MISCELLANEOUS * (2025/12/10) Exclusive interview: "Me and Zombies" movie version of the Internet is out Huang Zongze goes all out to grab the click Cai Jie asks for fans' opinions Huang Zongze demonstrated turning the gun and was familiar with it. The Bosco Wong Chung Chak and Jacky Cai Jie starred film MY DATE WITH A VAMPIRE (KUI MOR LUNG JOOK MA SIU LING) would be a remake of the classic drama MY DATE WITH A VAMPIRE (NGOR WOR GEUNG SI YAU GOR YEUK WUI). Although the movie has abandoned a theatrical release and would only air on mainland platforms, the two leads viewed it positively, believing that it is not a bad thing. They look forward to more viewers being able to see it and having more clicks. The Joey Man Yee Man, Eric Wan Tin Chiu and Kristy Yang Kung Yu starred ATV drama "MY DATE WITH A VAMPIRE" was very popular when it was broadcast in 1998. It was still a classic in the minds of many audiences after many years. The producer and screenwriter of this drama, Man Yee Man's husband Robert Chan Sap Sam earlier served as the producer, screenwriter and director of the movie remake starring Wong Chung Chak, Cai Jie, Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau), Fish Liew Chi Yu and Tommy Chu Pak Hong. The film title was MY DATE WIth A VAMPIRE (KUI MOR LUNG JOOK MA SIU LING), which would premiere on a film and television platform tomorrow. "Ma Xiaoling" Wan Qiwen made a cameo During the production supposedly because Chan Sap Sam was making a movie for the first time, he was strict and meticulous about every shot and delayed the filming schedule. Not only the actor schedules could not match, but also due to over budget issues the film was once rumored to be stillborn. After many twists and turns, the film has been completed but suddenly gave up on a theatrical release. Instead it would air on a mainland platform, because few are going to the theater to watch the movie and the box office has been impacted. After investor calculations, they felt that screening it on platforms would be more advantageous. The movie trailer was released online yesterday. Earlier rumored to guest star, the soul character of the drama version "Ma Siu Ling" Joey Man Yi Man appeared but only as "a pair of eyes". Many online were still greatly surprised. The Kristy Yang Kung Yu played "Wong Chun Chun" is now played by Cai Jie, who also appeared with glasses. As for the protagonist "Fong Tin Yau", Bosco had action series galore in the film. In the behind-the-scenes film he even showed his partner how to spin the gun, and was very skillful. Bosco was sked if he had been practicing the gun spinning for a long time. He laughed and said, "We grew up learning these moves from watching Chow Yun Fat's movies! I have filmed so many episodes of "FLYING TIGER" and I often have to hold a gun; not to mention now, I don't know how many times I have tried it when I was a child. Practice makes perfect!" Speaking of the current change of movies from theaters to platforms, he said, "Of course I would be happy about a theatrical release, but it's out of my hands! The times are changing, and now platform broadcasting is a general trend; which is not a bad thing. Platforms come in touch with more layers, in Hong Kong the cinema admission rate has been less. There are advantages and disadvantages, I hope there will be good results in terms of clicks. Everyone has worked so hard, I want more people to see it." In an interview Cai Jie was asked if she would be disappointed that the movie would not be released in theaters. She said, "I am looking forward to it no matter what platform it is broadcast on, it is still a movie that the entire film put a lot of effort into and it is a classic in my heart. The "MY DATE WITH A VAMPIRE" series is my memory growing up, it's irreplaceable. It is an honor just to be a part of it! This version is quite different from the drama version, but it is just as touching. I hope everyone can leave a comment and talk about it together after watching it." * (2025/12/09) Louis Cheung Kai Chung (Ah Chung) recently attended the movie GOLDEN BOY (GUM TUNG)'s audience appreciation screening and received support from a group of seniors including Bowie Wu Fung, John Chiang Dai Wai and his wife Maggie Li Lin Lin. When Ah Chung learned that Chiang Dai Wai was the first actor to make a boxing film in Hong Kong, he joked that everyone actually has been plagiarizing from the elder. He also asked him on the spot if he ate steamed chicken breast and worked out, Chiang Dai Wai said bluntly, "Where would we learn so much from back then? We just fight, fight and fight! Do you even have to eat chicken breast? We had drumsticks!" The audience cracked up. The Cheung Kai Chung starred film GOLDEN BOY opened on November 21st, and he and his wife Kay Tse On Kay have been working hard on promotion and thanking the audience. After the Tai Po Wang Fuk Court level five fire on November 26th, the promotional activities came to a halt. In addition before marriage Tse On Kay lived at Wang Fuk Court. She lost her former classmate and neighbor and has been in a solemn mood. Ah Chung would resume the audience appreciation activity today and tomorrow. He bluntly said that he still had many souvenirs at home, so he really wanted to thank the audience and meet the viewers again. As for the GOLDEN BOY's box office that has exceeded HK$ 7 million, he said, "This road is really not easy, I hope we can walk together without complaints or regrets!" * (2025/12/09) The movie UNDER CURRENT (NOI MOK) starred Aaron Kwok Fu Sing (Sing Sing), Francis Ng Chun Yu, Simon Yam Tak Wah and Alex Fong Chung Shun. The most surprising for director Alan Mak Siu Fai was Fong Chung Shun's explosive performance. Without any strong competition, the "Best Supporting Actor" at the next Hong Kong Film Awards should be in his pocket. In the face of the current cold winter of film and television, Mak Siu Fai called for the implementation of the inspection system. He suggested that the Hong Kong Film Censorship Authority or the South China Film Bureau should assume the responsibility for approval, so that Cantonese versions of films would be able to directly enter the mainland market, expand the audience base, and relax the restrictions on subjects. Fong Chung Shun hoped that Hong Kong films would improve quickly and lead the movie trend again. Fong Chung Shun and director Mak Siu Fai have been working together for many years. The two became acquainted in 1994 through the movie LOVE RECIPE (OI CHING SIK HEUNG MEI), and then