MISCELLANEOUS * (2024/11/13) Currently 3 Lunar New Year films are in production for 2025 releases, including the Louis Koo Tin Lok led HIT N RUN (LUM SI KUET DAU), the Wong Jing and Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) co-produced and directed MAH JEUK NUI WONG JUI NAM JAI, and the Louis Cheung Kai Chung and Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin starred MY BEST BET (CHEUNG DOH BIT YANG). MY BEST BET earlier got into trouble for alleged trespassing the shop of Tsui Tin Yau's wife Olive, but the actors were not affected. Yesterday the shoot took place in Tseung Kwan O, Ah Sa and Cheung Kai Chung said that the trespassing storm has already come to an end. Everyone now is having a lot of fun in production and constantly has bad takes from not being able to keep from laughing. The 3 Lunar New YEar films have different styles and subjects. The Wong Jing and Yip Lim Sum produced and directed MA JEUK NUI WONG JUI NAM JAI starred leads Kenneth Ma Kwok Ming and Samantha Ko Hoi Ning, with Carlos Chan Ka Lok, DaDa Chan Jing and Juliana Kwok Pui Man. Wong Jing hoped to pay homage to Mahjong, chasing guys and girls genres. As for the Koo Tin Lok, Tony Wu Tsz Tung, German Cheung Man Kit, Philip Ng Won Lung, Gigi Leung Wing Kei, Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Peter Chan Charm Man, Louise Wong Dan Nei and others starred HIT N FUN would be an action fcomedy, many leads would have scenes in the ring. The Lunar New Year film MY BEST BET (CHEUNG DOH BIT SING) yesterday held a production start worship ceremony, actors Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin (Ah Sa), Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Stanley Yau Si Chun, Ng Ka Yan, Tommy Chu Pak Hong, Wu Fung, Renci Yeung Sze Wing, Alan Yeung Wai Lun and others attended. Cheung Kai Chung and Ah Sa went crazy for the comedy and often had bad takes; Ng Ka Yan admitted to be a newcomer and praised Stanley for having "contrast cuteness"; Stanley's performance tested his acting skills. When he watched Cheung Kai Chung's shoot, because of the hilarious bad take he laughed so hard he cried. Cheung Kai Chung and Ah Sa would play husband and wife, but Ah Sa has become a gambling addict and had to quit. Ah Chung hated gambling the most, so there were many conflicts and cover-ups between husband and wife. The film would bring out the negatives of gambling, but actually everyone had a gambling mentality. For their dreams they would make a wager. Some in a difficult environment they would and take the gamble once for their families. During the filming of this Lunar New Year film, Ah Chung stated that he was quite happy and also hoped to bring joy to the audience. He also pointed out that many excellent comedic actors were in the film, so he often could not hold back laughing and had bad takes. "I am probably the one with the most bad takes, and for that I am sorry. Sometimes I get too crazy and have to force myself to think of something unhappy. Like while filming the funny bed scene, I have to talk to my own organs. Ah Sa lay next to me and had to turn her face to keep from laughing. Chu Pak Hong and I were bad together, during a play we already laughed right in front of the audience." Ah Sa pointed out that actually every actor has tried to keep from laughing during filming, and she was no exception. "If I have to say his lines I wouldn't be able to stop laughing either. Ah Chung's dialogue is long, he spoke for 5 minutes and I had to hold it in. By 5 minutes and 5 seconds I really wanted to laugh. If we had a bad take, he would have to talk again for 5 minutes. So I turned away to avoid the camera!" The film earlier had an incident of trespassing the shop of Tsui Tin Yau's wife during the production. Later the shop and the film company each stood firmly and issued statements. Yesterday the shoot took place in Tseung Kwan O, and producer Ng Kin Hung announced in advance that he would not accept any media interviews. When asked whether the incident has been satisfactorily resolved, Ah Sa said that the matter has already passed and she did not want to respond again; Ah Chung pointed out that the incident has come to an end, whatever happened has been reviewed in order to be improved upon and make the movie better. Would the scenes shot that day truly not be used in the film? Ah Chung said, "We scrapped anything that was shot as other scenes would replace it!" Recently Joey Yung Cho Yee lost her voice during a performance. Ah Sa bluntly said that she has visited Joey. "She lost her voice, and now she is better but she has not fully recovered. I feel bad for her when I see that she is going for acupuncture and carrying a big bag of medicine." Speaking of Ah Sa's 42nd birthday on the 22nd of this month, she said that she would have left for the United States and Canada for the Twins tour so she would probably spend it with fans. Later she remembered that she would be on the plane on her birthday. Some joked that she would spend her birthday with a flight attendant. She laughed and said, "How about a steward? However I have celebrated my birthday on a plane many times before, I got champagne, birthday cards, and even a seat upgrade!" Stanley would play Ah Sa's brother and a couple with Ng Ka Yan in the film, but he would have a romantic rival in a Chinese-Korean hunk. In one scene he found that Kayan and his romantic rival were being ambiguous, he pretended to be casual on the surface but actually very heartbroken inside. The performance tested his acting skills. In addition earlier when he worked on a actual situation series for RTHK he had many crying spots, then he came to make the comedy. At first he might not be able to adjust. He also pointed out that Cheung Kai Chung was so mischievous, he had to try not laugh so hard that he cried. "It's really very rough, even he himself can't stop laughing. In one scene I laughed so hard I cried, my eyes were all red from keeping from laughing. So the process has been a lot of fun." As for his knack for comedy, he stated that he still needed to learn from the elders like Cheung Kai Chung. Ng Ka Yan considered herself a newcomer and learned to feel the rhythm of comedy from the elders; but when she played against Yeung Wai Lun and Chu Pak Hong, she had to "pinch" her thigh many times to keep herself from laughing, avoid back takes and affect everyone. She also praised her co-star Stanley, whom she found to have quite a feel for comedy after working together despite his serious appearance. Stanley joked that he was a "imposter gentleman". * (2024/11/12) The Dayo Wong Tze Wah and Michael Hui Koon Man starred film THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) opened last Saturday (9th) and set 9 new Hong Kong film records. As of 11 o'clock last night, its box office has accumulated more than HK$ 20 million. The word of mouth has motivated the audience to support the movie, as the long missed crowd returned to cinemas. Wong Tze Wah on the Carol Cheng Yui Ling's online program THE DO SHOW mentioned his determination to become an actor but has never thought that he would be able to break into the top ten Chinese language film box office (A GUILTY CONSCIENCE (DUK SIT DAI JONG) topped the chart, TABLE FOR SIX (FAN HEI GUNG SUM) in 4th). With THE LAST DANCE's box office trend, Wong Tze Wah would not have difficulty with a third film in the top ten box office. In the interview Tze Wah talked about the chance of returning to television series would be slim, which was related to screenplay quality. He revealed that the 2009 series YOU'RE HIRED (JUET DOI SEUNG GIU) originally had a parking lot barbecue ending, which he could not accept as he took the initiative to write 5 pages of script to change the ending. The film company announced that THE LAST DANCE as of 11PM last night has accumulated over HK$ 20 million at he box office and has set 9 new records, including "the highest Hong Kong film opening day box office", "the highest Hong Kong film opening day admission rate", "the highest Hong Kong film opening day cumulative box office", "the most Hong Kong film opening day screenings", "the highest Hong Kong film single day admission rate", "the highest opening day box office of 2024", "the highest opening day admission rate of 