DEI YUK) won five awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards the day before yesterday, including Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Original Film Song and Best Original Film Music. Emperor boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing led the fresh out of the oven Best Actress Michelle Wai Sze Nga, Best Supporting Actor Tommy Chu Pak Hong, director Anselm Chan Mou Yin, Best Original Film Song winner Terence Lam Ka Him, Catherine Chau Ka Yee and others to attend the celebration. Best Actor nominee Michael Hui Koon Man did not attend. After the group photo, Wai Sze Nga's doctor husband Chau Chee On was also at the celebration. The media asked the two to take a photo together. Dr. Chau kissed his beloved wife twice, and Wai Sze Nga smiled sweetly and said that it was like a re-enactment of the wedding banquet. Speaking of the award ceremony, Yeung Sau Sing was very moved to see THE LAST DANCE team winning the award. He said frankly, "I am very moved. Of course I hope to have cash and other prizes in business. The movie has won the cash prize, and I want to win more prizes. I am a little disappointed, with one or two awards that we should win but didn't." Because Hui Koon Man did not win Best Actor? He said, "Nothing we can do, the Hong Kong Film Awards has many voters. Some people like it, some people don't. We have to accept the result." Although the film market has been sluggish and getting movies made difficult, Mr. Yeung's enthusiasm for making movies still has not been hindered. He revealed that this year he already has four or five films planned for production this year. Would one of them be with THE LAST DANCE team? He said that would depend on the director Chan Mou Yin's intention, and Director Chan would be in charge of everything. In addition Yeung Sau Sing grabbed Lam Ka Him at the celebration and said that he would recruit him as a singer, composer and actor for his company, a package deal. Lam Ka Him said that he would consider it but because he was afraid that he would be a "negative asset", he hoped that Yeung Sau Sing would think about it clearly. Yeung Sau Sing joked, "It doesn't matter, we are used to it; seven out of ten movies we make definitely lose money. Earlier the Cheung King Hin starred Lunar New Year film also lost money." Yeung Sau Sing also revealed the secret, actually this time Director Chan Mou Yin asked Lam Ka Him to sing the film theme song THE LAST DANCE. Some people in the company objected, "Because Emperor is the largest record company in Hong Kong, it has a large number of singers such as (Nicholas) Tse Ting Fung, (Hins) Cheung King Hin, (Leo) Ku Kui Kei, and (Hacken) Lee Hak Kun. He should look within his own company, why would he ask someone on the outside? I said that I should let the company's singers, but I respect the director's decision because he thought Lam Ka Him was suitable for singing. It was very fair." Yeung Sau Sing kept "sniping" at Lam Ka Him and even said to the press, "If I don't sign him I would be an idiot." Later when he and Chan Mou Yin were interviewed, he again dragged Lam Ka Him into the shot and said, "This silly boy keeps dodging left and right, don't moving around, stand in the middle." Lam Ka Him awkwardly said, "Mr. Yeung, calm down. Why did you nab me again?" Yeung Sau Sing said, "This is the mob, no one is nabbing you." Lam Ka Hei explained that he was only joking about making a movie, "Please don't, I was just joking!" Yeung Sau Sing again said, "We don't joke, we get upset." Chan Mou Yin intervened and said that they would talk later. Wai Sze Nga went from the award ceremony to the celebration. Wai Sze Nga at the celebration hug "Brother" Chu Pak Hong and "Sister Lin" Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Lin) and cried, admitting that her mood still has yet to calm down. She felt everything was happening too fast, and revealed that friends were making fun of her. On the live television broadcast, she was crying in almost every shot. "I didn't know that at the moment the result was announced, the camera caught me taking deep breaths. I really want to watch the re-run." When the award was announced, Dr. Chau in the audience also cried very hard. He said that it was because he saw his wife's efforts being rewarded. Michelle was asked if she would ask for an allowance increase? She joked, "We have only been married for several months, he hasn't started giving one yet!" Did Wai Sze Nga think her husband has been lucky for her? She smiled and replied, "Yes, my husband has been so lucky for me; so I take him with me for anything important, like a 'mascot'." Wai Sze Nga now is lucky in love and career, she said that she was very grateful to the many good people and kind people around her for helping her. She was really happy, but she dare not say that she has become a victory group in life. She would continue to work hard and prepare for the role of the script. "I would keep working hard, after tonight, when I wake up it's a new day. I plan to read new scripts. My husband and I don't have any parenthood plan yet, we can be with or without child, so the award has no effect on us at all." Would she increase her salary after winning the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor? She replied seriously, "I just want to say I don't want to increase the price. I would tell the company not to increase the price. Now not only in the film industry, but also everyone (the entire economic environment) is not easy, I hope to tide over the difficulties together. If the company wants to increase the price, I hope it would only add a small amount. Don't increase the price at the lowest point." Reportedly she has numerous film offers, one of the dramatic films has already been half confirmed and estimated to go into production in the second half of the year. Tomorrow she would attend an event. Would Tommy Chu Pak Hong increase his salary after winning the award? He said probably not, the most important thing as an actor was encountering a good team. In tears throughout the show, Chu Pak Hong was made fun of as having 10 liters of tears. He explained that because he has seen Wai Sze Nga's hard work all along, he was very happy for her winning Best Actress. "That condition was......other people can't see my effort! However I was with Little Sister (Wai Sze Nga) throughout the entire process, I have seen how hard she works, so let's not talk about it anymore!" After that he almost broke down again. When he won Best Supporting Actor, he felt like he has done the ancestors proud and praised every nominee as worthy of winning. "After the award of course I want a raise, but I know the market is depressed. Everything is negotiable, the most important is script, character and team are good. After the award I want to take a day off, properly rest before resuming work." Two nights ago a self proclaimed "Hong Kong Film Awards voter" said online that he received a non blank ballot, which had the Best Sound Design field filled with the TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN team. The fairness of the vote came into question. "I feel heartbroken holding the ballot that belonged to me. I also feel disappointed and afraid of the company I once worked for. Because I received a ballot that has been filled in already, which made me think of many hypothetical theories. I feel bad for this ballot and any of the parties......if it is so easily for others to fill it in, the system is no longer trustworthy." Hong Kong Film Awards Association replied, "This has the highest attention of the Hong Kong Film Awards Board of Directors, we are trying to get an understanding into the matter." Other Hong Kong Film Awards voters said that they have not run into what the person online ran into. The ballot would be directly mailed to their homes and not distributed by the company. * (2025/04/29) The fresh out of the oven Best Actor Sean Lau Ching Wan, Best Supporting Actress Jo Koo (Kok Cho Lam) and Best New Performer Dylan So Man To attended the PAPA Hong Kong Film Awards celebration banquet the night before. Ching Wan was rather sentimental about this year's Hong Kong Film Awards. When he saw director Philip Yung Tsz Kwong moved to tears, he could not help but tell him to stop crying. Which scene was the most touching for him? Ching Wan said, "I was very touched when I saw (Michelle) Wai Sze Nga win the award because I have known her for many years, yet earlier when we worked together we only had one scene. I already realized that she is a girl who works hard and does her best. I am very happy that she has the achievement today, and her words on the stage are real!" As for Ching Wan's fourth Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor, he was still two away from tying Tony Leung Chiu Wai's record. Would he aim for this goal? Ching Wan said, "I really haven't thought that, Wai Jai is already a legend!" The reporter said that he was only two times away from catching up? Ching Wan joked, "But I has been nominated 18 times. Actually it doesn't really matter. In terms of awards, I have never won against any actor. Actually actors should fight side by side and appreciate each other, not about you beat me, I beat you. I don't feel it's like this. For example tonight many actors have performed very