the Mak Siu Fai directed OVERHEARD (SIT TING FUNG WAN) film series all had Fong Chung Shun's performance. Even this time Fong Chung Shun did not hesitate to take the role. Fong Chung Shun said with a smile that the character's "greed for money" was very three-dimensional. "Playing the bad guy isn't bad. The range of interpretation can be greater. With a good director, a good script and good handling, the villain can also be very outstanding." Would he become addicted to playing a villain? He laughed and said that it would depends on the director and script, but he has absolute trust in Mak Siu Fai. Mak Siu Fai said with a smile, "Just as I trust him, his performance is very explosively this time. I am waiting for him to win the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. He just made the eligibility for this year and should have few opponents." Fong Chung Shun replied with a smile, "Now I don't chase awards, after being nominated many times it's something to be happy about. An award would be a bonus." Mak Siu Fai over the years has become known for crime films. He said that in recent years no one has robbed banks and gold shops. They were caught on the day after the crime. Now they are all phone fraud cases and money laundering, but the bank account transfer scene and even opening an offshore company has no "action" scene. He did not find the dramatic tension until he found that money laundering could be done through non-profit organizations, and anonymous cash donations could be used for laundering. Then he confirmed to make this story. In this film the Sing Sing played lawyer grew up in an orphanage, started taekwondo in elementary school, and returned to the orphanage to teach taekwondo when he grew up. Thus he was arranged to have a series of action scenes in the film. Mak Siu Fai stressed that action scenes were all arranged reasonably. At the end of the movie, Kwok Fu Sing and Ng Chun Yu faced Cheung Man Kit. Mak Siu Fai pointed out that the filming was not difficult, but the preliminary preparation time was long. Now filming action scenes emphasizes safety, and actors are no longer required to "risk their lives" as before. However Brother Wah had a hanging scene in the film. Brother Wah described that he could have used a stand-in to perform it, but he still performed it in person. Yet after filming he felt it was too dangerous and would not dare to try it again. Fortunately at the time director Mak Siu Fai yelled cut in time. Mak Siu Fai explained that this scene originally could not use a stunt double. He expressed that he has filmed similar scenes in the past and never asked the actors to really "hang". He would definitely put a table below for the actors to stand firmly on. Everyone else would adjust and the shoot would definitely take place under safe conditions. He recalled that when he was an assistant director on the Joe Ma Wai Ho directed LAWYER LAWYER (SUEN SEI CHO), when filming Eric Kot Man Fai's torture by the hanging the actor pressed the rope hard, accidentally pressed the carotid artery and fainted for a while. Fortunately he was rescued in time. Since then he has been extra cautious with such scenes. When filming Brother Wah's scene this time, Mak Siu Fai has arranged for a high table and stunt team to be ready in advance and told Brother Wah not to press the rope. However Brother Wah still used too much force in pursuit of the effect. "As soon as he closed his eyes, I immediately yelled cut and asked the stunt team to pick him up. Brother Wah fainted and was unconscious for a short time like a second or two. When he woke up, we asked him what he has just done. I understood that he wanted the result to be more realistic so he did that." Mak Siu Fai said that fortunately the footage could be used and no reshoot was needed. Sing Sing in one scene was also chained and hung in mid-air, and Mak Siu Fai said that he has used multiple wires to ensure Sing Sing's safety. Fong Chung Shun joked that he was glad that he did not have to shoot action scenes, but in a scene where he was hit by a car; he had to sit in a roller-shaped carriage and rotate 360 degrees. After turning three or four times he was in rough shape but fortunately he was not hurt. However the cinematographer accidently bumped his head. The film UNDER CURRENT was completed over two years ago but only released now, Mak Siu Fai admitted that the film was shot near the end of the pandemic. At the time everyone still had to wear masks. Reportedly the investor Emperor Motion Pictures originally hoped for a simultaneous release in the mainland. After discussing with mainland investors, he felt that the reputation and box office trend of Hong Kong films in the mainland were weak at that time. So he decided not to release it for the time being, hoping to accumulate word-of-mouth after a period of time and then find a more suitable schedule. He agreed that there was no need to crowd into Christmas or Lunar New Year with blockbusters for any unnecessary "fighting". Now without any competition before Christmas but with plenty of theaters, the film was finally release after more than two years. The delay had nothing to do with the mainland approval, because the film has already been submitted for review and obtained the dragon seal (film release license). Hence this was the direction decided by the market. Yet the current Hong Kong film market has also been sluggish. He saw that among this year's Hong Kong films, this film has the cast and story structure of the heyday of Hong Kong films. "At such a bad time I don't think I can save the market, but I hope it is a shot in the arm. I hope that the audience will go to the theater to watch the movie, at least this type of Hong Kong film is still viable." The Hong Kong Film Awards Association's chairman Derek Yee Tung Sing said that despite the sluggish film market, this year still had more than 40 Hong Kong films and sufficient quantities for nominations. Yet he was already worried that the production of Hong Kong films will continue to shrink in the future, and the Hong Kong Film Awards will have difficulty going further. Mak Siu Fai admitted that this situation "would inevitably happen". If funds would continue to be invested without return, investment would naturally shrink. He said, "Whether the Hong Kong Film Awards would have an award or not is another matter, the current number of films productions is difficult to support the entire industry. Many people have been forced to change careers." He thought that