MISCELLANEOUS * (2025/07/09) "Diamond Song King" Jimmy Lin Chong died in Taipei on July 7th at the age of 92. Lin Chong's gold son Wu Tai Sheng revealed that Lin Chong passed away peacefully at the Taipei Tri-Services General Hospital due to infection with aspiration pneumonia combined with septic shock and multiple organ failure. Lin Chong was plagued by illness in his later years. Suffered from prostate cancer in 2011, he successfully fought cancer and shared his own experience to encourage those on the same journey. He even insisted on performing and working, "Since I can still laugh and sing, then I will continue to perform so that the audience can see vitality and hope." Lin Chong was admitted to the hospital for surgery in 2021 due to a blocked artery in his left foot. He suffered massive bleeding and went into shock, returning from the brink of death. Last year he suffered two falls. After his hip replacement surgery he became wheel chair bound. He held his 92nd birthday party earlier this year, and he was still able to stand up and sing on stage with assistance. His perseverance was amazing. He made his last public appearance in May this year at the "Sapphire Cabaret" concert. With a silver diamond cane in the audience, he said, "I am not here to sing, but to reminisce about youth." Producer Liu Kuo Wei said that his friend Lin Chong often said that "I hope to fall down on the stage", revealing that Lin Chong still has a wish to visit Japan and Hong Kong to record his past acting career. Now his last wish would be difficult to fulfill. Lin Chong was popular in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan in the 1960s. Studied in Japan, he became a rising Chinese star in the "Takarazuka Revue" troupe and became an overnight success with the musical HONG Kong. In 1967 he represented Taiwan in the first Asian Singing Grand Contest in Seoul, South Korea and won the championship. He then moved to Hong Kong to develop, where he performed in Hong Kong nightclubs and was very popular. Lin Chong signed a contract with Shaw Brothers in 1968 and served as the leading actor in the movies THE SINGING THIEF (DAI DOH GOR WONG), THE SINGING ESCORT (CHING CHUNG MAN SHUI) and TROPICANA INTERLUDE (YEH LUM CHUN LUEN), from which he became popular all over Southeast Asia. The song DIAMOND from THE SINGING THIEF became his representative work and won him the title of "Diamond Song King". * (2025/07/09) Tommy Chu Pak Hong recently attended the Bucheon Film Festival in South Korea with director Anselm Chan Mo Yin for the Emperor Motion Picture THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK), and the pre-sales of the two meetings were sold out, Chu Pak Hong deliberately learned a few simple Korean words to communicate. He joked, "My Korean isn't bad, which would probably be a plus this time when meeting with fans!" Best Actress Michelle Wai Sze Ng a did not come along this time, but Chu Pak Hong also shared the production details of the "brother and sister". They hoped to bring new works to the event next time; he also revealed that he ran into Lee Byung-hun once, but unfortunately he did not ask for a photo. * (2025/07/08) The Chong Keat Aun directed and written film PAVANE FOR AN INFANT (YIU NAM FAN SAI) tells the story of a 24-hour abandoned baby shelter in Kuala Lumpur, where female volunteers work day and night to care for them. Chong Keat Aun pointed out that he chose the "Abandoned Baby Cabin" as the subject because the investor wanted to shoot something about social issues, and few knew about the "Abandoned Baby Cabin" in Malaysia. In addition the number of abandoned babies has increased after the pandemic, so he decided to shoot this subject. Chong Keat Aun collected information before starting production. Because protecting the data provider and the interviewees was necessary, including students who were volunteers in the "abandoned baby cabin" and the prototype character of Liew Chi Yu's role in the film, all the information had to be kept confidential. Thus they could only watch from a distance. Liew Chi Yu listened to the obstetrician and gynecologist explain the process of cutting the umbilical cord, the correct way to hold a baby and changing diapers for the role before hand. She realized that she had a talent for holding a baby. "My sister is six years younger than me, when she was little I carried her all day long. In addition I carry the cat like a baby all the time. When I can carry a baby with one hand while doing something else with the other hand." Acting with children was the most difficult, but Liew Chi Yu said with a smile that the baby who participated in the film cried at the right time. In one scene the dialogue was very long and the visual needed the baby to be asleep. The baby automatically fell asleep after crying for a while. She heard from her co-star Pearlly Chua that the baby could sense the energy of people. Perhaps the baby felt that she would not hurt it so it did not cry. Liew Chi Yu pointed out that many lucky things occurred during the shoot. A black cat suddenly entered a shot and made the picture even richer, and while shooting in the rainy season the weather was beautiful. * (2025/07/07) MIRROR