MISCELLANEOUS * (2024/12/04) Sean Lau Ching Wan, Jo Koo (Kok Cho Lam) and young actors Dylan So Man To and Lainey Hung Yeuk Yi, Tam Yuk Ying and director Philip Yung Tsz Kwong attended the premiere of the movie PAPA the night before. Lau Ching Wan praised the film industry for its many newcomers with ideas and momentum. Hong Kong films are not dead, and the future is promising. The movie was well received. Lau Ching Wan said that the audience definitely would not be disappointed, his wife Amy Kwok Oi Ming also praised it and even cried after watching it. Was he in charge of handing out tissues? Ching Wan joked, "She should have it ready herself! However the film was really touching but not sensational. If you go to see it and you're not happy, you can watch it again. When you are no longer unhappy from watching it, you have relief. However if you aren't unhappy after watching it, you should watch it a few more times. If you still don't feel anything that proves you don't have anything to be unhappy about, so you have to look for happiness soon. It would be better than looking for happiness when you are unhappy. This is the function of the existence of the theater." Kok Cho Lam also agreed that the movie did not sell tragedy and would not make people bust out crying; on the contrary it was very positive and heartfelt. If you watched it once you might miss some spots, so you must watch it again. She said that she would let her daughters watch PAPA. "They are too little and should wait until they are older. My husband can watch several more times." In the film Ching Wan performed with his back naked, has his wife praised him for his good figure after watching it? Ching Wan joked, "Oh, no! Do you think she doesn't know my figure, and has to watch the movie to find out? I almost fell for your trap!" Ching Wan even joked that he did not particularly train to get into shape, because he was already a "heavenly beauty"; and the character in the film was just in an ordinary person's shape. However his on screen wife Kok Cho Lam also praised Ching Wan for being in good enough shape. Ching Wan's performance in PAPA once again triggered Best Actor -level acting skills, along with Hui Koon Man's superb performance in THE LAST DANCE he was seen as the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor nomination favorites. Ching Wan humbly said that it was too early to say since the movie has not yet been officially released, but if he truly would be able to be nominated with Hui Koon Man, a senior who has always been respected, it would be an honor and worth remembering. Referring to the box office of THE LAST DANCE breaking through 110 million and ranking second in the box office record of Hong Kong films, Ching Wan said that although he has not yet gone to the show, he felt that this was a good impact. "Everyone can see that Hong Kong films have good movies, with sincerity and substance; unlike Hong Kong films are dead like everyone says. For example when I made PAPA, the staff were all very young. Perhaps their parents were in the film business, everyone was so impulsive and energetic at work; they had their own ideas and politeness, so Hong Kong movies were not in decline, they could do a lot!" This year had two movies with a box office of more than 100 million, did he have box office pressure on his new film? Ching Wan bluntly said no, he was already happy to be able to make a entertaining movie. Everyone had something positive so no one should be envious of others, the success of other films was a good thing. Playing the "adult Hau Ming" in the film, Edan Lui Cheuk On two nights ago made a surprise appearance at the audience appreciation show with the "young Hau Ming" So Man To. The audience was surprised to see how much they looked alike and so did their on screen Mama Kok Cho Lam. Lui Chek On joked that he only had the chance to perform due to his resemblance to So Man To and had to thank him. Yung Tsz Kwong said that the biggest diiference was hat the adult "Hau Ming" was much taller. So Man To also thanked Edan for playing the role of Hau Ming and joked, "He fulfilled one of my dreams, to be 10cm taller." Edan said, "Relax, you can still grow taller!" Edan thanked director Yung Tsz Kwong for giving him the opportunity to participate in PAPA and work with Lau Ching Wan. He admitted that he hesitated before taking the role, not over the size of the role but how difficult it was. He was afraid that he would not perform well. "I was very afraid of affecting the film. Honestly, everyone have watched for over 100 minutes then suddenly seen Edan! I was very worried that there would be such a problem, and I was afraid that I wouldn't handle the role well." He was grateful that he grasped the opportunity and benefit a lot from the process. PAPA's story was based on the 2010 Tsuen Wan mother and daughter murder case. Yung Tsz Kwong once revealed in an interview that 10 years through Mary Jean Reimer (Yung Jing Jing) and Leung Yiu Chung he met Papa Kan from the case. Yung Jing Jing earlier on the online program mentioned PAPA. "I can only say that the story of the film is very different from reality. The director also says that because he wants to add in dramatic elements, it wouldn't completely reflect the truth." In order to avoid affecting the film, she would wait to comment on the film until after its release. She hoped that the outside would give Papa Kan space. "He has already started life anew, moved to a place where no one would recognize him. He doesn't want to be like before, when everyone who sees him would ask, 'Are you OK?' 'Are you still good?' 'Anything I can help you with?' He knew that everyone cared, but this way he would not be able to come out and live life anew." * (2024/12/04) A member of the guy group MIRROR, Edan Lui Cheuk On since confessing his love for the Malaysian goddess Lin Minchen has become a "ill fated couple" with her. Edan was accused of a large number of "fan resignation" and being taken advantage of, while Lin Minchen's new film WISH COMES TRUE (BA HUNG FOOK LA GUNG YUT DIM) did not perform well at the box office, with only 6 figures over 18 days of its release, far from the 20 million box office target of co-star Ling Man Lung! Some online felt bad for Lin Minchen. "The movie was born at the wrong time; running into the two big Hong Kong films and a big foreign films were hit, the theater merchants didn't give them any room for release. With almost zero publicity, the results were expected." However, Lin Minchen was not discouraged as she promoted another new ghost film on social media networks. She also promised fans that she would attend the premiere in Kuala Lumpur. Who knows whether Edan would have the time for a "in the flesh delivery" and book a show to show his support? * (2024/12/04) The film THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) has had good news after good news after its release. As of 4 p.m. yesterday, the total box office revenue of Hong Kong and Macao was HK$115 million -- second in the history of Hong Kong films in the box office. The film also won four awards at the 61st Asia-Pacific Film Festival held in Malaysia on the 1st of this month, with "Best Director" Anselm Chan Mou Yin, "Best Actress" Michelle Wai Sze Nga, "Best Editing" Curran Pang Chung Hei and "Best Art Direction" Yman Yiu Hon Man sharing their feelings about winning the award yesterday. After Wai Sze Nga won the 39th Huading Award for Best Chinese Film and Television Actress with THE LAST DANCE, she won the Asia-Pacific Best Actress and cried when she received the award on stage. Wai Sze Nga admitted that she was very happy to win, but just returning to Hong Kong last night she would have to fly to Melbourne for a film festival in Australia. She would attend audience appreciation shows to thank the viewers. She said that a few days ago, she received a message from a North American viewer, who said that she has not yet been able to see the film. Sze Nga also hoped that the film could go further in the near future. At this time, director Chan Mou Yin complained that Wai Sze Nga was the only representative everywhere, and no one brought the director to participate. Wai Sze Nga had no choice but to reassure him. "I am really happy but also very tired. The last time I came back from the film festival, because it was 1 o'clock in the morning, I actually went back to the wrong house in another building. There were a lot of high heels at the door, and the carpet was not the same. When I took the elevator back I realized that I was in the wrong building. Luckily I didn't ring the doorbell." Returning from attending the Asia-Pacific Film Festival the night before, as soon as she entered the house her fiancé actually said, "He was saying to the dog who is this? Don't bite her. He was complaining about not seeing me in a very long time!" Chan Mou Yin won the Best Director at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival for THE LAST DANCE. It was also Chan Mou in's first "Best Director" award. He admitted that he was very happy to win the award, but a new day started after winning the award. He hoped that more audiences would continue to watch the film and continue to break the record. "Like Wong Tze Wah said, when we break hell we will continue to break the box office record. I don't dare to talk about confidence, but Tze Wah is the darling of the audience." He started to edit the extended version of the movie last night. The current version is more than 120 minutes long, and he has filmed more than 160 minutes in total. This time he hoped to edit as much as what he shot into the film, and definitely