong's pulp legacy. Injustice has reigned over the quiet town of Shek O in Hong Kong. Chu Po is a young masked vigilante out to help those in need and kick a baddie’s ass. Just as her social-media popularity increases, so do her frequent injuries, as she learns that her beginner's skills may be no match for those of more experienced fighters. Fate draws her to a local church infested with illicit drug-dealing activities. She soon realizes her connection to that church is more personal than expected as there's a link to her family's past. Should she simply stay in the shadows and pray for a miracle, or put her karate chops to good use? An rejuvenated ode to both THE KARATE KID and the action heroines of Hong Kong's Golden Age, the latest from director Ricky Ko after his award-winning TIME (Fantasia 2021) once again nicely combines nostalgia and modernity with a potent mix of martial arts, humour, sweetness, and compelling characters, OUT OF THE SHADOW offers a guaranteed good time, a reminder of why we love HK movies so much in the first place. Starring several rising stars from Hong Kong, including two actors reunited after Fantasia favourite PORT OF CALL (2015), OUT OF THE SHADOW is fresh off several Asian festivals, and makes its first stopover in the West at Fantasia before it hits its home territory this fall. – King-Wei Chu [ OASKA ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL 2024 ] Chu Po is a sprightly teenage girl with a strong sense of justice but her mother, Tao Kuen Ying, would rather they keep a low profile in the fishing town of Tai O. However, people are in need and Po decides to take action after learning a little karate. This is when Tao reveals a secret crime-fighting history of her own. Ricky KO, director of Time (2021, OAFF2022), delivers a playful vigilante film, complete with laughs, fighting, Cantonese humour, and a touch of family drama unfold in the beautiful setting of Tai O. However, when the sawmill faces compulsory eviction by the government for its Northern Metropolis development project, the survival of this successful family-owned business becomes a modern David-versus-Goliath story. In this lost country backwater of mountains and vegetable fields, factories still manufacture soy sauce in century old clay pots; Kenny hand makes concrete spacers that hold up some of the world's longest suspension bridges. Cha Guo shines light on the lives of the villagers, craftsmen, farmers and business owners who make up this local village's close-knit community. The people’s philosophy and signature are their resilience and their dedication. They embody "Made in Hong Kong" over generations. Cha Guo celebrates the heroes of Hong Kong and the fabric of what makes it and its people synonymous with warmth and the ubiquitous "can do" attitude. The title Cha Guo embodies the many narratives that connect older generations to the younger through the sharing of something savory and heart-warming. Cha guo is a homemade Chinese tea cake traditionally shared at family gatherings and celebrations. The Directors, Daphné Mandel and Guy Bertrand, set out not only to document this village life and heritage but also to capture its distinctly Hong Kong spirit. Site : https://iffr.com/en/iffr/2026/films/cyclone [ INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ROTTERDAM ] Named after a figure from martial-arts literature, Cyclone follows a wanderer travelling from mainland China to Hong Kong in search of gender-affirming surgery. As the journey unfolds, desire and identity blur, echoing Philip Yung's portrait of a city continually redefining its sense of belonging. Cyclone is a curious title, alluding to one of modern martial-arts literature and cinema's most tragic heroines: Mei Chaofeng, often translated as Cyclone Mei. Like her literary counterpart, Cyclone is a wanderer, travelling from the People's Republic of China to Hong Kong in search of gender-affirming surgery. Yet the longer the journey takes, the less certain she becomes of her desire. The identity in question and the passage undertaken reach beyond the individual. Yung is also thinking of Hong Kong, a place whose identity is constantly questioned and that keeps searching for a sense of its own belonging. Although internationally known for multilayered crime films such as Where the Wind Blows (2022), Philip Yung has long been drawn to more intimate stories. Cyclone feels like a place where everything he cares about has found a home. The narrative is both sprawling and concentrated, profoundly personal yet resonant with the experience of a people. It moves across temporal, regional and cultural barriers with clarity and grace, all the while maintaining an effortless visual beauty. – Vanja Kaludjercic ATEEZ VR CONCERT LIGHT THE WAY Opening January 30 2026 UNEXPECTED FAMILY Can : Gor Ga Ga d. Momoka also confronts Diamond Dust, the band that she left. Their overcoming of the past inspires the others to do the same, and aim to become pro musicians, but they are unable to adapt to the demands of society and decide to continue as an indie band. Opening October 5 2025 at the Vancouver International Film Festival Opening at October 23rd at the 22nd Hong Kong Asian Film Festival (10.22-11.09) Opening January 15 2026 Trailer : https://youtu.be/W0fubpN8BJA [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] In the often overlooked, aging neighborhoods of Scarborough, Ontario, four Hong Kong immigrants who arrived in the 1990s quietly unravel in middle age. BACK TO THE PAST Rating : IIB Length : 107 mins. After his release, he leads his daughter Galie and a team to steal the Cme machine. Equipped with a face-duplication device, Ken plans to pose as the Qin Emperor and realize his dream of being king as his way of making up for everything he lost. Meanwhile, in the Qin Dynasty, Hong Siu-lung has been living in seclusion in the countryside with his wives Kam Ching and Ting-fong, his son Bowie, and his blood brother. Life looks peaceful on the surface, but the family are closely watched by the Qin Emperor. Ken launches an ambush on the Qin Emperor, but the emperor manages to escape. Meanwhile, Hong knows that as the only person who knows that the Qin Emperor is actually impersonated his disciple, he will be worthless once the Qin unites the warring states. To protect his family, Hong decides to uproot his family. However, before he can leave, the Qin Emperor, comes to Hong for help after escaping Ken's ambush. For the first time in 20 years, the mentor and his disciple are reunited. [ THE FILM CATALOGUE ] Three years ago, Randy Lee, the only son of the richest man in Hong Kong, took part in a time traveling experiment back to the Qin Dynasty, to study the First Emperor's elixir of life. But he was never heard from again. Today, his father Lee Ka-chun uncovered 2 mummies near an unexcavated area of the First Emperor's mausoleum, with one of them holding a smart phone. It is an adaptation of a bestseller by Shuichi Yoshida, and weaves in stunning stagings of classic Kabuki tales that wowed audiences at Cannes Directors' Fortnight.
