MISCELLANEOUS * (2025/09/23) The Asian Film Awards Academy organized, with the assistance of the Hong Kong Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, the Hong Kong Film Development Fund, and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta, the "Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation - Kuala Lumpur" was officially unveiled. The opening film MY FIRST OF MAY (MO MING JI)'s star Aaron Kwok Fu Sing made an appearance in person. He said that he has always supported the creation of new directors and believed that film was the common language of the world. The audience would be able to find resonance and empathy in it, which is one of the charms of movies he liked. During the tour, six selected Hong Kong films were screened at local cinemas from September 20th to 28th, including MY FIRST OF MAY (MO MING JI), FIGHT FOR TOMORROW (PING MING SAM LONG), GOOD GAME (JOOK DIN), FOUR TRAILS, TRUE LOVE, FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE (CHIN CHIN SHUI YUET), and a re-screening of the 2019 acclaimed film I'M LIVIN' IT (MAK LO YUN). Best Actor Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, MY FIRST OF MAY director James Hung Ling Ching, FIGHT FOR TOMORROW star Locker Lam Ka Hei and action director Chan Chun Fung, FOUR TRAILS director Robin Lee, and GOOD GAME's original story creator, planner, actor and action director Ken Law Ho Ming all appeared in person to interact with the audience up close. The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta, Mr Libera Cheng Ching-mon, also attended the event and delivered a speech, saying, "The HKSAR Government has always been committed to promote the development of the film industry, from funding productions, nurturing talents to expanding the market it has continuously provided support to the industry. In the past three years, the works funded by the Cultural and Creative Affairs Department accounted for nearly 30% of the box office in Hong Kong. In the future, we will further strengthen international publicity, exchanges and business matching with the Mainland and promote Hong Kong films to a broader stage." The Kwok Fu Sing starred MY FIRST OF MAY was the highlight of the event, focusing on a father who has gone from escaping to taking responsibility, showing the healing power of family affection. Kwok Fu Sing said that he was honored to participate in this event. "As a Hong Kong actor, I have made many different types of films and I have always supported the creation of new directors. I have also played many different roles. Movies are the common language of the world, and the audience can find resonance and empathy in them. This is one of the charms of movies I like!" Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and James Hung Ling Ching interacted with the audience up close and shared their feelings after the screening. Kwok Fu Sing and Natalie Hsu (Hui Yan Yi) in the film played father and daughter who gradually rebuild their family relationship from conflicts and resentments. Kwok Fu Sing analyzed his character "Tang Suk Yin". "He fell from the peak of the three-time champion to rock bottom, but no one around him really understood him. He didn't dare to talk with anyone either. When his mother fell ill, he was finally motivated to wake up. He was unable to continue running away, as he must return home and bear the responsibility." He specifically mentioned the scene where he apologized to Hui Yan Yi through the door, which still left a deep impression with him. "We shot three versions of this scene and finally decided to use the first one, because it was able to most directly shows the character's collapse." In another scene he fell asleep as his daughter did her homework and vaguely heard his daughter calling her father softly. Kwok Fu Sing recalled, "That moment felt very warm. As a father I actually enjoyed that moment, but I didn't dare to let my daughter see me affected, so I could only silently shed a bittersweet tear." Some viewers asked as a father in reality, would he make such a sacrifice for his daughter? He responded, "In fact many viewers now would, often choosing to escape when encountering things they don't want to face. Yet through the movie, I want to convey the message of cherishing the people around me." He also revealed that he specifically took his daughters to the theater to watch MY FIRST OF MAY. "Although they are still young, they would take the initiative to ask questions where they don't understand. I think 'asking' is a good thing, and I would slowly explain it to them. This is also my ideal parent-child interaction. I hope the children can see their father working hard and being a good example." In addition, Locker Lam Ka Hei played a boxer in FIGHT FOR TOMORROW (PING MING SAM LONG). He was very excited about visiting Kuala Lumpur again. "I stayed in Kuala Lumpur for 3 months for a movie. Making a movie here was very pleasant and friendly. Hong Kong films to whether the Chinese community there or the Malaysians hold special meaning." Cutting-edge action