well. Everyone is very happy, feeling that now film really has hope." Lau Ching Wan with the film PAPA won his fourth Best Actor. Jo Koo (Kok Cho Lam) and Dylan So Man To with the film respectively received Best Supporting Actress and Best New Performer. The "family of three" attended the celebration with their awards. Lau Ching Wan said that in the past he had fewer opportunities to receive an award with his onscreen "Family". Being able to win with "wife" Kok Cho Lam and "son" So Man To felt very perfect. Lau Ching Wan said that his wife Amy Kwok Oi Ming understood him very well and has not yet planned any special celebration. He joked that normally his wife was responsible for cooking, so he would not have to wait for winning an award to have a feast. Otherwise he definitely would be very thin. Kok Cho Lam upon learning that she won with co-star Lau Ching Wan immediately had a release and relaxed feeling. "Tonight I don't dare to get drunk, because the next day I would have to attend the Udine Far East Film Festival." She praised the award show atmosphere as great, each actor's award would move others to tears, proving that they really had emotions. So Man To could legally drink at his age, but he had exams so he did not. * (2025/04/29) The movie TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) swept up 9 awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards. After the awards ceremony the film team including director Soi Cheang Pou Soi, actors Louis Koo Tin Lok, Raymond Lam Fung, Philip Ng Wan Lung, Fish Ball Girl (Wong Wan Ching), Kenny Wong Tak Bun, Tony Wu Tsz Tung and others attended the celebration and had "Walled City barbecue pork rice" together. Director Cheang admitted that he has never thought that the film would win 9 awards. "We have spent great effort. At least this movie stepped overseas, we don't feel embarrassed. So I really hope that everyone to get the awards that they want to get." He and Koo Tin Lok made the promise together, the film would continue to "fight the best fight". TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN would also return to Hong Kong theaters starting May 1st, the one year anniversary of its release. When asked when he would start filming the sequel, Director Cheang Pou Soi was confident that filming would start soon. Koo Tin Lok said that he should be more careful in production. "We have to make it even better! I want to say something, making a movie before was very tough. The cinematography and special effects cost a lot of money. Today our gang has achieved a feeling to show everyone, why can't we reduce the cost and make a even more entertaining movie. The fight would have to be the best. By reducing the cost a little, can we save a little on the visual?" With special treatment from Koo Tin Lok, "Fish Ball Girl" Wong Wan Ching was also happy to see that the film has won many awards, and also wants the sequel to start filming as soon as possible. Koo Tin Lok proposed to start filming "TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: THE GROWTH OF FISHBALL GIRL". Fish Ball Girl immediately said yes when she heard it. "Since we can make DRAGON THRONE and FINAL CHAPTER, why can't we talk about Fish Ball Girl growing up?" Regarding the film's 9 awards, Koo Tin Lok said, "I don't care, in the end I am very happy." Lam Fung also joked, "Why 9? Because it's a Kowloon Walled City." Koo Tin Lok was sincerely happy that the film won awards, and their efforts were not in vain. Referring to the fact that award presenters Cecilia Choi Sze Wan and Renci Yeung Sze Wing's joke about the movie BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI) as an urban legend, Koo Tin Lok said, "This movie will be released this year, it's not an urban legend." With a part in the film, Lam Fung also said, "Everyone please support us more then." Carina Lau Ka Ling praised Lam Fung as "chok, excellent singer, strong dancer". He said, "Thank you Sister Ka Ling for giving me this nickname. To be able to have a character viewers remember as an actor, I want to thank director Cheang Pou Soi and boss Koo Tin Lok." Was Ng Wan Lung disappointed that he did not win Best Supporting Actor for Wong Gau? He said, "The entire film has performed so well, I am already very happy to be nominated." * (2025/04/28) The 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards was held last night at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) won 9 awards including Best Film and Best Director, with Sean Lau Ching Wan and Michelle Wai Sze Nga winning Best Actor and Best Actress respectively for PAPA and THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK). Director Tsui Hark and filmmaker Shi Nansun received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching Ha) made an appearance to present the award. In addition to the speeches of the winners, the most heard at the awards ceremony was that the filmmakers encouraged each other and cheered for Hong Kong films! Lau Ching Wan defeated many opponents with his superb acting skills in the movie PAPA and won the Best Actor award this year, his fourth. He thanked his family and wife Amy Kwok Oi Ming for their support along the way, and wished for everyone to continue to support Hong Kong film. After Wai Sze Nga won the Best Actress with the film with THE LAST DANCE, the entire team embraced. In particular her on screen brother Tommy Chu Pak Hong even lost it emotionally, and her husband was also teary eyed. She thanked her boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing and the whole team. She also thanked the director for not giving up on her when she gave up. She did not forget to thank her husband either. "Thank you to my family, my husband, you have given me such a safe castle for me to relax and chase dreams. Thank you boss Yeung Sau Sing for making this movie. Thank you director Chan Mou Yin for giving the opportunity to me. When even I wanted to give up myself, you didn't give up on me. To use a quote from the film, 'Since we got on this rare ride of life, we shouldn't worry about when we would get off. We should enjoy the scenery on the way. I am very happy to have met each and every one of you on this ride, becoming an actor has made me feel that this ride has been well worth taking. I would continue to work hard. I am actor Wai Sze Nga!" Nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the first time with THE LAST DANCE, Tommy Chu Pak Hong broke down when he was announced the winner. He tried to catch his breath for a long time after rushing to the stage. "An individual occupies very little portion of an award, which absolutely isn't the credit of the individual. I am grateful to have encountered my family, especially Father in Heaven; grateful for encountering Emperor Motion Pictures, thank you Dr. Yeung Sau Sing for giving me a lot of opportunities, and to colleagues who have voted for me. Let's Hong Kong film!" He joked that he wanted to continue the challenge and win Best Actor, as in the audience Wai Sze Nga sobbed with excitement in a touching scene. Best Supporting Actress went to Jo Koo (Kok Cho Lam). She thanked her family and her on screen husband Lau Ching Wan for treating her like family. THE LAST DANCE also won a number of awards, including Anselm Chan Mou Yin and Cheng Wai Kei for Best Screenplay, Chu Wan Pin for Best Original Film Score, and Terence Lam Ka Him's THE LAST DANCE for Best Original Film Song. The film's "commander" Chan Mou Yin said in his speech, "When I was writing this script, it was a low point in my life. Thank you Chu Pak Hong and Leung Yung Ting for dragging me back up from hell on countless nights. Thank you Dr. Yeung Sau Sing for investing in such an alternative movie during such a difficult time. Thank you Wai Sze Nga for training in hell breaking (ritual) for a whole fun just because I said one thing." He also said that he did not know what genre he would make next, but probably would be a lighter subject. He wanted to make things that occur in Hong Kong, because it has many people and things that are worth the entire world to know about. He said that getting a movie made would certainly be difficult, but he still wanted to do it. Started as a screenwriter, he felt that he first had to properly write the script. It would have to commercial considerations but also express what he wants to say. Best Original Film Score recipient Chu Wan Pin thanked his COLLAR member girlfriend Winka, who applauded for him in the audience. Tsui Hark and Shi Nansun won the Lifetime Achievement Award. Tsui Hark thanked Ng See Yuen for bringing him into the industry, and encouraged his peers to face the challenges together. "We must uphold our original aspirations and passion, work together, help and support each other, rely on professionalism, the right attitude and personal ability to work together to meet all kinds of difficulties, overcome challenges, and break new ground in a familiar market. With this belief, I believe we can definitely do it!" He also thanked Shi Nansun for supporting the Film Workshop over the years. "She braved heavy wind and rain, so a madman like me can have flights of fantasy inside. Tonight she deserves both awards." Shi Nansun thanked the film teams for their efforts and support, and wished all the film industry colleagues to continue their