this really needed further consideration. In order to revitalize the industry, Mak Siu Fai put forward two suggestions: first was to implement the inspection system. The Closer Economic Partnership Accord has already allowed the Cantonese version of Hong Kong films to be released in the Greater Bay Area, but since the inspection system has not been implemented, he recommended for the Hong Kong Film Censorship Authority or the South China Film Bureau take on the responsibility of approval, so that Cantonese versions of films would be able to directly enter the mainland market and expand the audience base; the second was to relax the subject matter restrictions to train directors to master the rhythm, atmosphere and technology to support the development of the entire industry. If filming can be opened, it would help restore the diversity and competitiveness of Hong Kong films. He emphasized that policy support was the key, otherwise the number of Hong Kong-produced films will continue to decline and the industry will be difficult to sustain. Fong Chung Shun also lamented that Hong Kong films are currently in a low ebb, but an era must begin to change. "After filming for more than 30 years, Hong Kong films used to be sold to Taiwan and South Korea in the past and were in a leading position. Now instead Korean films are very strong, and it is another era. I hope that Hong Kong films would adapt quickly and improve quickly to lead the movies trend again!" * (2025/12/08) Jeffrey Ngai Chun Sun played the leading role for the first time in the movie ROAD TO VENDETTA (SAT SAU #4), wielding knives and guns and showing off his skills. He did not dare to take the baton as a new generation of action stars, admitting that he has become addicted to making fight scenes, and looked forward to more opportunities to make action movies in the future. Struggling to survive in the adverse market, Ngai Chun Sun said that he was willing to fight, had no idol baggage, would not mind showing his rear, and emphasized that he was not a rich kid like his friend Tyson Yoshi (Cheng Chun Yin) said. He would not dare to spend his savings indiscriminately for next year's album, thank his manager girlfriend Evelyn for fighting alongside him and praised her as the perfect lover. Ngai Chun Sun played the role of a killer in ROAD TO VENDETTA (SAT SAU #4) and worked happily with Japanese actors Sara Minami, Naoto Takenaka, child actor Yurito Mori nd others. Aside from appreciating elder Naoto Takenaka's performance of long dialogue in a singing tone to elevate the "drama" flavor, he was also unrestricted by the language barrier with lead actress Sara Minami and had surprising chemistry. He praised first time director Leung Kui Ying for directing boldly and unconventionally, saying that he was very pleased with the results of the new film. He had no regrets as he already has done his duty. He would leave the result for Heaven to arrange, and had no box office pressure. "I passed 3 auditions for this opportunity to perform, I am very happy to show my serious, dark and steady side with the killer role. Different from my past righteous youth roles, I see it as a milestone in my film career." Ngai Chun Sun spent 8 months training in martial arts, shooting guns and swordsmanship. He lost 17 pounds to be in shape, so he was even more handy in shooting action scenes. "Fighting in the narrow space of the tram carriage is a big challenge, the most memorable is the sword fighting against a group of enemies. The on and off camera staff were highly coordinated, getting the shot in one straight take within 3 hours. The satisfaction was great. Because a katana required a gentle touch to be wielded freely, it really stumped me! when a prop katana hit a finger in the winter, it hurt a lot. In contrast, gunfight shoots were not as difficult since I had some experience." Earlier when he shot for another film a wake surfing scene, his neck was injured from being strangled on a rope and took a month to recover before work resumed. He admitted that he reshot the water skiing action, he kept looking at the direction of the boarding rope and spent half a day to overcome the trauma. Now he would pay more attention to the safety measures at work. "I am addicted to filming action movies. I think it's fun. I have trained a foundation of martial arts and I am no longer afraid. Earlier when working on a new drama some simpler stunts became easier, and the stunt team were at ease and let me fight." Ngai Chun Sun said that he did not dare to take the baton as a new generation of action stars, but he was consciously willing to fight. "Now the economic environment is poor. I don't know how many movies would start production. I am willing to audition for any opportunity, as I think it is training. Of course I am eager to cooperate with different seniors, because I have liked to watch action movies since I was a child; such as Hollywood superstar Dwight Johnson's movies, (Stephen) Chow Sing Chi's SHAOLIN SOCCER, (Nicholas) Tse Ting Fung's INVISIBLE TARGET (NAM YI BOON SIK), (Donnie) Yen Chi Tan's SPL (SAT POR LONG) and FLASH POINT (DOH FOR SIN), etc., are very exciting and sharp. I trained my fists and kicks with my uncle, who was a black belt in karate, until I learned Muay Thai to strengthen my body at the age of 16." Talented and handsome, Ngai Chun Sun said that he had no idol baggage and did not mind cooperating with the killer character to speak foul language, "To be honest, everyone knows foul language. It depends on how you present it. Using foul language during interviews is inappropriate, it doesn't matter though while you chat with old friends. just say it when you need to when you act." Would he be okay with nudity during filming? He said that he had no problem. "I can even show my rear. As long as the plot is suitable, anything is fine. I have to accept different performances as an actor." Would his manager girlfriend Evelyn oppose filming intimate scenes? He said, "No, we are very dedicated and professional in our work, and we don't need her to approve the filming of intimate scenes. She wouldn't need to approve intimate scenes. She would ask me to watch more movies for reference." Ngai Chun Sun's development in the film industry coincided with the cold winter period of films, would he feel that he was born at the wrong time? He lamented that being an actor was very passive. "You can still pay to make songs and music videos yourself, but film is too expensive; so you can only wait for the audition." Tyson