members Anson Kong Yip Sang (AK), ANSONBEAN (Chan Ngai Sun), Rachel Leung Yung Ting, Patrick Tam Yiu Man and Serene Lim (Lam Suen Yu) attended the production start ceremony of Herman Yau Lai To's film WE'RE NOTHING AT ALL (NGOR MOON BUT SI SUP MOR) yesterday. AK and ANSONBEAN appeared with all new image. The former revealed that he cut his hair short and tossed away his "idol baggage". He even scared his MIRROR brothers, who asked what happened to his head. The two refused to reveal their relationship in the film, AK said, "We play partners, men with men or women would definitely have feelings. There are many kinds of love, you can't define everything. As for any intimate scene, everyone would know when it is released. I hope to perform well in the entire film." Would he be able to accept a man-to-man kissing scene? He said, "Since I took this job, as long as the plot is reasonable I wouldn't mind. I have been in kiss scenes with female co-stars before. I am not afraid with a guy or a girl. I would only play the role on the script. Instead I feel honored to have the man-to-man opportunities, which would be very rare in life." MIRROR sang with Eason Chan Yik Shun at the concert the night before. AK said that his group mates were happy, and to be on the same stage with their idol felt like a dream. During the rehearsal, he even remembered their names, "I was so high that I was flying in the sky, I went crazy." He said that he has taken a photo with Chan Yik Shun when he was a concert dancer for the first time more than 10 years ago, and this time the MIRROR members took turns to take photos with him alone. He joked that they were shameless as they were getting in his way. AK consoled Keung To who fell into the sea earlier. As for Anson Lo Hon Ting who danced on stage after surgery, he said, "Everyone is OK! No one is in trouble, MIRROR is safe and healthy." ANSONBEAN revealed that at the director's request, he and AK actively prepared to deal with the nude scenes that might be needed. He dropped from 76 KG to 67 KG, and he strongly tossed away his idol baggage when he took the role. He announced earlier that he would temporarily leave the entertainment industry due to mental health and mental state problems, and ANSONBEAN said that he has recovered and returned to work. "I didn't think that it would pass so quickly and suddenly, after awhile I thought things through. The most important thing is I really like to perform. No matter how lost I get, I want to cherish every opportunity. I didn't see a doctor, but I did use a mental health app for help. Thank you to my girlfriend (Jaime) Cheung Tin Wing for her support, companionship and encouragement." Yau Lai To and Tam Yiu Man have cooperated many times, and this time he arranged for him to play a forensic expert who investigated the case. The film industry has fallen into its winter, Yau Lai To said, "I have been in the industry for 40 years, this winter hasn't been the coldest. The eras of counterfeit videos, financial turmoil, Internet stock bubble burst, SARS, the atmosphere was even worse than now. The closure of theaters one after another of course has an impact, and it is sad to see. It is really difficult to find investors to start production, but it has never been easy for me." Malaysian Lam Suen Yu has been filming dramas and movies in Hong Kong, would she want to go back to TVB to make dramas? She said that she wanted to try any job in this market. Earlier she publicized a photo with her stage actor boyfriend CK Liu (Lau Chun Kin), and Lam Suen Yu said that her relationship was stable and happy. * (2025/07/06) Nancy Sit Ka Yin (Sister Ka Yin) yesterday went to Metro Radio for her program with guests Crystal Fung Ying Ying, Hilary Chong Tsz Shuen and Luk Ho Ming. When talking about Chow Chung and Suet Nei, Sister Ka Yin could not help but break down. She met Chow Chung, Suet Nei and Tang Chia (Tong Kai) in the Cantonese film era of the last century, and had great friendship. Losing 3 good friends she grew up with in a short period of time, Sister Ka Yin could not help but be broken hearted and cry. She said sadly that Brother Chow Chung is a Mr. Nice Guy. He had many film and television works in the entertainment industry. Many teams have always wanted to cooperate with Brother Chow Chung, but because of his wife's illness, Chow Chung chose not to work on any more drama and concentrate on taking care of his wife at home. Of course she was very sad about Brother Chow Chung's passing. After all, everyone was older, and any party in the world would come to an end eventually. She sent her condolences to his family. For Tong Kai and Suet Nei leaving one after another within two weeks, Sister Ka Yin could not help but sigh. She lamented that when she learned the unfortunate news of Brother Kai, she immediately verified it and broke down at home. She even said that only after Brother Kai's passing did she learn about Sister Suet Nei's health issue, because when everyone had dinner over a year ago they did not say anything. Sister Ka Yin said sadly and tearfully, "When Brother Kai left like this, I was very sad. We have worked together for so long. I was worried about Sister Suet Nei and