efforts. Brigitte Lin made a surprise appearance as the presenter, and shared on the stage the origin of how they met, got to know and cherish each other, and thanked her good friends Tsui Hark and Shi Nansun for giving her the opportunity back then. "These two friends of mine enabled me to welcome the second spring of my career, and even the good name of 'Invincible Asia'. Today these two friends of mine receive their Lifetime Achievement Award, they are also my Lifetime Achievement." Tony Leung Chiu Wai presented the Best New Performer, which went to Dylan So Man To for PAPA; Leung Chiu Wai then presented the Best New Director, which went to Robin Lee of FOUR TRAILS. The late Bruce Yu Ka On and Karen Yip Ka Yan won the Best Costume Design and Make Up Award for TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIROS: WALLED IN, and director Soi Cheang Pou Soi accepted the award on their behalf. The film also won Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Effects and Best Action Design. Cheang Pou Soi also repeated as Best Director with the film. "I am very luck to be able to accept this award up here again. Actually this year every director wants to hand over quality and quality movies. Honestly this movie may not be the subject I wanted to make the most, but I tell myself I have to use the most professional and focused way to complete this movie." Leung Chiu Wai, Carina Lau Ka Ling, Sean Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Raymond Lam Fung, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Fala Chen and Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) appeared on the red carpet, among whom Fala Chen won the Best Dressed Award. Guest performer Leung Chiu Wai appeared at the Hong Kong Film Awards again after 10 years. He felt very good and excited. With his social phobia he joked that whether presenting or competing he would feel nervous. When foreign media asked him if he was confident despite the lack of a nomination, he was a little surprised but immediately defended the other party. "Do you mean if I have confidence in not saying something wrong when I present the award?" Recently, Leung Chiu Wai has been rumored to participate in the Dragon Head role of TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: DRAGON THRONE (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI LUNG TAU) and might perform with Chow Yun Fat in the "Twin Dragon Heads" performance. Leung Chiu Wai said that was just a rumor. He said that he had no job yet, and his wife Lau Ka Ling had more work than him. Nominated for Best Actor with PAPA, Lau Ching Wan walked the red carpet with his on screen family of Edan Lui Cheuk On, Kok Cho Lam and others. When asked why his wife Kwok Oi Ming did not come along, Ching Wan joked, "You caught me!". He pointed out that his wife moved behind the scenes for taking care of him and made a rare trip out to shop for what he would wear to the Hong Kong Film Awards. Edan hoped to work with Ching Wan again and thought that they had a special connection. After a photo together at an event two years ago they actually got to work together. Ching Wan joked that he thought he got a hint for him to join MIRROR, but actually it was a movie. The "Best Dressed Awards" presenter Louise Wong Dan Nei joked that because she could not present the award to herself, this year she gave up her chance to win. She wore a wig because she did not want to expose her look for a movie. The awards in the end went to Fala Chen and Siuyea Lo Chung Yip. Best Cinematographer guest presenters Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin was asked if she needed to congratulated, she stressed, "Don't mind me, I can take care of myself." She also said that she has never said break up and make up and has never admitted either, as she did not know everyone to know. When asked if she was happy with her current love life, Ah Sa only said that she is happy everyday and that she is more nervous about presenting than being nominated. She often glanced over to Louis Cheung Kai Chung next to her while speaking, and Ah Chung smartly changed the subject on her behalf. Speaking of her former husband Ronald Cheng Chung Kei's divorce case and East Weekly's exclusive report that the alimony was only HK$ 8,000, Ah Sa said that she did not know about other people's matter and it had nothing to do ith her. Ah Chung who has worked with Cheng Chung Kei also said to leave his family matters for him to handle. With two nominations, Marf Yau Yin Tung has become internationally renowned as a warm up guest performer for Coldplay. She said, "That's good if it's true. The social network has more English fan messages, I am very honored. I always say that I have to march toward international, like I have taken one step closer." She felt that she might not have defeated 30 singers and joked that it was like applying for a job. Whether or not she was chose after working with Australian star Ruel, having the experience was enough. She did not ask Coldplay why she was chosen either. She also said that after the performance she received many brand name offers. Jennifer Yu Heung Yin appeared in a denim tube dress, tripped on the red carpet but fortunately it was just a scare. Amy Lo Wai Man appeared in back revealing dress and often turning around to make provocative poses. Singers Terence Lam Ka Him and guy group MIRROR member Ian Chan Cheuk Yin both were nominated for Best Original Film Song. Their fans chartered a yacht on Victoria Harbor in support! In the end THE LAST DANCE theme song Lam Ka Him composed, wrote the lyrics for and sang won. "I really want to thank the Hong Kong Film Awards. Thank you very much to viewers who voted for THE LAST DANCE. Thank you very much director Chan Mou Yin for asking me to sing and write the film song. I really want to thank viewers who went to see LAST at the theaters, and viewers who stayed to the end to listen to this song. I wish everyone would continue to support Hong Kong film, and I wish that I can have the opportunity to participate in film work again." He joked that he had to thank the "ancestors". Ian was also nominated for Best New Performer, which went to Dylan So Man To. When asked about his group mate Edan Lui Cheuk On's Cantonese adaptation of a Korean singer's song being brutally criticized online, Ian has not heard but said that he made music in order to express his thoughts. Edan said that he chose the song because it was a hit. He hoped that everyone would relax and enjoy it. Singer Stephy Tang Lai Yan with the film LOVE LIES (NGOR TAM DIK NAM CHEUNG LUEN OI) was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress for the first time, but because of illness yesterday she suddenly announced that she would be absent. She posted on social network, "I always say that plans can't catch up to changes, I believe everything is the best arrangement. I want to say sorry to everyone and fans. Because I don't feel well, tonight I would be unable to attend the Hong Kong Film Awards. However everyone can relax, I probably would be able to watch it on television. I would properly rest at home and watch the live broadcast, and support everyone over the air! Support Hong Kong film." Her LOVE LIES co-star and Best Original Film Song nominee MC Cheung Tin Fu did not find out until he arrived, and said that there was nothing he could do. A certain renowned singer was rumored online to have lost HK$300,000 on gambling. The rumored suspect MC admitted that he has played privately with friends, but the wagers were not as exaggerated as reported. He explained that he was learning something news, for entertainment he would not bet too big. He would be happy if he would have the chance to be the new generation God of Gamblers. She said that he would stay in Hong Kong for two days, and tonight she would present the "Best Screenplay" award at the Hong Kong Film Awards. She would immediately head to the airport after to fly elsewhere for a fashion event. With the intense schedule she did not bring the children back to Hong Kong. She said that her son is one year old and her daughter is four years old, and she is reluctant to leave them for too long. Now she would consider her children first when she makes a film, if she could she would want to bring children with her as much as possible. She said that earlier she rented a vehicle for an outing and took the little boy to the beach for the first time, but she found that renting a vehicle was not a good choice because the family would be so noisy and sleepless when they were trapped in the car. The Fala Chen starred PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG) neared HK$ 12 million at the box office, saying that she would return to Hong Kong to thank the audience if necessary. She hoped that the box office would be even better. She hinted that when attending the Hong Kong Film Awards, she would wear something to coordinate with the film's promotion. "It would be pretty explosive!" She believed that the flat ticket price of $30 for next month's "Hong Kong Cinema Day" would help the box office. "It would cultivate the habit of going to the movies for a new generation. They would experience different experiences in the cinema in economical ways. I feel nowadays children's attention span is very short. Going to the movies, they