Yoshi earlier revealed that he was very wealthy as he worked out at the gym with famous brands. Ngai Chun Sun said with a smile, "He's a bad boy, spewing nonsense! He is really rich. I have to invite him to watch the movie, lobby him to be the investor, and invest in a movie for me." After 5 years in the industry, Ngai Chun Sun said that he has saved up for a rainy day, daily living would not be a problem but he would not dare to spend his savings indiscriminately. "I am not good at making other investments. I will focus on artist work to find a way. I plan to release a new album that would include 8 to 10 songs next year. It costs 6 figures to make a song, all by self-financing." He was grateful to his manager girlfriend for accompanying him and working hard, praising her as a perfect lover. "She is great, dedicating her time and effort to work and me." * (2025/12/07) The opening ceremony of the 12th National Paralympic Games and the 9th Special Olympics, originally scheduled to be held on December 8th, was temporarily canceled due to the fire incident in Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po. The event's chief director Andrew Lau Wai Keung recently appeared on a RTHK program, spoke of the cancellation of this performance that has been prepared for nearly half a year. He also revealed that after returning to Hong Kong from Guangzhou, he went to Wang Fu Court to mourn the victims as soon as possible. This Sunday is the polling day for the Legislative Council general election. Lau Wai Keung hoped that the new term of Members would monitor the government's policies fairly and impartially, and pay attention to livelihood issues such as prices, the elderly and students. He also pointed out that the local film industry is facing many challenges, especially in the complicated procedures for applying for the Film Development Fund, and hopes that the relevant policies can be relaxed. He suggested that the funding mechanism should be more flexible, such as allowing development fees to be approved first, so that creators have room to polish their scripts and reduce pressure. "Not everyone has an office, many people can only write scripts in tea restaurants, but even a cup of milk tea costs more than HK$ 20." When asked when he would return to Hong Kong to make movies, Lau Wai Keung said that he is currently reading a number of scripts and hoped to support the new generation of directors by serving as a producer. He said, "Don't say that Hong Kong films have declined anymore. Actually many filmmakers are still sticking to their positions, especially young directors." He also encouraged juniors to start as screenwriters or other positions and gradually accumulate experience. * (2025/12/07) The Hong Kong Film Awards Best Director Alan Mak Siu Fai directed Emperor Motion Picture's new crime masterpiece UNDER CURRENT (NOI MOK) was released in Hong Kong and Macau on December 6th. The five Best Actors Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Simon Yam Tak Wah, Francis Ng Chun Yu, Alex Fong Chung Shun and John Chiang Dai Wai, together with Niki Chow Lai Kei, Kathy Yuen (Tong Yee), Chan Kwok Bong, Gladys Li Ching Kwan, Lok Ying Kwan, Nina Paw Hee Ching, Fong Ping, German Cheung Man Kit, Peter Chan Charm Man, Steven Lai Chun, and Geng Changjun participated in the performance. Best Actors Kwok Fu Sing and Ng Chun Yu have collaborated again after 25 years. The movie not only battled wits and strength, but also had many action performances. In one action scene Sing Sing fought the Cheung Man Kit played killer. Performing the stunts himself, Kwok Fu Sing's smooth agility left many cheering. Kwok Fu Sing challenged a series of actions such as a 360-degree mid air kick, being strangled and hoisted by chains, and then turning around to unlock it. Even director Mak Siu Fai said that dancer Kwok Fu Sing could not only dance but fight. Kwok Fu Sing attempted the mid air kick many times. Even though he took a good take, he still took the initiative to ask for another shot and won applause and praise from the stunt team and staff on site. Fighting Kwok Fu Sing, Cheung Man Kit did not hold back and showed off his skills. Kwok Fu Sing also praised Cheung Man Kit as a new generation of action actors, with excellent and professional performances. Every time after finishing a shot, they encouraged each other and were very sportsmanlike. Taking a vicious beating from killer Cheung Man Kit, Chan Kwok Bong in the film was hit so hard that his left eye was seriously injured. Although he was not really beaten, his special effects makeup were very realistic and made people feel extremely painful. The left eye injury makeup in particular took almost two or three hours as he had to sit still and let the makeup artist "process". He could not even eat a bite of food, and he had to be helped by the staff to go in and out of the bathroom and the set. Chan Kwok Bong was happy in the midst of suffering, laughing and pointing out that he was like an emperor. With guards escorting him on both sides, he was very majestic. As for the Ng Chun Yu played police role, he drove into the warehouse to save Kwok Fu Sing. During the filming Ng Chun Yu took the initiative to tell Kwok Fu Sing not to be polite, really stepped on his shoulder and even pressed the whole person on him in order to achieve a more realistic effect. Rarely making action scenes, they were very agile and opened the eyes of the audience. After all the action they even had an explosion scene that was smoothly completed in one take. Director Mak Siu Fai was amazed by the professionalism and efficiency of the actors. The first day of filming already met the standards, and the cooperation on and off camera had great chemistry. * (2025/12/06) The the Best New Director at the 60th Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan for TIME STILL TURNS THE PAGES (NIN SIU YUT GEI) Nick Cheuk Yik Him, the film's producer Derek Yee Tung Sing, and the company of which they are directors of, Roundtable Pictures Limited, recently filed a lawsuit with the High Court against the film and television company MM2 Studios Hong Kong Limited (MM2 Studios Hong Kong Limited) and alleged that the other party violated the distribution agreement and demanded compensation of about HK$ 3.65 million, as well as at least about HK$ 420,000 in interest. According to the complaint, the plaintiff is Roundtable Pictures Limited and the defendant is mm2 Studios Hong Kong Limited. The plaintiff claims that the defendant has breached