MISCELLANEOUS * (2023/12/20) Tony Leung Chiu Wai yesterday around 9:30 AM went to Commercial Radio to promote the film THE GOLDFINGER (GUM SAU JI), appeared on the 903 program ON A CLEAR DAY's live broadcast, spoke with hosts Jan Lamb Hoi Fung, Ken Yuen Tsz Kin and Michelle Lo Mik Suet, became the program's first guest in history and caused a stir at Commercial Radio. The program did not promote the Best Actor's appearance before hand, but facebook live due to Wai Jai had over 5,000 viewers. Wai Jai mentioned that working with Andy Lau Tak Wa again, he was reminded of working on DUKE OF MOUNT DEER. He also admitted that the older he got, the more baggage he had with taking roles. Lam Hoi Fung in front of Wai Jai became a little fan. Seeing his idol, he was out of his mind as he turned the Wai Jai and Jacky Cheung Hok Yau starred DAYS OF BEING DUMB (AH FEI YU AH GEI) into CURRY AND PEPPER. Afterward Lam Hoi Fung on social media blamed himself and said that he would punish himself by writing DAYS OF BEING DUMB 1,000 times. Wai Jai once promoted on Commercial Radio as a singer. Years later he appeared at CR again for an interview. Lam Hoi Fung asked if this was the first time he promoted so early? Wai Jai said it probably was, he never thought that he would get up early. Speaking of his film THE GOLDFINGER being based on the 1980's the Carrian case, he said that he did not have much of an idea bout this case back then. Lam Hoi Fung asked, "What were you busy with then? CURRY AND PEPPER?" Lam Hoi Fung has yet realized that he made a mistake, while Lo Mik Suet pointed out that Wai Jai back then was probably still in school. According to data Wai Jai in 1981 was enrolled in the TVB artist training class. Wai Jai talked about his character. "Just hearing about the case and the character, they feel very empty; like you don't know why. This time I have the chance to examine them. (How did you do your homework?) The director gave me the case information. After reading I screamed, 'Wow! That really is incredible!' I was pretty interested in giving it a try." He said that he knew nothing about the financial world, thus he read books about real financial scam stories. With his imagination he brought life to the character in the film. Because Wai Jai mentioned books, Lam Hoi Fung pointed out that there was a Leung Chiu Wai's book list online. He said that Wai Jai once texted a book recommendation to him. Wai Jai said that he did not remember, Lam Hoi Fung awkwardly joked, "You scum! You set me up!" He then praised Wai Jai for being hard work and studious, whether art, leisure, and especially sports he has studied very in-depth. Wai Jai said, "The job required it. Each time the character was different, each time I learned something different. I have a lot of opportunities to come in contact with different things. I have to learn, otherwise I would be very empty. Before hand however much I could prepare I would. For THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) I studied kung fu. It wasn't about making the fighting look good, but building up my confidence. Then shooting the movie on the set I would be much more at ease." Wai Jai said that working on THE GOLDFINGER had the feeling of a reunion. Working with Lau Tak Wa and Felix Chong Man Keung was pleasant. "This time is Chong Man Keung again. He deliberately made the story to lure me into making it. If he didn't have a solid character, I couldn't think of how to make it then I wouldn't make it. He made the whole blue print; the reunion of course is a temptation. I have worked with Wa Jai for over 40 years, when Chong Man Keung worked on INFERNAL AFFAIRS (MO GAN DOH) we had a lot of fun. Aside from working on movies, we normally interacted and talked about movies and book. He has always sent me scripts to look at, I have turned many down. I really didn't feel them. When people after reading them would have their feeling they would perform well. After I read them I didn't have any feel, that meant I might not be able to play them well." He also humbly said that the older he got the lazier he got. "Too much baggage, I am very afraid of making something not good. I enjoyed performing in POLICE CADET back then, no baggage. Few had any expectation of you. Instead I could play however I wanted to. With close friends I would be wilder." Wai Jai praised Lau Tak Wa for really taking care of people. He also remembered when they worked on DUKE OF MOUNT DEER. He said, "We became good friends. Back then we made several dozen episodes. For awhile we were together and built a very special relationship and a lot of trust. I believe the bond was established back then. (Then with INFERNAL AFFAIRS and THE GOLDFINGER?) In between I have made some pretty rotten movies that no one would remember. (On a flight would you watch your own movies?) I wouldn't no matter what, I would watch other movies." Wai Jai's surprise visit to CLEAR to promote made the hosts very excited, but they were a little reserved in front of Wai Jai. After the show Lam Hoi Fung discovered that he said CURRY AND PEPPER instead of DAYS OF BEING DUMB. He blamed himself in a post, "I'll chop myself into pieces! #write 1,000 times DAYS OF