Then she settled in the U.S. and focused on Hollywood, as well as having a pair of children with her husband. Earlier she returned to Hong Kong film and starred in the Nick Cheung Ka Fai written, directed and starred new film PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG) is in release. In the film Fala and Ka Fai played a loving couple who make a wrong choice due to an investment failure, which causes the relationship between the two to change dramatically and their lives also fall into a nightmare. Because of the role, Fala hovered between gloom and depression in every scene. When she went crazy, she even tried to jump off the building, running through the streets and screaming until she was hoarse. Her acting bug got its fill. She even said that it was the first time she lost weight for the role. PEG O' MY HEART opened on March 27th, as of April 1st it has accumulated over HK$ 4 million at the box office. Cheung Ka Fai has been promoting hard, between Friday (the 4th) and Sunday he and Terrance Lau Chun Him visited over 30 audience appreciation screenings. Fala praised his co-star Cheung Ka Fai for his ability to act and direct, so that the actor knew exactly what he wanted. She said, "Ka Fai's idea is very clear to us, like accurately telling the relationship between the couple in our film then letting me perform freely. Because I trust him as a director, basically I don't have to rehearse or use another method to act." When Fala and Terrance Lau Chun Him had scenes together, Ka Fai would explain as the director. Because Ka Fai started as an actor, he would understand the problems the actors faced. Fala thought that it was different from the feeling of working with other directors before, and the chemistry was also greater. Fala had to put down her beauty to play a "mad woman", she joked: "Actually I'm playing myself. I don't know why I've always given people a mild-mannered, girl next door impression. I hope that the role can be a little bigger leeway, with sweetness and madness. Each role has its own depth and layer." Fala admitted that she was afraid of playing hysterically crazy roles, so she tried to avoid them in the film and let her emotions start to radiate naturally from the character. Fala also deliberately strengthened her makeup. She said, "Ka Fai often comes to see my makeup, I am not afraid myself; but my family would be scared when they see it. Maybe I don't make this type of movie often, I showed my mother my make up photos and her reaction was so painful. She asked why was I like this? My husband didn't react much when he saw it, and the children were too little. I don't dare to show them as I am afraid they would have nightmares." Fala revealed that he and Cheung Ka Fai in order to play their roles well both lost 10 pounds. She lost weight for the first time for the role, which she joked was more tragic than the character. She said, "The director asked me to lose five or six pounds, but the filming was around Christmas. I could only watch my family have Christmas feast. In addition Ka Fai and I first filmed the couple at happier times, (Claudie) Chung Chun (PEG O' MY HEART producer) often bought a lot of food to the set. We kept eating on the set. After the Christmas holiday we continue the shoot, I just went to France on vacation and luckily I met the goal. We only filmed the hard part around Christmas. I felt that I was even more tragic than the movie character." Having directed short films, Fala admitted that she still had a director dream to challenge Westerns that few Chinese people would shoot. She said, "If I can start production on a Western film, I may not act in it because I have to concentrate on directing and researching scripts. I am not as amazing as Ka Fai, directing and acting at the same time." Would she have a chance to act in TV dramas again? Fala said that because the children are still young, she usually would not want to leave them for too long when she would go out for work. Shooting TV dramas requires a long time, which might have certain difficulties for her. She said, "Wait until the children get a little older, I hope to follow the example of other foreign stars in the future. For example Nicole Kidman came to Hong Kong for a drama before, and the crew arranged for her to bring her children with her." Fala praised this type of arrangement as allowing the actors to have one less concern and be more able to concentrate on the performance. * (2025/04/02) The late superstar Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing (Gor Gor) passed away 22 years ago, and his close friends and a group of "Gor fans" spontaneously expressed their reluctance and nostalgia on his death anniversary. Gor Gor's beloved Daffy Tong Hok Tak (Tong Tong) shared his photos on social networks, including stills from FAREWELL MY CONCUBINE and a video of