could be very focused for two hours and not be on their phones. They can't do that while watching television at home." * (2025/04/26) The 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards Ceremony will be held tomorrow (27th) at the Cultural Centre. The Best Actor competition has been considered between THE LAST DANCE (POR.DEI YUK)'s Michael Hui Koon Man and PAPA's Sean Lau Ching Wan, ROB N ROLL (LUM SI GIP ONG)'s Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING)'s Raymond Lam Fung are also quite prominent and are regarded as dark horses; THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET)'s Neo Yau Hawk Sau faced the strong competition from elders, and his chances of winning the award has decreased outside. Lau Ching Wan has won Best Actor in the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards and the Asian Film Awards, and is confident about winning the award again. The Best Actor at the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild Annual Awards this year, Hui Koon Man feels normal about the awards, saying that the most important thing is to enjoy the scenery along the way. Kwok Fu Sing and Lam Fung both also feel normal. Yau Hawk Sau says that the nomination has been a great encouragement. Hui Koon Man ascended to the Best Actor throne at the first Hong Kong Film Awards with SECURITY UNLIMITED (MOR DUN BO BIU). After 43 years, he would compete for Best Actor with THE LAST DANCE. In the film he put away his true colors as a comedy craftsman to play the role of the Namo master Kwok Man with superb acting skills. The movie has been well received and regarded as the favorite. He said, "Acting in a film with no comedy elements at all this time has been truly very difficult. During the performance I didn't have much confidence. Winning an award before doesn't necessarily mean winning another award. After making this film, I realized that the most important thing in life is to enjoy the scenery along the way." Lau Ching Wan gives delicate and touching performance in PAPA. He says, "I have always had confidence in myself. I would not regard my opponents as enemies, and I dare less to compare with the great elder Hui Koon Man. He is a comedic giant, having made many hit comedies. This time his performance in THE LAST DANCE is outstanding." Lam Fung says that he has done his best to act in TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN, and he is honored to be nominated. If he won the award, it would be the icing on the cake. Kwok Fu Sing said that he must have confidence as an actor, but at the same time he has also learned to face awards normally. In terms of Best Supporting Actress, PAPA's Jo Ko (Kok Cho Lam) would compete against LOVE LIES (NGOR TAM DIK NA CHEUNG LUEN OI)'s Stephy Tang Lai Yan, ALL SHALL BE WELL (CHUNG GUM YI HAU)'s Maggie Li Linlin and THE LAST DANCE's Rachel Leung Yung Ting and Rosa Velasco (Wai Law Sha). Kok Cho Lam won the Best Supporting Actress at the Hong Kong Film Directors Guild Annual Awards, and her pre-race buzz is the highest. Nominated for the first time after 20 years in the industry, she says, "Many people praise me for acting well, because they see a very different me and Lau Ching Wan. No one deliberately design the roles, and everyone fought hard to act. I am overjoyed that many people accept my interpretation method. My look has a heavy sense of life, suitable for playing a role like 'Kam Yin'." She reveals that she has doubted whether she knows how to act. Now she has finally been recognized, which has given her a shot in the arm. She expressed her confidence that she would win, "The award does not represent me, I represent the award. Whether I win the award or not my confidence won't be affected. I would be very happy to be able to win the award, because I would have the opportunity to go on stage and thank the people I want to thank; but I haven't thought about the award speech yet. Thank you so much for voting for me. I am an individual, without the support of the company, getting one vote would have been truly rare." Kok Cho Lam says that after watching the nominated movies, she felt that the opponent are excellent, their performance are great, and she would be happy for whoever would win the award. She joked, "Of course I want to win myself, the best would be for my 'husband' Lau Ching Wan and 'son' So Man To to win together as a family of three; Ching Wan has perfectly demonstrated that acting can be like this, So Man To is an acting genius and not a 'fluke'. After the director finishes telling him, he has made progress in every scene and fully meets the director's requirements. For example the scene of describing the murder of his mother in court, he is so bland but also creepy." Away from the screen for more than 30 years, Maggie Li Linlin has been nominated for the comeback movie ALL SHALL BE WELL. She is both surprised and delighted, saying that she has never thought about being nominated. This is the first time she has been nominated after more than 60 years in film, which is very meaningful and a good memory of her acting career. She says that she has agreed to play "Wu Bik Yuk" without considering the sexual orientation of the character. Instead she has found it challenging and a little trembling, worrying that her acting style is outdated and not good enough; which would tarnish the whole movie. "My previous acting method failed, but under the guidance of the director I found that acting was not too difficult. For me not to act would be difficult, it is a good experience." She smiles and says that fortunately her comprehension ability is not weak and she is able to meet the requirements of the director. However she has neither the confidence nor the extravagance to win the award, saying that the nominees are all young actors. They have their own achievements for the voters to see,. Instead she is like a newcomer. In terms of Best Supporting Actor, MONTAGES OF A MODERN MOTHERHOOD's Lo Chun Yip is sandwiched between TWILIGHTS OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN's Louis Koo Tin Lok and Philip Ng Wan Lung, and THE LAST DANCE's Tommy Chu Pak Hong and Paul Chun Pui. Lo Chun Yip says with a smile, "MONTAGES OF A MODERN MOTHERHOOD has just been released, and in the face of two movies with a box office of over 100 million it is already well worth the price of admission. I've watched both films, and I'm very impressed by the performances of my opponents. I'm already happy to be a part of them." He says that he has been in film for more than 10 years, but the outside has only noticed him last year when he competed for Best Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards with TIME STILL TURNS THE PAGES (NIN SIU YUT GEI). Actually with SUK SUK, this is the third time he has been nominated for the Hong Kong Film Awards. "I have encountered a great production team that is very high quality." He does not mind being accused of being an also ran, thinking that the most important is to get to run. "The opponent's performances are really exciting, like in THE LAST TIME Chun Pui doesn't have many scenes. When he appears in the mourning hall for Hui Koon Man, you can see that he misses his friends and his regret. He is very powerful." Chu Pak Hong won the Best Supporting Actor at the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild Annual Awards and is the favorite. Ng Wan Lung and Koo Tin Lok played "Wong Gau" and "Tornado" in TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN. They have recently become popular in Japan. Chun Pui is a frequent guest at the Hong Kong Film Awards, and in THE LAST DANCE has fewer scenes. No one knows if that will affect the score. * (2025/04/26) Hedwig Tam Sin Yin and Siuyea Lo hun Yip with their film MONTAGES OF A MODERN MOTHERHOOD (FU DUK BUT) have been nominated respectively for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor. Tam Sin Yin even won the 31st Hong Kong Film Critics Society Best Actress and has been seen as the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress dark horse. She jokes that she has not thought too much about it, being nominated is already happy. She admits that previously she feels that the award ceremony would have nothing to do with her. Tam Sin Yin and Lo Chun Yip played novice parents in MONTAGES, but in reality they have not yet become parents. They did ample research before filming. Tam Sin Yin felt that the most important thing about being a mother is to have good teammates, communicate well and divide labor. Then no one would be surprised. She jokes that she has yet to find good teammates and would try trial by combat for matchmaking. The pig teammate in the film, Lo Chun Yip says that leave it to fate. The role has made him understand that becoming a father will change the focus of his entire life. The close to life performance has made Tam Sin Yin a dark horse of the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress race. She laughed and said that she was happy to be nominated. This year's race includes THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK)'s Michelle Wai Sze Nga, THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET)'s Chung Suet Ying, ALL SHALL BE WELL (CHUNG GUM YI HAU)'s Patra Au Ga Man and LAST SONG FOR YOU (GAU BIT CHUNG FUNG)'s Natalie Hsu (Hui Yan Yi). Tam