BEING DUMB." * (2023/12/20) The 58 year old "Ghost King" director Danny Pang Fat in order to save his wife admitted that he currently owed almost 2 million on the streets. His brother Oxide Pang Chun and his wife Lee Sinje have lent a helping hand, but they could only help so much. Helpless, he could only file for bankruptcy. Whether on money or effort, Pang Fat neither complained nor regretted about taking care of her beloved. Once considered suicide, he stated that he only hoped to have job opportunities to lighten his load. "We aren't even afraid of death, what else is here to be afraid of!" Pang Fat once with his brother Pang Shun were inseparable, as the Pang Brothers they directed hit films like THE EYE, RE-CYCLE and STORM WARRIORS. In recent years he has mostly vanished from Hong Kong. Yesterday morning he was suddenly caught outside the Admiralty Superior Court. He was surprised to se reporters and then admitted that he came to apply for bankruptcy. The story behind his severe financial crisis was rather touching. Reportedly, Pang Fat and his wife of almost 30 years have been through the highs and lows of life. However Mrs. Pang who had breast cancer over a decade ago in February this year was diagnosed with end stage lung cancer. With an enormous medical cost Pang Fat chose to stay by his wife and be an absolutely real man. Seeing his wife's health gradually deteriorating, Pang Fat not only took care of her everyday life but also spent all of his savings for a sliver of hope. "Finally in Singapore we were successfully matched with a target therapy, which was said to be 80,000 a month and the government would sponsor half. However with other medical and living expenses, every month would require at least 100,000. When she was diagnosed, I was working on series in the mainland. In the end I paid the compensation and left the team to return to Hong Kong because I worried something would happen to her. If I wouldn't get to see her for the last time then I would have regrets." In June he originally would begin work on a mainland film, but the production date changed time and after and left him between a rock and a hard place. In 10 short months he has already experienced the "endless cycle" of life! Pang Fat admitted, "First once the treatment began it couldn't stop, but my income has been severely impacted. I put out word that I would even be willing to work as an editor, but nothing came of it because the market truly has been too poor! Due to personality problems I don't have any friend in the industry, and I have to take care of my wife so job opportunities have been seriously affected. Directors don't have proof of income, I couldn't get a bank loan. So I could only ask the second tier financial services, but from borrowing 100,000 I only got 85,000. Every 15 months I would have to make a payment. Now I really am out of ideas, I only 1.02 million on the streets. If I would be working, I absolutely believe I can afford to pay it back." Filing for bankruptcy his time, Pang Fat already expected "negative news" to follow. Even someone tried to collect on his debt. However he again stressed, "I have never thought about skipping out on my debt, I only hope that the financial company would give me little time. In addition as long as I have the opportunity to work, I really don't mind anything else. (Has your brother Pang Shun helped?) yes, but he has a family to take care of. I am really grateful for Cheung Siu Fai's wife for helping out. When we worked together on the film REBORN (JOI SUN YUN) she gave me the director salary for emergency use." He also lamented that he and his wife have thought about "giving up". "But then we thought, we weren't even afraid out of death. What's there to be afraid of! Now we only want live everyday one." When Mrs. Pang first accepted the target therapy, her pain was drastically reduced. Yet recently it has begun, which made Pang Fat very worried. "We would know at the appointment at the end of the mouth. I hope she can hold on! (Are you mentally prepared?) I have written a lot of scripts, actually the dialogue within them could really be spoken. Once she was critical and rushed to the hospital. She urged me to take good care of myself, if one day she would no longer be here I really would have no need or want. What would be there to live for!" Eddie Cheung Siu Fai and Francis Ng Chun Yu earlier worked with Pang Fat on the film DEATH STRANDING (KWUN SAU). Cheung Siu Fai admitted that earlier he already knew about Pang Fat's wife, but has no heard him mention any financial issues. Cheung Siu Fai praised that Pang Fat for being very good to his wife and has seen her. "he always mentions his wife, would say that his wife likes to have durian. He really loves his wife. When we just finished work in the mainland he would immediately return to Hong Kong to be with his wife." When they worked on DEATH STRANDING, has Pang Fat been affected at work? He said, "No, filmmakers usually would dive right into work, getting to work is a kind of joy, happiness. Focusing on work might be able to reduce his troubles. For example, one of the reasons I make movies is to be able to reduce stress from it. However I