his past MONICA performance. He posted, "Who can take your place." Yesterday nearly 500 "Gor fans" from the mainland, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong visited Po Fook Hill in Sha Tin to pay respects to Gor Gor. The outside the Mandarin Oriental Hotel at Central has also become a sea of flowers, and "Gor fans" presented flowers to miss their idols. Manager Chan Suk Fan (Mrs. Chan) yesterday with Gor Gor's friend Lin Yim Fai, former assistant Kenneth and other fans from all over the world went to Po Fook Hill in Sha Tin to pay respects. Mrs. Chan ordered a special "22" heart-shaped floral arrangement composed of purple roses to symbolize 22 years of staying the same. Gor fans presented unique floral arrangements, and loyal Japanese fans would come to Hong Kong in April and September every year to present origami cranes. Mrs. Chan printed a limited edition commemorative card for the fans, with Leslie Cheung's classic stage style and autograph printed on the front, and the lyrics of the song DEAR LESLIE printed on the back. Mrs. Chan said that next year will be Gor Gor's 70th birthday, and many fans asked her to hold a commemorative event for "Gor Gor" again. She called on everyone to give their opinions, and after collecting the thoughts of Gor fans she hoped to present the most sincere 70th birthday gift for Gor Gor. Mrs. Chan also revealed that many overseas Gor fans wanted to organize exhibitions, but she wanted to hold the exhibition mainly in Hong Kong. Once confirmed she would make the announcement as soon as possible. In addition many memorial events took place around the world. The Guizhou fan club chartered a theater to screen FAREWELL MY CONCUBINE; the Kaohsiung Film Archive would screen Gor Gor's classic films like NOMAD and ASHES OF TIME this month. Yesterday, Anita Yuen Wing Yee, Vivian Chow Wai Man, Josie Ho Chiu Yee, Karen Tong Bo Yu, Kenny Bee (Chung Chun To) and others remember Gor Gor on social platforms. * (2025/04/01) The Nick Cheung Ka Fai written, directed and starred new film PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG) has become the box office champion for four consecutive days since its release, and its box office has exceeded HK$ 3.3 million as of the day before yesterday. Over the past weekend holiday, Ka Fai led the film's actors Terrance Lau Chun Him, Rebecca Zhu Chen Li, Brian Lee Hoi Yin, Natalie Hsu (Hui Yan Yi), Ben Yuen Fu Wah, Yuen Yee Man and others attended over audience appreciation shows, interacted and shared with the live audience, and even said that they would contact "Choi Sun Keung" and "Dr. Man" to appear at the cinemas as soon as possible. The Ka Fai performed film end credit song I WILL NEVER SLEEP AGAIN has also attracted attention, loyal fans assisted him with his solo concert efforts and took the initiative to check the Hong Kong Coliseum schedule for him! The box office figures of PEG O' MY HEART have reached HK$ 3,370,754 as of the day before yesterday. Last weekend Ka Fai led the cast to thank the audiences and share their impressions with the audience up close. Seeing the audience's enthusiastic reaction, Ah Him generously gave away benefits and gave warm hugs to lucky fans. During this period some Ka Fai fans held up signs to confess to him, "Diamonds and gold are not as sincere and true as me to Ka Fai." Ka Fai was so pleased that he stepped forward to shake their hands and thank them. Cheung Ka Fai said that the audience was engaged in watching the film, which was the picture they wanted to see the most. "One viewer watched it twice and overcame the fear of watching a horror film; There was also a couple, the woman left after watching it for a few minutes because she was scared and the boyfriend who watched the whole film made fun of her; there were also viewers who are nervous that they spilled their popcorn, all of which were engaged reactions. This movie is not a scary ghost movie. Only the subject matter has frightening elements, but the degree is not high. I don't want everyone to be frightened and resist watching this kind of movie." He said that he wanted more audiences to enter the theater and see their dedication and sincerity in making this movie. He was very happy to see that some viewers broke through themselves and bought tickets to watch it twice to overcome their demons. Speaking of the interactive film promotion online was well received and made the role of "Choi Sun Keung" popular. Before the film was released it has already been talked about, as everyone were looking forward to the appearance of "Choi Sun Keng" and "Dr. Man" (the characters of Ka Fai and Lau Chun Him). Ka Fai and Ah Him announced that they have summoned the "two" to appear through relevant people. The movie has attracted much attention, and he Ka Fai performed end credit song I CAN NEVER FALL ASLEEP has also been