2024", "the highest single day box office" and "the highest single day admission rate of 2024". Director Anselm Chan Mou Yin after receiving the good news said, "Seeing such good results for THE LAST DANCE, I feel very encouraged. When thanking the audience, I heard the very heartwarming experience the audience shared. I sincerely hope that through THE LAST DANCE to send more positive messages and strength to the audience." Receiving highly acclaimed for her performance, Michelle Wai Sze Man said, "Being able to participate in this film is a very valuable experience, and the reaction and the enthusiastic response from the audience after the screenings is a great recognition for me. All the credit belongs to the director, and the entire team's effort. I would like to thank everyone in the audience for their support." Chan Mou Yin, Wai Sze Nga and Catherine Chau Ka Yee continued to go to the cinemas last night to thank the audience for their support. Wong Tze Wah spoke with Sister Do earlier, and the interview was released in two episodes. The second episode was released the night before. Sister Do and Tze Wah collaborated on the TV series WAR OF THE GENDERS (NAM CHUN NUI OI), and the two talked about the past. Tze Wah said that Sister Do ignored him an entire morning for being late, and it was not until noon when he publicly apologized and bought lunch before Sister Do forgave him. Tze Wah mentioned that after he finished filming everyday, he rushed home because he had to change the script; he explained the reason for changing the script. When he was filming the drama YOU'RE HIRED with Charmaine Sheh Sze Man, he received the script for the ending -- a happy barbecue at the parking lot. He could not accept that such an ending, he looked for but could not find the screenwriter because he was on vacation. Finally he changed the whole ending and wrote a 5-page script. He did not think that his changes were particularly good, but he felt that a comedy should have a funny ending and not a barbecue. Tze Wah said that he understood that under the TV station system, the screenwriter seemed to be rushing to catch a boat due to the very urgent pace; once the schedule was so rushed because filming was about to start, he had to make photocopies after changing it and distribute it to everyone on the set. Sister Do said that if the screenwriter did not allow him to change the script, he said that he would feel so painful. Thus his chances of filming another series were slim. He had watched some Korean dramas or American dramas that were able to keep all 20 episodes just as good. He also said that he rarely changed movie scripts. Like A GUILTY CONSCIENCE's Jack Ng Wai Lun and THE LAST DANCE'S Chan Mou Yin, their scripts were painstakingly sculpted over a lot of time. Speaking of after 100 episodes, WAR OF THE GENDERS received a proposal from TVB to add 100 more episodes due to the good response. Tze Wah however thought that he would quit while he was ahead. Did he dislike making sequels for movies or series? He said that it was not that he did not want to make a sequel. He really wanted to start a sequel to A GUILTY CONSCIENCE but the director refused. Why did he not make TABLE FOR SIX 2? He declined to answer, saying that he would not answer this question in the next 10 years. He could not shoot it for some reasons, which were the most difficult to take since he started in the industry. Sister Do wanted him to answer, but Tze Wah resolutely refused. He said that he did not feel right about saying it. The two also revealed that someone has invited them to make a Lunar New Year film, but due to script problems they could not collaborate in the end. Whether they would be able to continue their relationship, a good script would determine that. * (2024/11/12) The movie CESIUM FALLOUT (FUN SING) since its release on November 1st, in 10 days its box office has exceeded HK$ 20 million. Just finished with his overseas concerts, Andy Lau Tak Wa two days ago made a surprise appearance at the cinema to join the CESIUM FALLOUT team of Dee Ho Kai Wa, Leung Chung Hang, Michael Wong Man Tak, Michael Chow Man Kin, Locker Lam Ka Hei, Wesley Wong Hoi Kit and others. Since the film company did not leak any news, neither the actors nor the audience knew about Wa Jai's appearance until he raised his hand in the audience to ask questions. Everyone then found out about him, which made all the audience scream. It was quite a surprise for Wa Jai's loyal fan Ah Dee, as the two "Wah Dee" finally met in public. Wa Jai ran from the audience to the front of the stage, hugged and greeted a group of teammates in the film. Michael said to Wa Jai as the character in the movie, "Are you losing your mind?" Quick to react, Wa Jai also responded to him with a line from the film: "You're done!" The interaction between the two made the audience who had just finished watching the film applaud. Wa Jai came prepared and had already put on a blue T-shirt with CESIUM FALLOUT written on it, the same uniform as the team, to thanked the audience. Their morale was high for a while. Wa Jai turned to several new actors and said to the audience, "Thank you for supporting Hong Kong films and our new group of actors, they are the future of our Hong Kong films!" The audience also applauded in support. Although he had limited opportunities to perform with a group of young actors in the film and some of them did not even perform together, Wa Jai admitted that he has always heard from the crew about the process and experience of this group of firefighters from the beginning of practice to filming. He was pleased to praise it, "I know about your hard work, it's very good! You are our future!" As a loyal fan of Wa Jai, Ah Dee posted on social media earlier that working with his childhood idol was like a dream. Now he was pleasantly surprised to finally be able to thank the audience with his idol. "On the first day of work Mr. Lau has already visited the set, until the day of production wrap for me, he even specifically sent flowers for the farewell. I was so moved. Actually I was so nervous to see Mr. Lau right now. Everyone should be able to tell that I am a little 'flustered'...... I don't know if I'm saying, so happy and so dreamy. I can sense that the elders are working hard to make Hong Kong movies, and I know that they want to take the opportunity to help us, give us more opportunities for us, thank you so much Mr. Lau. I hope we can continue to work hard and not disappoint you." Leung Chung Hang said frankly that he felt so proud to appear in the same frame as the Hong Kong legend. During the shoot when he saw Mr. Lau, he was so easy-going and nice. Sometimes he would tell jokes and ask everyone brain teaser questions to ease the tension at work. As soon as Michael (Wong Man Tak) next to him use Nice to describe Wa Jai, he interjected and joked: "I think he isn't so nice, he yells at me all the time (because in the film they were sworn enemies); but he said next time he would have the opportunity, he would make a comedy with me and (Michael) Chow Man Kin. The dialogue could even be in English, so that's OK!" As for Locker, he said that he basically only met Mr. Lau two or three times on the set; but when he heard that Mr. Lau would ask two Michaels to make comedy, he immediately seized the opportunity to recommend himself and said, "I want to make a comedy with Mr. Lau too!" Wa Jai said that he was welcome to do so, and revealed that in fact, the first message he received about firefighters in this film was about Locker's injury. He knew that Locker was very professional as he continued to work very dedicatedly with injury. Wong Hoi Kit said that he had a scene with Mr. Lau, in which he had to wear a radiation protection suit to enter the fire. For several late night shoots he accompanied everyone until the end. He was very professionally the first to dress up neatly and wait for everyone, and ease the tension for everyone before going to the "disaster site" together, so I am very grateful to Mr. Lau. Before the end of the audience appreciation event, Ah Dee suddenly raised his hand and asked Mr. Lau if he would have another chance to thank the audience with him? Mr. Lau said without any hesitation, "You make the arrangement, I'll