would be sad for a filmmaker, Hong Kong film is in a poor climate. Filmmakers in turn have less income, with illness in the family, various pressure from work, it wasn't easy at all." Ng Chun Yu only heard about Pang Fat's troubles from the reporters and would call to console him. * (2023/12/18) Best Actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai's social phobia was no longer a secret, but the always quiet him actually had his "verbose" moment. His new film footage recently has been released. In it he suddenly used foul language with director Felix Chong Man Keung. His manner of speech was rather natural. He even joked that all of his lines had to be "bleeped". The Leung Chiu Wai starred Emperor Motion Picture THE GOLDFINGER (GUM SAU JI) has been scheduled for a December 30th official release. Footage of the film has been gradually released. Lately a video of Wai Jai chatting causally on the set with director Felix Chong Man Keung. In the video he naturally used foul language, after which he realized that he has been caught on camera. Thus he smiled and responded. In the video, Leung Chiu Wai was conversing with the director. He suddenly said, "I X told you!" Although two men using foul language were very normal, Wai Jai saw the camera afterward and smiled in response. After seeing the camera, he said to the camera person. "You are always shooting stuff like this, then all of my lines have to be bleeped. When you get there you bleep." He revealed that he normally used too much foul language, every line had to be censored. * (2023/12/17) In the Best Actor Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Eddie Peng Yu-Yan, Cya Liu starred new film, Chu Kam Yin performed outstandingly as a criminal and gave the most difficult time in his film career. With his arms tied and head in a plastic bag, he suffered water torture at the hands of Lam Ka Tung. With the special effect make up the visual was horrifying and bloody. He said, "My head was covered with a plastic bag with water in it, I was very scared that I would suffocate to death." However with the on the set crew's attentive care, he felt very warm at heart. * (2023/12/17) Nick Cheung Kai Fai and Isabella Leong Lok Si in the film THE BURSTING POINT (BAU LIM DIM) worked together for the first time. They both agreed that their "bursting point" had to be family. Ka Fai even said that for his daughter he could risk everything. Ka Fai in the past has played many memorable villains, this time his character was set to be a rule following cop. It instead made the performance very hard for him, as he admitted that inside he had "Cheung Ka Fai" who did not follow the rules! Ka Fai and director Lam Chiu Yin 9 years after THAT DEMON WITHIN (MOR GAING) worked together again on the action film THE BURSTING POINT (BAU LIT DIM). Ka Fai pointed out that Director Lam had a change that he did not expect. "He works harder than he was younger. I never would have guessed that. Maybe it's because he kept shooting, had more development; he had more he wanted to make. His ambition got bigger. He wanted to make everything happen, so he gave more energy to that. It's all because he has not made a crime film in 9 years, holding everything back has been very rough. All at once he took the ideas he has accumulated, the visuals that he wanted to bring about and placed them all in THE BURSTING POINT. (did you pushed you too?) Yes, everyone burst." Although he was pushed to burst, Ka Fai praised Director Lam being even sharper than with previous films. Whether action or dramatic scenes he wanted to push them even further. He spread the hardcore flavor even more to a taste that would entertain the audience even more, because only with interest would the audience be drawn to watch it. While the director had high demands of himself, would his demands be just as high for him? Ka Fai pointed out that Director Lam was a civilized director, and would shoot action scenes under safe conditions. He said, "The Director Lam everyone know in the 90s has already made many police unit and gun action scenes. Working with him again now, he still remained very civilized, and worked under safe conditions." Playing a cop, Ka Fai in the film had to fight, run and also had gun fight scenes. Would he feel they were too much? Ka Fai admitted that now film productions had computer graphics to help so they were much more comfortable, but injuries were still inevitable. Ka Fai this time injured his leg. Did he feel any scene was the most difficult? Ka Fai admitted, "I can't say that it's very hard, instead I feel that everyone after such a long time return to make a crime film, and have so many new partners. The subject is also bursting, everyone enjoy the production process. In particular actors who worked with Director Lam for the first time, everyone treated death like it was nothing." In BURSTING every character because someone has pushed them into a dead end had a "bursting point". What were their bursting points? As a mother Leong Lok Si said, "Definitely family, as Mommy the trigger has to be on the kids." Ka Fai felt that each person alone could tolerate being bullied or unfair treatment, but if their family and