martial arts director Ken Law Ho Ming also appeared with the film GOOD GAME (JOOK DIN). He said that this work originated from a simple idea. "Originally I just wrote a story for myself, but I didn't expect doing more and more during the process from writing the script, planning, location scouting to production. Although I got paid once for four jobs, I was still very happy to be able to take care of the film on and off camera. I hope the audience would be pleased with it." * (2025/09/22) The Penny Chan Kwok Fung, Snow Suen Man Suet (Ah Suet), and Wong Man Piu (Brother Biu) starred movie REMEMBER ME, REMEMBER LOVE (OI. WAN GEI DUT) was adapted from a true story and told the story of a pair of former lovers who faced struggles with family and illness together after reuniting. The three actors not only integrated their own experiences into the roles, but also cultivate chemistry in their collaboration; the emotions in the film were heavy and realistic, but outside the film was full of joy. In REMEMBER ME, REMEMBER LOVE Ah Suet and Kwok Fung played a pair of lovers from their school days, who reunited and renewed their relationship when they grew up. However Ah Suet needed to take care of her father (Wong Man Piu), who suffered from dementia. Under the pressure of work and family, she even developed symptoms of dementia. Ah Suet believed that the film realistically presented the difficulties and emotional struggles of caregivers, and admitted that from the daily life of taking care of a centenarian grandmother and two sons. She deeply understood the difficulties of caregivers and was grateful that the centenarian grandmother is still healthy, saying, "Although the children are cute, they still make me feel tired and emotionally out of control when they are naughty." Ah Suet also revealed that in reality, she had friction with her husband due to work fatigue. "He may not fully understand the physical and mental exertion of an actor's work. For example he would ask me to take the children to the theme park after work, but he does not understand that I am exhausted." However as a "happy young housewife" she also praised her husband for being considerate and thoughtful, sharing housework, taking care of children, and helping to buy groceries. He was already a "100% good husband". Brother Biu drew on his mother's real experience in her later years to delicately interpret dementia patients. "My mother once forgot my name and even called me by my sister's name. In the film when I got into a vehicle I also 'added drama', as I pretend to be weak on my feet, want to get on the car but can't do it. Finally Kwok Fung had to lend a hand, which made the role more convincing." Kwok Fung played a part time worker who at first was less than enthusiastic. He said that when he was young he also once lived casually, then he became a father and started to work hard for his children -- much like his character's transition later. Although the plot was heavy, the set had a lot of laughter. Ah Suet and Kwok Fung wore school uniforms to play student romance. Kwok Fung appeared in a wig and looked funny. Ah Suet joked that as soon as Kwok Fung put on the wig he looked just Ting Hai in THE GREED OF MEN. Kwok Fung was very shy when the two were filming the kissing scene, "In the end I had to take the initiative to 'step forward', and the staff even made fun of me for being so active and impatient." Although the three have never worked together in their former company TVB, they were full of chemistry. Kwok Fung described the collaboration with Ah Suet as having a "first love feeling"; Ah Suet pointed out that Kwok Fung often sang on the set. Although it was pleasant, she could not hold back her laughter. Brother Biu praised the two juniors, "They often ask me if I had breakfast, and the director is really good at choosing actors who 'respect their elders'." * (2025/09/22) The 60-year-old Nick Cheung Ka Fai has been in the industry for 37 years and has played countless roles in the film industry. In the past 10 years his acting career has undergone a major transformation, with mostly gloomy, suspenseful, or police action movies such as BEAST STALKER (JING YUN), BREAKING NEWS (DAI SI GEIN), UNBEATABLE (GIK JIN), etc.; Actually as early as in the 90s Cheung Ka Fai has had a series of famous comedy movies, the classic was THE CONMAN (DOH HUP 1999) when he successfully broke through with the role of "Fa Gwut Lung". Recently Cheung Ka Fai has been rumored to return to the ranks of comedy and cooperate with the 30-year-old Golden Horse Award "Best Actress" Chung Suet Ying. Cheung Ka Fai has been full of comedy genes in his bones. Once regarded as Stephen Chow Sing Chi's successor, he was the backbone of local comedy films at that time with classic works such as THE CONMAN (DOH HUP 1999), THE CONMAN IN TOKYO (JUNG WA DOH HUP), PRINCE CHARMNING (HAK MA WONG JI), MY IS MY ENEMY, PARTNER AND FATHER IN LAW (FA GWUT LUNG YU CHIN NIN CHUNG), RUNAWAY (JAU TAU YAU LO), etc. Yet in the past 10 years Cheung Ka Fai began to transition, break