wanted to visit, but I couldn't find anyone to contact." Sister Ka Yin said that because Brother Kai was a martial art coordinator, she contacted Chin Kar Lok of the Stuntmen Association and received the news that the funeral would be held on July 14. However she was not in Hong Kong that day. She learned that the couple's funerals would be held together, which she believed was what the two wanted. Sister Ka Yin said, "They are very affectionate, Brother Kai and Sister Suet Nei became acquainted because of filming. Brother Kai was shy and sincere, Sister Suet Nei was cheerful. The two complemented each other and were affectionate. Sister Suet Nei was a popular lead actress at the time, and she gave up her acting career to marry Brother Kai for love. Brother Kai loved Sister Suet Nei very much, even waited for her until late at night during filming and prepared food for her. Brother Kai was very hardworking, attentive, and friendly to colleagues on the set, and everyone deeply respected him. Of course I couldn't bear it because we all grew up together, but it was even more rare to have a couple who loved and supported each other so much. They went to heaven together. I wished them a safe journey and continue their love." * (2025/07/05) The husband of veteran artist Suet Nei, Tang Chia (Tong Kai) fell to his death on the 23rd of last month. Less than two weeks later, Suet Nei also died of pancreatic cancer the day before yesterday. Her family issued an obituary yesterday. "Our beloved Mr. Tang Chia (originally named Wong Tong) passed away on June 23 at the age of 88. Mr. Tang Chia's wife, Ms. Suet Nei (originally named Lee Chiu Shun), passed away at the hospital on July 3 at the age of 78 due to pancreatic cancer." A joint funeral would be held for them and the wake would begin on July 14th. Suet Nei was active as a famous Cantonese film female martial art star in the 60s and 70s. Her representative works included THE DARK HEROINE MU LANHUA in 1966, THE SNOWFLAKE SWORDS (SUET FA SUN GIM) and PARAGON OF SWORD AND KNIFE (TIN GIM JUET DOH). She retired after marrying Tang Chia (Tong Kai) in 1969 and immigrated to Canada. They fell in love while on the set of THE DARK HEROINE MU LANHUA and Suet Nei was the one who took the initiative to pursue him, wed in 1969 due to her pregnancy and had two sons. She made a comeback in 1997 and joined TVB, playing Aunt Mei in SECRET OF THE HEART (TIN DEI HO CHING), Black Rose in OLD TIME BUDDY -- TO CATCH THIEF (LAN HING LAN DAI JI SUN TAM LEE KEI), Lee Bik Chun in AT THE THRESHOLD OF AN ERA (CHONG SAI GEI) and left a deep impression with all of them. In 2013 Suet Nei received the TVB "Outstanding Actor Award", but rarely appeared in public after 2020 when she announced her retirement. The drama STORY OF ZOM-B (SIK NO SONG B) became her farewell work. Suet Nei and Tong Kai were married for 56 years. She once said that she was fortunate to have a husband who tolerated her, and Tong Kai was also known as "the tag-a-long husband". The two became a recognized model couple in the circle. Suet Nei due to hereditary otosclerosis was losing her ability to hear, so Tong Kai was by her side all the time to be her "human hearing aid" to translate and communicate with in public. Suet Nei attended a gathering with her husband in August last year and was in okay condition at the time, but reportedly she has been hospitalized for pancreatic cancer for a long time in recent years. * (2025/07/05) Renci Yeung Sze Wing has been in the industry for nearly 10 years. Although she has made dramas before, in recent years she has turned to making movies. She admitted that she felt quite comfortable and enjoyed her own space behind the camera on the set. She also revealed that she was shy by nature, and the word "actor" never appeared in her childhood dream. Yeung Sze Wing played a wayward girl in the recently released movie BEHIND THE SHADOWS (SI GA JING TAM), hanging around mobsters. She revealed that she played with the feelings of several guys purely for fun and enjoyed the feeling of being called "Ah Soh". It was also the first time she played such a "promiscuous" role. She revealed that the scene at the end of the film was the most memorable. "My hands and feet were tied up, like a spring roll I couldn't move. I was in the water to shoot a struggle scene. (Dangerous?) Yes, Boss Koo (Louis Koo Tin Lok) and Liu Kuan Ting were both present, immediately scooping me back up after finishing each shoot." Was she very nervous about working with Koo Tin Lok? Renci bluntly said no, and praised him as a very friendly elder. Instead of preaching, he would discuss with everyone in the form of sharing. He would even chat with everyone when he was not in a scene, which made everyone feel very comfortable. Renci is about to be in the industry for 10 years, and feels that this has been a very short period of time in her life. "No one knows what would happen tomorrow. If I see it as a lifelong career, actually now is the very preliminary and exploratory stages. In particular acting has no endpoint, it's not like getting the Lifetime Achievement Award is the end. Actually it just keeps on rolling." Although she works in front of the camera now, Renci