would add back Kaki Sham's role. * (2024/12/04) The Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Raymond Wong Pak Ming co-produced, Yen directed and starred new action blockbuster THE PROSECUTOR (NG POON) would be officially released on the 21st of this month during the Christmas prime time. Yesterday the new version of the movie trailer was released, with Yen Chi Tan and Francis Ng Chun Yu's wonderful performances in conflict. More star-studded lineups in the film were revealed, including Julian Cheung Chi Lam's new appearance of the suspected villain; in the role of a young detective, MC Cheung Tin Fu had even more scenes for the preview; in the role of the chief justice, Michael Hui Koon Man reprimanded everyone to show his majesty, filling the audience with expectations for the movie. THE PROSECUTOR was adapted from real events. Yen Chi Tan played the role of prosecutor Fok Tsz Ho, who pursued the truth by risking his life. The crisis was lurking outside the courtroom, the interests of all parties involved behind the case were caught in the pursuit of underworld forces. Every punch and kick was full of the contrast and tension of the character's civil and military affairs, the trailer showed that crises were coming one after another. Fok Tsz Ho, who is bent on finding out the unjust case, was suppressed by his colleagues in the courtroom and caught in a bloody storm outside the courtroom. A highly combustible duel for justice was about to be unveiled. * (2024/12/03) The two-time Hong Kong Film Awards Best Screenplay winner Mak Tin Shu directed, Fish Liew Chi Yu, Michael Ning (Bak Ji), Rachel Leung Yung Ting, Larine Tang Yueping, Mak Pui Tung and Ng Wing Sze starred TOO MANY WAYS TO BE NO. 2 (YUT GOR BO MOON DIK DAN SUN) held its production start ceremony yesterday. Liew Chi Yu dyed her hair blue and bleached her eyebrows, Leung Yung Ting got a crew cut, and Tang Yueping in order to play Mama also performed without make up and with freckles on her face. Liew Chi Yu played the role of an anime otaku, and the style should have the feeling of a comic character. She praised the high amount of "gold" in this combination, and the collaboration has been very happy. "The shoot has been going on for a few days. Everyone is trapped in one place, and the centripetal force is very strong". She laughed at herself for being slow minded. Whenever Bak Ji discussed the script with the director, she eavesdropped on the side to learn. "I'm here to collect money and learn this time." Bak Ji said that he, Liew Chi Yu and others were trapped in the customer service center by a bitter client who could not cut his service. Then it turned into a kidnapping incident, policewoman Leung Yung Ting led a team to the rescue. He mainly played dramatic scenes, as all the action scenes fell on Tai Yuk Kei and Mak Pui Tung. "This time had more table reads than previous movies, and I was arranged to rehearse the blocks in the factory location before filming." With a crew cut, Leung Yung Ting was eye-catching. She said that she has never tried short hair since she was one year old. "Super cool, super happy, now washing my hair can be done in 10 seconds; but my boyfriend jokes that hugging me is like hugging a boy, the feeling is like dating a boy. (Were you reluctant to cut your hair short?) At first I thought I would be reluctant; but when it came to cutting, I was not reluctant at all because the role is very suitable for this short hair. In addition I have had long hair for 30 years, the change is also a good thing." She had to wield a gun in the film and even look cool. She has practiced countless times before filming. She joked that she usually had to "puff up" her chest and pose normally, but this time she put the padding on her shoulder to make the character more imposing. New to the role of a mother, Tang Yueping praised the director for seeing her knack for taking care of people, "I am a Mommy type. I usually like to take care of my friends, but just from my appearance you might not think of that. I hope to date and get married earlier, but they haven't been successful in the reality. Realizing them in a movie is also a happy thing." She also did not mind appearing without her makeup, "It's very difficult to be a mother, not having time to take care of herself. I instead asked the director, does my hair need to be a little drier?" * (2024/12/03) The 72-year-old Hong Kong action film superstar known as "Big Brother Big", Sammo Hung Kam Bo stepped into the film industry at the age of 9 and has been in the film industry for more than 60 years. Earlier he gave the Tokyo International Film Festival Master Class and spoke to the media. Self-deprecating as loving to "BS" and having limited ability, Hung Kam Bo's love of the movies has never changed, especially for action movies. Seeing that Hong Kong films have fallen from the golden age in the 1980s to the trough in the 2000s, and the novel coronavirus pandemic has once again brought the industry into a cold winter, he could not help but lament, "It's so painful". What could be done? Hung Kam Bo said that he could only pin his hope on the younger generation. Regarding the different opinions that Hong Kong films are often said to be "dead", "entering a cold winter" or "showing a small spring", Hung Kam Bo said, "It's actually very painful." Yet in the midst of the pain he still felt there was hope. "Hong Kong young people still have a passion for Hong Kong films. They must not give up, we must rely on the support of a new generation of filmmakers. Film used to be a big deal in Hong Kong. If you go anywhere in Southeast Asia, even the United States, you know that Hong Kong films are quite a big deal; we had our glory, but now we are in trouble." Regarding the reasons for the lack of Hong Kong films, Hung Kam Bo said that the industry atmosphere was poor, there were many variables due to cultural differences with the mainland. With the novel coronavirus pandemic the film industry has been brought to a halt; the current predicament was the worst period since he entered the industry. "Worse than when counterfeits were rampant; People who sold counterfeits made money, but the film industry didn't come to a standstill; while the government has done a lot, its help has been limited." Hung Kam Bo agreed that the film and television streaming platforms have stolen a lot of cinema audiences, "Nowadays as long as you have a mobile phone, you can watch the movie anywhere. It seems that Netflix has a lot of good movies, and the price is cheap. A movie ticket isn't cheap in Hong Kong. If you buy something to eat, it is really expensive. If you buy a ticket and get two hamburgers and add a cup of milk tea, many people would go to the theater to watch the movie. Now even a hamburger is so expensive." Hung Kam Bo said that he rarely went to the theater anymore. "I really shouldn't want to talk about others, I myself am like this; watching movies on streaming platforms at home." When asked what type of movies would be suitable for Hong Kong at present, Hung Kam Bo slapped his thigh and said that he did not know. "If I knew, I would have made them!" In recent years many realistic feature films have won word of mouth. He did not think they were bad, only slower in gaining popularity. The popularity of action movies was stronger. "When you watch TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN, the content is exciting, the story and characters are good, and the production cost is huge, so it is entertaining. Unfortunately not every movie has more than 100 million in production budgets to shoot. I hope that TWILIGHT can start up he Hong Kong film industry, but it still remains to be seen. I hope that bosses of film companies will win the Mark Six lottery a few more times; if they win 100 million or 80 million, they can make a few more movies. Hong Kong movies used to be so glorious, but now they are like this; I really want to cry." He hoped that Hong Kong filmmakers would not give up, add in creativity, and continue to work; but he stressed that "action movies are the biggest deal and the most valuable", citing TWILIGHT as an example. Hung Kam Bo is not only an actor, but also a film company owner. He has co-founded 4 film companies with friends, and his films have been hits and misses. Hung Kam Bo said: "Over the years I have seen many peers lose money in film. I have also lost a lot, several films together around tens of millions of dollars; but I wouldn't remember which one lost money, if I would my heart would ache." He said that he was never afraid of losing money when he invested in films before, "Because I love movies, I still continue to make them even when I lose money!" Hung Kam Bo has been in the industry for many years and had no shortage of film awards, winning the Hong Kong Films Award for Best Actor for CARRY ON PICKPOCKET (TAI FONG SIU SAU) and PAINTED FACES (CHUT SIU FOOK), with THE PRODIGAL SON (BAI GA JAI), the first IP MAN films and PARADOX (SAT POR LONG TAM LONG) he has won four Best Action Choreography; he has directed dozens of movies, the LUCKY STARS film series, the Jackie Chan starred MR. NICE GUY (YUT GOR HO YUN) were all big hits; but he did not win after nominated for the Best Director at the Hong Kong Awards with THE PRODIGAL SON and HEART OF DRAGON (LUNG DIK SUM). Did he want to win this award? He said frankly, "It's not that I want to, but I really want to!" He said that he has even received the Lifetime Achievement Award, the only one missing was the best director. He did not shy away from saying that he wants to direct again, but there were many things to consider, "My current