the "International Multiple Rights Distribution Agreement" that has established on February 15th, 2022. The plaintiff demanded compensation of about $3.65 million, interest of about $420,000 and accumulated interest until the court judgment or the defendant paid the money, as well as the payment of legal costs and other costs. According to the Companies Registry, the two directors of Roundtable Pictures Limited are directors Derek Yee Tung Sing and Nick Cheuk Yik Him. According to the website of mm2 Hong Kong Limited, the company provides film production, production and distribution services, including the Hong Kong marketing and global distribution of TIME STILL TURNS THE PAGES. Cheuk Yik Him said that the HK$ 3.65 million was the income that was to be paid according to a contract signed between MM2 and their company. A little money was paid in the early stage but not after that. After collection the amount was still not yet received, thus they took legal action. Cheuk said that as the film owners, TIME STILL TURNS THE PAGES received a filming budget of HK$ 3.25 million from the "First Feature Film Initiative". It was completed because some actors and staff chose dividends, in the end it fortunately made money. As the film owners, it was their responsibility to distribute the money to shareholders. The company could only pay dividends if it has income; but when the money has no received, the biggest trouble for him was that he has broken his promise and affected his reputation, and felt heartbroken. In addition, the producer of TIME STILL TURNS THE PAGES Yee Tung Sing said that the incident has been brewing for a while. Finally legal action was taken because the film participated in the "First Feature Film Initiative" that involved public money, so the amount should be clear. Director Cheuk Yik Him has explained the development of the matter to the relevant departments. The rumor in the industry has been that they have not yet paid dividends despite the high box office, so it was necessary to make the incident public to correct the situation. [Case No.: HCA 2243/25] * (2025/12/05) Recently many events have been postponed or canceled due to the fire. The movie GOLDEN BOY (GUM TUNG) has not been promoted recently, and its box office trend has slowed down a lot compared to before. Some online were heartbroken over Louis Cheung Kai Chung spending all his effort and money so this movie would be release, yet the film unfortunately ran into a decline. As for the end of the year release BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHU GEI), it has also not been promoted recently and even caused controversy. Its box office result might cause concern for some. The fire in Tai Po has caused many people to lose their homes, and the people of Hong Kong have reached out to help the victims tide over the difficulties through various channels. More than a week has passed since the fire broke out, and many events have been postponed or even canceled. They included the movie "GOLDEN BOY", which had a premiere before the fire and was gaining momentum at the box office. The "GOLD" lead actor Cheung Kai Chung trained hard for the movie, during the filming he ended up injuries galore from the fights. Finally he waited for a full 6 years due to financial problems, and had to pay 6 figures to wrap up production before arranging for the official release of the movie. A group of his friends in the circle such as Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Kenny Kwan Chi Bun worked hard on publicity last month, which gave GOLD a decent box office trend. It has soared to 200 on the 3rd day of release, but then a fire broke out in Tai Po and the audience was no longer in the mood to watch movies. Coupled with the lack of publicity, the box office was greatly impacted. As of the day before yesterday, the film only collected nearly 6 million at the box office and the trend slowed down a lot. Some online were heartbroken by Cheung Kai Chung's experience, but he maintained positive energy from having seen all kinds of weather before. He personally replied to the comment, "Stay Positive." As for the movie that has been said to be released at the end of the year, BACK TO THE PAST has launched many AI promotional videos earlier. However since the launch of the movie pilot poster on the 26th of last month, no further publicity has been done. The official release date has not been officially announced so far. At the same time, recently because he poster had the name of mainland actress Bai Baihe listed ahead of the drama version lead actress Jessica Hester Hsuan (Suen Huen), a lot of controversy ensued. Bai Baihe's role has been rumored to be bigger than Suen Huen's and Sonija Kwok Sin Nei's. Many online worried that the gossip with the lack of publicity would affect BACK's box office performance. Actually two schools of voices have already appeared in Hong Kong recently. Some online believed that no celebration should be held for Christmas, New Year's Day and even the Lunar New Year, calling for the money to be used for disaster relief; but some have raised objections, believing that society should gradually return to normal and return to daily life. Once all Christmas and New Year activities would be cancelled, many would be without job and their livelihoods would be affected. Some online further pointed out that the Hong Kong film industry has been very weak, with the total box office revenue of Chinese and foreign films in the first half of this year being more than HK$ 560 million -- down about 16.26% from the same period last year. Among them only 4 Hong Kong films have grossed more than 10 million at the box office, including two Lunar New Year films HIT N FUN (LUM SI KUET DUN) and MY BEST BET (CHEUNG DOH BIT YANG). If the market would remain depressed, it would only add to the trouble the film industry has been in and many filmmakers would have an even harder time of finding their way out. * (2025/12/04) Francis Ng Chun Yu and Aaron Kwok Fu Sing collaborated again after 25 years on the Alan Mak Siu Fai directed Emperor Motion Picture UNDER CURRENT (NOI MOK). This time Chun Yu played an extraordinary policeman, while Sing Sing played a intelligent and brave lawyer. They became involved in a showdown between good and evil between lawyers and police and bandits. Chun Yu worked with Sing Sing again after many years. He laughed and said that because he has not participated in director Mak Siu Fai's work for a long time. He joked that he was not an official actor