is shy by nature. The word "actor" never appeared in her childhood dreams. "I love film because I can hide behind the camera and do what I want to do on the set. I have a lot of creative space. I only need to face one or two cameras, which I feel comfortable with." She laughs and says that she is actually the most afraid of working on variety shows. Once people online commented that she was too silent, and even counted how many words she has said in the show. She also described her personality as extreme. "I can go without talking all day, but in familiar circles I can be so noisy that people will tell me to be quiet." * (2025/07/05) Veteran artist Chow Chung died of pneumonia yesterday at the age of 92. Devoted his life to acting, he has performed in many popular works such as THE TEARS OF AH CHAN (FUI MING NUI YI), TWIN SWORDS (LUNG FUNG GIM) and PASSIONATELY IN LOVE (CHI CHING YI NUI). He joined TVB in 1998 and has played the most popular roles in AT THE THRESHOLD OF AN ERA (CHONG SAI GEI II TIN DEI YAU CHING) as the good father Yip Hau Kun and the doting grandpa Chung Fan Tat in MOONLIGHT RESONANCE (TONG SUM FUNG BO ji GA HO YUET YUEN). He even with the role of Chung Fan Tat received a nomination in the TVB Awards Best Supporting Actor category. In 2016 he was awarded the TVB Lifetime Achievement award. His scene in the film LOVE UNDERCOVER (SUN JAT SI MUI) with Benz Hui Siu Hung when he asked, "How do you to write the word Sir in Fong Chung Sir?" even became a classic. In 2020 he officially retired when his TVB contract ended and the drama SINISTER BEINGS (YIK TIN KEI ONG) became his final work. His final public appearance was at last year's Hong Kong Performing Artists Guild spring banquet to receive the "Outstanding Performing Artist Award". At the time he was in good spirit. Month later he shot a video with good friend Cheung Kwok Keung and told dad jokes. In the business for almost 70 years, Chow Chung performed in many classic works and was even known as "TVB's official Grandpa". Originally named Sin Kam Wing, Chow Chung's stage name came from a character in the famous play THUNDERSTORM. Born in the Year of the Horse, he chose the character Chung with the character horse in it. Before entering the business Chow Chung worked as a sales clerk. In 1955 he caught the eyes of producer Wong Hing Wah, through his introduction he applied for a job as an actor. When Chow Chung first started he thought about terminating the contract because he was not used to it. Later he joined Sun Luen Film Company again under the introduction of Wong Hing Wah and had more opportunities with elders. Since then his self confidence greatly increased. Chow Sing was already the lead actor in his film debut BROKEN ZITHER BOWER (SHUI KAM LAU). Starting in the 1960s, he became the Kong Ngee Co.' feature actor and starred in numerous Cantonese films like THE TEARS OF AH-CHAN, TWINS SWORDS and PASSIONATELY IN LOVE. When Cantonese films declined, Chow Chung bid a temporary farewell to the film industry and switched to become a manager at a theater and once worked at a duty free shop. Chow Chung had a deep relationship with his wife Chan Yee Wah. During his wife's fight against cancer, he gave up all work and performances to concentrate on accompanying his wife on her last journey. Having collaborated with Chow Chung on SINISTER BEINGS, television best actor Ruco Chan Chin Pang and best actress Rosina Lam Ha Mei both felt sad. Chan Chin Pang said, "He has been with us in his acting career and I will always remember his laughter. He is very talkative and cheerful, and he encourages me all the time." Lam Ha Mei said, "He is a very kind and very professional elder, and he is great to everyone." A good friend of Chow Chung, Eric Chung Chi Kwong almost visited him everyday at the hospital, He even revealed that he even visited the day before yesterday. Chow Chung's family revealed that Chow Chung was hospitalized for a month due to the novel coronavirus. When he visited him the night before, he needed to wear an oxygen mask and his condition was worse than before. Yesterday afternoon he received the bad new from Chow Chung's son. He praised Uncle Chung for being cultured, humble and polite. His family was with him all the while he was at the hospital. Chung Chi Kwong expressed that he would greatly miss Chow Chung. Another frequent visitor Cheung Kwok Keung also revealed that when he visited two nights ago, he thought that his condition was rough. Yesterday he learned that he passed peacefully. "He was like a treasure, I got to spend over a decade with him." He also praised Uncle Chung as a responsible elder. His children constantly praised him for raising the entire family, and that he loved his wife very much. A friend of 70 years, Bowie Wu Fung admitted that he was very heartbroken. He managed to see him for the last time at the hospital, and Chow Chung was aware; Helena Law Lan was surprised to hear the news, admitting that she has not seen him in a very long time. Lately she has received many unhappy news and she wished everyone to take care; Nancy Sit Ka Yin lamented that lately many old friends and elders passed away. * (2025/07/04) Hong Kong Box Office Co., Ltd. recently