family would then they could not. This would be everyone's bursting point. In the film Ka Fai took a beating for ten minutes for his son, in real life could he risk everything for his daughter? Ka Fai said with certainty, "I would." Ka Fai also revealed that previously in life he could be triggered very easily by certain things. "I used to fight all the time, now I don't dare to. I just think about it inside, I can be easily triggered. (Fight over girls?) Don't talk about it, I wouldn't dare to anymore, the naivete of youth." As for Ka Fai witnessing the fate of his son in one scene, as Papa he stated that it broke him. He felt that director Lam Chiu Yin's intention was for the audience to directly see the atmosphere of cruel violence with the actor. How did he leave the character afterward? Ka Fai said, "I hurried home and went to bed as soon as possible, after a dozen or so days of fighting even my spirit and soul have left. After wrapping up production I felt like I unloaded the heavy burden." Ka Fai once mentioned that it is hard to be the good guy, he joked that actually the good guy roles are hard to be play. "The worst part is I watched them do whatever they wanted, but I wasn't allowed to do anything at all. It's very hard to play. From the start I knew that the design was for me to be a very obedient cop, and how he would burst in the end." Having enjoyed playing the villain and dark characters, Ka Fai also said, "In the business I would often hear that you have to play the good guy before. At the time I was very resistant to this idea, until later when I had the opportunity to play the villain. For example in SECRET OF THE HEART I played Kelvin, I thought the role was very comfortable, very matter of fact. Producer Chik Kei Yi asked me how I would play it. I said matter of fact evil and kill, the result was great. I have always felt that the gray and dark characters had more potential, for example my award winning film BEAST STALKER (JING YUN) was also this type of role. I enjoy playing this type of roles." Speaking of the movie's ending leaving a lot of questions, if they made a sequel would he want to continue his relationship with Leong Lok Si? Ka Fai said, "I have to, need I say more?" The 59 year old Ka Fai in the past often made comedy. In recent years he constantly had action scenes in his movies. Ka Fai helplessly said, "I don't know why I started the life of an action actor, before I made BURSTING POINT I already made two movies in the mainland that I had to fight in. Coming back to work with Director Lam, I didn't dare to tell him that in the mainland I have already fought a lot. I was afraid that he would say he wanted more. In recent years people have asked me to play some very heavy roles that also required fighting, The movies coming up would be the same way. It's my fault, they are really tough but I really like them. I am very conflicted, so when people saw this conflict of mine, they would continue to ask me to be conflicted. As for would I make more action films from now on, they would depend on the scripts and the team. I would have to gauge them." After 30 years in film, Ka Fai transitioned from comedy actor to action film. However he still constantly thought about transitioning. He was not interested in certain movies. He cited an example, "Too lightly flavored dramatic films I have the least interest in. The ones like Hou Hsiao-Hsien shooting the sky I am not capable of, too quiet and I am afraid that I wouldn't get it. (What about romance?) Originally with Bella (Leong Lok Si) I had some romantic elements in the film, but because our characters were too busy we wouldn't give the time to handle it. Director Lam's though wouldn't just be about love, the type of love in which everyone due to fate got together I can do." Speaking of the recently popular Korean romance, Ka Fai joked, "No way, my hearts (poses) aren't good, when I get home I would throw up. I myself couldn't do it, but I have no problem with other people doing it." Actor turned director, Ka Fai said that if he would direct he would make some strange and odd subjects. However they would be more dangerous, mainly because he did not follow the rules inside. "I am very rebellious, I don't like to follow the rules. I am referring to career wise. My performing art ideas are more rebellious, I don't like to follow the tracks. I hope everyone wouldn't be able to guess how I would perform. Sometimes the directors wouldn't know I would play like this, then they wouldn't know what to do either." Ka Fai praised his first time co-star Leong Lok Si, whose performance as a drug maker was very entertaining. "Characters like these are pretty good for her, maybe everyone's previous impression of her was mild mannered, pretty, intellectual youth. She has quite a knack for acting, but you wouldn't think that she would be the drug maker and would hold a gun. Seeing her on the set, her appearance and character are both very entertaining." Leong Lok Si worked with the "Demon Director" Lam Chiu Yin for the first time. She admitted that she was definitely nervous because they have not worked together before, but she was also very happy to have this opportunity; having