of any director. With the filming taking place around the epidemic, he just participated in this film in order to avoid going back and forth between the mainland and Hong Kong and having to be quarantined and observed. Chun Yu understood that the film market is sluggish now, and being able to start production on a Hong Kong film was already rare. He too hoped to make a little more, but he smiled bitterly, "My personality is that I don't like to socialize, I enjoy being alone. Although I can talk to a few directors, but I wouldn't be any official actor. Sometimes when I see them talking closely I am rather envious. The ones I am the closest to in the business like Wong Tze Wah and Lau Ching Wan, I might only see them once in three years." Playing a cop in the film, Chun Yu admitted that he was not a role model. Because the character had many extra gestures, it violated his past acting principals. a He said: "Director Mak Siu Fai gave me a lot of freedom, encouraged me to do it. Although there was a few stunts, they were indeed reasonable for this role. I even got a perm for the role, because I am used to (meeting) with the director's requirements." Speaking of the interaction between actors and directors, Chun Yu said with a smile that they were like in a tug of war. "Sometimes I would scare the director, sometimes the director would scare me. This time I did whatever the director wanted me to do, if I couldn't hand in my homework I would look weak." Regarding the fact that many new directors have joined the film industry in recent years, Chun Yu also hoped to work with them and said that he would give confidence to the new directors. He said with a smile, "New directors can't be contradicted, don't 'stun' them as soon as they come out; let them make their own mistakes. In addition film must also have a new experience, let's check out the new director's use of cameras." Chun Yu also said that he would challenge dangerous stunts depending on the situation, but the first condition was his face must be seen on camera; otherwise the personal performance would be meaningless. As for working with Sing Sing again after 25 years and he has already become a father, Chun Yu said that this time he and Sing Sing had more dramatic scenes, and felt like they were telling the story together. He said, "This time I met a real actor, Sing Sing himself is already a good actor. He is more mature than before, for the role to gain weight and grow a belly. He worked on action scenes without hesitation, very clear on every detail and requirements." * (2025/12/04) Jeffrey Ngai Chun Sun played the role of Killer No. 4 in a mysterious organization in the movie ROAD TO VENDETTA (SAT SAU #4) for his first lead. Jeffrey said that after three auditions beforehand, he also did his homework and watched many related movies for reference; among which the movie "The Godfather" left him with the deepest impression. "Even if he sits here, he doesn't need to be deliberately fierce. Just one look would be a kind of intimidation. I really want to put that in the role of 'No. 4'." Despite his mild mannered nice guy image, his character often had to smoke and use foul language. He also observed pedestrians on the streets. In order to create the impression of a killer, Jeffery lost 8 kilograms through diet and exercise before filming from 74 kilograms to 66 kilograms. He got up in the morning and ran for two hours, did muscle training exercises for two hours in the evening, and fasted after 6 p.m. The whole process lasted for half a year. Jeffery said, "I remember when I dropped to my thinnest I looked a little haggard. Many friends at the awards ceremony reminded me, 'Is there something wrong with your body?' They didn't know that I was going to play a killer. I didn't say much, I just said that I was staying in shape." Jeffrey admitted that the director did not ask him to lose weight. The director also trusted him very much, letting him define the role. In addition to losing weight and exercising muscles, he would also magnify his serious and calm personality by 100 times in the role. Jeffrey said with a smile, "Because I have been playing this role for too long, I became quieter and kept to myself. I used to be in a hurry and didn't spend a lot of time to think, but now I feel that being serious and calm would be a comfortable way of doing things." Jeffrey has many action scenes in the film. He had to undergo wrestling, shooting, katana and other action training before filming started, and he said that it was a lot of fun. Was he injured? He admitted that he would not pay attention. "I'm not afraid of getting hurt. I wouldn't care, if seen on camera it would be very obvious, so I would shoot as soon as I became familiar with moves and took my place. If I got hit by someone it would be due to a bad memory. After I got hit I haven't been hurt during the filming." Playing the leading role for the first time, Jeffrey admitted that he had no box office pressure because it was not something he could control. He believed that as the actor as long as he did his job, he would leave the result to Heaven. Earlier he revealed that he had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHA), Jeffrey pointed out that before he realized that he had the disorder he was already used to rehearsing once after reading the script. Hence he did not need to memorize the lines. Now if he knew he would be interviewed he would take the medication in advance so his answers would be clearer. "The doctor says that actually the case is very minor, the medication improves the focus." With a romance with Japanese star Sara Minami in the film, Jeffrey in real life is very much in love with his girlfriend. Once declared that he would wed at age 30, when would he get married? He stated that the plan has never changed, but he hoped that everyone would leave these sweet affairs to them. He would share any good news they would have. He also revealed that he would picture his next generation. "I thought it was pretty happy and felt pretty complete. (Have you thought of how you would propose?) I have run it a few times in my mid. (Do you know how your girlfriend would like the proposal to be like?) I don't need to, I would casually pick a pretty surprise for her." [ In Production Now/Soon ] Can : Gum Doh Bo d. Once a rising star in Hong Kong, a devoted carer for her elderly mother, a single mother struggling to make ends meet, and a widower yearning for connection – they each clutch fading fragments of dignity, community, and