summarized the box office results in the first half of 2025, the total revenue of Chinese and foreign films is about HK$ 560 million; down about 16.26% from HK$ 670 million in the same period last year. A total of 21 Hong Kong-made films were released in the first half of the year with average results, the top 3 are THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET), PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG) and HIT N FUN (LUM SI KUET DAU), the box office of which were all more than HK$ 13 million. The fourth place MY BEST BET (CHEUNG DOH BIT YANG) received about HK$ 11 million, and the fifth place VITAL SIGNS (SUNG YUEN TOH JUNG) received about HK$ 9.4 million. As of the day before yesterday (July 2), Hong Kong-made films that were still in release included the Louis Koo Tin Lok starred BEHIND THE SHADOWS (SI GA JING TAM) and Anthony Wong Chau Sung's VALLEY IN THE SHADOW OF DEATH (BUT SEH JI JUI), which received HK$ 4.4 million and HK$ 4.5 million respectively, the Patrick Tam Yiu Man and Locker Lam Ka Hei starred FIGHT FOR TOMORROW (PING MING SAM LONG) only received HK$ 770,000, and the Fish Liew Chi Yu starred PAVANE FOR AN INFANT only received HK$ 96,000 after 14 days in release. Regarding the continuing deterioration of the film market, the spokesman of the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers Tin Kai Man (Tin Gai) said that the good days have already passed as expected. Of course a miracle in the movie winter would be good, but under such a bad atmosphere at present good results would be difficult to achieve. "I am not worried that it's a lie, I am worried that it's futile. We can only take one step at a time." When would the winter period pass? He said, "No one can answer that, hoping for a 'return to warmth' next year. This month two non-government-funded films have started filming, namely the (Herman) Yau Lai To directed NGOR MOON BUT SI SUP MOR, and the other is an Edko Films investment. Now we have to work hard to create high- quality products and rebuild the confidence of the audience in the cinema." Tin Gai thinks that the box office performance in the summer vacation should be better, with foreign films SUPERMAN and FANTASTIC 4: FIRST STEP, as well as animated films SMURFS, DORAEMON: NOBITA'S ART WORLD TALES, THE BAD GUYS 2 and CRAYON SHIN-CHAN THE MOVIE: SUPER HOT! THE SPICY KASUKABE DANCERS will bring the atmosphere to go to the movies. As for Hong Kong films, so far two films to be released are known, including ATONEMENT (AH LUNG), a movie he produced and Ronald Cheng Chung King directed and starred in; and the Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Gigi Lei starred MY FIRST OF MAY (MO MING JI). He said that ATONEMENT was previously scheduled to be released at Golden Harvest Cinemas, but now that the entire Golden Harvest Cinema chain has completely closed the film will renegotiate for cinema releases. He said, "Fortunately others have taken over some Golden Harvest cinemas, which is also good news." Has the industry discussed about any way to bail out the market in view of the future of the film industry? He said, "Everyone have been talking, but there is no plan. The poor atmosphere recently would affect investors' desire to start productions, as everyone is holding a wait-and-see attitude." * (2025/07/03) The Hong Kong film industry's deep freeze grows more and more severely. Among the Hong Kong films released in the first half of the year, only 4 exceeded HK$ 10 million at the box office -- a strong comtrast from last year when two movies exceeded HK$ 100 million. The Hong Kong Box Office Limited announced yesterday (2nd) that in the first half of 2025 (from January 1 to June 30), the total number of the first run film releases of Hong Kong and Macao is 140, of which 21 are Hong Kong films and 119 are non-Hong Kong films with a total box office revenue of HK$563,519,626. Compared with HK$672,970,785 in the same period last year, the box office fell by about 16.26%. The Chung Suet Ying and Neo Yau Hawk Sau starred THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET) exceeded HK$ 13.35 million to top the Hong Kong film box office; Nick Cheung Ka Fai's PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG) with HK$ 13.28 million came in second. Mainland animation NEZHA 2 topped the non Hong Kong film box office with over HK$ 63.91 million, more than the top five highest grossing Hong Kong films' total box office revenue of HK$ 61.23 million in the first half of the year TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) and THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) last year exceeded HK$ 100 million at the box office last year. The brilliant performance seemingly gave the film industry a glimpse of daylight, but as the fever subsided, the Hong Kong film releases that followed could not continue the momentum as their box office performance was mediocre. In addition as the cinema closing wave continued and the drastic decline in Hong Kong film productions, the future of the Hong Kong film industry has become concerning. According to the Hong Kong Box office Co. Ltd., in the first half of the year 2025 (January 1st to June 30th) the Hong Kong and Macau total first run film releases are 140, 12 are Hong Kong films and 119 are non Hong Kong films. The total box office revenue is HK$ 563,519,626. In comparison to HK$ 672,970,785 of the same period last year, the box office decline is around 16.26%. The five highest-grossing Hong Kong films in the first half of the year were the Chung Suet Ying and Neo Yau Hawk Sau starred THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET), as of June 30th it has made HK$13,551,553. Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Fala Chen in PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG) comes in second with HK$13,283,319. In third is the Louis Koo Tin Lok and Gigi Leung Wing Kei starred Lunar New Year film HIT N FUN (LUM SI KUET DAU) with HK$13,073,651. Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin and Louis Cheung Kai Chung's Lunar New Year film MY SURE BET (CHEUNG DOH BIT YANG) with HK$11,872,610 comes in fourth. In fifth is the Louis Koo Tin Lok and Neo Yau Hawk Sau starred VITAL SIGNS (SHOOK YUEN TOH JUNG) with HK$9,455,456 currently. Among the five movie, Koo Tin Lok and Yau Hawk Sau have two each. As for the five highest-grossing non-Hong Kong films in the first half of the year, they were the still in release mainland animated film NEZHA 2 with HK$63,919,788 in first place. From second to fifth are Tom Cruise's MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE -- FINAL RECKONING with HK$52,205,880, the Disney animation based live action film LILO AND STITCH with HK$29,121,892, the Marvel superhero film THUNDERBOLTS* with HK$23,932,985 and the video game based THE MINECRAFT MOVIE with HK$21,975,780. It is worth noting that the total box office revenue of the five Hong Kong-made films is HK$61,236,589, which is not as good as the still in release NEZHA 2. The Hong Kong Box Office Co. Ltd mentioned that the summer vacation just starred, many high-quality Chinese and foreign blockbusters and suitable movies for families are being released and only the cinema can bring the audience an incomparable viewing experience. Hopefully the audience will go to the movies, and that the summer vacation schedule and the second half of the year would be able to reverse the decline in the first half of the year. * (2025/07/03) After Philip Wan Lung earlier confessed his love for Renee Lee Man Ying, "otaku god and goddess" 13 years his junior, he went to the mainland with his good brothers Andy Tien (On Chi Kit), Justin Cheung Kin Sing and others to start filming the movie NO JAP (RAGE ATTACK). With success in bothlove and work, he recently completed the movie and the actors met for dinner to celebrate. Lee Man Ying was also seen online to be in attendance as the "girlfriend". Subsequently Ng Wan Lung also posted a photo with On Chi Kit and Ng Kin Ho (Vanness Wu) in a show of brotherhood. In addition Taiwan heavenly king Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun) performed in Kai Tak earlier, Lee Man Ying and Ng Wan Lung respectively posted their photos on social networks. Ng Wan Lung also tagged Ng Kin Ho's account to thank him, seemingly he did not hesitate to call in favors to get tickets and please his girlfriend. He seriously loved sweetly. Opening June 30 2025 [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] "Is cancer a gift?" "What? This question makes people very uneasy..." The forte of Bowie Tsang, the protagonist of this film, lies in "communication." In addition to giving lectures and online lessons and publishing books, she is an experienced television presenter and an award ceremony host active in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China. Since 2018, as many of her family and friends and even the doctor she trusts the most have been diagnosed with cancer, Bowie cannot stop herself asking a profound question, "Cancer, how on earth should I face you?" Of course, Bowie knows cancer cells are the cells of your own body, and they are just like your own family, but she cannot understand why your own family would want to take your life. Doesn't it sound so contradictory? Eventually, this question led her to a six-year-long search for the answers, and she documented several moving stories in her Vlog along the way. Apart from the conventional Western medical treatment, Bowie experienced and explored different fields, including the scientization of traditional Chinese medicine, how the Chinese and Western medicine complement each other, the alternative medicine university in Seattle and mind-body integrative medicine. In the end, Bowie gained an understanding from her sister-in-law and received a gift that allowed her to communicate with cancer - medicine for the mind. Shi's legend was forged through acts of brazen daring, like his infiltration of an enemy stronghold to rescue the wrongly imprisoned Lu Jun-yi from certain execution. Patrick Tam, in a performance of searing intensity, breathes life into a character confronted with the ghosts of his outlaw past, and clinging to hope for rebuilding his fractured life and finding new purpose. Chan, the acclaimed writer of the "Ip Man" franchise, infuses the film with a sense of hard- bitten optimism, suggesting that even in the