away from the comedy route and started his road to police films. He also won the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor for BEAST STALKER (JING YUN) and UNBEATABLE (GIK JIN), which brought him to the peak of his career. Later Cheung Ka Fai even challenged himself to be a director, and successively directed supernatural horror films such as HUNGRY GHOST RITUAL (YU LAN SUN GUNG), KEEPER OF DARKNESS (TOR DEI KUI MOR YUN), and PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG). In an interview with Stephen Chan Chi Wan earlier, Cheung Ka Fai revealed that it was not that he did not want to make comedy, but he did not want to make a gambling movie. "Because there is no breakthrough, I can't do it now even if I play 'Fa Gwut Lung' again. That stage has passed!" Having collaborated with Cheung Ka Fai on many movies, Andy Lau Tak Wa also expressed his hope to collaborate with Cheung Ka Fai on comedies such as THE CONMAN (DOH HUP) again, but unfortunately it has not been successful. When everyone thought that Cheung Ka Fai has "thoroughly shut the door" on comedy, good news came recently. Cheung Ka Fai has decided to return to the ranks of comedy, and will cooperate with the THE WAY WE TALK's Golden Horse Award Best Actress last year Chung Suet Ying. In this film market's "super winter" it truly was rare for a domestic film to start production with the support of Best Actor. It was really worth looking forward to. The film will be directed by MY PRINCE EDWARD (GUM DOH), A LYRICIST WANNABE (TIN CHI L) director Norris Wong Yi Lam with Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting as the producer, and is expected to officially start filming from late September to early October. This would also be Cheung Yuen Ting's restart after the turmoil of the 2022 documentary TO MY NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD SELF (CUP SUP GAU SHUI DIK NGOR). Cheung Ka Fai has planned to start work on UNBEATABLE 2 (GIK JIN 2) next year after filming this comedy. Cheung Ka Fai and Chung Suet Ying met at the Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy two years ago. The very discerning Ka Fai saw this little sister back then, and already felt that she had a lot of potential. He also has been very supportive of this junior. At the beginning of this year THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET) held a charity premiere, Ka Fai made a special trip to show his support and even joked that Chung Suet Ying's development as an actress would be better than being a singer. He pointed out that she was an actor who was hindered by being a singer; at that time when asked if the two would have a chance to cooperate, Ka Fai has already leaked the rumor that he wanted to invite Chung Suet Ying to participate in the movie he would direct and even joked that the two could play a couple together. Later when the premiere of Ka Fai's new film PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG) was held, Chung Suet Ying also appeared to show her support. Obviously they have a very good relationship. Ka Fai would play Chung Suet Ying's father. He was very excited to be invited. "Passing the torch, I am very happy to be able to work with the younger generations. Actually I have quite a connection with Director Wong and Chung Suet Ying. Earlier I have run into them individually at the Udine Film Festival and thought that we had a lot to talk about." As for whether he would plan to direct again, Ka Fai admitted, "The economy is poor right now, if I direct again the pressure would be enormous. I am not too ambitious in this area anyway, so I would just keep acting first." * (2025/09/21) The Korean music event "2025 The Fact Music Awards" (TMA) took place at the Grand Lisboa Palace Hotel in Macau yesterday, with guy groups Stray Kids, ZEROBASEONE (ZB1), girl groups aespa, IVE, etc. walking on the red carpet. Guest presenter Donnie Yen Chi Tan and his wife Cissy Wang Sze Sze appeared. The former expressed that his directed and starred JOHN WICK spin off film would start production soon. Would Keanu Reeves make a cameo appearance? Chi Tan described him as "dessert", which seemed to imply that there would be a chance; MIRROR member Anson Lo Hon Ting, who served as a guest performer, is looking forward to meeting the girl group aespa, and pointed out that Johnnie To Kei Fung's new film would resume work at the end of the year. He said with a smile, "I'm always ready." "The last time we shot was about three months ago. (Has your work been affected?) No, absolutely not. It was scheduled so there was no problem." He also pointed out that when To Sir met with the team, each time when discussing the character design it would take a long time. So he had quite an understanding of the state of the role. He would only need to familiarize himself with the script after the production began to very easily return to form. * (2025/09/21) Greg Hsu Kuang-han, Angela Yuen Lai Lam and director Benny Kung Siu Ping attended the pre-sale ticket meeting of the movie MEASURE IN LOVE in