hope in a place as worn and forgotten as they are. The film portrays these fragile souls reaching out for connection – and discovering how far loneliness can stretch. Growing up within this immigrant community, the director witnessed firsthand the resilience of immigrants, creating a poignant meditation on displacement, aging, and the delicate threads that bind us all. Vancouver International Film Festival [ VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2025 ] Timothy Yeung's film is a story of big losses, small triumphs, and moments of grace amid the grind of capitalism — in other words, life itself. Four Hong Kong immigrants are living lives of desperation in Scarborough, Ontario: Dan was a pop singer on the rise before his move to Canada, now he's barely scraping by; Eva is a lonely woman whose commitment to her aging mother has held her back in life; Fan is a part-time sex worker struggling to break into real estate; Tony is an aging widower whose factory job is at risk. Through these characters, Yeung explores diasporic alienation, economic hardship, and social isolation. His film is rich in cultural specificity, but that never obstructs his wider view. Building outwards from private hopes and personal pain, he creates a rich social document that cradles within it four precious human portraits. Tam, Yeung, Lee, and Wong are superb — their performances ring with commitment and authenticity. CRUEL STORY OF YOUTH (19TH FRESH WAVE) Length : 100 mins. In face of opposing opinions, how will Marina handle her situation? Homecoming and Going is an expression of director own feelings after going through the same journey. She carefully inserts daily life details to show the cultural differences and reflects on the faint sadness of exchanging fates. 28 uses an Asian woman's perspective to explore the clash between humanism and gentrification. Featuring Golden Horse nominee Elizabeth TANG and artist Sammi MAK in leading roles, the film deromanticises the situation of Hong Kongers living in a foreign land. Genealogy of Violence based on the real life experience of director's friend, the film uses psychedelic electronic music and mysterious special effects to construct a stream of consciousness world, bluntly explaining how institutional violence deprives the body of autonomy. # The short film Genealogy of Violence contains several sequences with flashing lights that may affect those who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy or have other photo-sensitives. None of these offer a complete picture for the audience. Even more so, no synopsis can provide an accurate description. Try this: Mai, a massage girl past her prime, moves to the city to work. She meets Duong, a bar pianist seven years her junior, who pursues her recklessly. When she finally overcomes her inner demons and accepts his love, she discovers he actually comes from a wealthy family. However, Duong's mother, learning of Mai's dishonorable past, rejects her and tries to separate the lovers...Now doesn't this all sound quite familiar, resembling the Cantonese social dramas and ethical tragedies of CHOR Yuen, Filmmaker in Focus of last year? The truth is, Tr?n Thành has adopted a (nearly) hybrid style, combining Douglas SIRK’s melodramatic storytelling, R.W. FASSBINDER's subversive narration, and Pedro ALMODÓVAR's colourful imagery and complex and precise mise-en-scène. Through this constantly changing scenery, sometimes playful and witty, sometimes romantic, at times melancholic, others passionate, the lively portrayal of humankind (the apartment where all sorts inhabit) as in The House of 72 Tenants (1973), Mai's legendary life as heartbreaking as Darling Caroline (1951), the result is truly magnificent. Tr?n Thành’s two other works also rank 4th and 5th in Vietnam's highest-grossing films of all time. Bodies hang precariously from the windows in a tangle of flesh and blood that soon leaves one man dead, while the other coolly walks away, shrugging off just another day in the life of a trained assassin. Known only as No. 4, this bleach-blond, stone-faced killer soon finds himself in Japan, where a seemingly straightforward assignment quickly spirals into a breathless game of cat-and-mouse with the Yakuza's deadliest foot soldiers. No. 4's client, a young woman with a personal vendetta against the city’s most notorious crime syndicate, ropes him into becoming her unwitting accomplice in a game of revenge that leaves them both out of their depth with a bounty on their heads. As their relationship evolves from professional to personal, they are left with no choice but to fight side by side if they are to survive the next 72 desperate hours. Wearing his influences proudly on his sleeve, first-time director NJO steers a classic gun-toting tale of heroic bloodshed into a head-on collision with a sleek, katana-wielding crime story of honour, betrayal, camaraderie, and vengeance. Drenched in neon and buffed to a shimmering polish, ROAD TO VENDETTA owes an inescapable debt to the works of John Woo, Johnnie To, Kinji Fukasaku, and Takashi Miike, even as it doffs its cap to the Hollywood homages—from KILL BILL to JOHN WICK—that have forged this path ahead of it. The result is a composed and enthralling calling card from an emerging new talent, paired with an agile, unflinching leading man, who together make an unstoppable pair. (JAMES MARSH) [ CINEMA CITY ] In Asia, a mysterious assassin organization operates under the guise of a noodle shop hidden in a bustling city, serving as a haven for killers. Assassin No. 4, orphaned at a young age and raised in the noodle shop, is sent to Japan to eliminate a yakuza boss. However, he is unexpectedly ambushed by his client, a Japanese girl seeking revenge. To exact her vengeance, she spares no expense in hiring the assassin and attempts to enlist No. 4 in her grand revenge plan, only for their actions to inadvertently provoke a relentless pursuit by the yakuza, putting both their lives in danger... They are all crammed in a small apartment atop a building, reachable only by steep stairs. When her father smashes household items and strikes her mother, Hsaio-lee can only retreat to a corner of the closet -- her only private space—and have nightmares. One day, she meets Li-li, a transfer student from an American school, and begins dreaming of escape. Set in 1988, Girl transports audience to those times through evocative colors and tightly constructed mise-en-scene. Hsiao-lee's mother, credited only as 'Woman,' is unable to escape