darkest of times, an indomitable spirit can light the path to a better tomorrow. Opening June 21 2025 [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] "I will come to see you again." In 2014, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai made a heartfelt promise in Art School Musical. A decade later, Edward Lam Dance Theatre presented a work-in-progress sequel, Art School Musical 2.0: The Visit. This performance features the original seven cast members—Wang Hung-yuan, Lu Chia-hsin, Margaret Cheung, Huang Ren- jie, Chao Yi-lan, Rebecca Yip, and Jordan Cheng—alongside three new actors, Oscar Chuk, Chan Ying-ying, and Gabriel Lo. The show thoughtfully combines elements of a 'concert' and a 'reunion,' shifting focus from the dramatic aspects of the original musical to enhance its musicality. It offers fresh interpretations of ten songs from Art School Musical. Set in a youthful art museum that exists in memory rather than on stage, Liang and Zhu return years later to honor their promise, exploring themes of love, life, and the future. Shot in JUNE 2024, Art School Musical 2.0: The Visit (Work-in- progress) (On Screen) is presented as a visual representation of the stage production, filmed from various angles and edited for the cinema, aiming to recreate this romantic and poignant musical experience on the big screen. Opening June 19 2025 [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] The story begins with the life stream of a murder. Facing the camera, the masked murderer announces, "You're the next one!" The seemingly true video suddenly becomes the real life in the far distance. With the life stream and human organ trafficking issues, the film depicts the cold-bloodiness of the society caused by objectification. Although the life stream is brutal, the blood and tear and the self-willed paternal love of the avenger are hidden behind the story. He fights against the criminal network consisting of money, power and violence. To the eyes of some powerful people, human beings are seen as objects, existing only for them to earn huge profits by trafficking organs. Those human beings are called "organ donors". The rhythm of the film is fast. The story is very entertaining with continuous twists and turns. The protagonist of the film is Zhang Qi-mao played by Joseph Zhang, whose daughter went missing when she was three months old. It is suspected that she was stolen by a child abduction group. His wife killed herself because of her guiltiness. He went into investigation but was framed and put into jail. When he got out, he found that her daughter has been stolen by a human organ trafficking group and become an organ donor whose heart was taken away. He has been in a rage and begun to use violence to seek a revenge. However, he realizes that her daughter might be alive. Therefore, he tries to rescue her from the huge criminal group. Lai Sum, Fatimah, Kam, and Nurul, committed employees of a Kuala Lumpur baby hatch, navigate a maze of societal opposition to empower women from diverse backgrounds grappling with the complex notion of bodily autonomy. As Ramadan ends, a dire situation unfolds when Siew Man, an underage girl, teeters on the brink of a life-altering decision – abortion. Lai Sum endeavours to rescue her from the depths of despair. However, her well-intentioned intervention unwittingly entangles them both in the perilous currents of theocratic and patriarchal forces, threatening to dictate their fates. [ THE 49th HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] Set around the end of Ramadan in Kuala Lumpur, the latest film from Chong Keat-aun follows Lai Sum, a social worker at a local baby hatch, as she endeavours to help Siew Man, an underage girl struggling with the decision to abort. Injustice has reigned over the quiet town of Shek O in Hong Kong. Chu Po is a young masked vigilante out to help those in need and kick a baddie’s ass. Just as her social-media popularity increases, so do her frequent injuries, as she learns that her beginner's skills may be no match for those of more experienced fighters. Fate draws her to a local church infested with illicit drug-dealing activities. She soon realizes her connection to that church is more personal than expected as there's a link to her family's past. Should she simply stay in the shadows and pray for a miracle, or put her karate chops to good use? An rejuvenated ode to both THE KARATE KID and the action heroines of Hong Kong's Golden Age, the latest from director Ricky Ko after his award-winning TIME (Fantasia 2021) once again nicely combines nostalgia and modernity with a potent mix of martial arts, humour, sweetness, and compelling characters, OUT OF THE SHADOW offers a guaranteed good time, a reminder of why we love HK movies so much in the first place. Starring several rising stars from Hong Kong, including two actors reunited after Fantasia favourite PORT OF CALL (2015), OUT OF THE SHADOW is fresh off several Asian festivals, and makes its first stopover in the West at Fantasia before it hits its home territory this fall. – King-Wei Chu [ OASKA ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL 2024 ] Chu Po is a sprightly teenage girl with a strong sense