mentality is different from the past. I used to be so positive and impulsive, but now I don't have the heart to fight; going with the flow on everything. It would be the best for someone to ask me to direct, but there won't be free lunches now. I'm just talking nonsense a lot of the time now, I don't have the ability to do it." Hung Kam Bo revealed that many stories have failed to start production, such as period costume war films. Hung Kam Bo was a Beijing Opera apprentice under Yu Jim Yuen, the eldest brother of Seven Little Fortunes. He has also practiced taekwondo, Wing Chun, and began to be a martial art stuntman at the age of 18. To be able to be called an action film superstar he also had to have his own style. He said, "My style is cute, fat, the fattest action movie star. Actually I have been lucky; the audience loves me. I don't think I'm special. I can be whatever you want me to be." As for whether he will start a class to teach apprentices and pass on what he has learned, Hung Kam Bo said, "Where would the successor come from?" He said that there are no action movie to be made, so how could we talk about succession. TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN was well received, which seemed to bring a ray of light to Hong Kong-made action films. With the announcement of a prequel and a sequel, would Hung Kam Bo participate? He said of course he was interested, "If you pay I will work, I won't be driven away by the stench of money." He also said that what he plays, what he fights, or how much the screen time, nothing mattered and was all up to the director; as for how the role would be played, he joked, "Perhaps a bed scene, I haven't done one before. It's novel enough." Hung am Bo said that what pleased him the most about TWILIGHT was giving rise to the new generation of actors. He praised their good performance, and the director should also take credit. Hung Kam Bo is 72 years old and walks with a cane, but he is in good spirits and has no intention of retiring. "Actually I really want to continue working, but I am a little disappointed in Hong Kong movies; it is difficult to pick up the energy and work. I am interested in acting, but before taking on the role I must know what the role does. There is no work planned for the time being. Many people have asked me to make a cameo appearance for a few days, we are still in negotiation." Hung Kam Bo married Miss Hong Kong Joyce Godenzi (Go Lai Hung) in 1995, next year will be their 30th anniversary. On the day of the interview, Hung Kam Bo first attended a seminar, then the Hong Kong Film Development Council and the Cultural and Creative Affairs Department organized party as well as interviews with a number of media outlets. When this interview started, it was already past 7 p.m., was he very tired?. He said bluntly, "Yes, very tired." Staying by his side, Go Lai Hung immediately handed over the hot tea and gave him a cushion. Hung Kam Bo was very obedient to his wife. when Go Lai Hung asked him to sit up straight when taking pictures, he immediately straightened his back and smiled. When Go Lai Hung proposed to change the work arrangements, Hung Kam Bo immediately said, "It doesn't matter, your call." He thoroughly showed respect for your wife. * (2024/12/03) The night before the "61st Asia-Pacific Film Festival" was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (December 1), martial arts superstar Sammo Hung Kam Bo was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement Award". Hung Kam Bo advised future generations to bravely chase their dreams and never say quit easily; Raymond Wong Pak Ming was awarded the Asia-Pacific Outstanding Filmmaker Award in recognition of his lifelong dedication to film. Wong Pak Ming modestly said that he still needed to work hard. THE LAST DANCE defeated a number of Asian films to stand out and win four awards, Michelle Wai Sze Nga did not disappoint and won the "Best Actress". After the victory, she got choked up and thanked director Anselm Chan Mou Yin for his appreciation, and sincerely wished that the film could go even further; Chan was overjoyed to win the "Best Director" award. Toiling in the Hong Kong film industry for over 60 years, Sammo Hung received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to the promotion and leadership of Hong Kong martial arts films. "Cinema is a wonderful profession, you can work day and night, you can shoot summer scenes in winter, shoot winter scenes in summer, shoot half a day or even longer for a shot; this kind of perseverance and dedication fascinates me. From when I started making movie, I have loved it fully every single day so I have never felt roughed up. Instead I have been enjoying it. I feel very relieved and grateful for this award, because I feel that I am a very lucky person who can make my dream a lifelong career. Although this is not the golden age of movies, I hope that the future generations who love movies must persevere, do not give up easily, and I wish everyone their dreams would come true!" Commenting on the award, Wong Pak Ming modestly said on stage, "For me, this award is an encouragement to me for struggling in the film industry for more than 40 years. In the 80s of the last century, there was HAPPY GHOST (HOI SUN GWAI), in the 90s of the last century, there was ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL (GA YAU HEI SI), and after 2000, there was the IP MAN series. My movie report card is average, for me I can answer to myself." He became popular because of his cover of PILLOW TALK a while ago and joked on stage, "Let's not be nostalgic for the past, we have to look forward to the future. So I don't sing UNDER THE LION ROCK recently, I sing PILLOW TALK." Drawing laughter from the audience, he continued, "In this ever-changing world where technology is ever-changing, we should make use of technology in making films. I believe that our films will be even better in the future. People live and learn even in old age, and Duke Tai Jiang met King Wen at the age of 80 before he made great achievements. Yours truly is not yet 80 years old and still has room for improvement, so I still need to work hard." As of 8 a.m. yesterday, THE LAST DANCE's box office has reached HK$112 million, ranking second among the highest-grossing Chinese-language films in Hong Kong's history and becoming the highest-grossing Hong Kong-made film in Hong Kong this year. In addition to the strong box office performance in Hong Kong, many overseas regions have also reported successes; including becoming the third highest-grossing Hong Kong film in the history of the UK and Ireland. The night before, directors Chan Mou Yin and Wai Sze Nga flew to Malaysia on behalf of the team to attend the gala event. They even won four awards at the awards ceremony, including director Chan Mou Yin for the "Best Director"; William Cang Suk Ping and Curran Pang Ching Hei for "Best Editing"; Yman Yiu Hon Man for Best Art Direction. The most competitive award was the "Best Actress", as Wai Sze Nga and HOW TO MAKE MILLIONS BEFORE GRANDMA DIES' grandmother Usha Seamkhum were among the top five at the same time. Finally Wai Sze Nga lived up to the expectations to win the "Best Actress" and got choked up on the stage as she thanked director Chan Mou Yin. "This award means a lot to me, it represents a report card for my 16 years of never giving up my dreams. I hope through this award to let more people know that Wai Sze Nga is an actor. Thank you Director (Chan Mou Yin) for not giving up on me when I was going to give up on myself. Thank you to everyone who loves THE LAST DANCE, and thank you to Hong Kong movies!" Director Chan Mou Yin was overjoyed to win the award, pointing out that THE LAST DANCE has been a wonderful journey since the start of filming as Tze Wah god has said, sincerely thanked audiences around the world for their support and encouragement, and sincerely wished the film to be able to go even further. The director and Wai Sze Nga also personally congratulated the martial arts superstar Sammo Hung Kam Bo who won the Lifetime Achievement Award and took a photo. At noon yesterday, the Malaysian distributor quickly held a celebration party for the team of THE LAST DANCE, opened more champagne to celebrate the team's award and announced that the Malaysian box office has exceeded RM10 million. * (2024/12/03) Louis Koo Tin Lok (Goo Jai) and Charmaine Sheh Sze Man (Ah Sheh) attended Hong Kong's largest panda exhibition "Panda Go! Hong Kong Tour" at the airport. The duo kicked off the event as panda tour guides and appeared with 2,500 pandas, while Goo Jai and Ah Sheh were presented with panda dolls in the shape of "Tornado" from TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN and "Sister Man" from QUEEN OF NEWS. Goo Jai said that for over a decade ago he participated in animal conservation activities and came in close contact with pandas at Ocean Park, which was a rare opportunity. He said that he loved pandas, but some of his friends have been watching a pair of pandas that were born in Hong Kong for the last 24 hours. That felt a little crazy. Ah Sheh pointed out that everyone might treat the little pandas as their own babies, but she felt that pandas were really cute and had a kind of affinity. Everyone wanted to hold them tightly. "The two previous pandas were named 'Ying Ying' and 'Lok Lok', the same as my friends. So I visited them." The duo also made a number of short videos with humans dressed as pandas, which will be released in the future. Goo Jai has been working on a film recently but could not disclose the details yet. He said that in fact, whether it is a movie