someone trusting her and asking her to make an action film. Shooting a gun in the film for the first time, Leong Lok Si said that it was a lot of fun. Before hand she even went to learn how to hold a gun, but unfortunately she had few action scenes. She said, "Actually I was mentally prepared when I took Director Lam's movie, I expected to be like Ka Fai. Although people told me that Director Lam's movies were very tough and he was the demon director, but I am OK. I was very ready, but very regrettably I only had one or two (action) scenes. I hope next time more of my potential could be further discovered." Leong Lok Si admitted that she has offered to be in action films to Director Lam, as she hoped to try being an action actress. In the film Leong Lok Si and Natalie Hsu (Hui Yan Yi) played mother and daughter. In a scene in which she yelled at her daughter by the swimming pool, Leong Lok Si's performance was tense and left a deep impression. As a mother of three sons in real life, Leong Lok Si said that the character was easy to get into. "Because yelling at kids is a stage that I have experience. I showed my son the yelling at the daughter scene by the swimming pool, his first reaction was, 'That's how you yell at us.'" Director Lam Chiu Yin after 9 years returned to Hong Kong action film, producing and chief directing the crime action film BURSTING POINT (BAU LIT DIM). Always excelled at crime action films, what would Lam Chiu Yin want to express the most in the new film after 9 years in reserve? He said, "Because we really like movies like this, from BEAST STALKER (JING YUN), STOOL PIGEON (SIN YUN), THAT DEMON WITHIN (MOR GAING) we have been heading to this director when we create. Actually it is really an opportunity for us to get back together to do this, suddenly we have become very released, very free, so we go crazy for once. It's great!" For the past several years Lam Chiu Yin has been making big production in the mainland. This time he returned to make Hong Kong film, his felt that the atmosphere has not changed. "Coming back to a familiar place, speaking Cantonese, the Hong Kong film production format hasn't changed. It's like returning to an embrace. Different from the mainland film productions, Hong Kong is a small place; workers are also limited unlike the mainland that constantly has several hundred to a thousand people." This time Director Lam asked Chan Wai Ting to play a drug enforcement undercover officer. William was asked if he prepared himself before the production began? He said, "Half a year before the production began, I could just pay attention to my diet. The appearance didn't require anything special because I was undercover. I have always been exercising, I have been training in Muay Thai. While working in the mainland I constantly went to the gym and train with the coaches. I really like punching and kicking, the most important however is the psychological, the dramatic scene handling. I not only had to handle Director Lam and the god class co-star Brother Ka Fai, but also Brother Hak (Philip Keung Ho Man). I had a lot to keep in mind. They were bursting with might, and my character couldn't be exposed by Brother Hak." When asked if he felt William could work toward action films? Director Lam said, "What problem would young people have with making fight scenes, just fighting is useless. They have to merge with the power in the film to be useless." William waited for over a decade to having the opportunity to work with Director Lam on a movie. He admitted that after watching the premiere he felt that he would have to work even harder. "I haven't spoken Cantonese lines in many years. During the shoot even I didn't know whether I was good or bad. The fight in the mud had two versions, the clothed one was the 'chicken' version. Actually I explored my own character as the shoot went on, I now understand the director very well, because my character could change at any time." William also stated that he would like to make the sequel, "After finishing BURSTING POINT did I realize what is making a movie very seriously. (Would you stay in Hong Kong more to make movies?) I really want to. Because this time the director used many new actors, I seem to have seen myself from before: that atmosphere on the set, really wanting to have the opportunity. They have asked me, back then when I was always getting yelled at and eye rolls, why did I keep going?" He also pointed out that he was very happy to see the young actors' abdominal muscles in the film. He knew that they trained everyday in order to prepare for the performance, so he hoped to make with young people. He believed that they would bring Hong Kong films even more elements. * (2023/12/16) Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Dante Lam Chiu Yin worked together again on the film BURSTING POINT (BAU LIT DIM) 9 years after THAT DEMON WITHIN (MOR GAING). Cheung Ka Fai said that his relationship with director Lam Chiu Yin has become even solid and with even more meaning. He was able to take the opportunity to lend a hand to the new director with potential Calvin Tong Wai Hon. BURSTING POINT was Lam Chiu Yin produced and chief directed. He