burned into everyone's brains. Loyal fans even took the initiative to check the Hong Kong Coliseum schedule for Ka Fai, and found that June still had 9 days available on the schedule. They suggested for Ka Fai to hold a concert, and Zhu Chenli was the first to raise her hand in agreement. Ka Fai said seriously, "I can give it a try, then I should probably practice singing regularly. However My throat have been singing too much lately and have calluses, I need to rest first before I make plans." * (2025/04/01) Mong Kok Newport Cinema opened for its final day yesterday, and the Hong Kong Film Awards Best New Performer nominated deaf actor Marco Ng Tsz Ho joined the movie THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET)'s team including director Adam Wong Sau Ping, Neo Yau Hawk Sau, and child actor Cheng Chun Hei to attend the farewell to the Newport Cinema audience appreciation screening two nights ago. Wong Sau Ping said that Newport Cinema was a Mong Kok landmark and thus made the trip to thank the audience before it closed. He lamented that another theater would close, proving that the times were very hard. In his impression, the first time Yau Hawk Sau went to Newport Cinema was with a female companion to watch LAN KWAI FONG (HEI OI YEH PO) and the closing of the cinema was regrettable. THE WAY WE TALK's box office has exceeded HK$ 10 million. Yau Hwak Sau said that each time he has made a movie his wish was for investors to be able to make their money back. He hoped that the industry would continue to develop healthily. He said that if the box office would exceed HK$ 20 million he would remake girlfriend Jessica Chan Yi Chun's music video to "pay the bill". The Mong Kok Newport Cinema has been in business for 20 years but earlier announced its closing. Yesterday was its final day of operation. THE WAY WE TALK's director Wong Sau Ping with Yau Hawk Sau, Ng Chi Ho and Cheng Chun Hei two nights ago attended the farewell to Newport Cinema audience appreciation screening. Wong Sau Ping said that Newport Cinema was a Mong Kok landmark, thus he made the trip to thank the audience before its closing. He used to constantly watched movies at Newport and felt this place was very familiar. "The most memorable was that BEAST COP (YEH SAU YING GAING) was shot here. (Anthony) Wong Chau Sun has become the Best Actor with this film." Wong Sau Ping felt that the rarest part of Newport Cinema was that viewers could enter the cinema without going through the shopping center. This characteristic has already become few in Hong Kong, unfortunately in the end it would still close and prove that the times were very hard. "I remember my previous movie THE WAY WE KEEP DANCING (KONG MO PAI 3)'s audience appreciation, at the time cinema circuits were already closing. Later it came back. I hope that whether is location would later become a cinema or not, people in every industry would strengthen themselves." He admitted that now making a movie was very difficult, but was grateful to see that many viewers were still very supportive on Hong Kong film and like this era's Hong Kong films. Yau Hawk Sau said that he has seen one or two movies at Newport Cinema, as he remembered the first time was watching LAN KWAI FONG with a girl. Playing Yau Hawk Sau's younger version in THE WAY WE TALK, Cheng Chun Hei joked, "I didn't even know about this Newport Cinema, my knowledge isn't deep." Has he seen LAN KWAI FONG? He joked, "I haven't, I like to go to sleep early." Has he invited his classmates to watch his film THE WAY WE TALK? Cheng Chun Hei said that the school has chartered shows for students to watch. His classmates after watching praised the film as entertaining. When he attended certain events and fans screamed his name, he felt incredible. THE WAY WE TALK's box office has exceeded HK$ 10 million. Yau Hawk Sau said that each time he made a movie his wish was for the investors to be able to make money. Although he did not know whether the film has done it, he hoped that it would. "This film industry could continue to have healthy development, in particular investors have the intention to invest in such subjects. I want to make a return and even hope that the film could be brought to the mainland and other places overseas releases, and get in touch with even more viewers." He knew that THE WAY WE TALK has had a lot of responses in the mainland and decent reviews. He joked that if the film would surpass HK$ 20 million at the box office he would remake his girlfriend Chan Yin Chun's music video to "pay the bill". Marco said that he has never been to watch a movie at Newport Cinema before, but he would often pass by. Regarding the closure of another theater, he bluntly said that he felt bad and thought that no place could replace the shocking sound effect of the theater. He also revealed that when he was in