or a TV series, as long as there was a suitable role, he would take them. The last time Goo Jai and Ah Sheh collaborated were on the movies TRIUMPH IN THE SKIES (CHUNG SEUNG WON SIU) and ALWAYS BE WITH YOU (YUM YEUNG LO JI SEUNG JOI NEI JOR YAU), Ah Sheh said with a smile that the ALWAYS was also the only movie of hers that she dared not watch. "I was not afraid when I was filming, but I was afraid of watching ghost movies. I covered my eyes and didn't dare to watch it at the premiere." Yesterday the two appeared from the plane cabin. Were they reminded of filming TRIUMPH IN THE SKIES together? Goo Jai smiled and said, "I thought of it, it's great!" When will the two be able to work together again? Goo Jai said that it would depend on a good script and the needs of the market, with suitable roles he could work. Ah Sheh suggested for Goo Jai to recruit scripts. * (2024/12/02) With the subject of Hong Kong's funeral industry, the Michael Hui Koon Man, Dayo Wong Tze Wah, Michelle Wai Sze Nga, Rosa Velasco (Wai Law Sha) and others starred Hong Kong film THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK)'s box office trend has been fierce. The movie has been released for 3 weeks and yesterday the official Ig of THE LAST DANCE announced that its box office has broken HK$ 110 million, ranking second among the highest-grossing Chinese-language films in Hong Kong history, and becoming the highest-grossing Hong Kong film in Hong Kong this year. The box office of THE LAST DANCE is expected to surpass A GUILTY CONSCIENCE (DUK SIT DAI JONG), which also starred Wong Tze Wah, and its HK$115 million record. Driven by the movie boom, the Lux Theatre in Hung Hom has become a popular viewing place for viewers who valued a sense of ceremony. Hong Kong's first domestic film with a local box office of over HK$ 100 million, A GUILTY CONSCIENCE (DUK SIT DAI JONG), was released in 2023 and broke the 100 million mark on the 32nd day of release with a final box office of HK$ 115 million. Currently it was the highest grossing Chinese film in Hong Kong history, but THE LAST DANCE has also been on the march. The box office has exceeded HK$ 110 million as of the deadline, further approaching the box office championship throne. TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) broke 100 million mark on the 40th day of its release, setting a box office of HK$107 million, but was forced to fall to third place by the imposing THE LAST DANCE. When the creators of THE LAST DANCE went to the theater a few days ago to thank the audience, director Chan Mou Yin promised to launch an extended version if THE LAST DANCE broke a record box office. Seemingly this promise would soon be fulfilled, as viewers expressed their anticipation. It is worth mentioning that THE LAST DANCE will be released in the mainland on December 14th. TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN became a hot topic when it was released in the mainland, collecting 684 million yuan RMB and making many mainland online posts declaring "Hong Kong films are back!" At present, THE LAST DANCE has been highly discussed on mainland social media platforms. Some mainland viewers were even attracted by the unique film subject of THE LAST DANCE and came to Hong Kong to have a sneak peek. Seemingly THE LAST DANCE would perhaps perform well at the mainland box office. As THE LAST DANCE became a hit, Hung Hom, where the funeral industry was concentrated in, also became a hot spot for viewers; especially Hung Hom's Lux Theatre. The promotional copy began to build momentum at the beginning of the release, and the Lux Theatre posted a story. "The representative work of Hung Hom District, Hung Hom people #YouKnow". Viewers who attach importance to ritual were roused to go to the Hung Hom Lux Theatre to watch THE LAST DANCE. Some online shared the experience of watching the movie in the old-fashioned cinema and believed that the Hung Hom Lux Theatre was the best place to watch THE LAST DANCE. "Walking into the cinema, it was like traveling back to the time when adults brought me to the movies when I was a child. The classic renovation style, the tiles of the times, and posters of THE FUN, THE LUCK AND THE TYCOON (GUT SING GUNG JIU) and DUKE OF MOUNT DEER (LUK DING GEI) that remained on the walls. Stepping into the Lux Theatre, you would feel the unique sense of the times and the charm of story." * (2024/12/02) Danny Lee Sau Yin, John Chiang Dai Wai, Chin Siu Ho, Ting Yu, Koni Lui Wai Yee, Susan Shaw Yam Yam, Jojo Cho Chuen and others attended the press conference of the late "Aunt Six" Mona Fong Yat Wah's cousin and famous Shaw Brothers producer Wong Ka Hei's new book "Wong Ka Hei's Years as a Shaw Brothers Producer" yesterday. Lee Sau Yin said that he has known Wong Ka Hei for decades, and when he intended to write a book, he invited Lee to help write the preface. Lee praised him for solving difficult problems for the boss and actors when he was working at Shaw Brothers, and he was a good person who never lost his temper. Lee Sau Yin recalled that after graduating from the training class in 1971, he joined Shaw Brothers and the normal salary was only HK$ 500. He said that it was not enough to support his family and planned to change jobs. Fong Yat Wah raised it to HK$ 750 to keep him. "I told Wong Ka Hei that I wanted to support my family, HK$ 500 was not enough. He helped me get HK$ 750 a month. No, this was a secret. Of course I didn't go around and tell everyone I got HK$250 more. No one knew how much the others were making. My salary wasn't considered high. The highest salary must be lead actors like Brother John (Chiang Dai Wai) and Brother Lung (Ti Lung)." Lee Sau Yin said that Wong Ka Hei was responsible for helping the company solve problems, and said with a smile, "Miss (Mona) Fang Yat Wah would look to him whenever she had any strange and miscellaneous problems, so he was taking a beating everyday because the actors wanted raises, the props did not have enough staff. He had to solve the problems of all parties, but he truly couldn't be a nicer person. He never complained for decades at Shaws. Whenever we felt anything was unreasonable, he would appear. I couldn't hit him even if I wanted to, he was too thin. In addition he put a lot of effort into solving problems. After some actors became famous they would call in sick and not work, he would comfort them and ask the company to give them pay raises. Although everyone called him the boss, but he was actually a miscellaneous worker." Lee Sau Yin said frankly that he no longer had the acting bug; he mainly rested and went wherever he wants, but he did not like to fly. He liked to go to Lantau Island for exercises the most. He smiled and said, "Hiking is not the same as trail running, I am not the Fat Gor (Chow Yun Fat) type, but sometimes I would bump into him when hiking in Sai Kung." Did Lee Sau Yin he still have businesses? He said frankly that they ended after the pandemic, firstly it was difficult to do business, and secondly he did not know how to do business. He also handed it over to his nephew to take care of it before. Just returned to Hong Kong from promoting in the mainland, Koni Lui Wai Yee turned out to be one of Wong Ka-hei's god daughters. She said that she knew her Godfather through her ex-husband, and her son "Crab Roe" was also his god grandson. She said, "Godfather often asks us to go to his house for dinner. Although I am in TVB and he works at Shaw Brothers, he still shares a lot of outlook on life and cheers me up for work. I like to go to his house to have 'Wong Family meals' the most." Lui Wai Yee praised Godfather for having friends all over the world. His godchildren would gather together for every major holiday, the scene was spectacular and also proved that Godfather was an admirable and respected elder. * (2024/12/02) Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui, Amy Lo Wai Man and Fish Liew Chi Yu promoted the new film AN ABANDONED TEAM (DUT CHUNG SIN SUN), during which Cheng Tan Shui revealed that Amy did nothing to help when he fainted from heat stroke during filming in an open-air kennel. He recalled, "It was more than 30 degrees (Celsius), very sunny, suddenly everything went dark in front of me and 'bang' I hit the floor. Later the staff told me that the distance between me and the curb was very small. If I hit it, that would be "it"! She (Amy) just looked at me, and I saw the warmth and coldness of human nature." Amy explained that it was a misunderstanding. Because Cheng Tan Shui often improvised, she thought that he was pretending to faint. "At that time I thought, 'He is exaggerating' and the director hasn't yelled cut yet, I continued to play my own part. I was reminded (Stephen) Chow Sing Chi's line 'When the director hasn't yelled 'cut' yet, you have to keep acting!'" Only when she saw no response from Cheng Tan Shui she realized that something was wrong. Cheng Tan Shui said, "You don't care about human life, Chow Sing Chi didn't teach you to do nothing when you see someone in trouble!" * (2024/12/01) Louis Koo Tin Lok (Goo Jai), Mrs. Joseph Lau Luen Hung Chan Hoi Wan (Kimbee) and her daughters Lau Sau Wah, Louisa Mak Ming Sze, Alya Sham Yuet and others dressed up to attend the formal party the night before, and Koo Tin Lok was awarded the "Diamond Achievement Award" in recognition of his achievements in the film industry. Speaking of the Anselm Chan Mou Yin directed movie THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK), after 20 days in release its total box office in Hong Kong and Macao the day before yesterday has broken through the HK$ 100 million mark. It was expected