lamented that being the producer for the first time he immediately had the door slammed on him. He had to knock on three doors before finding funding, but he was not too pessimistic about the future Hong Kong film market condition. He felt that it still had a lot of possibilities, hoped everyone would support it and felt that the need to pass the torch in the film industry. Cheung Ka Fai said that Hong Kong film has already experienced 10 years of difficulty. Acting would be his lifelong profession, so if it would be even more difficult he still would not give it up. Leong Lok Si worked with Lam Chiu Yin for the first time and praised his lack of temper. She also wanted to make action films again and felt that she was very tough. Cheung Ka Fai revealed that 3 years ago attended director Benny Chan Muk Sing's funeral and thought his assistant director of many years Calvin Tong Wai Hon had a lot of potential, only needing some opportunities. Started as an assistant director himself, Lam Chiu Yin said that he sympathized and the Tong Wai Hon he knew was someone who worked seriously. He felt that he had a responsibility to pass the baton in this industry. Cheung Ka Fai has directed 4 films, which he considered only as a hobby. He did not dare to compare himself with Lam Chiu Yin because of the impossibility of making high quality commercial films. Lam Chiu Yin joked, "Doesn't that mean you are very stubborn?" Cheung Ka Fai said, "I really made very stubborn. Lam Chiu Yin makes big productions. I am an actor and that's it." He said that as an actor he would he would do his part, trust every directors' judgment and arrangement. He would absolutely never with his directing experience kept giving suggestions to the director. "It's like after I got bullied, I wouldn't want to bully others." Lam Chiu Yin said that this Best Actor was known to be hard to tame, yet when they worked together they have been very comfortable. Perhaps because they have known each other for a long time, and have established a bond long ago. "15 years ago we worked together on THE BEAST STALKER. He has always wanted to make this genre, and he was also the one who gave me the confidence to make this type of movies; what he liked I liked too. He is crazy and so am I, so we have the feeling of brothers in arms." They also pointed that now with less film productions, big productions could also be counted in one hand. Thus when the team could get together to work, they had joy that they could not describe, and the value of existence of working hard together. As the Hong Kong Film Award winning director, Lam Chiu Yin revealed that being a producer for the first time he had the door slammed in his face. He had to knock on three before finding funding. However he has not been too pessimistic with the Hong Kong market condition, feeling that it still had many possibilities. "Finding financing has always been hard, having an idea but no funding isn't viable. Maybe later it would be even harder, having to knock on 10 doors. However I feel someone would always answer. I hope everyone would support Hong Kong film. (Would you make more Hong Kong films?) I would, next year I would be come. Hong Kong film productions at best would use several dozen people, mainland productions basically several hundred people. However for me who is used to making Hong Kong films, several hundred people or several dozen people aren't too different. Coming back to make movies, I am familiar with the environment and has a sense of familiarity. It's great." Cheung Ka Fai said that Hong Kong films have already experienced 10 years of difficulties, but he treated acting as his lifelong profession. Even if it would become tougher he would not give up. "If I have to predict the future film market, I feel it would be pretty much like it is now. Would it be so bad that no one would have any movie to make? I believe it wouldn't." Active in the film industry again, Leong Lok Si said that at work Cheung Ka Fai and Lam Chiu Yin were like twins. Working on BURSTING POINT this time, she felt like her eyes were wide open. She witnessed all the shocking scenes but was not scared off, because before the production began she was already mentally prepared. She has been in contact with the "demon director" Lam Chiu Yin and the very crazy Cheung Ka Fai, she liked their methods and atmosphere in particular. She even praised Lam Chiu Wai for his lack of temper and hand on approach, never seeing him yell at anyone on the set. In addition the team had a lot of love, and she hoped to work with them again next time. "I want to work on another action film, I am very tough!" Lam Chiu Yin welcomed Leong Lok Si into their ilk. "Some filmmakers after working with me would be scared off, she actually liked this atmosphere and work format." Cheung Ka Fai suggested adding a human ghost romance next time for Leong Lok Si to work with, because he has already experienced Lam Chiu Yin's hardcore style. This time in the film he had to witness the death of many. Speaking of Cheung Ka Fai winning the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor with THE BEAST STALKER (JING YUN) and UNBEATABLE (GIK JIN), both were Lam Chiu Yin