elementary school, he tried to go to the theater alone after school, but actually ran into his homeroom teacher and was later given detention for punishment. However he also understood that the teacher's original intention was also out of concern for his safety. As THE WAY WE TALK's box office approached HK$ 12 million, Ng Chi Ho danced during the audience appreciation event to "pay he bill". He joked that he only did two simple moves, but he would dance again when the box office would exceeded 24 million. He even suggested for director Wong Sau Ping dance with him. Wong Sau Ping shook his head and said that he was the least talented in dancing. He only knew how to make dance movies. * (2025/03/31) The Golden Horse Awards Best Actress Chung Suet Ying and her THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET) co-star Marco Ng Chi Ho attended the inclusive guided tour yesterday. Chung Suet Ying before the event even had intimate contact with the dogs, which led to her allergies acting up. Would she be unable to act with animals? She said, "One or two is not a problem, but today there are 20 some of them and really are too many, haha!" She revealed that she is still working hard to thank the audience recently. "I know that some friends have watched it more than 5 times, and some of them are watching for the first time. I am very happy that this time so many viewers expressed their feelings and asked questions after watching it." She explained that the film involved three types of deaf people and young people, which might resonate with more audiences. * (2025/03/31) The Emperor Motion Picture THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) extended version will be released on April 4th on the Ching Ming Festival, with a length of 139 minutes and as many as 12 minutes of never-before-released footage will be presented to the audience. Emperor Motion Pictures announced that the ticket price for the extended version will be HK$80 (certain cinemas excluded, please check cinema websites for details), and part of the proceeds from the extended version will be donated to the charity Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. Commenting on the significance of the extended version release, director Anselm Chan Mou Yin said, "THE LAST DANCE is a testament to the relationship between people and the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals' charitable work that has spared no effort to bring people from different backgrounds in the community closer together. I am particularly pleased to thank the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals for their support and support during the production stage in the form of 'Extending. Reduction'." Lead actress Michelle Wai Sze Nga said, "I remember that at audience appreciation events, the audience friends have been calling for the release of the extended version. In the blink of an eye the director has already prepared this version with more story details and the relationship between the characters. I have learned that part of the box office revenue would be donated to charity, which feels so meaningful. Now there are even more reasons to go to the theaters again!" Actress Catherine Chau Ka Yee said, "During the filming, I visited Tung Wah Coffin Home and International Funeral Parlor and felt that the venues provided a lot of kind help. I think it's a great idea that this extended release will deepen this relationship and extend the relationship between the film and the audience." In addition, THE LAST DANCE team recently appeared at the iSQUARE Emperor Cinema in Tsim Sha Tsui to enjoy the extended version of THE LAST DANCE for the first time, with the full support of the New Territories General Chamber of Commerce and the Care of Rehabilitated Offenders Association. Emperor Group chief Albert Yeung Sau Sing led actors Tommy Chu Pak Hong, Chau Ka Yee, Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Ling), Kaki Sham, Elly Lam, Polly Lau Yeuk Bo, Kiki Cheung Hoi Kei and others in attendance. As this year's Hong Kong Film Awards Best Supporting Actor favorite, Chu Pak Hong was very popular at the scene. He revealed that he was full of anticipation for the extended version. "In the extended version my character would have even richer relationship with other characters, so I very much look forward to sharing with everyone on the silver screen." Appearing for the first time in the extended version, Kaki was greatly excited. Having worked with director Chan Mou Yin on their film READY O/R KNOT (BUT YUT SING FUN), he said, "I am very honored to appear in director Chan Mou Yin's work again." He was able to fulfill his dream of working with his idol Dayo Wong Tze Wah. * (2025/03/29) Hedwig Tam Sin Yin and Locker Lam Ka Hei ganged up to commit crimes and robberies in the new film, and their behavior was crazy. They remembered