to move towards a box office of 150 million to hit a new high. Invested in TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUN SING JAI JI WAI SING), Goo Jai hoped that THE LAST DANCE will surpass TWILIGHT AND that the industry will work together to create another peak of Hong Kong films. Reportedly Goo Jai's One Cool Group invested TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN has accumulated a global box office of more than US$ 110 million (about HK$850 million), ranked second in the box office of Chinese films in Hong Kong film history, and set a record for the highest number of attendees of nearly 1.7 million. Speaking of the box office of the movie THE LAST DANCE exceeded 100 million and surpassed WARRIORS OF FUTURE (MING YUT JIN GEI) for third place at the box office of Chinese films. Not yet had time to watch THE LAST DANCE, Koo Tin Lok said, "Of course those who make movies want to do well at the box office, and they have to set off firecrackers on joyous occasions. Even if they surpass TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN, it is no problem. The best would be for everyone to surpass each other." Just finished filming the Lunar New Year film HIT N FUN (LUM SI KUET DAU), Koo Tin Lok remembered that the production of this film encountered three typhoons in two weeks. Although the production progress was not affected, but the indoor shoot encountered water leakage. Muay Thai fighting in the film, Koo Tin Lok revealed that he has the most scenes with German Cheung Man Kit. "Cheung Man Kit was injured already from fighting on the first day, maybe the cold weather and not knowing his own strength caused muscle tears. Even walking became a problem. He was very professional though, as he worked full 3 days with his injuries." Did Koo Tin Lok used all his strength when filming? He joked: "We are just making movies, not taking lives." As for whether he had confidence in the box office of the Lunar New Year film, Koo Tin Lok said, "I definitely have confidence in the ones I make, the most important thing is that everyone is happy from watching it. The movie will also be released in the mainland, but the schedule has not yet been determined." In charge of presenting the awards, Kimbee invited Koo Tin Lok to join her in "give away hearts" but he shook his head and refused. Kimbee had no choice but to make a heart-shaped gesture next to his face. Kimbee said on the stage that she and Goo Jai have known each other for over 20 years. At the time she was just a little reporter, and he just transitioned from television to film. They saw each other grown. She felt moved to witness his contributions to the industry and the society. When Goo Jai accepted the award he said that the movie business in Hong Kong was very difficult. The "Diamond Achievement Award" did not just belong to him, but represented everyone on and off camera. Because of everyone's unity, hard work and support, this year's Hong Kong films have performed well at the box office and overseas film festival. He said that he needed everyone to tell the whole world, how sharp the charm of Hong Kong films is! In addition, in 2021 the Joseph Lau Charitable Foundation announced that it would cooperate with One Cool Group on 5 films. Koo Tin Lok said that there was still one film that has not yet been filmed, and he has thought about inviting Kimbee to make a cameo appearance in the movie. Kimbee joked, "Koo Tin Lok minds that I can't act and wants me to play the fat housewife. I turned him down!" Koo Tin Lok said, "Where are you fat? I have asked her, but she thought that I was joking. She can play the strong woman role." Kimbee said that her daughter Josephine Lau Sau Wah has been interested in acting, but she has to complete her education first. Would the foundation increase its cooperation? Kimbee said that would depend on the environment and the situation, the purpose of setting up the fund was not to make money. * (2024/11/30) Actress Chrissie Chau Sau Na dressed up to attend an event the night before. She said that she has finished filming the Lunar New Year film, in which she played the role of Muay Thai champion boxer and had many fight scenes with Louise Wong Dan Nei. In order to look the part, she spent 1 month practicing Muay Thai. She said with a smile that learn something new was not bad; but she was injured during practice and at work and became a woman who was easily hurt. "Constant bruises were minor when practicing Muay Thai. On the first day of work I had an accident already. I was in shorts and accidentally kicked a metal chair, my left calf was sliced and I went to the hospital for 5 stitches. Then at work I had adhesive bandage like a part of the costume. It might leave a scar. (Do you want to find a man who loves you even if you have scars?) With or without scars he has to love me, without a bra he has to love even more. If he doesn't love me with scars, I don't want anyone like that. (Has this person appeared yet?) This scar of mine is new, but no one has appeared yet." * (2024/11/30) The Michael Hui Koon Man and Dayo Wong Tze Wah starred, Anselm Chan Mou Yin directed film THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) has broken through HK$ 100 million box office in just 20 days of release. The leading actors received the good news and personally expressed their gratitude to the audience. Tze Wah god stated that even more surprising was hearing that many people got inspiration and encouragement from this movie, and even hearing that some people have taken a step by from the gate of hell and restarted their journey. Tze Wah said frankly: "Actually when the box office has reached half of what it is today long ago, I already felt that I would be able to answer to everyone and breathed a sigh of relief. Even more surprising was hearing that many people got inspiration and encouragement from this movie, and even hearing that some people have taken a step by from the gate of hell and restarted their journey. Thank you to the audience for the encouragement you have given us. I also wish the people on the same ride would able to be energize themselves and properly savor the scenery along the way." Hui Koon Man pointed out that he quite agreed with a dialogue in the film, "Why care about when to get off the ride, why not properly enjoy the scenery along the way." He believed that Hong Kong was now facing difficulties. Through the good performance of THE LAST DANCE, he hoped that the industry would work together to make good movies. Currently in Australia to attended THE LAST DANCE premiere there, Michelle Wai Sze Nga thanked the audience for their support from overseas. "I am so happy, so excited, this moment is unforgettable. Thank you to all the audience for stepping into the cinema again to support Hong Kong films, achieving this result truly hasn't been easy. I hope to be able to share it with our team!" Having worked closely with Chan Mou Yin, Tommy Chu Pak Hong wrote a long article to share his feelings. "The performance of THE LAST DANCE so far, whether it is at the box office, the degree of discussion, and even the audience's praise for yours truly has been really encouraging. For me personally, what I am most grateful for is that I can feel from each audience appreciation show and viewer review that THE LAST DANCE has succeeded in achieving its most artistic efficiency. She has become a channel for most viewers to express their emotions and reflect on life. I would like to express my gratitude to all the audience, their support and spreading the word have also helped us to successfully help many lives move on; and enabled our team's hard efforts to be of use and serve the audience." An excited Catherine Chau Ka Ye also shared a post, "I'm so excited to be able to share THE LAST DANCE, a movie with a message, which is particularly inspiring as an actor. I know that many viewers have already brushed up three or four times on this work, very supportive of this film that the directors and actors worked together in unity. I think this movie has life, and I can't forget that many viewers who said that they were relieved because of this movie at audience appreciation shows. Thank you very much to so many viewers for your support, and for taking the initiative to share this movie on social media platforms!" Modeling for the female corpse "Hei Man" in the film, special contract actor Katrina Chan Pui Yan said that she obtained the opportunity to perform in THE LAST DANCE through an intermediary company. Although she knew that she would just model for the mold and she did not have to personally perform as a corpse, she did not mind because she has paid attention to foreign special effect makeup. She really wanted to experience how to become another person through special effect makeup and it was also an opportunity to be recognized, so she agreed without thinking about it. "I didn't worry about bad luck after playing the dead body. I am a Christian, I have a very open view of life and death and I also want to know what state I will be in after death." She said that the process of pouring the mold was not hard, but there was a sense of fear. "First I 'slicked back' my hair and put on a skull cap, and then my entire face was covered with a thick green material. I was so scared at the time, it was pitch black. There was a sense of pressure, and with my allergy I was worried that I would not be able to breathe. The chemical effect pouring the mold created made the material pressed against my head, I felt like I was being strangled around my neck. Then the plaster was poured. The whole process was more than two hours." Although