Sin Yin believes that this year's female characters are very three-dimensional, everyone has outstanding performance. She is very happy that many peers are nominated for each award this year, and frankly said that she used to think that the awards ceremony had nothing to do with her. Now she is very happy to participate in this year's party, winning the award or not is secondary. "To be nominated is to be seen, many very powerful actors have not have this opportunity. Being seen is already worth being happy about." Lo Chun Yip admits that his opponents are strong this year, TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING)'s Louis Koo Tin Lok and Philip Ng Wan Lung and THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK)'s Paul Chun Pui and Tommy Chu Pak Hong both broke HK$ 100 million at the box office. He joked that he was fighting alone. "The audience must feel excited when they see this list, but as an actor it is not about winning or losing awards; it's how to continue to stay in this industry, encountering good works and good roles are the most enjoyable." * (2025/04/26) "Cold-faced Comedy Craftsman" Michael Hui Koon Man with the Emperor Motion Picture THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) would compete for the Best Actor at this year's Hong Kong Film Awards. Because he subverted his own Westernized character in the film and played the role of the serious Old Man "Hello Man" who adhered to the tradition, his superb acting skills have earned him the "Movie God" title online! Although he has unanimously praises before the race, Michael bluntly says that he would like the film to win the "Best Film" the most. "The 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards" will be held grandly at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre tomorrow. Nominated for Best Actor with THE LAST DANCE, Hui Koon Man won Best Actor at the first Hong Kong Film Awards in 1982 with the movie SECURITY UNLIMITED (MOR DUN BO BIU). After 43 years, he played the role of a strict father with a hard mouth and tender heart, a fiery personality and adherence to tradition in LAST. The performance has received many good reviews and has become the favorite. Earlier when he was on Manfred Wong (Man Jun)'s online program, he joked that his younger brother Sam Hui Koon Kit is the "Song God" and he also wants to be awarded the title of "Movie God". The ordinary joke has received a lot of support online, citing that he absolutely has the qualification to be "Movie God"! Michael recently mentioned the "Movie God", laughed and said that he was just joking; but he also pointed out that he felt intimate with everyone always calling him Michael. Recently more people on the street have called him "Hello Man", which makes him very happy. "After many years of acting, I finally have a role that has penetrated the hearts of the people, which is pretty good." In this year's Hong Kong Film Awards race for Best Actor, Michael has worked with two opponents, Sean Lau Ching Wan and Aaron Kwok Fu Sing. Raymond Lam Fung and Neo Yau Hawk Sau are younger generation actors. What does he think his opponents? He humbly says, "I am very lucky to have been nominated this year! Many thanks to the Hong Kong Film Awards voters, director Chan Mou Yin and Emperor Motion Pictures. Right now the audience is high quality and highly demanding. I was able to nominate with Lau Ching Wan, Kwok Fu Sing, Lam Fung and Yau Hawk Sau, which represents the recognition of the audience and the voters. I know that everyone have worked very hard and performed rather well." On the eve of the Hong Kong Film Awards, many pre-competition predictions have appeared on the Internet. Most are optimistic that Michael would win the award, but he has a different opinion. "I think being nominated is already great, I have seen that I am lagging behind, haha! No matter what, actually friends who have noticed my interviews over the years know that the award I most hope to win is the "Best Box Office Award". I feel this time THE LAST DANCE has really done it. Many online want LAST to win the "Best Film", I really do too. The film has been able to be recognized by the audience, which to me is the best award." Earlier director Anselm Chan Mou Yin in an interview once revealed that in the film daughter Michelle Wai Sze Nga helped Michael bathe but he kept struggling. Due to the narrow place during the shoot, he fell from a wheelchair in the chaos and even injured his hand. Although it was extremely painful, he still insisted on continuing. Michael bluntly said that this shower scene is really unforgettable. "I considered it one of the major emotional scenes in LAST. First the bathroom constructed on the set was so realistic, detailed, and felt like home. On the other hand I have to praise Wai Se Nga for her dedication to the performance, which made me forget that I was acting. I directly treated her as if she was my own daughter." Many film critics praised Michael's performance in LAST as a completely different person, which is very different from his own more Westernized personality. Has he made a lot of preparations in advance? He said, "The character 'Brother Man' in the film is rather drastically different from me in real life. For example I don't know much about Taoism and the Namo tradition. Perhaps due to my Western education, so I have been more open-minded in communicating with my children and grandchildren. However I don't consider the role of 'Brother Man' very difficult to play, because he is so similar to my father. Most of our parents in the previous generation were like this, so it is not very difficult." Neo Yau Hawk Sau was nominated for Best Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards for the first time this year with the movie THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET). Earlier he competed for Best Actor at the Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan, but lost to BEL AMI' Zhang Zhiyong by a very small number of votes as he came in second. This time at the Hong Kong Film Awards he ran into the super strong favorite Michael Hui Koon Man, would he lack a little confidence? Yau Hawk Sau joked, "When LAST was released, after I watched the performance of elder Hui Koon Man I have already said many times that 'this year Michael would win the Hong Kong Film Award for sure'. His acting skills were really superb." Many of this year's Best Actor nominees have won the prize before. In addition to Hui Koon Man, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Sean Lau Ching Wan have all won before. Only Yau Hawk Sau and Raymond Lam Fung are first time 'rookie' nominees. Yau Hawk Sau joked that he and Lam Fung belong to the same company, so their relationship is good. He has no animosity to compete for this award this time, and even said that Lam Fung would take him to look for good food in Hong Kong. The crew of WAY has very high demands for the role. Originally they wanted a hearing-impaired actor for the lead, but in the end because they were unable to find a suitable candidate, the role fell into the hands of Yau Hawk Sau. He also cherished the opportunity very much and spent a whole year to learn sign language, of which half a year was a "hellish" vow to achieve the "essence" of sign language so he would live up to the good role. * (2025/04/26) Yesterday the chairman of the Hong Kong Film Awards Association Derek Yee Tung Sing led the board of directors members and the award presenters for a worship ceremony. Louis Cheung Kai Chung revealed that he joined the board of directors this year and faced many challenges in preparing for the Hong Kong Film Awards for the first time. "The most difficult has been sponsorship negotiation. Because the general climate is not good, and finding sponsorship has been difficult." Earlier he has become the secretary general of the Performing Artists Guild earlier. He immediately invited Dee Ho Kai Wah and Jeffrey Ngai Chun Sun to join on the spot, to which Dee immediately offer to do the chores. Both said that they would gladly join. In addition, Cheung Kai Chung recently adopted a dog. "On its first day at home, it didn't sleep all night and wet the place 4 times. My wife and I spent all night wiping the floor and didn't get to sleep at all." Jeffrey welcomed his 27th birthday on the 23rd of this month. He said that he had a fever that day, but he still had to work on a movie. Fortunately the team celebrated his birthday, and a friend gave him a disinfecting dresser. Dee said about the East Weekly report that the company has place a "gag order" on his group mate Poki Ng, "No such thing! Earlier there were talks of a refrigerator (suspension), I haven't seen it." He admitted that their group ERROR had less jobs, but it was not related to Poki. Many productions have been postponed. He also said that he had no tip for Keung To, because he has not done well enough himself. In addition Yee Tung Sing talked about the arrangement in case of rain on the day of the award ceremony. He said that the location of the red carpet would not change, and he has already arranged for clear umbrellas for the guests. In case of heavy rain the red carpet segment would be cancelled. Last year the "Best Film" winner was interrupted during his speech due to time. Yee Tung Sing pointed out