follow!" Wa Jai's reply in seconds surprised Dee again, and agreed to see Mr. Lau again at the audience appreciation show on the 13th. At the end, the actors took a group photo with the audience to congratulate CESIUM FALLOUT on breaking through HK$ 20 million at box office, and thanked everyone for their support for Hong Kong films. * (2024/11/11) The 21st Hong Kong Asian Film Festival closing ceremony took place last night. The two closing film teams DAUGHTER'S DAUGHTER stars Sylvia Chang Aijia, Karena Lam Ka Yan, Eugenia Liu Yier and director Huang Xi, PAPA's stars Sean Lau Ching Wan, Jo Koo (Kuk Cho Lam), young actors Dylan So Man To and Lainey Hung Lok Hei and director Philip Yung Tsz Kwong attended the premieres. Chang Aijia stated that the 6 years that DAUGHTER'S DAUGHTER experienced was not easy. Originally she was only an actress, but because the original producer Hou Hsiao-Hsien fell ill she took over. "Director Huang Xi asked me about a lot of things. I handled many that weren't in the area of an actor. The director then asked me if I could help and continue to produce." The film during its planning also ran into the pandemic and its effect on the economy, after numerous "accidents" she finally was able to find investors to start production on it. She was grateful to the original team for their participation in full. The film received five Golden Horse Awards nominations. Chang Aijia and Liu Yier were nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively, Chang Aijia pointed out that she has always had confidence in herself, and said with a smile that it does not matter whether she wins the award or not. "The most important thing is that the audience likes this movie, I can live with my conscience and perform well for the movie." Lam Ka Yan said that she has known Chang Aijia for 20 years and finally had the chance to work together. Both in the film and in real life she was a single Mama. Also because she had two daughters, during the performance she could very easily immerse into the complicated relationships between mothers and daughters. Speaking of director Johnnie To Kei Fung's recent interview that claimed Hong Kong films have been restricted creatively, Chang Aijia had a different opinion. Instead she felt that now is the new beginning for Hong Kong films. "I feel Hong Kong film now is in a new beginning, I am very confident. Currently many of the new generations have appeared. Faced with their current environment, they naturally have stories that they wat to tell. They all very freely make what they want to make, so we should let the young kids work on movies that they want to make!" Ching Wan and Kuk Cho Lam played husband and wife in PAPA. Kuk Cho Lam said that Lau Ching Wan was the actor she has worked with the most, but previously they did not have many scenes together; this time she finally was able to have physical contact. Aside from passion scenes, Ching Wan even completely bared his back. Before the shoot that they have agreed to how naked they would be, but they did not cultivate their emotions before hand. They just went for it from the jump and did not need any special communication. Both said that the script was very well written, the story required it and the script had this love scene very early on. Ching Wan stated that this was not his most daring performance in his film career. He was also buck naked in TOO MANY WAYS TO BE NO. 1 (YUT GOR JI TAU DIK DAN SUN) with six other actors. So this time was no big deal? "Don't make it sound like this, as an actor I have to make a living. What can I do?" Praised for having "an excellent quality rear", did he have any special training to get into shape? He said that he kept up with his exercises normally. Kuk Cho Lam said that she has already seen PAPA and thought that Lau Ching Wan's nude performance was very shocking. "This scene is very important, uncovering the pain the Papa character withstood was not something that could be settled physically and mentally. When the director edited this shot into it, the method is very vicious." As for her performance, it was also very conceptually daring but no nudity. During the shoot she did not even thought about it. "You wouldn't believe it even if I tell you, it really happened very naturally. We just got into it, without any suspicion at all." Lau Ching Wan said that he had Kuk Cho Lam's chemistry was based on their mutual trust. "Because the character has lost a lot, the audience must know that what he once had in order to know what he has lost it. (Did you tell anyone before hand?) My Papa didn't know. (What about your wife Amy Kwok Oi Ming?) We have been together for so many years, she understands it well. (Did she rehearse with you?) Let's not talk about anything outside the movie." * (2024/11/11) Michelle Wai Sze Nga appeared the night before to thank the audience. She said that her fiancé cried when he watched her work and later thanked her more for "exorcizing" him. She sweetly said that he has always taken her tantrums in stride. The single-day box office of THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) in Hong Kong and Macao collected more than HK$ 7.4 million, setting a new opening day box office record in Hong Kong film history and exceeding HK$ 10 million already in the morning yesterday. The Emperor Motion Picture THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) opened with a bang when it was officially released the day before yesterday. Its opening day box office in Hong Kong and Macao was HK$ 7,422,147, surpassing TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) to become the Hong Kong film opening day box office champion. Director Anselm Chan Mou Yin led actors Michelle Wai Sze Nga, Rachel Leung Wing Ting and Rosa Velasco (Wai Law Sa) to thank the audience in batches for a total of 33 performances, and opened bottles of champagne to celebrate the box office success. As of 8pm last night, together with the earlier priority screening the cumulative box office has exceeded 15 million. The film will be released in Malaysia and Taiwan later. Once said to be the "box office poison", Dayo Wong Tze Wah in recent years has successfully turned around to become the "box office miracle drug". His films TABLE FOR SIX (FAN HEI GUNG SUM) and A GUILTY CONSCIENCE (DUK SIT DAI JONG) made HK$ 77 million and HK$ 115 million at the box office respectively. The latter even became the Hong Kong Chinese language film box office champion. This year's release TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN made HK$ 170 million in Hong Kong and only came in second. Now THE LAST DANCE has already achieved good results with its opening box office and has hopes to set the cumulative box office record. Tze Wah is rehearsing for a play and thus two nights ago was unable to attend the audience appreciation events at cinemas, but he could not hide his joy and expressed it in words that Wai Sze Nga read at the event. "The feeling of being able to break the record is very wonderful. I believe the success of the film is because it is able to bring the wonderful feeling to the audience. I hope this wonderful journey can go even further and even more wonderful." In the sharing session after the movie, Michelle got teary eyed for awhile. She said that the audience's sharing moved her. She pointed out that the audience would smile again soon after watching the movie, which was very cute. Did she cried at every audience appreciation show? Wai Sze Nga said no, but the most memorable time was a 10 year old boy who watched the movie twice. This child even asked her about her character, only after thinking about the role for a week. Sze Nga felt that the question had very good quality, and the child was very please with her explanation. "The child really likes movies. I believe in the future he would be the pillar of the film industry." She revealed that even her rational fiancé cried hard when he watched the premiere. "The most amazing thing is that after a few days, he was still thinking about a plot. He felt that it exorcized him, and said thank you very much to me. My heart ached at the moment. (Will he be nicer to you from now on?) He's already been nice enough to me! My personality changed a little when I was making the movie, and