Chan Pui Yan did not need to "show her face", her hands had a big close-up shot. She joked that after watching THE LAST DANCE she felt that her "fingers" performed well. "It was difficult. Because as soon as I breathed the shot was done for, I had to hold my breath for half a minute to two minutes as soon as the cameras rolled. At first I didn't know how to control, any slight movement led to frequent bad takes. Having to maintain a static state is truly not easy." She joked that when she saw her "posthumous photo" in the mourning hall, she felt like an out-of-body soul. This scene left a deep impression on the audience, which Chan Pui Yan said that she did not expect. "There was no acting and no dialogue, but the audience actually noticed my existence. It was so magical, just like coming back to life after death." The movie had a famous saying, "The living has to break hell, and the living has many hells." Chan Pui Yan said that she has encountered a lot of "hell", and she had to break through the difficulties. "Since I was little my goal is to be an actor. Back then when I studied fashion design in New York, the process was very difficult. Because my parents had high expectations for me but I was not interested in this subject, I minored in drama. However my parents, boyfriend and friends didn't understand and strongly opposed to me being an actor, so I suffered from emotional illness. I hesitated about my own wishes and felt that life had no meaning, like I was living in hell. After graduating I returned to Hong Kong, I participated in the ViuTV talent show "GOOD NIGHT SHOW - CM QUEEN. The screenwriter minded that I sounded official and didn't reveal any secret, which made the show less entertaining and made me more and more lost. I was another hell." After GOOD NIGHT SHOW - CM QUEEN, in 2021 Chan Pui Yan decided to go to the United States and Australia to re-learn drama, and did a 17 show run of a play in Australia. She played 5 roles by herself, which was very satisfying. A company there signed her and gradually her self confidence returned. She again returned to Hong Kong to find a stage that belonged to herself. She was very happy to have her current boyfriend's and parents' support. With her passion for acting, she has recently attended directing classes, drama classes and dubbing internship classes, "I am equipping myself for opportunities I haven't had yet. I really like acting, when I was little I often went to the movies with my parents. I really like the feeling of everyone focusing on watching the movie in the pitch dark theater, which brings everyone into another world." Before Chan Pui Yan performed in THE LAST DANCE, she had guest appearances in I STILL REMEMBER (YI CHI YUN SUN), THE GOLDFINER (GUM SAU JI) and WE ARE FAMILY (CHOOK JO GA YUN). Now she is 30 years old and she is finally recognized, she admitted that she started late and could only slowly catch up. She understood that she could not reach the top in one step. She said, "THE LAST DANCE really helped me break the hell. I entered the industry in 2016, and waited 8 years before someone recognized me. Actors who entered the industry in the same year as me have all been on the top, like Lam Ka Hei (Locker) and (Neo) Yau Hawk Sau; which for me was a little hard to take. I don't know what the film will bring me yet, but at least people know that I Chan Pui Yan exists, and I hope that even more directors will give me the opportunity to play a 'living person' with dialogue." * (2024/11/30) The actors Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui, Amy Lo Wai Man, Fish Liew Chi Yu and Jay Fung Won Him starred film AN ABANDONED TEAM (DUT CHUNG SIN SUN) premiered a few days ago. That night coincided with Cheng Tan Shui's 69th birthday. Near 100 friends in the industry showed their support and had nothing but praise, which moved him tremendously. Fish had some insights on the midlife crisis. "Life seems to be in a lot of chaos, I have to accept them again. I have to take care of my parents, they are starting to get old. My career has reached a spot, what should I do? After watching the movie just now, I thought, 'If I reach age 70 and my life is such a failure, what will I do?' However as long as you don't give up, you can restart your life at any age." * (2024/11/30) Neo Yau Hawk Sau yesterday attended the press conference for the play VENUE IN FUR (SI GANG), revealing that he would have a few erotic scenes in the play. Regarding not winning the Golden Horse Award Best Actor, he said, "The chairman said that I am the leading actor runner up, I am so happy. I am the most afraid that no one knows that I am the second place." Speaking of his online video channel he managed, the artist Kayan Ng was rumored to have angered him because she took jobs privately and has now left the channel. Yau Hawk Sau admitted that both sides have recently completed the contract, but denied that she took jobs privately. They did not have an unpleasant parting. * (2024/11/29) The HK$ 100 million box office actor Dayo Wong Tze Wah and the Hong Kong master comedian Michael Hui Koon Man starred Emperor Motion Picture THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) after only 20 days in release has officially broke through the 100 million box office yesterday! Wong Tze Wah has become a HK$ 100 million box office actor again this year after last year's work A GUILTY CONSCIENCE (DUK SIT DAI JONG). THE LAST DANCE posted on the official social media platform yesterday to announce the good box office news "[POISED TO BREAK 100 million! The box office of THE LAST DANCE broke through 100 million] Breaking. Record THE LAST DANCE broke through the 100 million mark at the box office in Hong Kong and Macao after 20 days in release! We are truly grateful to everyone lingering in the mortal world in the reincarnation cycle for supporting Hong Kong films, and the team of THE LAST TIME feels very encouraged. We will continue to work hard to thank you for your love #THELASTDANCEContinuesToBreakRecords." Many viewers left messages expressing their expectation that the extended version of THE LAST DANCE would be released, declaring that they would go to the theaters and watch it again. They also hoped that the extended version would be released at the end of the year. The director Anselm Chan Mou Yin and the lead actress of the movie Wai Sze Nga went live on the official social network last night to interact with viewers. THE LAST DANCE is the second time that Wong Tze Wah has broken the box office record of 100 million. The film has also become the third Hong Kong film to break 100 million box office, previous Hong Kong films that have broken the 100 million mark were the also Wong Tze Wah starred release A GUILTY CONSCIENCE last year, and the Louis Koo Tin Lok starred May release this year TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG WAI SING JI WAI SING). * (2024/11/29) Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui (Brother Tan), Jay Fung Won Him, Amy Lo Wai Man and Fish Liew Chi Yu and the dog actor in the film went to Tseung Kwan O the night before to attend the promotional event of the movie AN ABANDONED TEAM (DUT CHUNG SIN SUN), which coincided with Brother Tan's 69th birthday the night before. The whole place sang a birthday song and present a cake to him to celebrate. Brother Tan made a wish on the stage and felt inspired to say, "Making Hong Kong movies have never been easy, but the less easy it is the more people hope to get over this hardship, achieve their dreams. Today two directors (Lee Chi Wai and Ho Ying Ngai directed and wrote) have achieved their dreams and the film would be released. I hope you will support this film." Brother Tan also said that he wanted to be a little selfish with his birthday wish, this year he asked his former students to not take him to dinner or give gifts. Instead he asked then to buy tickets to watch the movie and give their opinions, then take a photo of the ticket stub and send it to him. "That would be the best gift. Making this movie in the summer a few years ago, I suffered a heat stroke." Jay and Amy played a couple in the film. Making a movie for the first time, Jay had more than 10 takes for one scene. "Because the first scene was going to be filmed separately from Amy, it was relatively heavy. I was not familiar with Amy yet at that time, plus I was shy and nervous. We didn't communicate much, but I was grateful to Amy for bringing me into character." Amy joked that she was Jay's little elder in acting, and praised Jay for being very sweet and comfortable to work with. In the film she had many scenes with elder Brother Tan, and Amy admitted that she was so nervous and stressed. When asked if Jay would make the jump from singing to acting, and enter the film industry? He said that if someone asked him to make a film, he would give it a try. However he would need to attend acting classes beforehand. Speaking of his kiss scene with Amy being cut, Jay laughed at himself. "Maybe I didn't do a good enough job." He also joked that he practice in front of the mirror and felt very natural, but perhaps he was not ready yet. When asked if his girlfriend knew about his kiss scene and was she jealous, he said, "She knows. She envies me so much because Amy is such a beautiful girl, but my girlfriend hasn't seen the movie yet. She will support it. Unfortunately she is not in Hong Kong now, so I can't introduce Amy to her yet." Recently, a number of Hong Kong-made films have had an ideal box office. THE LAST DANCE has even set off a ticket grabbing boom. Although ABANDONED would be released at the same time as LAST, Brother Tan