wearing masks and raised guns to rob in busy streets the most, worried that passers-by would mistake them for real bandits. Lam Ka Hei not only used this film to satisfy his predilection to doing bad things, but also revealed that he would have the opportunity to release music and explore more possibilities. After winning her first Best Actress award at the 31st Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards, Hedwig Tam Sin Yin was also nominated for the "Best Actress" at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Her acting skills have left no room for doubt. In her new film SMASHING FRANK (DOH POR FAT LAN HAK) she, Locker Lam Ka Hei, Renci Yeung Sze Wing and Kaki Sham played "robbery KOL" roles, robbing the rich and helping the poor. The shoot took place in the heat, but they did not mind running in their jumpsuits despite sweating profusely. The most memorable scene was the robbery and chase scene on the streets around Jordan Road. Ah Tam said, "We wore masks, carried guns and walked around Jordan, and we all swaggered through the city. Passers-by didn't know what was going on when they saw smoke, which frightened them. The visual was very attractive." Ah Tam and Lam Ka Hei (Locker) are old friends in private, so they had special chemistry and even tried to add their own scenes. Locker said, "Once he jumped up, I excitedly grabbed him and turned in circles, and we tried to have a few nonsensical stares with Kaki Sham. Actually we didn't know what we were looking at, but the director still used the shot." Ah Tam's character was cynical and would do bad things ordinary people would not do. She joked that she was different from the character. As she got older, she has been able to control her temper more and more. Ah Tam's Hong Kong Film Awards nominated film has not yet released, but has been said to be at more of a disadvantage than her opponent. She said that the film company has arranged for industry insiders to have a sneak peek, and humbly said that she was optimistic about every nominated actor and happy for everyone who were nominated. Locker joked that his acting bug got its fill in the film. "Potentially I have thought about doing bad things, I would rob and carjack in video games. I wouldn't behave that way in reality, but as an actor I can commit crimes and break laws in the film." Locker and COLLAR member girlfriend Marf Yau Yin Tug often collaborate on dance videos and revealed that a musician friend recently proposed for him to release a song, but he denied that he wanted to be a singer. * (2025/03/28) The 43th Hong Kong Film Awards special issue's "Best New Performer" style photos were revealed. Nominees included Lau Wai Ming, MIRROR member Ian Chan Cheuk Yin, Dylan So Man To, Marco Ng Tsz Ho and Marf Yau Yin Tung, and Marf was the only female candidate. She played the role of a prestigious school student who was born with a stutter and lacked self-confidence in the movie BLOSSOMS UNDER SOMEWHERE (GEI LIU YUT JING GOR CHUNG TIN). Ostensibly an innocent girl in the eyes of the teacher, she in order to get attention secretly sold panties boldly with her friends and thought that she could use this to gain the affection of buyers. For this big screen debut, Marf abandoned the image of a stylish singer in terms of style and personality. Her theme song LUT CUT was also nominated for the "Best Original Film Song" award. With two nominations for her first Hong Kong Film Awards, she has achieved a really rare feat! Nominated for the "Best New Performer" for the movie LAST SONG FOR YOU (GAU BIT CHUNG FUNG), Ian would also compete for the "Best Original Film Song" with the theme song of the same name of the film sung with Dior Cheng Yi Kin. In the film he and Ekin Cheng played the same role in different periods. * (2025/03/28) Chua Lam's younger brother and famous Singapore producer Chua Xuan died of illness the day before yesterday at the age of 78. According to Singapore media reports and an obituary issued by Chua Xuan's family, Chua Xuan suddenly had breathing difficulties and wheezing when he went to the hospital for follow-up on March 25th. He was rushed to the emergency room for treatment, but unfortunately passed away from illness on the 26th. Chua Xuan was survived by his son and daughter, and his son Chua Hua confirmed the death and revealed to the media that his father had mild myelofibrosis before his death. His condition began to deteriorate last month, evolving into acute leukemia. Chua Xuan started his career in television in the 1970s, starting as an assistant director and rising to director, producer and production manager. He produced more than 200 TV series, including the Singapore classic drama KOPI-O. Chua Lam once praised Cai Xuan for being very filial. Because the elder sister and elder brother each had families to take care of and he has