he took a lot of tantrums from me. When he saw our success, he congratulated us just now." He even promised her that he would watch a few more times. For the movie to break the opening day box office record, was she confident that it will break the record for Chinese language films? She admitted that she did not dare to think about that, as the credit for the good results belonged to the team and the audience. As for Wai Law Sa, she said that she rushed to thank the audience with the director just now. She learned good news about the box office on the way, and said that the director kept receiving congratulatory text messages but remained calm. Her own social media also received a lot of Mama class messages, praising her touching role. She said that she may have more Mama fans because of this, and revealed that her husband German Cheung Ming Yiu once helped Michelle make up the performing arts lessons and discussed the script. She was happy that her husband participated in it. Leung Yung Ting faced the audience for the first time this time, felt that the audience exorcizing their own pain, and saw many viewers moved to tears because of the movie. Leung Yung Ting said that her boyfriend and the director have known each other for a very long time. She said that she has started working with the film team since READY O/R KNOT (BUT YUT SING FUN), so she was very happy. From the performance to the production wrap she kept sharing the film's production process with her boyfriend, so he has seen it many times as well. * (2024/11/11) The Amy Lo Wai Man and Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui starred movie AN ABANDONED TEAM (DUT CHUNG SIN SUN) held two "dog-friendly charity screenings" the day before yesterday. More than 100 viewers brought their dogs to watch the film together, and the actors went to the theater in person to thank the audience. Amy got teary eyed when she saw the people and dogs in the same place, and many owners brought their dogs to take photos with her after the show. The dogs were very enthusiastic, licking her chin and kissing her face. Amy enjoyed it very much, and shouted excitedly, "It's the first time I got so many dog kisses, today I am really very happy!" * (2024/11/10) The Dayo Wong Tze Wah, Michael Hui Koon Man, Michelle Wai Sze Nga, Tommy Chu Pak Hong and others starred film THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) was released yesterday and has been screened more than 1,000 times in Hong Kong and Macau. As of 7 o'clock last night, the film company announced that the cumulative box office of THE LAST DANCE exceeded HK$ 6 million, surpassed the HK$ 5.19 million opening box office of TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) on May 1st this year and became the opening box office champion of Hong Kong films in 2024. Wong Tze Wah yesterday was amazed by this achievement, saying, "It feels amazing to be able to break the record. I believe that the success of the film is because it can bring wonderful feelings to the audience, and I hope that this wonderful journey can go further and more wonderful." With more than 1,000 performances in Hong Kong and Macau, THE LAST DANCE have caused a lot of buzz. Some online have joked that it is more frequent than the bus schedule. THE LAST DANCE team also started a frantic audience appreciation journey yesterday. They divided into two teams and visited cinemas starting from 10 a.m. to after 12 midnight. Driven by word-of-mouth, many audiences also got a sneak peek, and the ticket sales networks of various theaters saw that many of the shows were full. * (2024/11/10) The M+ director exhibition "Tsui Hark, The Free-Spirited Trailblazer" and the Hong Kong premiere of "SHANGHAI BLUES 2024" 4K Restoration took place two nights ago and celebrated the 40th anniversary of the "Film Workship" Tsui Hark and producer Shi Nansun founded. Tsui Hark and Shi Nansun appeared together in all-black and all-white respectively. The actors of the film, Sally Yeh (Yip Sin Man), Sylvia Chang Aijia, Kenny Bee Chung Chun To (Ah B) attended with many directors, stars and film industry figures such as George Lam Chi Cheung, Chingmy Yau Suk Ching, Derek Yee Tung Sing, Candy Yu On On, Manfred Wong (Man Jun), Lowell Lo Koon Ting and his wife, Ann Hui On Wai, Alex To Tak Wai. Before the film screening began, Tsui Hark and Shi Nansun gave speeches for the opening ceremony, and Shi Nansun said that she would like to thank Ah B for studying the Shanghai dialect for the film for several days and made Tsui Hark change the dialogue for him. This day was also a little sentimental as well. She said, "I dined with Tsui Hark and Ng See Yuen at noon, and everyone talked about ideals. Their ideals were not to make money or be famous, but to do something for the Hong Kong film industry. I was reminded of registering and opening the Workshop with Tsui Hark on March 23th, 1984. I also wanted to do something for the film industry. I didn't think that after 40 years, we still would be making movies. I wish each and every one has a dream and make it happen with practical actions, because I don't know how it will end." Shi Nansun said with a smile that she had something important to announce. "This night will be like before, after watching the midnight show you can still get a late night snack." Tsui Hark joked that everything he wanted to talk about, Shi Nansheng has already said them. He only said simply, "I hope that everything will be fine with the Hong Kong film industry and Hong Kong, and it will get better and better; I hope we can do something to make Hong Kong better!" Guest Yee Tung Sing talked about working with Tsui Hark and said that in 1995 when he directed FULL THROTTLE (LIT FOR JIN CHEH) they were already in discussion but in the end they could not come to an agreement. They also had a dramatic film that they have discussed for a long time, but due to market issues the collaboration also fell through. He also joked that he was a part of the "bride's family" and was more familiar with Shi Nansun. Among Tsui Hark's movie, Yee Tung Sing liked BLADE (DOH) in particular and said that it was very fiercely shot; as for modern action films he liked the Nicholas Tse Ting Fung starred TIME AND TIDE (SHUN LAU YIK LAU). Yee Tung Sing said that he only officially worked with Tsui Hark in 2016 when they made SWORD MASTER (SAM SIU YEH DIK GIM). At the time it was a 3D production. Since he made more dramatic films, Tsui Hark's production skills were much higher than his. The visual effects were sharp. He said, "He brought a lot of new stuff to film, and changed this industry. Some stunt people after working with him also changed a lot. In my heart Tsui Hark is the 'the best action director in the world'." Director Johnnie To Kei Fung recently in an interview said, "Hong Kong and I both have lost our souls." Yee Tung Sing avoided the subject and joked awkwardly, "Do you want the Hong Kong Film Awards to not happen? No comment, let's go, let's go!" He then immediately left. Ah B brought his wife Fan Chiang and eldest daughter Chloe Chung Ka Ching to show their support. "They haven't seen this movie, so I invited them to enjoy it together." Ah B said that SHANGHAI BLUES was Tsui Hark's first film after setting up the Film Workshop. He has always regarded Tsui Hark as an idol and a fan of the Tsui Hark directed THE BUTTERFLY MURDERS (DIP BIN), so he was very honored and happy to be invited to perform back then. "After I starred in LET'S MAKE LAUGH (BIU CHOR CHUT YUT CHING) and PRINCE CHARMING (CHING WA WONG JI), Tsui Hark approached me about working together." He deliberately turned down other jobs for his movie, and it became one of his favorite works that he often revisited. He also praised Tsui Hark for being demanding at work and having a quick wits. His earlier 4K restoration of the film also had an all new voice track and felt crisp and fast pace, unlike his work 40 years ago. Ah B also laughed about his earlier tour in the mainland of his band the Wynners, when he and bandmates Anthony Chan Yau and Ah Keung all fell on stage in a row. "Because the stage is replaced with a new material floor, it will be very greasy and slippery after spraying dry ice. Originally Tam Wing Lun reminded everyone to be careful, but