Taiwan yesterday, attracting nearly 1,000 fans to attend. Discharged from the army last month, Hsu Kuang-han appeared with Yuen Lai Lam and the director, and the fans at the scene screamed continuously. When Hsu Kuang-han learned that the 80-year-old grandmother who was in the first position arrived before 5 a.m., he said in surprise, "I don't want this! Is she in good health?" The crowd surprised Yuen Lai Lam as she did not expect so many people to come. She praised Kuang-han's fans for being very beautiful and spicy. * (2025/09/21) The Asian Film Awards Academy and the 30th Busan International Film Festival jointed organized "Hong Kong Night" was held at a hotel in Busan the day before yesterday. The Cultural and Creative Industries Development Office of the HKSAR Government and the Hong Kong Film Development Council funded the event and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council supported the event. It was one of the important exchange activities of this year's film festival. The event attracted more than 600 guests from around the world, including filmmakers, media, curators and industry representatives, as well as movie stars Sylvia Chang Ai-chia, Shu Qi, Chang Chen and others. The guests took this opportunity to gather to further deepen international ties. The "Hong Kong Night" held the night before was a star-studded event, with film industry professionals from around the world exchanging views and collaborative prospects during the dinner, fully demonstrating the value of "Hong Kong Night" as a cross-regional film platform. The Director of the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Office (Film Promotion Services) of the HKSAR Government, Irene Yuen Wing Yan said in her speech that films can transcend borders, and "Hong Kong Nights" is a platform to connect filmmakers from around the world. That night, Chang Ai-chia, Shu Qi, Chang Chen, Lee Sinjie, as well as Japanese director Yoshiyuki Okuyama, Berlin Film Festival director Tricia Tuttle, international filmmakers Teo Yoo, Justin Min, etc. gathered at the scene. Shu Qi described that she felt an unprecedented crowd of people at "Hong Kong Night" and met many new faces. She also hoped that Hong Kong films will continue to flourish in the future. Chang Chen said, "'Hong Kong Night' was a great success, and I saw many familiar figures. The charm of the festival is that you can meet new people in such a place and become old friends in the future!" Lee Sinjie also said, "I am very happy to come to the 'Hong Kong Night' at the Busan International Film Festival and meet many friends I haven't seen for a long time." The annual theme of this year's Asian Film Awards would be "Together We Dare". When asked about the most courageous challenge in his film career, Chang Chen recalled a high-altitude wire scene during the filming of MONK COMES DOWN THE MOUNTAIN. "Those wires were very long, ten full stories high. I had to fly over the roof, which was really a very bold challenge." Shu Qi shared that her greatest courage came from the change of identity. "From the role of an actor to a director, the first time I became a director was a very brave attempt. I think having dreams is the most beautiful, and if you have dreams you have to chase them!" Chang Ai-chia not only attended the new film's world premiere as the producer of MEASURE IN LOVE (TA NIN TA YUT) but also received the "Camellia Award". In her speech at "Hong Kong Night", Chang Ai-chia said, "The premiere of MEASURE IN LOVE in Busan means a lot to me and the entire team. We would like to thank the Hong Kong Film Development Council's 'Directors' Succession Scheme' for its support, which allows veteran filmmakers to collaborate with the next generation of directors. The rarest thing about MEASURE IN LOVE is working with a new generation of directors, learning how to allocate resources more effectively and thinking about what other possibilities can be extended beyond filming during the process." Also present were four Hong Kong producers Kinnie Cheung Kit Nei, Choi Ho Chuen, Chong Suk Fong and Wang Yin Ming, who were invited to participate in the "Producer Hub" of the "Busan Asian Content and Film Market". They also actively interacted with cross-regional production representatives to further promote co-production and cooperation. In addition, according to Korean media reports, Tony Leung Ka Fai and Jun Moon Jun Hwi, a mainland member of the Korean group SEVENTEEN, appeared at the premiere of the Chinese film THE SHADOW'S EDGE (BO FUNG JUI YING) in Haeundae, Busan the night before. Without any advanced ticket sales, fan in order to fight for the best spot already lined up outside the cinema 7 hours before the show began. The two greeted the audience before the film. Moon Jun Hwi first said in Putonghua, "The film has too many surprises and too many twists that are waiting for you to discover, so I won't say too much." Then he said in Korean that it is really an honor to watch the movie here with 4,000 fans, and believed everyone will like THE SHADOW'S EDGE. As