that this year the complete version would be online. He was confident that the video hit rate would exceed 50 million and hinted that this year would have mystery guests to present major awards. * (2025/04/26) Best Actress Jennifer Yu Heung Ying and Fish Liew Chi Yu will be the guest presenters at the Hong Kong Film Awards tomorrow. Liew Chi Yu bluntly said that no one could stop her from being sexy, as she would be ready to make a "boney" appearance. The ailing Yu Heung Ying caught the illness from her son. She revealed that she "left her husband and children" and went to Singapore for Lady GaGa's concert with his sister and enjoy three days and two nights of Me Time. Best Actress Yu Heung Ying and her sister Zoe Yu Kit Ying, Liew Chi Yu, Eric Chui Wing Kwan and former Super Girls members Yanny Chan Wing Yan, Cheronna Ng Ka Hei and Jessica Tsoi Ming Sze attended the event yesterday. She revealed that she would "abandon her husband and children" and go to Singapore with her sister to watch the Lady GaGa concert, and enjoy Me Time for three days and two nights. Recently Jennifer's drama UNCLE MUM is airing. Actually her son also appeared on camera. She revealed that day they would have used a prop baby, but later she suggested to carry her son on camera. She joked that she forgot whether they accepted lai see. When her son watched the drama he recognized himself and could not stop laughing happily. Would she have the opportunity to act with her young sister Yu Kit Ying? She said, "I have always wanted to act as sisters. I wouldn't mind playing mother and daughter, even with 'all three generations' with my son." Jennifer won the Hong Kong Film Awards last year, and this year she would be a guest presenter with Fish. She said that she would only "show her teeth" at the awards ceremony, while Fish said that she would be sexy and ready to "show her bones". She declared that no one could stop her, let alone letting her boyfriend Siuyea Lo Chun Yip look her over. Speaking of her boyfriend's nomination for "Best Supporting Actor", would she present the award? She kept that a secret. In addition, Chui Wing Kwan revealed that she only joined the company because of Fish, who she regarded as a goddess and a goal to strive for. Speaking of rumors of her brother Edward Chui Woei Dong dating Eileen Yiu Chi Ling were in tow, she avoided the subject, said that she has seen Chi Ling on the street and praised her as pretty. Would Fish have any guy she could introduce to her junior colleague? She joked, "Only a few are left, I grabbed the best one! I'll keep an eye out for her." * (2025/04/26) The Louis Koo Tin Lok, Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Raymond Wong Ho Yin, Renci Yeung Sze Wing, Eddie Cheung Siu Fai and others starred new film BEHIND THE SHADOWS (SI GA JING TAM) will be released in June. The story is a puzzling adultery case that involves a horrific serial murder case. From the layout of the pilot poster, the movie is like an urban labyrinth and the truth is hidden behind the shadows. The Koo Tin Lok played private detective shuttles between the dilapidated patios with cold eyes, and Chau Sau Na and Yeung Sze Wing stand on different levels of balconies and staircase corners. Their eyes intertwine but each with their own issues inside, as if they have the keys to solve the mystery. Koo Tin Lok subverts his past image in the film, incarnating a down-and-out private detective. Originally only taking on trivial cases such as searching for people and missing pets, he is swept into a thrilling murder case due to the betrayal of his beloved wife. Chau Sau Na wanders in the mystery as a wife and girlfriend, and behaves secretly. With highly recognized acting skills, Liu Kuan Ting (Lau Koon Ting) performed with all his might to battle wits and courage with the detective. As the girlfriend of a gangster, Yeung Sze Wing is full of charm and her bold performance is also attractive. The behind-the- scenes lineup of the film includes the iron triangle combination of producer Soi Cheang Pou Soi, director Jonathan Li Tsz Chun and screenwriter Chow Man Yu, Li Tsz Chun and Chow Man Yu have worked together again after DUST TO DUST (DAI BAK GOR YIM YI YUN) to deepen the depiction of crime suspense elements and forbidden desires, build a highly realistic restrictive crime scene, and strive to create an immersive viewing experience that shocks the psychological limit. * (2025/04/25) Louis Koo Tin Lok was at the premiere of the movie VITAL SIGNS (SUNG YUEN TOH JUNG) the night before (23rd). About the "Dragon Head" character of TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: DRAGON THRONE (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI LUNG TAU) becoming the focus, Goo Jai smiled and pointed out that "the Dragon Head is just baking, wait until the Dragon Head is one than it's done". Tony Leung Chiu Wai or Chow Yun Fat has been rumored to play the role. Goo Jai joked that they might be twin dragon heads. Although he, Wai Jai and Fat Gor attended Johnnie To Kei Fung's birthday party a few days ago, they celebrated and did not talk about movies. Koo Tin Lok, Poon Chan Leung, Angela Yuen Lai Lam, Neo Yau Hawk Sau, On Chan Kin ON and others two nights ago attended the film VITAL SIGN's premiere. Koo Tin Lok saw So Yui Wan, the child actor who played his daughter in the films WARRIORS OF FUTURE (MING YUT JIN GEI) and VITAL SIGN (SUNG YUEN TOH JUNG) on the stage and urged her not to wear so little out next time, which made everyone laugh. Koo Tin Lok praised So Yui Wan's acting and was a genius actor. Would he strongly support her? Koo Tin Lok said, "Starting so little? It's not that I wouldn't consider it, I have to have her parents' agreements. She would also have to focus on her studies." He felt that now new actors pick stuff up very quickly. They would not lack opportunities, the most important would be to have the audience's support. "The whole movie could use new comers, but the box office wouldn't be too good. Ultimately creators have to live. Without the audience's support, these movies wouldn't be born. No matter how much effort you put into support newcomers it would still be hard." Koo Tin Lok was asked when TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS:DRAGON THRONE would start production, and he said with a smile: "The Dragon Head is still baking." Online rumor claimed that Leung Chiu Wai would play the former Dragon Leader Lui Chun Tung, Goo Jai replied, "Wait for the Dragon Head to be squeezed out then you will know." Regarding Aaron Kwok Fu Sing's proposal for Chow Yun Fat to play the role, Goo Jai joked, "The Dragon Head is very strange, it may be twin dragon heads. (Do you have any idea who to ask?) Everything would have to wait for the script to be finalized, and then we have to look at the budget." A few days ago he attended To Kei Fung's 70th birthday party, and the rumored "twin dragon heads" Leung Chiu Wai and Chow Yun Fat were both present. Did they discuss the dragon head project together? Goo Jai said, "That day was To Sir's 70th birthday, in front of him I didn't talk about movies. (You could have discussed the collaboration not in front of To Sir?) However I sat near To Sir, Wai Jai sat across from me, Fat Gor was on he left, how could we talk? (Did you take the chance to talk collaboration with To Sir?) No, mainly we celebrated his birthday with him, and other things shouldn't be discussed on this occasion." His good friend Ronald Cheng Chung Kei has been rumored to be divorcing his wife Sammie Yu Sze Man, they both went to family court over the matter. Has Goo Jai consoled Ronald Cheng Chung Kei? Goo Jai said that they have talked on the phone, and he would give him space and wait for him to handle everything before having dinner with him. Performing in VITAL, Neo Yau Hawk Sau announced the end of Trial and Error on its 5th anniversary on October 26th. He said the night before that there were many reasons but none had to do with money. It was not related to often offending people neither. He felt that he was not suitable to be a boss, but he still wanted to make videos. Also present, Angela Yuen Lai Lam was admitted to the hospital with a high fever earlier and was absent from the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong International Film Festival. Her fever reached a peak of 41.9 degree Celsius, but she stressed that she did not snuck out. "Although I really wanted to, because I really wanted to attend the international film festival closing ceremony." She said that she has recovered after being hospitalized on the 6th, but did not talk about her condition in detail. She did not want to say too much as she did not want to give people the impression that she is always in the hospital. She only said that her condition was similar to that of the flu. Speaking of being scolded for being linked in rumors with Edan Lui Cheuk On, he recently publicly protected Lin Minchen. Yuen Lai Lam praised him, but she felt that it was none of his business. No one scolded her now, and her mentality was better than before. Would she not pick someone in the business to date in the future? She just said that she has tried hard to be independent and take care of herself. On Chan Kin On pointed out that C AllStar was just on a break. Although the members have left Media Asia