I had to teach people to dance cross steps so I must dance. As a result, Chan Yau and I both slipped and fell. Ah Keung wanted to come over but did not expect to 'slide' into us, and had a red card ejection, haha. My daughter caught the footage and edited it to look like a comedy, but those 20 seconds were actually very intense. Luckily everyone was fine. After the incident, I went to the doctor. Even the doctor said that I was fine. (Are there any injuries to sensitive areas?) It's sensitive, it's the waist, but it's fine, I can still use it, haha." * (2024/11/09) Jeffrey Ngai Chun Sun gave many thrilling performances in the movie CESIUM FALLOUT (FUN SIN)G, and in one of the explosion scenes almost made him a "chipped tooth guy"! In The scene he encountered an explosion after he rescued someone, and the force caused him to fall to the ground. His mouth was covered with blood because he hit his mouth and teeth, but fortunately his teeth were hard enough and did not break. He also had a scene where he almost fell from the container, and he had to be hung upside down outside. Because the scene had to be shot from multiple angles, he had to maintain the position for a long time every time he was hung upside down. His eyes were bloodshot when he landed. He was very tough though, after the cameras stopped rolling each time he still maintained his smile. Winning the "Best New Performer" at the Hong Kong Film Awards for the movie ANITA, Louise Wong Dan Nei challenged the torturous crying scene in the film. She could not regain her composure for a long time after the cameras stopped as she kept crying. * (2024/11/09) Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui (Brother Tan), Jay Fung Won Him, Amy Lo Wai Man, Fish Liew Chi Yu, ANSONBEAN and other actors and two directors attended the premiere of the film AN ABANDONED TEAM (DUT CHUNG SIN SUN) at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival the night before. Playing a cameo role in the film, Brother Tan's eldest daughter Zaneta Cheng Yiu was also present. AN is the film debut film of Fung Won Him and ANSONBEAN, and it is also the first time that Lo Wai Man plays the leading role. As the film industry "rookies" the three when faced with Brother Tan all said that they were "scared", but at the same time were also very grateful to Brother Tan for taking care of them. Brother Tan laughed and said that he performed in this movie all because he was deceived by the director. He first heard the director say that the movie was about "old dog of aman", who knew that he was this "old" man and there was another "dog". Originally because he was only allergic to dogs he turned it down, but the director told him to take allergy medicine and he would be fine. In the end in the last scene he had a skin reaction from coming in contact with puppy drool. Not only did he have skin reaction, but he also had heat stroke from shooting on location in the barren mountains and mountains under the high temperature of more than 30 degrees Celsius. The on set crew mistakenly thought that he was trying to steal the spotlight. He joked, "Today's young directors are really 'forcing things', and I really want to 'settle accounts' with them!" Brother Tan said that his daughter Cheng Yiu has always been an extra in his movies. He also revealed that the only requirement he had when he agreed to make this movie was to have a scene with his daughter Zaneta and his on screen daughter Fish in the film. Zaneta said that his father was filming both movies and TV series at the time, and rapidly lost 10 pounds. Speaking of the scene with father and daughter together, Cheng Yiu in the film guest starred as a viewer.Brother Tan said that the movie dialogue in the film was when he stared at his real daughter, pointed to on the stage and said "My granddaughter." Did Brother Tan really want to have a grandchild, he joked that it would be fun. Has Zaneta felt the pressure of being rushed to have a baby? Zaneta laughed, "I didn't have it at the time, but now I have it when I'm married. However my parents have made it clear that they won't help with grandchildren." Speaking of being moved to tears at his daughter's wedding, Brother Tan admitted that he could to help it. Cheng Yiu pointed out that when Papa saw her trying on the gown he was already teary eyed. Liew Chi Yu pointed out that when working with Brother Tan at the beginning she was both nervous and stressed. She thanked him for his trust and said that she has always wanted to make a family movie. She also pointed out that the story was somewhat similar to her family dynamic in real life, which made her very sentimental. She has never lived with Papa in her life. One of the argument scene expressed strong emotions, and was very damaging to her liver. After the shoot she was very tired, but she did not expect Brother Tan to give her a high score of 120 points for her performance. Liew Chi Yu said, "The most memorable thing was filming a fierce argument scene with Brother Tan, after the filming completed Brother Tan patted me on the shoulder and praised me for doing a good job, which made me break down and cry." Fung Won Him revealed that he was very nervous about his first movie and had bad takes. He fumbled with his Cantonese dialogue and pointed out that different from singing, acting required instant reaction with the co-star. He even had bad takes with his kiss scene with Lo Wai Man. How many takes did they take? He emphasized, "It's not that I deliberately want to reshoot, it's that the director thinks I haven't done a good enough job. Although this isn't my first on screen kiss, it is the first time on the big screen. In addition the co-star is the tall and beautiful Lo Wai Man, I am really nervous and embarrassed. However the audience won't see it, because it has been completely cut. I hope that the second version can be launched with the feedback of the audience." Lo Wai Man was very happy to be the lead actress for the first time, and said humorously, "I don't think it's a pity that the kiss scene was deleted; I filmed it anyway, only everyone can't see it." She also praised her co-star as a 200 point good boyfriend. * (2024/11/08) A member of the girl group COLLAR, Candy Wong Ka Ching played the female lead of the movie for the first time. In the film POSSESSION STREET (CHEH MALL) she and Philip Keung Ho Man played father and daughter. Wong Ka Ching sai that Keung Ho Man really gave the impression of Papa, made people feel very secure. On the first day of work she already had to argue with him. At first she felt very nervous, luckily he was very friendly and she was able to get into character very quickly. Wong Ka Ching and Yeung Wai Lun (Alan) recently promoted the new film POSSESSION STREET. The film used a "dead site" as its backdrop, which told the story of an old district shopping mall that was about to be demolished. Due to an accident that caused human-to-human transmitted zombies to appear in the mall, everyone started a massacre in a narrow and small space. Keung Ho Man and Alan were both mall merchants in the film and have a friendly relationship, while Candy was Keung Ho Man's daughter and Alan treated her like a niece. Speaking of being the lead actress for the first time, Candy thought that there was not much difference between making a movie and a series, and she was very happy to work with Keung Ho Man. She had to aruge with him on the first day of work, at first she felt very nervous. Fortuantely he was very friendly and she got into character very quickly . She praised him for having quite a Papa feel. Has she talked back to or argued with Papa in real life? She said, "During the rebellion phase I would talk back, which in fact was a little similar to the character. I talked tough but was tender inside. I obviously loved my father very much, but because I want to save face I wouldn't give in easily. Of course I didn't reach the point of dropping out of school before telling him like the character. If I did that, they would drop me first, haha!" Speaking of the zombie makeup, Alan pointed out that if there is one second makeup application and removal special effect makeup he could get it a try. During the shoot he saw other actors had a very difficult time with spending