for Leung Ka Fai. He also said in Putonghua, "I hope everyone will be tense and experience our film together!" Tony Leung Chiu Wai participated in director Ildiko Enyedi's new film SILENT FRIEND, which was selected for the "Icons" section of this year's Busan Film Festival. Leung Chiu Wai visited the Busan Film Festival again after 3 years, and he would appear at the Busan Cinema Center Biff Theater on the afternoon of the 24th to attend the post-screening sharing session of SILENT FRIEND, and then meet with fans the next night. He would also conduct an "Open Talk" forum at the outdoor stage and shared the production highlights with film viewers. * (2025/09/20) On the 20th anniversary of the Andrew Lau Wai Keung and Alan Mak Siu Fai directed movie INITIAL D (TAU MAN JI D), its 4K restoration of the Dolby Atmos version returned to the big screen and the premiere ceremony was held a few days ago. The venue set up "Fujiwara Tofu Shop" and "AE86" photo spots, and many fans drove AE86 to show their support and filled the parking lot. Lau Wai Keung and Mak Siu Fai shared interesting stories about filming, and Lau Wai Keung jokingly introduced himself, "I am Jay Chou." He also joked that the biggest change in 20 years was the "body swap" with Mak Siu Fai. Mak Siu Fai said, "People asked you if you had a rough time back then. Everyone knows why no sequel was made!" Lau Wai Keung explained, "Due to copyright issues we could not start filming on the second installment. As Mak Siu Fai said, 'With good things one is enough'." Mak Siu Fai said that he has assembled a very good team at that time and spent more than 40 working days to complete the shoot. Lau Wai Keung smiled and said, "No wonder I felt so tired every day at that time. I set 67 sets of car chases a day. Everyone was fighting for their lives." Mak Siu Fai said, "If Mrs. Lau is here, she will definitely not permit the movie to be made!" After the screening the audience applauded, and the two directors took the stage again to share. Mak Siu Fai said, "Although I have seen it many times, the sound effect is completely different this time, the three-dimensional sense is so strong, I am so excited! The Hong Kong film market right now is a bit poor, but the most important thing is the production. Lau Wai Keung, I and the whole team hope to keep it going." Lau Wai Keung said, "After watching it I thought I was very impressive. My son sat next to me. He is studying film, and he said it was great. I said, 'Of course, I shot it!' Some effects could not be achieved 20 years ago, but this time I had the chance to restore them. The shooting angles, sound effects, music and special effects are presented again, so the movie doesn't look like it was shot 20 years ago. Today I feel as happy as the first release 20 years ago!" He hoped that INITIAL D would attract the audience and set off a boom in watching movies in theaters. Philip Ng Wan Lung is a loyal fan of INITIAL D, from the comic, animation to the movie version he has rewatched it many times. He said, "Because I drive very slowly, watching the movie can make up for things I can't do!" * (2025/09/19) The e-sport themed inspirational movie GOOD GAME (JOOK DIN) opened yesterday. Although the film was not a big production, the audience still praised the film as a surprise. Playing game console virtual characters in the film, Amy Lo Wai Man, ANSONBEAN Chan Ngai Sun and Chloe So Ho Yi were interviewed about their filming experiences. Lo Wai Man and ANSONBEAN were both injured during the filming of the action scenes, one was injured to the point of blood covering the entire leg, and the other was hit with a cracked bone; but they still completed the filming and showed professionalism! Lo Wai Man played the virtual character of Andrew Lam Man Chung in the e-sports game, she joked that the director asked her not to directly imitate Brother Chung and he was too difficult to imitate anymore. Lam Man Chung was also too funny on the set, and Lo Wai Man is often "shocked" by him. As for the styling, she had to wear a leather jacket, pose with a shield and pretend to be shot; but during the filming of an action scene staged in the market, her knees were scrapped up, and as a result, her entire leg was covered in blood. Originally the shoot could not continue, but she finally decided to use a nude bra to cover up her kneecap. She continue the shoot then rely on post production to remove it. She did not mind leaving a scar and even thought it would look very cool. ANSONBEAN had the most action scenes in the film, climbing and carrying two guns just like John Wick's "Gun Fu". He even practiced somersaults before the performance, and took the initiative to challenge the action director Law Ho Ming to challenge stunts he has never done before. On the first day he was filming in a narrow ditch outdoors, and his knee accidentally hit a stone embankment and cracked his bones. "However I was so excited that I didn't feel any pain at the time, I didn't know the pain until I knelt down to shoot an action scene the next