one after another, they have never announced disbanding and would not be restricted by being with different companies. As for Andy Leung Chiu Fung's make up artist girlfriend suddenly publicizing their romance on social platforms, On Jai frankly admitted that he knew that he was dating, blessed him but did not ask for details out of privacy. "I have seen Chiu Fung's girlfriend. I haven't notice for how long they have been together. Actually it has been 4 and a half years already. She is Chiu Fung's official make up artist, in my impression she hasn't helped me or other members with their make up." He felt that everyone publicizing their relationship would be their personal choice and decision and would be worth blessing. Would he choose to publicize his relationship too? Chan Kin On said, "At a suitable time, everyone would receive suitable messages. Then they would know. Just wait, I am waiting too!" * (2025/04/25) In the past two years, the "Hong Kong Cinema Day" has received enthusiastic support from the Hong Kong public, attracting more than 200,000 people to watch movies at cinemas every year and setting a number of record attendance. This year the Hong Kong Theaters Association (HKTA) has joined hands with a number of members to organize the "Hong Kong Cinema Day" for the third consecutive year, once again launching an unprecedented offer to encourage audiences to experience the promotional methods that cinema chains provided, and continuing to encourage the public to actively use "going to the cinema" as a daily entertainment. The Film Development Fund and the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Office would fund this event, which would be one of the programs in response to the Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival 2025. "Hong Kong Cinema Day 2025" will be held on May 10th, with a flat ticket price of HK$30 for all 53 cinemas in Hong Kong (if the first concessionary ticket price for the elderly is less than $30, it will remain unchanged). The audiences could enjoy any kind of film screening at any cinema in Hong Kong at a reduced price of $30. More than 70 films would be expected to be screened at that time, including new films such as THE DUMPING QUEEN, VITAL SIGNS (SUNG YUEN TOH JUNG), THE THUNDERBOLTS*, A GILDED GAME, LAST BREATH, HOLY NIGHT: DEMON HUNTERS and other new films. Yesterday's press conference was attended by the Chairman of the Hong Kong Theaters Association, Mr Timothy Yuen Yan Man, the Permanent Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Vivian Sum Fong- kwang, the event ambassador Michelle Wai Sze Nga and representatives of major member associations. Artists have also made appeal videos that were shown in support of the event. Wai Sze Nga said that she had formed an unbreakable bond with movies. The first time she went to interview for a job was at the age of 18 at the Tsim Sha Tsui Ocean Cinema, and the monthly salary of the cinema staff was about HK$ six or seven thousand. "I still remember the scene at that time. I really wanted to be a 'scoop' popcorn and an usher in the show so I could watch the show for free, but unfortunately I wasn't hired in the end. Later I went to work as a lifeguard." She also appealed to the public to remember that tickets for the Hong Kong Cinema Day on May 10th will go on sale at the box office of major cinemas and online ticketing websites after 12 noon on May 7th. However, she said sentimentally, "The film industry has had a mix of joys and sorrows in the past year, with two films THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) and TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) both breaking 100 million at the box office. That's the happy part, but many theaters have also closed one after another. I hope everyone will support the film industry, buy more tickets and go to support the cinemas, so that the film industry would prosper! Ultimately the feeling of watching a movie at the theater is very different." As the ambassador of the event, Wai Sze Nga would also personally give away popcorn to the general public on the vehicle on May 10th. She said with a smile, "I can finally fulfill my wish, and 'scoop' popcorn for everyone!" Would Wai Sze Nga join her husband at the movies to support the Hong Kong Cinema Day? She said that it would depend on whether she could succeed in snatching tickets, but a few days ago she and her husband already went to watch the extended version of THE LAST DANCE. She did not expect that her husband would be moved to tears after watching it three or four times already. "Actually he is so sensible, I too am very surprised that he would cry. Mainly the movie involves family and in addition I perform in it, he was even more able to get into it." The Hong Kong Film Awards this year would take place Sunday. Michelle with LAST has been nominated for Best Actress. She already had several dresses in mind, one of which was cut low to the belly button. However none has been confirmed. In addition, she would bring her spouse. Speaking of choosing what her husband would wear, she joked that hers was the eyes of men. She was not too sensitive about fashion differences, feeling that the most important was that the shoes would be comfortable. She also said that her husband would not be too nervous about his first time on the red carpet. Instead he has been looking forward to it very much, just like attending a party. * (2025/04/24) Director Johnnie To Kei Fung held a 70th birthday party and many friends from the film industry gathered. Best Actors Chow Yun Fat, Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Carina Lau Ka Ling have rarely been in the same frame. Sister Ka Ling shared a photo with a group of old friends at the party on social networks, and sent birthday wishes to To Sir. "Forty years of acquaintance, starting from the TV series DUKE OF MOUNT DEER, happy birthday To Sir." She admitted frankly that she saw many friends who she has not seen for a long time that night. In addition to Fat Gor, there were Louis Koo Tinh Lok, Sammi Cheng Sau Man, William Chang Suk Ping, and Kelly Lin (Lam Hei Lui), who has not appeared in Hong Kong for a long time. Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Soi Cheang Pou Soi, Lam Suet, Roy Cheung Yiu Yeung and others were attended. Later Chau Sun shared a photo with his THE MISSION (CHEUNG FOR) co-stars Roy Cheung Yiu Yeung and Lam Suet. "THE MISSION brothers, see you down the road." Chau Sun also revealed a funny encounter that night. "Someone asked me: How are you? I said, Great! He was stunned for a moment, and then he couldn't continue, and he walked away. I thought to myself, was he surprised that I am living so well? Did I scare him?" * (2025/04/24) Actress Michelle Wai Sze Nga with the Emperor Motion Picture THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) swept up film awards in Southeast Asia and the mainland. She is about to compete in the Hong Kong Film Awards and stated that she is friends with other opponents and has never thought about competing for the award; she also revealed that she suffered a lot during the filming, burned her hair and hurt her hands, buts he also felt that it was worth it! The film also made her no longer afraid of death. She would pack a final "treasure chest of life", so that her beloved would have a little less trouble. The 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards Presentation Ceremony will be held on the 27th of this month (Sunday), and the five Best Actress nominees Michelle Wai Sze Nga, Chung Suet Ying, Natalie Hsu (Hui Yan Yi), Hedwig Tam Sin Yin and Patra Au Ga Man each have their own merits, and the competition has been quite fierce! Nomination for the Emperor Motion Picture THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK), Michelle earlier has already won the Asia-Pacific Film Festival and Huading Awards, and the emotional tug of war with "Papa" Michael Hui Koon Man in the film was quite tear-jerking. Her pre-race appeal was very high. Speaking of being the favorite outside with a good chance of winning the award against Chung Suet Ying and other strong rivals, Michelle said, "Actually we are all good friends. When the nominations were announced, we already exchanged text messages of support. I think we have our own advantages, and there is no competition." The film received 18 total nominations at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Which award would she like to win the most? She said, "I want director Chan Mou Yin to win more. We have been through a lot together, and we are distant relatives who support each other at the most difficult times." When she first received Anselm Chan Mou Yin's invitation to perform, Michelle took a whole year to prepare from the preparation of the filming to its official start. "When he informed me, we didn't even know whether it would successfully start production or not. I originally had an inexplicable fear of this kind of subject, but I thought that the actors had to try anything. Just the hell-breaking ceremony alone took 8 months of practice. Once I bought some paper offering dolls, Hell bank note, and banner to set up, wrote a note to tell people not to move anything. When I returned the next day everything was tossed and I had to buy them all over. I've also tried to look like