a few hours on applying makeup, and then taking a few hours to remove the makeup. Candy did not resist and praised how delicate the zombie makeup was in the film. With the zombie subject the film inevitably had some frightening scenes. Candy bluntly said that she liked to watch horror movies, but would only watch them at home. "The sound effects and pictures of watching horror movies at the theater will be amplified, so I don't dare to watch them at the theater. I will be very scared." Alan was not afraid of watching horror movies, but was afraid of nightmares after watching them. "Dreaming will magnify everything, nightmares mean sleeping poorly and will affect the alertnes. I am afraid that it will affect my work. The worst nightmare I have ever had was that my relatives and friends all have become monsters; when they attack you, would you fight back? This is the most struggling and terrifying part, in fact, it is a bit similar to the content of this film." * (2024/11/08) The Anthony Pun Yiu Ming directed and Andy Lau Tak Wa, Bai Yu and Karen Mok starred the blockbuster CESIUM FALLOUT was released in the mainland on November 1st, and has received more than 31 million yuan (RMB, the same below) on the first day of release, and on the fourth day, it beat the Hollywood blockbuster "VENOM: THE LAST DANCE to become the highest-grossing work in mainland China in a single day. The box office has exceeded 127 million yuan before the deadline! As the producer and leading actor of CESIUM FALLOUT, Lau Tak Wa rushed back to the mainland to promote the film the day after the concerts in Taiwan ended, and went to Guangzhou and Shenzhen for the tour and post-screening exchanges, and the atmosphere was warm. The plot of CESIUM FALLOUT revolves around an apocalyptic disaster caused by the smuggling of foreign garbage. In the story Gao Peide (Wong Man Tak), a wealthy businessman, was greedy and transferred illegally smuggled foreign garbage to Hong Kong, which eventually led to an unimaginable disaster. In the movie, environmental protection expert Fan Weili (Lau Tak Wa) and fire captain Li Jiefeng (Bai Yu) represent science and courage respectively, trying to find out the truth and save citizens in the midst of panic and helplessness. CESIUM FALLOUT's director Pun Yiu Ming, producer and leading actor Lau Tak Wa, stars Ivana Wong Yuen Chi, Michael Wong Man Tak, and Michael Chow Man Kit attended the post-screening exchange activities of the Shenzhen tour the day before yesterday. Some viewers mentioned that the movie "CESIUM FALLOUT" will be released in North America on November 8, saying. "I'm very proud! CESIUM FALLOUT is such a disaster blockbuster, meaningful, vigilant, and responsible for the world! Let more people in the world pay attention to the problem of foreign garbage that cannot be ignored, and go back to where it comes from!" In the film the Lau Tak Wa played expert Fan Weili confronts the wealthy businessman Gao Peide, and did everything to make the "dark chain of interests of foreign garbage" between him and Fang Mingkeng (Michael Chow Man Kin) public. An audience member said, "It's so relieving to watch, the world doesn't just belong to the rich. It's so cool to watch a black-hearted rich businessman go to prison for 30 years!" Lau Tak Wa and Michael Wong Man Tak reprised this famous scene of "executive jacket VS suit villain" on the spot. Lau Tak Wa shared the filming of this scene behind the scenes. He said frankly, "The filming took a day, there were a lot of dialogues. I was very nervous, Wong Man Tak's aura was really powerful. I feel that he is really a big villain". Wong Man Tak also said that during the filming of this scene, Lau Tak Wa had an emotional outburst and he was "shocked" by Lau Tak Wa's momentum. "As long as it's right, you should do it", Fan Weili's line in the film was impressive, and some viewers said, "This is the principle that Fan Weili has pursued all his life, and it is very powerful." Fan Weili did not hesitate to go to prison for 7 years, insisting on exposing the rich businessman and finding out the truth, which also caused a lot of discussion among the audience. In this regard, Lau Tak Wa explained that "everyone must be responsible for everything they do", what was right should be done, and justice must prevail. An audience member said, "After watching CESIUM FALLOUT, I learned life-saving knowledge. My mother specifically likes to collect ome beautiful stones, but now I think it is actually very risky." Lau Tak Wa directly recorded a video for the audience's mother and appealed to the public. "Some dangers may not be easy for us to detect, I hope everyone will stop picking up garbage at will." The disaster caused by "foreign garbage" in the film reminded many viewers of the real accidents of leakage of dangerous substances from abroad. Director Pun Yiu Ming talked about the social significance of the film. "The film is inspired by real reports, and the most important thing is to remind everyone to pay more attention, what I hope the most is that disaster will never happen, and I hope that the audience can walk out of the theater with hope." As a producer, Lau Tak Wa said frankly: "Many big things start from the small things around us, and I hope everyone can pay more attention to them after watching the movie. There are hidden dangers similar to those in the film around us. Be more aware and careful, I hope that we can live on a wonderful earth." In addition, Lau Tak Wa recently went to Guangzhou with producer Bill Kong Chi Keung , director Anthony Pun Yiu Ming and star Wu Yanshu to participate in the post-screening exchange activities of the film tour. At the tour, the audience mentioned that Lau Tak Wa previously starred in the movie LOST AND LOVE, saying that the abduction case finally ushered in a fair ending recently. He thanked Lau Tak Wa for letting more people know about the "orphaned" group. In this regard, Lau Tak Wa admitted that he has been following up on this case, "Just like the movie CESIUM FALLOUT, I will continue to communicate with the audience with social issues in the future. I hope everyone will pay more attention to the little things around us to make life happier and safer." In CESIUM FALLOUT, Fan Weili did not hesitate to go to prison for 7 years in order to expose the conspiracy of the rich businessman. Some viewers bluntly said that "Fan Weili's self-redemption and responsibility to society are very touching. I was reminded of Tu Hengyu in THE WANDERING EARTH 2, the two characters have a lot in common when facing life and death decisions, family and daughters." Lau Tak Wa interpreted Fan Weili, "He is a character who is willing to look inside himself, and everything he does is salvation". Wu Yanshu also shared that her first scene with Lau Tak Wa in the film was Fan Weili's release from prison. When she looked at Lau Tak Wa, "I have both my own hopes and the hopes of the characters, which are very real." Wu Yanshu said frankly that Fan Weili's role "has ideals and responsibilities, and understands his kindness and persistence". Wu Yanshu shared her feelings about rehearsing with Lau Tak Wa, she said, "Wa Jai was very worried that I would have a sense of distance when I worked with him for the first time, so he took the initiative to chat with me to shorten the distance between each other. I think the scenes between two of us in the film have quite a lot of chemistry." When talking about the cooperation between the two, Lau Tak Wa and Wu Yanshu both replied in unison: "It's like a family, it's very natural and quite a bond." "As long as there is hope, I will go", this line of the Bai Yu played fire captain Li Jiefeng made viewers cry. They bluntly said that "I can't stop crying from watching the firefighter's sense of mission." As a part of the "firefighter's family", Lau Tak Wa said frankly that when he received the script, "when I heard the word 'firefighter" I felt it was very meaningful. My dad is also a firefighter". The Li Jiefeng led fire brigade stood in front of everyone in the face of the disaster, which made Lau Tak Wa "see what Father looked like when he was young" and was very touching. * (2024/11/08) The filming of the Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Kenneth Ma Kwok