SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT cost HK$ 400 million to make. From preparation, filming to release the movie took more than 10 years. After the production wrapped up in 2017 but the movie has not been scheduled for release, even Leung Ka Fai once wondered, "Do they want to wait until I die to release it?" Finally it was arranged to be released on National Day, when there would be a half- price discount for watching movies. However the movie release has been surprisingly low-key, without any premiere ceremony or even audience appreciation activities to generate buzz. Only preview screenings were arranged. It led to SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT's action director Xiong Xinxin to complain, "The works of a psychopath are not worth looking forward to."