day!" When filming another scene with "Gun Fu" to spin the gun, he scratched his fingers and bled, but fortunately the scene could still be used. As for So Ho Yi as the sniper she had the least action scenes, but she had to carry a very heavy rifle. The team made three guns of different weights as a backup, but the director only asked her to use the heaviest real gun. "Sometimes I couldn't hold it for less than 5 seconds, my arm couldn't stay in place and drooped down. With the kick back from firing the gun, my shoulder is all bruised!" While on location she was under the sun for 12 hours and ended up vomiting when she returned home. She said, "It was so rough that I got sick, I probably had a minor heat stroke." ANSONBEAN earlier announced his retreat from show business, but very quickly changed his mind, returned to work and got back on track. He said, "I will continue to work, work hard along the way. At the time because of the pressure of social media, the whole mode of operation has been different. When I first entered the industry, I really wanted to perform and didn't think too much, but now I find that I have to make a lot of videos. I have never thought that I would need to do so much, but when I took a break I slowly remembered performing has to come first. I like Hip Hop, I like rap, I like music and acting, then I got my strength back. I don't want to share my life so much, but I have to remember that I am performing first. In order to be able to perform, I am active and will continue to work hard. During the break, everyone have shown me a lot of care, introduced books for me to read, and also changed my living habits. I have different views toward work, and everyone's love has helped me a lot." Has his ex-girlfriend Jaime Cheung Tin Wing also helped him? He said, "She definitely helped me, my family, Grandma, Little brother too, even the company gave me a lot of time to rest. Thank you very much everyone." * (2025/09/18) In the Sylvia Chang Ai-chia produced, Benny Kung Siu Ping directed fantasy romance movie MEASURE IN LOVE (TA NIN TA YUT), one day in Angela Yuen Lai Lam's 'Aurora Zone" is equivalent to one year in Greg Hsu Kuang-han's. The two compose a fantasy romance across time and space. Yuen Lai Lam said that in order to integrate Hsu Kuang-han into the performance, if Hsu Kuang-han was present during filming, she would read the dialogue in Mandarin. She would speak Cantonese when performing alone, and then dub later. Many people thought that the movie was filmed elsewhere, but in fact it was all produced and filmed in Hong Kong. When Hsu Kuang-han made his first Hong Kong film, he stayed in Hong Kong for more than a month. He felt both rushed and sweet as the team was like a small family that worked together, which he liked very much. Hsu Kuang-han said that working with Yuen Lai Lam felt particularly good. "She has a lively personality, her characteristics are quirky and she is a bit mature and stable." Yuen Lai Lam recalled that she and Hsu Kuang-han first met at the awards ceremony, but they passed each other by. Their first official meeting was at a film company in Taiwan, and at that time she felt that his head was very small. Was there any pressure from working with Taiwanese male god Hsu Kuang-han? Yuen Lai Lam laughed and said that she was both excited and happy, but in the film they lived in different times and spaces. She lived in the advanced and rational "Aurora Zone", and he was in the rough "Evergreen Zone". She said, "Our time flow is different. My one day is equal to his one year, so love is full of challenges. Many scenes during filming require imagination, such as experiencing a gravitational field on a boat ride, or performing unknown scenes out of thin air. Many things were done in post production, so the shoot requires a very strong sense of faith." Hsu Kuang-han admitted that performing some scenes out of thin air was quite difficult, but the costumes and the sets enable everyone to get into the situation. Finding a real drainage system for a location shoot helped him with getting into character. In the film he also needed to play from young to old. He admitted that he had to rely on the special effect "mask" to support him, and wrinkles also needed the blessing of post-production special effects. This time they both needed to work on wires. Yuen Lai Lam said that the wire she was on could rotate and revolution, which felt very fun; Hsu Kuang-han smiled bitterly and said that he has been on the wires for three days while Yuen Lai Lam has been running for three days below. When asked if he needed to cultivate his emotions before filming a kiss scene with Yuen Lai Lam? Hsu Kuang-han said that he entered the state after only a few seconds of looking at each other, and he did not feel embarrassed. He said with a smile, "If I get embarrassed I wouldn't be an actor!" Yuen Lai Lam also agreed. In the film Hsu Kuang-han romantically gave flowers to Yuen Lai Lam. He said with a smile that in reality he would give more flowers to his mother or Sister Chang (Chang Ai-chia). As for gifts to his girlfriend she would see what she lacked, and he would occasionally send flowers to make life interesting. Yuen Lai Lam smiled and said that she has not received flowers for a long time. Yuan Lilin regards Zhang Aijia as his goal Hsu Kuang-han was deeply moved when he first read the script, "I like things with contrasts, in a funeral scene in the film, the residents of the 'Evergreen Zone' bid farewell to their sadness in a happy way. This concept makes me very engaged." He revealed that Sister Chang and the director discussed adherence to principles on the set and got along very cutely. He praised Sister Chang for being a legend but having no airs. She often made snacks to comfort the team, invited everyone to dinner at her home, chatted and joked with young actors. She made everyone feel warm, showed her temperament and pattern, which made him respect her. She also gave the actor a lot of freedom to perform, for which he could not be more grateful. Yuen Lai Lam once again played Chang Ai-chia's "daughter" this time, praising Sister Chang for being full of motherly love. She would come to the scene at 5 a.m. every morning. This love and passion for film has deeply affected her, as she stated that Sister Chang would be her role model. The 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) kicked off yesterday (17th), and the Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) will co- organize the annual event "Hong Kong Night" at the Paradise Hotel Busan on September 19, attracting filmmakers from many places. Chang Ai-chia was awarded the "Camellia Award" at this year's film festival and will also visit "Hong Kong Night" to interact with filmmakers from all over the world. She said, "I am deeply moved and grateful to be awarded the Camellia Award. This is not only an affirmation of the individual, but also a strong recognition of the dedication and contribution of female filmmakers over the years." The film she produced MEASURE IN LOVE would hold its world premiere at the film festival. Lead actress Yuen Lai Lam was excited about participating in the Busan Film Festival for the first time, looking forward to meeting two international directors Lee Chang-dong and Sean Baker. She said with a smile, "Just seeing them from a distance would be enough for me!" [ In Production Now/Soon ] SEE YOU MY DEAR Can : Nui Yi 2 d. Bodies hang precariously from the windows in a tangle of flesh and blood that soon leaves one man dead, while the other coolly walks away, shrugging off just another day in the life of a trained assassin. Known only as No. 4, this bleach-blond, stone-faced killer soon finds himself in Japan, where a seemingly straightforward assignment quickly spirals into a breathless game of cat-and-mouse with the Yakuza's deadliest foot soldiers. No. 4's client, a young woman with a personal vendetta against the city’s most notorious crime syndicate, ropes him into becoming her unwitting accomplice in a game of revenge that leaves them both out of their depth with a bounty on their heads. As their relationship evolves from professional to personal, they are left with no choice but to fight side by side if they are to survive the next 72 desperate hours. Wearing his influences proudly on his sleeve, first-time director NJO steers a classic gun-toting tale of heroic bloodshed into a head-on collision with a sleek, katana-wielding crime story of honour, betrayal, camaraderie, and vengeance. Drenched in neon and buffed to a shimmering polish, ROAD TO VENDETTA owes an inescapable debt to the works of John Woo, Johnnie To, Kinji Fukasaku, and Takashi Miike, even as it doffs its cap to the Hollywood homages—from KILL BILL to JOHN WICK—that have forged this path ahead of it. The result is a composed and enthralling calling card from an emerging new talent, paired with an agile, unflinching leading man, who together make an unstoppable pair. Unfolding in the faded opulence of Tsim Sha Tsui's Mirador Mansion, it charts an unlikely bond between grizzled veteran Tai Bo and rising star Kuku So—he a mysterious rescuer, she a teenager running away from her mother's abusive partner. At first Alice (the Wonderland echoes ring deliberately) rebuffs her grizzled savior's gallantry. But their shared loneliness catalyzes a fraught rapprochement amid the mansion's crimson-lit maze. Chow wields colorful yet noirish atmospherics with a maestro's command, the dank stairwells and flickering fluorescents conjuring palpable peril. As this intricate two-hander hurtles toward its cathartic climax, you'll be gasping—not just from the suspense, but from sensing the new lifeblood pulsing through the story. In the live wire intensity between Chow's protagonists burns the fierce promise of the arthouse's inheritance of Hong Kong's pulp legacy. Injustice has reigned over the quiet town of Shek O in Hong Kong. Chu Po is a young masked vigilante out to help those in need and kick a baddie’s ass. Just as her social-media popularity increases, so do her frequent injuries, as she learns