Ming, Samantha Ko Hoi Ning, DaDa Chan Jing and others starred Lunar New Year film MA JEUK NUI WONG JUI NAM JAI (MAHJONG QUEENS CHASE BOYS) is in full swing. Director Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) recently shared the progress on social networks. "Filming until 3 o'clock in the morning, everyone is still in good spirits!" In the photo, Snow Suen Wai Suet, Sonya Chan Yan Yan and Anderson Junior (On Tak Juen) are all smiling happily, only Chan Ka Lok closes one eye, reducing the power from his electric eyes as he is slightly tired. Yip Lim Sum also posted a photo with Suen Wai Suet and Bob Lam Sing Bun, pointing out that the two are the mascots of each of his works. He could rest assured if they were there, which showed that the two were very favored. * (2024/11/07) The Emperor Motion Picture INEXTERNAL (LUI YING OI HUP)'s producer, director and screenwriter Steve Yuen Kim Fai led stars Angus Yeung Tin Yue, Macy Ma Sihui and Louis Cheung Kai Chung ia martial art fight film with a new subject and is full of rhythm. First time lead actor Yeung Tin Yue had a series of fierce fights in the film, changing from his nice guy image. He even showed up his six pack abdominal muscles on the strongest body that was eye-catching. Yeung Tin Yue worked out a month before the start of the filming to build muscles and get into shape, and learned different martial arts and sports. He practicing street fitness every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, he admitted that learning street fitness and kicking were the most difficult. He must stretch in advance. In addition he had to perform a turn, if he misses on the pole he will fall to the ground. He must overcome psychological difficulties, which was tough to him with no kung fu foundation. For his first time as the lead actor, Tin Yue was stressed and had difficulties with sleep. He tried to talk to the boss Dr. Albert Yeung Sau Sing and said that he was very worried about the box office, he did not know if the audience will like it. He received encouragement from the boss, who said that everyone has the first time. Lead actress Ma Sihui also has a lot of kicking and martial arts stunts. Although she has a dancing foundation that kept her more limber, martial arts action requires flexibility and strength. She needs to work out before filming, but she has not come in contact with that beforehand. She once could not avoid Yeung Tin Yue's right hook when they were filming a fight and was hit. So she opened her month wide and applied ice for 5 minutes to reduce swelling. Playing the role of a member of the underground martial artists, Chau Ka Yee has many scenes with Yu On On. When she sees Sister On On had to cry very painfully in every scenes, would she want to make more comedies? Ka Yee thinks that in comedy the control of the rhythm is very important, but she calls on everyone to find her for comedy. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. WEN WEI PO, ENTERTAINMENT, SPECIAL TOPIC, NOVEMBER 11 2024 WHAT DO THE AUDIENCE LIKE ABOUT CESIUM FALLOUT AND THE LAST DANCE? DIRECTOR ANSELM CHAN STARTED AS A RACING FORM EDITOR Because of two Hong Kong-made films CESIUM FALLOUT (FUN SING) and THE LAST DANE (POR. DEI YUK) have made Hong Kong cinemas lively recently, the audience's desire to go to the movies has increased and proven that movies made with heart still have supporters. CESIUM FALLOUT's November 1st opening day box office set a record in the second half of the year, and yesterday the film announced that its Hong Kong box office broke through HK$ 20 million yuan. THE LAST DANCE was released the day before yesterday. It has collected HK$ 10 million (including preview screenings) before the deadline, breaking the historical record of Hong Kong film opening. The audience's word of mouth has also been good. With such good performances, a group of Hong Kong filmmakers who are seriously making movies should be congratulated. Why has the audience been so enthusiastic? If you look at the film reviews on the Hong Kong film websites and the audience's heated discussion of the two films, you would understand. The reviews may be good and bad, but to be able to generate discussions in this era and having admission they are already successfully. Some people call THE LAST DANCE the "Best Hong Kong Film of 2024", because it has both funny and warm elements and it can also lead the audience to reflect; Some people also commented that the film is a "movie that cannot be missed in life", with a rich sense of layering, the script and actors complement each other, and the two generations of first-class comedy elders have led many newcomers to set off spark. They also praised Michelle Wai Sze Nga and Michael Hui Koon Man's performances were very outstanding; some online thought that this film contained a lot of philosophies about life and death, which was very tear-jerking. They praises director Anselm Chan Mou Yin's very strong expression ability, and the plot was also very moving. However some people also compared this film to CESIUM FALLOUT, saying that out of a full score of 10, THE LAST DANCE would only get 3 points while CESIUM FALLOUT would get 9 points. Everyone's experince might vary. Other viewers have posted film reviews of CESIUM FALLOUT on social media sites. Some viewers said that watching this movie was like witnessing a milestone for Hong Kong films, "This is a movies that let us witness Hong Kong films entering a new era! Hong Kong film having a home-made disaster movie is indeed very encouraging, and the actors's outstanding performance absolutely deserves the support of the audience." Some viewers also commented after watching it, "A decently made Hong Kong-produced disaster film, with quality special effect and a sense of realism that is not exaggerated. The editing is decent, the coherence is ok. With many actors, ensemble scenes are numerous. (Andy) Lau Tak Wa's role as a father is more prominent." Some viewers bought tickets three times, watched the movie alone twice and once with his wife. He revealed that his wife even had to wipe her tears several times from watching, very obviously she liked it very much. After comparing Hong Kong-made disaster movies and Hollywood disaster movies, he pointed out that disaster movies of this scale, Hollywood is of course the most top-notch, and then came the Korean Wave that was also very high quality. In comparison, Hong Kong was still considered "newborn infant", but this time was obviously an even bigger gamble. These two red hot films were both from the fifth and sixth echelons of Hong Kong film directors (in terms of directors). The public might not be too familiar with them, but the two directors have also been immersed in the film industry for some time. CESIUM FALLOUT director Anthony Pun Yiu Ming was an accomplished cinematographer, who made his film debut in 1994 as the director of photography in Lau Ka Yung's LANTERN. In 2005, he won the Golden Horse Award for Best Cinematography for the film DIVERGENCE (SAM CHA HAU). In 2013, he won the Best Cinematography Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards for THE SILENT WAR. The most high-profile award in recent years is the Best Cinematography Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards, which he won again this year for his hit film THE GOLDFINGER. THE LAST DANCE director Chan Mou Yin is a Hong Kong TV and film writer and director. He has been involved in the writing of more than 10 TV series. He is also a registered hypnotherapist. It was his childhood dream to become a horse racing critic. He entered the industry with horse racing critic Ma Yan Chi when he was a teenager, and later joined Wong Jing's horse racing form as an editor. Wong Jing appreciated him very much and personally taught him screenwriting skills. After joining Jing's Production Limited. He also created comedy films such as HOTEL DELUXE (BAK SING JAU DIM), HELLO BABIES (LUK FUK HEI SI), and HOUSE OF WOLVES (NGOK YUN GUK). In recent years, he has written and directed READY O/R KNOT (BUT YUT SING FUN) and READY O/R ROT (BUT YUT SING FUN 2). READY O/R KNOT was even selected as the closing film of the 2021 Chicago Asian Pop Up Cinema Film Festival and thus began to rise. - Text: Ding Xiaoyu [ In Production