directed. Was he confident that he would win again? He said, "May what you say come true, but this time I want the cash prize. I hope more people would support the film, so it would receive great box office return." BURSTING POINT opened on the 8th in Hong Kong and the mainland simultaneously, currently its Hong Kong box office was around HK$ 2.8 million and 80 million RMB in the mainland. Leong Lok Si pointed out that Cheung Kai Fai and Lam Chiu Yin were light and humorous during he interview, but actually on the set they were very serious because the story was very heavy. "Each time on the set when I saw Cheung Kai he looked very down." Cheung Ka Fai said that at work not much fun happened, so he rather enjoyed drowning in the serious atmosphere. "On the set we rarely chatted, because we focused our energy on exploring the characters. Outside the shoot we would meet for dinner and chat." Lam Chiu Yin revealed that his wife was jealous of Cheung Ka Fai. "When my wife saw me on the phone for so long, she would ask if I was talking to Cheung Ka Fai." Did they have a lot of heart to heart chats? Cheung Ka Fai joked, "Mostly about the movie, and some ugly negative human nature topics. I normally am rarely on the phone, the person I call the most is Lam Chiu Yin. (Has your wife Esther Kwan Wing Ho complained?) When I performed in the mainland and took a photo with Lam Chiu Yin, I showed it to my wife. She did not say anything, then said we were a couple!" * (2023/12/16) Angus Yeung Tin Yue in the film BURSTING POINT (BAU LIT DIM) played a drug enforcement unit police officer. He worked with director Dante Lam Chiu Yin for the first time. He stated that when he saw the director's on the set command and teaching actors how to act, he too naturally got 100% of his effort naturally. "The director's demands are very precise and very accurate, whether it is on camera positions or the dramatic scenes, his ability to control the set is top notch. You would naturally want to give 100% to coordinate." In the film Tin Yue had many topless scenes. Although he has a habit of working out, before the shoot he still had more emergency training. From the behind the scene video, Tin Yue and Chu Kam Yin on the set trained together. Were they in competition to see who was in better shape? Tin Yue said, "Very obviously we were working out for the topless effect, whether competition or training we probably did both. We have measured who was able to do more, in the end of course I did a little more." * (2023/12/16) The Andy Lau Tak Wa and Cya Liu starred film I DID IT MY WAY (CHIM HUNG), for which they also sang the end credit song. The music video even had the male and female lead versions. Wa Jai sang the different choice between love and loyalty, while Cya Liu surprised with her moving performance. The Wa Jai produced and starred crime action epic I DID IT MY WAY (CHIM HUNG) would open on January 11 next year. The film company yesterday released the Wa Jai performed end credit song, and the Cya Liu performed companion double version music video. The song and lyrics creators after watching the film was deeply moved by the characters' fate and stories within. Wa Jai's moving melody and story telling lyrics uncovered the complicated emotions of the film's characters. In the film, the Wa Jai played drug lord Lam Chun On treated people's lives like ants. Whether they were his rivals, witnesses or even the police, as long as they got in his way they would end up on his "death list". However such a "devil" also had his soft side. Lam Chun On's wife Vivian (Cya Liu) was priceless to him, and he also cherished the relationship with his life and death partner Sau Ho (Gordon Lam Ka Tung). However Lam Chun On and Sau Ho had difference in value. As they began to go their separate ways, they headed toward dark abyss. The verses "fate and benevolence is rare, not yet knowing life's sadness and sorrow" perfectly unveiled the characters' thinking and choices about love and fate. Wa Jai seemed to comfort each person with his singing; perhaps forgive yourself for not being able to achieve some life lessons, as long as you remember those important moments of life it is enough. As the Best Actress Cya Liu also rarely sang. With her tender voice her performance had another flavor. For Vivian in the film, Lam Chun On was also her most reliable other half -- even the only light in her world. Cya Liu once said that when she got the script, what moved her the most was one of the character biography's line "Other than lover, all are others". She also made special design for the role. When her character Vivian got nervous, she had a habit of playing with rolled up tissue. Cya explained, "Because the character suffered trauma before, when Lam Chun On was absent she would be in a panic. Thus when performing the song I would also naturally get into Vivian's point of view, through light yet firm singing to deliver the lyrics. The verses, 'time swallows up everything, but i am never afraid, the person i love would take me away' perfectly tell Vivian's unconditional trust and love for Lam Chun On." * (2023/12/16) The film IN BROAD DAYLIGHT (BAK YUT JI HA) after entering its 7th week in release