of justice but her mother, Tao Kuen Ying, would rather they keep a low profile in the fishing town of Tai O. One day, he received a "special" commission: the owner of the travel agency had asked him to investigate his girlfriend, who happened to be Au Yeung Wai Yip’s wife. Being a private detective, he is used to looking for the truth with cold eyes for his clients, but he finds it difficult to face the truth about their own marriage. Unable to withstand his inner torment, Au Yeung Wai Yip gave up on another ongoing case - a client's search for his missing fiancée - and went to the hotel to catch the adulterer. Unfortunately, the marriage could not be saved in the end, and the client's fiancée was killed after he left. A seemingly ordinary affair turned into a murderous incident! The police officer in charge of investigating this murder case, Chan Heong Meng, who is seemingly a good policeman and husband, discovers that more than one woman has been killed in a similar manner—the perpetrator is very likely a serial killer. After handing over the clues to Chan Heong Meng, Au Yeung Wai Yip found himself unknowingly entangled in an intricate web of mystery, with danger looming through the thick fog. To prevent the killer from striking the next target, he must rely on his professional detective instincts to turn the tide. HI FIVE Rating : IIA Length : 120 mins. A boy who killed his daughter is released from prison. Torn between vengeance and God's forgiveness... [ 49th HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] 'Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.' Pastor Leung, who preaches God's forgiveness, finds himself in a dire situation when his church gives shelter to a young man who caused the death of his beloved daughter. Torn between his wish to avenge his daughter, his wife's anger and his principles as a pastor, he struggles to submit to God or the Devil when an opportunity of retribution presents itself. Impressive as ever, Anthony Wong acutely leads the story with a restrained yet intense performance, stretching the questions of faith, hope, and humanity to their extremes. ------------ For the week starting July 5 2025 (Week 27) VIUTV CHILL CLUB CHART 5 WHITE NIGHT Can : Bak Hung Yeh Gin Lee Hung Ngai https://youtu.be/jVCRH95h8G4 4 HEAR THE FEAR Can : Mo Dan Fei Lui Cath Wong Yin https://youtu.be/EurCGQVR8Zw 3 THE TIME IS ALWAYS NOW Can : Nei Doh Yau Gum Yut Anson Lo Hon Ting https://youtu.be/8CSDHJKznjQ 2 GAME ON Can : Seung Cheung Yanting Chau https://youtu.be/8oXARqAdBx4 1 ON A SUNNYDAY Keung To https://youtu.be/5v3SL8DTUKc TVB JADE SOLID GOLD 5 APRIL WHISPERS Can : Sei Yuet Muk Yu Terence Lam Ka Him https://youtu.be/325j6LVzpYI 4 WHITE NIGHT Can : Bak Hung Yeh Gin Lee Hung Ngai https://youtu.be/jVCRH95h8G4 3 THERE'S ALWAYS A REASON Can : Yut Jai Doh Si Yau Yuen Yun Dik Windy Zhan Tianwen https://youtu.be/-lcdce-bY5o 2 WORK OF ART Can : Ngor Moon Doh Si Ngai Shook Bun Janees Wong Lok Yin https://youtu.be/n9vNPUzPRpg 1 LATE A BIT Can : Yiu Chi Siu Siu Alan Po Chi Lun https://youtu.be/czxzS7ro0DA METRO RADIO HIT DOMESTIC CHART 5 LITTLE SCARS Can : Siu Seung Ba Mischa Ip Hau Lam https://youtu.be/NoZpvDY5rdM 4 IT'S NOTHING...BUT WE ARE EVERYTHING Can : Ngor Moon Sup Mor Doh But Si...But We Are Everything Mayao Ma Tin Yau X waa Wei Ngai Yu Huen https://youtu.be/3Wf7wtlUTyQ 3 THROUGH THE NIGHT Can : Kau Gau Dik Yung Hei Panther Chan Lui https://youtu.be/fFWntYVQ_gg 2 ON A SUNNYDAY Keung To https://youtu.be/5v3SL8DTUKc 1 NEW FANTASY Chantel Yiu Cheuk Fei https://youtu.be/5V-qwWHaEG0 COMMERCIAL RADIO 903 TOP 20 5 SWITCH Jace Chan Hoi Wing https://youtu.be/hBFihlLf610 4 BUT YOU ARE SWEET Can : Dan Nei Yiu Tim Joey Yung Cho Yee https://youtu.be/iuph8PCRbnI 3 NO FULL FRONTAL Can : Yung Bui Jet Cheung Ching Gor Gareth T. https://youtu.be/falq0Gr3rc0 2 50/50 Kay Tse On Kay https://youtu.be/1BNXyZjym7w 1 THE THEMES WE HAD Can : Mo Tai Si Seung Hei Dik Yun Phil Lam Yik Hon https://youtu.be/2e8KF4fvzlM RTHK CHINESE POP CHART 5 DAWN TAUGHT ME Can : Lai Ming Gau Woon Nei Dik Si YUTA https://youtu.be/61Qv3Gpt2Iw 4 4 OF A KIND Can : Chet Si Moon BIG FOUR https://youtu.be/5kAkAKfVQ_c 3 THE SEREDIPIAN Can : Jui Hung Fook Dik Ping Fan Yun Sammy Sum Chun Hin https://youtu.be/iMFVf0Vpk9Y 2 NOT THAT BAD Can : Mei Ji Yu Feanna Wong Suk Man https://youtu.be/yle_TEPpEgE 1 NO FULL FRONTAL Can : Yung Bui Jet Cheung Ching Gor Gareth T. https://youtu.be/falq0Gr3rc0 HUAXIA ORIGINAL GOLD SONG CHART (Week 26) 5 YOUTH TRAVEL TOGETHER Can : Siu Nin Tung Yau Yan An https://youtu.be/AHeO7flOSFM 4 FUTURE DIARY Can : Seh Mei Loi Dik Yut Gei Yoga Lin https://youtu.be/eUsZ_nFKgM8 3 CLOSE ENOUGH Can : Cha But Dor Dut Liu Wowkie Zhang https://youtu.be/oQ7vpFfGDzg 2 THE SONG UNHEARD Can : Ting But Gein Dik Gor Lay Zhang https://youtu.be/zz0WHASn2w4 1 FREQUENT VISITOR Can : Seung Loi Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai) https://youtu.be/OYszWJTytlA ------------ ------------ ------------ THE 24TH NEW YORK ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL July 11-27 2025 https://www.nyaff.org/nyaff25/films ----------- HK Top Ten Central hktopten@hotmail.com http://www.geocities.ws/hktopten | http://hktopten.blogspot.com **************