Now/Soon ] MY BEST BET Can : Cheung Doh Bin Yeung Lit : Lucky Gamble Certain Victory AKA : DOH WOK GUM Lit : WAGER A WOK OF GOLD (tentative title) d. Shi's legend was forged through acts of brazen daring, like his infiltration of an enemy stronghold to rescue the wrongly imprisoned Lu Jun-yi from certain execution. Patrick Tam, in a performance of searing intensity, breathes life into a character confronted with the ghosts of his outlaw past, and clinging to hope for rebuilding his fractured life and finding new purpose. Chan, the acclaimed writer of the "Ip Man" franchise, infuses the film with a sense of hard-bitten optimism, suggesting that even in the darkest of times, an indomitable spirit can light the path to a better tomorrow. Just as her social-media popularity increases, so do her frequent injuries, as she learns that her beginner's skills may be no match for those of more experienced fighters. Fate draws her to a local church infested with illicit drug-dealing activities. She soon realizes her connection to that church is more personal than expected as there's a link to her family's past. Should she simply stay in the shadows and pray for a miracle, or put her karate chops to good use? An rejuvenated ode to both THE KARATE KID and the action heroines of Hong Kong's Golden Age, the latest from director Ricky Ko after his award-winning TIME (Fantasia 2021) once again nicely combines nostalgia and modernity with a potent mix of martial arts, humour, sweetness, and compelling characters, OUT OF THE SHADOW offers a guaranteed good time, a reminder of why we love HK movies so much in the first place. Starring several rising stars from Hong Kong, including two actors reunited after Fantasia favourite PORT OF CALL (2015), OUT OF THE SHADOW is fresh off several Asian festivals, and makes its first stopover in the West at Fantasia before it hits its home territory this fall. – King-Wei Chu [ OASKA ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL 2024 ] Chu Po is a sprightly teenage girl with a strong sense of justice but her mother, Tao Kuen Ying, would rather they keep a low profile in the fishing town of Tai O. Ricky KO, director of Time (2021, OAFF2022), delivers a playful vigilante film, complete with laughs, fighting, Cantonese humour, and a touch of family drama unfold in the beautiful setting of Tai O. Despite the gym's struggles, he remains committed to his lifelong philosophy of never backing down from a challenge. Businesswoman Elsa discovers that her boyfriend Daniel is cheating on her with Macau's female champion, Surewin. Driven by her competitive spirit, Elsa vows to settle their score in the ring. Upon learning that Surewin was Lui’s former student, Elsa seeks him out to train her at his gym. There, she encounters MOK Ka Lei, who had previously clashed with her during an advertisement shoot. After leaving the entertainment industry to support her family, Ka Lei attempts to make a comeback, with the help of her friend LAM Pik Chu. Under the rigorous training of Lui's protégé, KO Chau, Elsa undergoes intense preparation. Although she struggles, she is inspired by her teammates and begins to realise that her motivation lies in personal growth, not just in competing against her boyfriend's new partner. On the day of the match, Elsa steps into the ring, fearless and ready to face Surewin in an ultimate showdown. --- [ NORTH AMERICA AREA CONCERTS ] * G.E.M."I AM GLORA" WORLD TOUR IN LONDON DATE AND TIME: Friday, January 24 2025 VENUE LOCATION: OVO Arena Wembley Arena Square, Engineers Way, Wenbley Park, Wembley HA9 0AA United Kingdoms https://www.ovoarena.co.uk/events/detail/gem-i-am-gloria-2025-world-tour-in-london * NANCY SIT LOVES U 60 YEARS CONCERT DATE AND TIME : Saturday, December 28 2024 @ 8 PM VENUE LOCATION: The Theatre at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto 1133 Queens Plate Dr. Toronto ON TICKET PRICES: VVIP CA$ 228, VIP 168, 118, 98, 78, 68 TICKET OUTLET LOCATIONS: TICKETMASTER CANADA https://www.ticketmaster.ca/event/100061568E510F00 * TERRY LIN ONETAKE 2.0 DATE AND TIME : Sunday December 22 2024 @ 7PM VENUE LOCATION: Yaamava' Theater Yaamava' Resort and Casino 777 San Manuel Blvd, Highland CA 92346 TICKET OUTLET LOCATION: JADE ENTERTAINMENT https://www.jadeentertain.com/home/ STUBHUB https://www.stubhub.com/event/153351680/ Unisky Travel and Tours 626-270-1998 Ng Hing Kee San Gabriel 626-632-1994 Fanta Travel and Tours 117 S San Gabriel Blvd San Gabriel CA 91776 626-786-1881 Ten Ren Tea 626-641-8215 CHINESEINLA.COM 626-778-1781 CTOUR HOLIDAY 222 E. Mired in debt, wedding planner Dominic gets a miraculous chance to turn things around when a funeral planner retires and passes the baton to him. Planning weddings and funerals are polar opposites, but Dominic puts his all into his new job, from opening graves, digging coffins, to handling the deceased. No matter how unpleasant it gets, he takes on everything with gusto. However, the biggest obstacle is getting the approval of respected Taoist priest, Master Man. In his 70s, Master Man is a traditional man who has devoted his life to his Taoist faith. He wants to pass the mantle to his son, Ben, but Ben is more devoted to his wife and kids than to Taoism. Master Man's daughter, Yuet, respects her father greatly. However, since her ancestors dictated that women are filthy by nature, Yuet doesn't take romantic relationships seriously. Those who inhaled eventually became "zombies", sparking a massive slaughter in the mall! Video store owner Sam, his daughter Yan, Feng Shui Master Mak and few remaining tenants desperately fend off the zombie onslaught. But the zombies are nearly indestructible, even talismans could not stop them. And strangely, not everyone who died turned into a zombie. After battles between the living and the dead, the mall became hellish. Master Mak discovered from the ancestral scripture that these "zombies" are actually related to the "Seven Po"... [ 2024 BUSAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ASIAN COTENTS AND FILM MARKET ] An aging mini mall located in a bustling commercial district is about to be torn down for re-development. Yan notices the crack on the wall expanding to a gaping hole. She and other tenants discover an underground tunnel adorned with disturbing scratch marks on the walls. Something awful happened here long ago… The tunnel leads to an underground altar filled with specimen jars of wilted plants. On it sit seven flowers, each with a unique color. They are fertilized with human remains - ears, eyes, noses, tongues, organs, etc. - and irrigated via human blood. Suddenly, one flower's petals unfurl to unleash a cloud of drifting pollen: surreal, elegant and creepy. Petals blossom as the remaining six flowers fire pollen into the air. Yan and Kit cover their mouths as they watch seven other mall tenants rot away, turning into murderous living dead. If one of those Undead or infectious pollen escape, it would be dire for Hong Kong. It isn't simply a battle for their survival, but for Hong Kong's. Yan, Kit and Master Mak will fight till they fall... Nevertheless, she insists it is true love despite being swindled out of a large sum of money. [ 2024 NEW YORK ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL ] Are online "romance scams" always destructive? In this moving, absorbing feature debut from Ho Miu-ki, Sandra Ng plays Veronica, a wealthy, widowed doctor who falls for a middle-aged French engineer on a dating app. Soon, "Alain" has convinced her to provide large infusions of funds and Veronica’s friends urge her to report him to the police. But even as she assures them it's true love, Alain must steel his heart of gold and quell his second thoughts to continue bringing in cash or risk painful consequences. With a hilarious Stephy Tang as the young scammer's coach, this captivating film probes the unlikely emotional connection that forms between a lonely young man and a vibrant older woman—and sets crucial scenes in the pretty-as-a-postcard Sapporo. [ M PLUS ] A successful obstetrician-gynecologist whose love life has stagnated, Veronica casually downloads a dating app for some harmless fun. Little does she know that the dashing French engineer on the other end of the line is actually a local con artist named Joe.