been away for a long time, since the death of his father Chua Xuan has taken on the responsibility of taking care of their mother with her limited mobility. He pointed out that Chua Xuan pushed the wheelchair every morning and took their mother to Katong Park opposite their old home for a walk. Chua Lam admitted that he was not filial, but he was fortunate to have this good brother who made him feel at ease. After the death of Chua Lam's beloved wife and without any offspring, he experienced the pain of losing another relative again. After the news came out, the outside world was concerned about whether the currently ailing Chua Lam would attend the funeral. However, Chua Hua said that Chua Lam may not be able to go to Singapore to see Chua Xuan off for the last time due to illness. * (2025/03/27) Winning 6 Best Actress awards with the Emperor Motion Picture THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK), Michelle Wai Sze Nga recently shared her ups and downs in the industry over the past 17 years. She bluntly said that she has once questioned herself when she was at a low ebb, but she has never thought of giving up film. Also because of the praise from elder Sean Lau Ching Wan, she regained her confidence! Michelle Wai Sze Nga talked about the fact that she has made more than 40 movies, and said frankly that THE LAST DANCE gave her a lot of profound experiences and feelings during the filming process and when she shared it with the audience afterwards. She also mentioned that a granny gave up the idea of suicide because of the movie! The film THE LAST DANCE ushered in the highlight moment of Michelle's acting journey. Looking back, she bluntly said that she has questioned herself. Fortunately when filming the movie INSANITY (BO FUNG YU) Best Actor Sean Lau Ching Wan praised her to the director. "This girl has great acting." Her confidence then returned! She even made "don't just persevere after seeing hope, you will see hope after you persevere" as her life motto. Although in the film LAST, she and Michael Hui Koon Man missed each other because they did not know how to express themselves; but in real life, Michelle and her family often talked about love. She mentioned that she once traveled to Japan with her parents. She choked up and said, "Snow was falling that day, it seemed to be so romantic. I wanted to capture a picture of them holding hands from behind, but when I saw their backs I suddenly felt that they looked like older. So I have to properly cherish them." Just married and became a wife, Michelle said that she does not pay much attention to the sense of ritual, so she is not in a hurry to spend her honeymoon with her husband. "You can go after 10 years if you have the heart." She also bluntly said that she would not refuse to shoot small romantic films, but she would definitely ask his husband for his opinion first. "If a scene involves a bed or nudity, I will definitely ask him for his opinion first because this will directly affect his feelings. I want to respect him first." * (2025/03/27) Best Actress Jennifer Yu Heung Ying, Raymond Lam Fung and Venus Wong Man Yik starred in the film LIVING TO WIN (MIN SI DUT GUNG DUI) earlier wrapped up production. Jennifer had a lot of feelings about working with the two partners this time, especially since she and Venus have crossed path on THE SECRET DIARY OF A MOM TO BE (BABY FOOK SAU GEI) 6 years ago. Now they have changed from girls to wives. "I am even Mommy to two children, so the change has been drastic. Earlier when I worked with Venus I already felt that she was great, very direct personality. This time in the movie everyone is playing mommy. Although in reality she isn't yet, but because she has babysat her little brother everyone have a lot to talk about. I also think that our performance has more sparkle than before. Venus has a few scenes that are very touching, and I look forward to seeing her performance on the big screen." She also pointed out that when she was filming THE SECRET DIARY OF A MOM TO BE, she sang the theme song with Venus and other leads. She hoped to have the opportunity to sing the theme song of the movie with the others again this time. As for working with Lam Fung, Jennifer described him as "super nice". "Although I haven't seen him in person many times, only met at some Spring Banquets; but when he arrived at the scene, I really can say we really hit it off and had a lot of chemistry in terms of roles. Maybe because he and I are both parents, we have experienced a lot of what's in the script in reality; so I enjoy interacting with them. He is so famous, but he is still very humble and hardworking. He is well worth learning from. He is the actor and male singer I admire so much, and I hope to grab the tickets of his concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum in May, haha!" This