believed that this was a good influence because the audience will see the trailer of ABANDONED when they go to see LAST. He was happy to see that Hong Kong's large, medium and small films have all been produced at a high level, and he also believes that the Hong Kong film industry was thriving and promising. He said, "One film a year has a box office of HK$100 million, and each one has its own characteristics. There are also many young actors and directors, Hong Kong films definitely has hope. In addition filmmakers are gluttons for punishment; the more difficult it is, the more they wouldn't stop until they are done." Brother Tan did not shy away from saying that he had great hopes for the box office of ABANDONED, because the boss would have to make money before there would be the next one. Playing Brother Tan's daughter in the film, Liew Chi Yu appeared with blue hair the night before. She said that she was making another movie, and specifically took time off to celebrate Brother Tan's birthday. The character in the new film liked anime and manga very much. She thanked each director for having imagination for her, and believed that she could play different roles. She revealed that years ago she auditioned for a Brother Tan directed film and in the end lost to Larine Tang Yueping. This time she was finally able to work with Brother Tan. Brother Tan laughed and said that the movie was THE YUPPIE FANTASIA 3 (SIU NAM YUN JAU GEI 3 JI NG GA YAU HEI). Brother Tan joked, "The Chinese title at first was NG GA YAU NUI 33D (I HAVE A 33D GIRL). (Did she lose due to her figure?) Because the Chinese title was too long, she lost from not paying attention to it." * (2024/11/29) MIRROR member Ian Chan Cheuk Yin and COLLAR member Marf Yau Yin Tung attended a fashion brand event at Causeway Bay yesterday. Lead actress GiGi said, "I am so happy to train with Dan Nei and Sau Na to prepare for this film, I am so happy to get to know them, and it feels so fresh to work with Goo Jai after many years. This time he and I play a couple again, the feeling is pretty interesting and intimate. I already knew the director when I made my first film, and he helped me audition at that time. Having known each other for so many years we finally worked together for the first time, I am grateful to the director for giving me a lot of room to act." Wong Dan Nei said, "I've always wanted to make a comedy once, and this time I finally was able to make my dream come true. I have the opportunity to work with an all new cast, and I have learned a lot about comedy from them. At the same time after filming Muay Thai action scenes for a few days, when I got up those several mornings the muscles all over my body were sore; but after successfully achieving the required stunts, the sense of satisfaction was really indescribable. This was a challenge for the character and a challenge as well for Wong Dan Nei, who has grown up and become more fearless. It was a very valuable production experience." Chau Sau Na said, "For me it was a fresh and exciting filming process, especially the boxing match between me and Dan Nei; the whole process was so satisfying, we rarely used stand-ins so I had a sense of success and happiness." Wu Tsz Tung also said, "Although the production set was so intense, every one of us has contributed a lot. I am looking forward to seeing the movie. As one of the lead actresses, Marf was accused of being absent from audience appreciation events and publicity. The other lead actress Sheena Chan Shu Yan meanwhile went busking on the streets to build momentum for the new film, which provoked harsh online criticism of Marf. Marf was absent from one of the audience appreciation shows due to feeling unwell, but the next day she posted a cosplay of WICIKED's Elthba on social media. People online criticized her for promoting other movies, disrespecting the new film she starred in, putting on air and ignoring the box office. Marf posted the day before yesterday to explain that she was unable to participate in the audience appreciation event due to illness. "I want to talk about everyone's misunderstanding of my attitude towards the promotion of the movie recently, the makeup cover was shot a week ago. While in sick bed I wanted to share a happy post. The original intent was to keep everyone from worrying and continuing to promote in different ways. The absence from the audience appreciation event was because her body failing me, due to a severe flu I again injured the neck and spine as well. I have to have physical therapy. I will work hard to recover, get better faster as I don't want to affect the concert and other jobs. I look forward to seeing you all of you at audience appreciation event. Thank you to my little friends for your continued concern." COLLAR manager Tai Wing posted on social media platforms the day before yesterday that almost all of COLLAR were sick last week. Some went in and out of hospitals numerous times, and some vomited. Yet they still worked hard to rehearse everyday. She mentioned that Marf had too much work on her shoulders, releasing 3 duets in two weeks, as well as movie promotion and concert rehearsals. The manager blamed herself for her improper arrangement. As for Marf's absence from the audience appreciation events, the decision was not random. "After surviving a few audience appreciation shows, she found that her condition was more serious. One night she was absent from the audience appreciation event at the last minute because she found that her neck and spine were also injured. She failed the very attentive publicity team, sorry everyone......." Tai Wing said that the film costumes and some promotional content were Marf's creations, and they were made from her love for the film. It would be unfair to talk about Marf's absence as "acting like a big shot". Marf and her group mates attended the press conference for "CHILL Music Festival" yesterday, but the media was informed in advance that COLLAR would not be interviewed. * (2024/11/28) Two generations of comedians Michael Hui Koon Man and Dayo Wong Tze Wah starred in THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK), which has a fierce box office trend. As of two days ago it accumulated HK$ 96 million, and reaching 100 million was in sight. Hui Koon Man was happy that the movie had good results, and declared that at the celebration of breaking 100 million he would put on the Taoist robe and gave away lai see. He would also thank the audience with Wong Tze Wah. The 82-year-old Hui Koon Man has already "broken hell" for himself, and was mentally prepared to "get off the ride" at any time. He also explain to his family his funeral arrangements. He was not superstitious, so he asked his wife to scatter his ashes at sea in Sai Kung as fish food, or make some of the ashes into ornaments and put them at home in remembrance. He also revealed that (Sam) Hui Koon Kit placed their brother (Ricky) Hui Koon Ying's ashes in the backyard of his residence, and relatives could pay homage at any time. Hui Koon Man was interviewed yesterday. He said that he was very happy that the box office of THE LAST DANCE was about to break 100 million. He has dreamed his whole life of breaking the record, when he directed and starred in SECURITY UNLIMITED (MOR DUN BO BIU) he has already broken his own record 3 times. He then looked forward to breaking the 4th record with THE MAGIC TOUCH (SUN SUEN), so he asked Dayo Wong Tze Wah to help and come up with ideas; but it was unsuccessful. "It is considered a failure, and then I hid for a few years to come up with a movie. I even told Tze Wah, who wanted to be a star back then, once I came up with something I would find him to be the actor; but I didn't expect to wait for 32 years." He said that he was almost exhausted of ideas, his wife joked that he pondered for so long that he could no longer play the lead; he would have to play the old role. Hui Koon Man felt that what his wife said made sense, so while he could moved freely he did not want to waste time. Before coming up with a script to direct and star in, he would first be an actor. Fate arranged for him to work with Tze Wah again, which could be regarded as fulfilling the promise made between the two 32 years ago. Hui Koon Man was happy that many viewers broke the "hell" in their hearts after watching THE LAST DANCE. He also "broke hell" for himself, "I agree with the philosophy at the end of the film, 'Why care about when to get off the ride, it's better to enjoy the scenery along the way'. Time is limited, I don't know when I would get off the ride. I am already 82 years old, time is short and I could get off the ride at any time. So I shouldn't be bothered by the pain in my heart. I am just like Tze Wah; I know that a friend I don't like very much would be at dinner, but I agree to attend anyway. I take the initiative to talk to him and eliminate the hatred". Hui Koon Man believed that if you have something you would like to do in your lifetime, you should do it boldly; and if you have3 something you want to talk to those close to you then you should say it immediately. "I used my own style to say something similar to 'I love you' to my wife, and I would praise my children. I have prepared for death, and told them not to be sad; to cremate me, and scatter my ashes at sea in Sai Kung. Because I have been fishing in Sai Kung since I was little, after turning into ashes I would become food for the fishes. There would be no need for a cemetery plot. On the anniversary of my death, everyone could go to Sai Kung and look at the3 sea to mourn me. I wouldn't need to fight with others and spent over a