has already reached HK$ 22 million as of December 14th and successfully entered the top three highest grossing Hong Kong film box office of 2023. The performance has greatly encouraged the team. Director Lawrence Kan Kwan Chun and lead actress Jennifer Yu Heung Ying thanked the audience for their support and even looked forward to the nominations to compete in the Hong Kong Film Awards next year. The film's opening week performance was not considered outstanding. Later with more audience word of mouth and viewers booking shows themselves, the film had more and more momentum at the box office and even become the single day box office champion on multiple days. The film also became the hot topic in the community as the media made in depth coverage and examination of the film. In addition, from the opening day on actors like Yu Heung Ying and the cast and the crew participated in over 200 audience appreciation shows. As the film got more and more viewer support, it also began talking about being able to compete in next year's Hong Kong Film Awards. Yu Heung Ying said that in comparison to her own nomination, she would look forward to each post of the team being able to compete for awards. "I never thought about winning an award, just like I was already very happy with the Golden Horse Award nomination. I have a lot of confidence in the entire team, because every post on the cast and the crew, everyone worked very hard and put in a lot of effort. We hope to be able to give viewers the best and the highest quality film, so I wish that every post would have nominations and give them recognition." * (2023/12/15) The Stephy Tang Lai Yan and Jasper Liu starred romantic suspense film AS IT BURNS (BAK JAU YU FUN) earlier participated in 3 film festivals in a month, including the London East Asia Film Festival, the Golden Rooster Hundred Flower Film Festival and the Fukuoka Rising Sun International Film Festival. Early this month the film also held preview shows that were sold out. Industry insiders after watching the film all thought Stephy would have a chance at a Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress nomination next year. The film's trailer was released yesterday. Stephy and Jasper Liu after the sweetness ran into relationship crisis. In the trailer Jasper Liu was in tears but Stephy appeared tough. Stephy revealed that exploring the character was a process of finding love, while Jasper Liu pointed out that during the performance he was in constantly tense state. * (2023/12/15) Teresa Mo Shun Kwan yesterday held a brand crossover fashion line INNOTIER x MOMOZONE's new product press conference and received support from friends Aimee Chan Yan Mei, Chiu Hei Lok, Meg Lam Kin Ming, Jennifer Yu Heung Ying and others; it happened to be her over 80 year old Mama's actual birthday, Sister Mo prepared a cake to surprise Mama and celebrated this great day of double happiness. The film rarely used an all Hong Kong team, shot on location on the busy streets of Hong Kong, and used Michael Kwai Ching Kit's classic hit BIG MEN (DAI JEUNG FU) as its end credit song to make the real emotions among the masculinity stand out. To make the audience get into BURSTING POINT even more, the two lead actors Ka Fai and William performed BIG MEN together. In the music video Ka Fai and William in the recording studio sang the duet with real emotions, with BURSTING POINT's shocking visuals they greatly elevated the influence. Ka Fai said, "I haven't been inside a recording studio in awhile. When the film opens, I should work hard on promoting to make even more viewers would support BURSTING POINT. So I am very glad to sing BIG MEN again with William. With the actors' personal performance, we should bring even better results." During the recording, Ka Fai kept imagining his BURSTING POINT character and projected his full emotions into performing BIG MEN. Speaking of why this classic series theme song was chosen to be BURSTING POINT's end credit song, Ka Fai analyzed, "Chief Director and producer Dante Lam Chiu Yin has always liked to use some old Cantonese song for film score. Leaving a deeper impression with me earlier was the song in STOOL PIGEON (SIN YUN); lately he always says to me, we can use classic song titles to come up with a story. Using BIG MEN in BURSTING POINT helped with boosting the morale, atmosphere, innocently commend 'BIG MEN's' path. In addition using this song to express the character I play is also very suitable." William admitted, "Some end title songs are done for gimmick, very rarely would they help the film and add points to them. However this time we have really done it. At the premiere when I heard BIG MEN, my hair was on its end. (Michael) Kwan Ching Kit's voice is very representative of the times, with our stills being played on the screen it really has quite a feeling and people deeply understand. This is the determination that men should have, no matter what the result is we should charge ahead. Only then would we deserved to be called 'BIG MEN'." Chan Wai Ting pointed out that to be able to act and sing with his idol Cheung Ka Fai, he was rather pleased with reaching what he considered the star chasing "ceiling".