that her beginner's skills may be no match for those of more experienced fighters. Fate draws her to a local church infested with illicit drug-dealing activities. She soon realizes her connection to that church is more personal than expected as there's a link to her family's past. Should she simply stay in the shadows and pray for a miracle, or put her karate chops to good use? An rejuvenated ode to both THE KARATE KID and the action heroines of Hong Kong's Golden Age, the latest from director Ricky Ko after his award-winning TIME (Fantasia 2021) once again nicely combines nostalgia and modernity with a potent mix of martial arts, humour, sweetness, and compelling characters, OUT OF THE SHADOW offers a guaranteed good time, a reminder of why we love HK movies so much in the first place. Starring several rising stars from Hong Kong, including two actors reunited after Fantasia favourite PORT OF CALL (2015), OUT OF THE SHADOW is fresh off several Asian festivals, and makes its first stopover in the West at Fantasia before it hits its home territory this fall. – King-Wei Chu [ OASKA ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL 2024 ] Chu Po is a sprightly teenage girl with a strong sense of justice but her mother, Tao Kuen Ying, would rather they keep a low profile in the fishing town of Tai O. However, people are in need and Po decides to take action after learning a little karate. This is when Tao reveals a secret crime-fighting history of her own. Ricky KO, director of Time (2021, OAFF2022), delivers a playful vigilante film, complete with laughs, fighting, Cantonese humour, and a touch of family drama unfold in the beautiful setting of Tai O. Despite the humour, the message has some moral messages: that one must do the right thing, help others and also know when to seek help. In this lost country backwater of mountains and vegetable fields, factories still manufacture soy sauce in century old clay pots; Kenny hand makes concrete spacers that hold up some of the world's longest suspension bridges. Cha Guo shines light on the lives of the villagers, craftsmen, farmers and business owners who make up this local village's close-knit community. The people’s philosophy and signature are their resilience and their dedication. They embody "Made in Hong Kong" over generations. Cha Guo celebrates the heroes of Hong Kong and the fabric of what makes it and its people synonymous with warmth and the ubiquitous "can do" attitude. The title Cha Guo embodies the many narratives that connect older generations to the younger through the sharing of something savory and heart-warming. Cha guo is a homemade Chinese tea cake traditionally shared at family gatherings and celebrations. It's mostly empty, especially because, as his landlord points out, kids play games on their phones nowadays. He decides to participate in the Hong Kong One Shot Esports tournament and hopefully win the grand-prize money to save his business. To qualify, he needs to be part of a team, so he recruits Solo, a recently fired esports player facing a decline in his career; Fay, who started working at Tai’s Internet cafe after not lasting long at her previous jobs; and former movie star Octo, who plays games with his elderly wife to help her exercise her brain and fight the degeneration process. Together, they call themselves Happy Hour, and they'll combine their strengths in gaming to win this fierce competition. It ain't over till it's game over! Calling all gamers! Are you ready for an absurdly fun ride?! Grab your controllers, because GOOD GAME is the ultimate gaming-movie experience on the big screen. With an exciting mix of badass action and the first-person-shooter perspective of HARDCORE HENRY, it's a total blast! Opening September 18 2025 [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] On the eve of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in 1945, in a desperate attempt to reverse their inevitable defeat, the Japanese Unit 731, which invaded China, secretly conducted inhumane research on biological warfare in the name of "water supply and epidemic prevention" in the Pingfang district of Harbin. They extensively captured civilians for live human experimentation. Vendor Wang Yongzhang and others were forcibly taken to a "special prison." The Japanese military deceived them with the false promise that "cooperating with health checks and epidemic prevention research would earn them freedom," subjecting them to extreme tortures such as frostbite experiments, poison gas tests, and live dissections... Through the perspective of civilians, the film exposes the Japanese military's atrocities against humanity and showcases the unyielding resistance spirit of the Chinese people in desperate situations. It aims to make the world remember history, never forget national humiliation, and defend peace. THE SHADOWS EDGE Rating : IIB Length : 141 mins. Their mission: to track down the elusive "Wolf King," Fu Longsheng, the mastermind behind the heist. As the police close in, the thieves spring a trap of their own.