million to buy a niche for the ashes. My wife didn't approve of it, so I said that I would turn some of the ashes into ornaments and put them at home in remembrance. My wife said that no one puts the ashes at home. I am not superstitious, (Sam) Hui Koon Kit has put (Ricky) Hui Koon Ying's ashes in the backyard, where we can pay our respect to him at any time." THE LAST DANCE has achieved great results, would he work with Tze Wah again? Hui Koon Man said, "I hope to make a comedy with Tze Wah in my lifetime, and he agrees. We've all invested in comedy all our lives; now that the film environment is poor and no one is watching movie, the two of us are trying our best to make a comedy for Hong Kong, hoping to be a hit and create a new journey for the next generation to have a new beginning." He said that Hong Kong films are currently facing a cruel and difficult situation. Although the market is very poor, TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG WAI SING JI WAI SING) and THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) have achieved good results and proved that the audience is willing to pay to watch quality films at the theaters, and the industry should encourage them. When asked if the box office would exceed 100 million, would he learn from other actors and wear swimsuits to give away benefits? He joked, "You want me to streak? For the celebration after breaking 100 million, I would wear a Taoist robe to give away lai see. I would even go with Tze Wah to thank the audience. It means a lot to us, fulfilling the dreams of two people. The world is full of hope, this works too." [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. WEN WEI PO, DECEMBER 2 2024 [ FILM REVIEW ] ABOUT THE METAPHOR OF THE LAST DANCE { SPOILER } { SPOILER } { SPOILER } { SPOILER } { SPOILER } { SPOILER } { SPOILER } { SPOILER } { SPOILER } { SPOILER } { SPOILER } With the subject of Hong Kong's funeral industry, the feature film THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) that explored the issues of life and death through Taoist funeral rituals, has become a hit in Hong Kong. It created a box office of more than 100 million in just 20 days, surpassing TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) and becoming another dark horse for Hong Kong films. A few days ago, the author took a break and made a special trip to the theater to watch this film seriously. Now the author would like to take this opportunity to talk about the metaphor of THE LAST DANCE in his eyes. "Breaking Hell" was a Hong Kong Taoist ritual to transcend the soul. It was also common to perform rituals for the deceased in the mainland, but in the mainland the Taoist priests would generally be called Taoist priests "ritual master" or "master of high merit" or "master of scripture". The Hong Kong title of "Namo Master" was much more interesting. Taoism was a native religion in China, "Namo" was a Sanskrit word that meant to return to fate. "Namo Master" was extremely similar to Hong Kong, based on Chinese culture but the name gave people the impression of a mixture of Chinese and the West. Ngai Tao Sun (Wong Tze Wah) was originally a wedding company owner. After going bankrupt due to the pandemic, he entered the funeral industry through his girlfriend's introduction, and met the Namo master Kwok Man (Hui Koon Man) and Kwok Man's children Kwok Chi Bun (Chu Pak Hong) and Kwok Man Yuet (Wai Sze Nga). In this process, there were many conflicts and stories between Ngai Tao Sun and Kwok Man. The two originally disagreed, but over time, they came to gradually understand each other...... Some said that the lead characters in the film formed a portrait of mortal world. Through their points of view the film touched upon gender discrimination, homosexuality and other socially taboo topics. Yet from what the author observed, the three lead characters other than Kwok Man's names seemed to resemble the group shorthand of Hong Kong youth. Only in order to study them in detail, the explanation still needed to start with "Kwok Man": Representing the traditional culture, the Namo master "Kwok Man" probably was the homonym abbreviation of "Chinese culture" so its meaning was self-explanatory; "Kwok Chi Bun" could be explained as "determined to become a person who is both learned and trained", but he faced the unsatisfactory life with a blank face, did not keep a vegetarian diet in daily life, and would also peek at the ball games during the ritual to defy tradition. In order for his son not to live like himself, he chose to believe in "painting cakes" and did not hesitate to "get baptized" in exchange for his child's admission points. After failing he chose to immigrate to Australia with his family without any regard of the reality that he had no skills and did not understand English. With the operation of this series of mysteries, it was difficult not to think of those young people in Hong Kong who were deceived into immigrating after the black riot subsided. Literally understood as "the pearl of Chinese culture", "Kwok Man Yuet" had a dream of inheriting traditions but she has always believed that she was not understood and suffered from gender discrimination. In order to demonstrate her abilities to tradition, she chose emergency medical technician who saved the living as her profession; Ngai Tao Sun has always wanted to return to the pinnacle of his career, so he silently took on the pressure of providing jobs for employees. Faced with his girlfriend's bitter plea of "if I have another abortion, I will never be able to be a mother again", he has always been determined not to let his girlfriend have children due to his financial instability, but his spirit of hard work and never give up were very Hong Kong characteristics. As for whether "Pearl of Chinese Culture" meant "(Oriental) Pearl", and whether "Ngai Tao Sun" is "Wai Tao Sun" (Live For Tao) or "Wai Tao Sun" (Born To defend Tao), conceivably the director or screenwriter would know better. The climax of the film was given to Kwok Man's performance of the ritual of "Breaking Hell". Those who were familiar with Hong Kong's funeral rituals knew that "Breaking Hell" was aimed at the deceased who died too soon, died unexpectedly, committed suicide, etc., Kwok Man, who is over 60 years old, was not among them. Kwok Man, as a senior master would not be ignorant of the reasons within. The only explanation was that Kwok Man intended to let the living break their own hell. Therefore, to paraphrase the above character metaphors, this scene has more profound meaning: Kwok Man's last wish to let the pair of children be the masters was criticized and opposed by the "elders". Ngai Tao Sun with unrelenting force demanded all objectors to depart. The brother and sister who once turned against each other returned to inherit the tradition and reconciled, as they held a "Hell-breaking" ceremony together and broke the obsession they carried. In particular, Kwok Man Yuet's leap into the flames during the ceremony seemed to mean that under the guidance of "Kwok Man", who represented Chinese cultural heritage, and under the auspices of "Ngai Tao Sun", who represented the hard working Hong Kong people, "Kwok Man Yuet", who has experienced internal friction, has finally been reborn on her own from the fire after taking over the mantle and tradition. Before the end of the film, there are two other scenes that left impressions on the author. One was that after Kwok Man's "Breaking Hell" ceremony, Ngai Tao Sun stood in front of the window of the funeral home. With black window frames and snow-white exterior walls, the visual was made as solemn as if it were a posthumous photo; another shot was when Ngai Tao Sing drove along with Kwok Man's hearse from the funeral home, halfway the two cars parted. The hearse went to the bridge while Ngai Tao Sun and his girlfriend drove into the tunnel and then drove out. The suddenly bright out of the dark picture seemed to imply that Ngai Tao Sun has also experienced rebirth, and greeting him was not only by an even brighter future, but also by the child who was about to be born. I don't know if the Ngai Tao Sun's actor Wong Tze Wah would feel the same way. -Seaside Taoist [ In Production Now/Soon ] TOO MANY WAYS TO BE No. 2 Can : YUT GOR BO MOON DIK DAN SUN Lit : The Birth of A Department d. Wong Siu Pong Rating : I Length : 71 mins. Opening December 19 2024 [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] Hung Hom is a neighbourhood of contrasts; because it houses a majority of Hong Kong's funeral homes, its living shares the roads with hearses carrying the dead. Homes of the affluent and middle-class tower over short, dilapidated residential buildings waiting to be torn down and rebuilt. While citizens visit the neighbourhood's temple of Kwun Yum – the revered Goddess of Mercy - every year to seek wealth by praying for a "loan' from the deity's legendary treasury, locals peddle their second-hand goods at a flea market that is held only at dawn, and elderly people rummage through waste on the streets in hopes of finding recyclable materials that will earn them what amounts to pennies. Five years in the making, the latest film by acclaimed independent documentarian WONG Siu-Pong is a thought-provoking day-in-the-life snapshot of Hung Hom. Revealing how our waste is never truly discarded, but merely processed into something of value for others, the film forces us to reconsider the concept of "waste" in modern society. Through his quiet observation of this seemingly ordinary neighbourhood tucked in the very centre of the city, WONG shows a microcosm of Hong Kong and its many contradictions.