is not only a piece of history of Hong Kong art and culture, but also the most important milestone of Rebecca's oeuvre. This work used the Broadway musical model to adapt the famous Chinese myth Legend of the White Snake. Bringing together Eastern and Western theatrical styles, the production combined Chinese traditional music, dance, costume and stage design with modern Western concepts. Despite this bold attempt, the resulting work was ahead of its time and was not a commercial success. Also, it was thought to have not been captured on film and faded into obscurity. In April, 2023, however, a partial film record of the performance was miraculously discovered. The restored surviving footage has become the finale of this documentary, Pai Niang Niang: The Last Osmanthus Blossom. This documentary is directed by director Wong Tsui-wah, Isabel. During the years of observation and excavation, Isabel has been looking for various aspects of Pai Niang Niang, and through this documentary, she recorded every detail of Pai Niang Niang. PIERCE d. Fate draws her to a local church infested with illicit drug-dealing activities. She soon realizes her connection to that church is more personal than expected as there's a link to her family's past. Should she simply stay in the shadows and pray for a miracle, or put her karate chops to good use? An rejuvenated ode to both THE KARATE KID and the action heroines of Hong Kong's Golden Age, the latest from director Ricky Ko after his award-winning TIME (Fantasia 2021) once again nicely combines nostalgia and modernity with a potent mix of martial arts, humour, sweetness, and compelling characters, OUT OF THE SHADOW offers a guaranteed good time, a reminder of why we love HK movies so much in the first place. Patrick Tam, in a performance of searing intensity, breathes life into a character confronted with the ghosts of his outlaw past, and clinging to hope for rebuilding his fractured life and finding new purpose. Chan, the acclaimed writer of the "Ip Man" franchise, infuses the film with a sense of hard-bitten optimism, suggesting that even in the darkest of times, an indomitable spirit can light the path to a better tomorrow. His services become a hit with everyone except a crotchety conservative Taoist priest, Master Man, who is unconvinced that Dominic is committed to spiritual care. Thus Dominic digs into all of the details of deathcare while discovering Man’s dedication to the dead means he disregards his nearest and dearest. Filmed in funeral homes in Hong Kong's Hung Hom district, the film has a ring of authenticity while delivering whip-smart verbal comedy via Michael HUI and Dayo WONG as a mismatched pair. From there, it opens up into a more considered look at the Taoist influence in Hong Kong’s funeral rituals and a fascinating family drama that explores how gender roles are affected by these traditions. [ HAWAII INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] Starring current Hong Kong comedy king Dayo Wong and comedy legend Michael Hui, THE LAST DANCE is the story of a debt-ridden wedding planner who finds unexpected success as a funeral planner, but he has to win over a traditional Taoist priest to stay in the business...The pandemic has sent most industries into recession. Mired in debt, wedding planner Dominic gets a miraculous chance to turn things around when a funeral planner retires and passes the baton to him. Planning weddings and funerals are polar opposites, but Dominic puts his all into his new job, from opening graves, digging coffins, to handling the deceased. No matter how unpleasant it gets, he takes on everything with gusto. However, the biggest obstacle is getting the approval of respected Taoist priest, Master Man. In his 70s, Master Man is a traditional man who has devoted his life to his Taoist faith. He wants to pass the mantle to his son, Ben, but Ben is more devoted to his wife and kids than to Taoism. Master Man's daughter, Yuet, respects her father greatly. However, since her ancestors dictated that women are filthy by nature, Yuet doesn't take romantic relationships seriously. One day, he hops into a random cab and encounters Choi, the cab driver. Man finds Choi's condition deeply disturbing but is unable to express his concern during the short cab ride. A few day later, the two men cross paths again. Choi has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation due to his alleged involvement in reckless driving, and Man is assigned to his case. Man quickly realizes that Choi struggles to differentiate between dreams and reality. He constantly sees "devils". Awake or not, his mind can never rest; his body continues to waste away. As hopeless as Choi's condition seems, Man is determined to get to the bottom of his story. As Choi's story unfolds, Man begins to experience disturbing and perplexing dreams.