something similar to a Taoist robe, and practice swords and spinning near the elevator of the house and the park downstairs. Anyone who had no idea really would have thought I was crazy!" Michelle's two-person hell-breaking scene with "brother" Chu Pak Hong at the end of the film was still very memorable. "Actually, it only took two takes. When the cameras stopped, all the staff raised their heads. Some shouted and some clapped, and I was so touched by everyone's reactions. (Did the fire burn you?) A little at the very end, some of the hair in the front got burnt; but the most accident- prone place was when the ember fell into the sleeves of the robe. Many masters have said that they couldn't stop during the ritual, and sometimes they would burn themselves." LAST affected countless viewers, many online hoped that it would be able to win Best Film. Michelle also bluntly said that the film reversed her thinking, as she was no longer afraid of life and death. She even revealed that she has prepared a "treasure chest of life". If she would pass away suddenly one day, she would still be able to bid a proper farewell to her loved ones. "When I was promoting in Taiwan I ran into an Internet celebrity, who said that he would pack a 'last suitcase' that contained a selection of posthumous photos, clothes and accessories that he wanted to take with him, and a letter for everyone around him. If I would suddenly pass away, I believe that my loved ones would be very lost. Everyone would be at ease with this box. (Would the last photo need to be updated everyday?) Yes, I looked at the wedding photos again and felt that some were well shot and could be used! Haha!" Nothing was seriously taboo for her. * (2025/04/24) Winning Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards Best Actress for the movie THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET), Chung Suet Ying was honored to be nominated for the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress. However she was the happiest that the song she wrote the lyrics for, WHAT IF, would compete for "Best Original Film Song". She said, "It is the first time I have been nominated for the Original Song Award, and I am so happy that I know how to describe it!" Speaking of the strong competition that included her THE LAST DANCE co-star and good friend Michelle Wai Sze Nga, she pointed out that all of them are fierce rivals. Although she has won the Golden Horse Best Actress, she did not feel particularly confident. "Everyone did a great job, I just sent a message to Wai Sze Nga first about some nonsense. (Harassing the enemy?) Life isn't always about competition, we can talk about life! Ha ha! If she would win, I'd be very happy!" She also laughed and said that they both also loved to eat and share information about food from time to time. Did she get many more jobs after winning the Golden Horse Best Actress? She actually said, "New opportunity seems not to have appeared yet!" Fortunately she had different jobs, such as DJ, lyrics, modeling, etc. Even if she did not make a movie for a whole year, she could still earn money by writing. As for another opponent, first time Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress nominee Tam Sin Yin said that she also liked each of the nominated films. "I have always liked Chung Suet Ying a lot, she is a flexible actor; Natalie (Hui Yan Yi) is young, cute and radiant, and her energy is so high; Michelle just keeps pushing the boundaries and I'm happy for her!" * (2025/04/24) Natalie Hsu (Hui Yan Yi) has been in the film industry for 4 years and had countless opportunities. She felt that she has been luckier than ordinary newcomers. This year she won the admission ticket to compete for the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress with LAST SONG FOR YOU (GAU BIT CHUNG FUNG). Speaking of the day when the nominations were announced, she smiled and said, "I was in the bathroom at my management company and heard screaming outside. When I went out and received a notice, I was really stunned. I even asked everyone if they were mistaken." At the beginning of the LAST filming, she happened to have to go to Malaysia to shoot another film. She took the folding keyboard with her, and practiced the piano whenever she had time. "Originally I thought I had to play a Bach classic, after I finished practicing I learned that it was changed. (Then what?) It still helped, because classical music was hard to play. More practice would in turn make it easier. I am very happy to be able to learn something new at every film shoot. Achievement unlocked!" As a "film fanatic", she had seen all the performances of the Best Actress nominees before the nominations were announced. Who performed the best? She was immediately at a loss for words. "I can only say to each her own. Chung Suet Ying acts like a real hearing- impaired person; Tam Sin Yin really knows how to grasp the state and emotions, and the performance is so daring; as for Wai Sze Nga's interpretation, her emotions has multiple levels of variation. In short I am already very pleased with the nomination, which is a great encouragement!" [ In Production Now/Soon ] Can : Long Fa Nam Nui d. This is not only a piece of history of Hong Kong art and culture, but also the most important milestone of Rebecca's oeuvre. This work used the Broadway musical model to adapt the famous Chinese myth Legend of the White Snake. Bringing together Eastern and Western theatrical styles, the production combined Chinese traditional music, dance, costume and stage design with modern Western concepts. Despite this bold attempt, the resulting work was ahead of its time and was not a commercial success. Also, it was thought to have not been captured on film and faded into obscurity. In April, 2023, however, a partial film record of the performance was miraculously discovered. The restored surviving footage has become the finale of this documentary, Pai Niang Niang: The Last Osmanthus Blossom. This documentary is directed by director Wong Tsui-wah, Isabel. His services become a hit with everyone except a crotchety conservative Taoist priest, Master Man, who is unconvinced that Dominic is committed to spiritual care. Thus Dominic digs into all of the details of deathcare while discovering Man’s dedication to the dead means he disregards his nearest and dearest. Filmed in funeral homes in Hong Kong's Hung Hom district, the film has a ring of authenticity while delivering whip-smart verbal comedy via Michael HUI and Dayo WONG as a mismatched pair. From there, it opens up into a more considered look at the Taoist influence in Hong Kong’s funeral rituals and a fascinating family drama that explores how gender roles are affected by these traditions. [ HAWAII INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] Starring current Hong Kong comedy king Dayo Wong and comedy legend Michael Hui, THE LAST DANCE is the story of a debt-ridden wedding planner who finds unexpected success as a funeral planner, but he has to win over a traditional Taoist priest to stay in the business...The pandemic has sent most industries into recession. Mired in debt, wedding planner Dominic gets a miraculous chance to turn things around when a funeral planner retires and passes the baton to him. Planning weddings and funerals are polar opposites, but Dominic puts his all into his new job, from opening graves, digging coffins, to handling the deceased. No matter how unpleasant it gets, he takes on everything with gusto. However, the biggest obstacle is getting the approval of respected Taoist priest, Master Man. In his 70s, Master Man is a traditional man who has devoted his life to his Taoist faith. He wants to pass the mantle to his son, Ben, but Ben is more devoted to his wife and kids than to Taoism. Master Man's daughter, Yuet, respects her father greatly. However, since her ancestors dictated that women are filthy by nature, Yuet doesn't take romantic relationships seriously. Shi's legend was forged through acts of brazen daring, like his infiltration of an enemy stronghold to rescue the wrongly imprisoned Lu Jun-yi from certain execution. Patrick Tam, in a performance of searing intensity, breathes life into a character confronted with the ghosts of his outlaw past, and clinging to hope for rebuilding his fractured life and finding new purpose. Chan, the acclaimed writer of the "Ip Man" franchise, infuses the film with a sense of hard-bitten optimism, suggesting that even in the darkest of times, an indomitable spirit can light the path to a better tomorrow. Her baby daughter Qing is difficult and cries constantly and Jing frequently clashes with her live-in in-laws over childcare and housework, while her husband, who works as a delivery driver, views parenting as something he occasionally helps with. All she did was have a child, yet Jing's life is turned upside down, leaving her in a situation where all her efforts to build her career have been negated. Director Oliver Siu Kuen Chan meticulously dissects Jing's struggles, revealing the emotional turbulence she endures. The film’s realistic and precise narrative depicts the suffocating oppression women suffer within both family and society, the pressures of 'being a mother' and 'motherhood,' and resolutely move forward, forcing Jing to make a final decision.