from the past wounds that define her present. Her wounds are directly passed down to Hsiao-lee, creating new ones. Girl builds an intricate narrative by layering the characters' concentrated emotions and their clashes. In Manila, Yoji meets Angel, Minerva's conflicted 21-year-old daughter. A Japino rejected by her Japanese father, she finds herself at a crossroads post-graduation. Like Yoji, Angel has also just witnessed death, but the kind that's taking over the seedy parts of Manila. Opening October 5 2025 at the Vancouver International Film Festival Opening at October 23rd at the 22nd Hong Kong Asian Film Festival (10.22-11.09) [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] In the often overlooked, aging neighborhoods of Scarborough, Ontario, four Hong Kong immigrants who arrived in the 1990s quietly unravel in middle age. BLACK SHOWMAN d. In four chapters, Chan looks back at previous moments of resistance and revolution on the island: in 1967, 1973, and 1989. He shows how the activists of then are faring now. Some still burn with righteous fire, while others are disillusioned or have been bought off by the system. The past is presented in fictional scenes, with today's activists playing those of yesteryear. As one of the young demonstrators observes of her predecessor: "All the hardships he endured seem to be repeating in our generation." ONE WEEK FRIENDS d. Unfolding in the faded opulence of Tsim Sha Tsui's Mirador Mansion, it charts an unlikely bond between grizzled veteran Tai Bo and rising star Kuku So—he a mysterious rescuer, she a teenager running away from her mother's abusive partner. At first Alice (the Wonderland echoes ring deliberately) rebuffs her grizzled savior's gallantry. But their shared loneliness catalyzes a fraught rapprochement amid the mansion's crimson-lit maze. Chow wields colorful yet noirish atmospherics with a maestro's command, the dank stairwells and flickering fluorescents conjuring palpable peril. As this intricate two-hander hurtles toward its cathartic climax, you'll be gasping—not just from the suspense, but from sensing the new lifeblood pulsing through the story. In the live wire intensity between Chow's protagonists burns the fierce promise of the arthouse's inheritance of Hong Kong's pulp legacy. Injustice has reigned over the quiet town of Shek O in Hong Kong. Chu Po is a young masked vigilante out to help those in need and kick a baddie’s ass. Just as her social-media popularity increases, so do her frequent injuries, as she learns that her beginner's skills may be no match for those of more experienced fighters. Fate draws her to a local church infested with illicit drug-dealing activities. She soon realizes her connection to that church is more personal than expected as there's a link to her family's past. Should she simply stay in the shadows and pray for a miracle, or put her karate chops to good use? An rejuvenated ode to both THE KARATE KID and the action heroines of Hong Kong's Golden Age, the latest from director Ricky Ko after his award-winning TIME (Fantasia 2021) once again nicely combines nostalgia and modernity with a potent mix of martial arts, humour, sweetness, and compelling characters, OUT OF THE SHADOW offers a guaranteed good time, a reminder of why we love HK movies so much in the first place. Starring several rising stars from Hong Kong, including two actors reunited after Fantasia favourite PORT OF CALL (2015), OUT OF THE SHADOW is fresh off several Asian festivals, and makes its first stopover in the West at Fantasia before it hits its home territory this fall. – King-Wei Chu [ OASKA ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL 2024 ] Chu Po is a sprightly teenage girl with a strong sense of justice but her mother, Tao Kuen Ying, would rather they keep a low profile in the fishing town of Tai O. However, people are in need and Po decides to take action after learning a little karate. This is when Tao reveals a secret crime-fighting history of her own. Ricky KO, director of Time (2021, OAFF2022), delivers a playful vigilante film, complete with laughs, fighting, Cantonese humour, and a touch of family drama unfold in the beautiful setting of Tai O. Despite the humour, the message has some moral messages: that one must do the right thing, help others and also know when to seek help. However, when the sawmill faces compulsory eviction by the government for its Northern Metropolis development project, the survival of this successful family-owned business becomes a modern David-versus-Goliath story. Opening July 26 2025 [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] Nestled between the skyscrapers of Hong Kong, housing some of high finance's most creative minds, and the gleaming glass and steel boxes of Shenzhen, China's Silicon Valley where the future is being built, lies a hidden world no less exceptional. In this lost country backwater of mountains and vegetable fields, factories still manufacture soy sauce in century old clay pots; Kenny hand makes concrete spacers that hold up some of the world's longest suspension bridges. Cha Guo shines light on the lives of the villagers, craftsmen, farmers and business owners who make up this local village's close-knit community. The people’s philosophy and signature are their resilience and their dedication. They embody "Made in Hong Kong" over generations. Cha Guo celebrates the heroes of Hong Kong and the fabric of what makes it and its people synonymous with warmth and the ubiquitous "can do" attitude. The title Cha Guo embodies the many narratives that connect older generations to the younger through the sharing of something savory and heart-warming. Cha guo is a homemade Chinese tea cake traditionally shared at family gatherings and celebrations. The Directors, Daphné Mandel and Guy Bertrand, set out not only to document this village life and heritage but also to capture its distinctly Hong Kong spirit. GAMER GIRLS Can : Din Gaing Nui Hai d. It is an adaptation of a bestseller by Shuichi Yoshida, and weaves in stunning stagings of classic Kabuki tales that wowed audiences at Cannes Directors' Fortnight. In 1960s Nagasaki, after the death of his yakuza father, gifted teenager Kikuo is taken under the wing of famed Kabuki actor Hanjiro Hanai, even though the great performer already has a son, Shunsuke, who has dedicated his life to the art. Over fifty years, the relationship of the two disciples entwines and twists, and their hearts suffer as much yearning, glory and downfall as their on- stage alter-egos.
